This paper deals with the large amplitude vibration, non-linear bending and postbuckling of fiber reinforced composite laminated plates resting on an elastic foundation in hygrothermal environments. Two kinds of fiber reinforced laminated plates, namely, uniformly distributed and functionally graded reinforcements, are considered. The material properties of fiber reinforced laminated plates are estimated through a micromechanical model and are assumed to be temperature-dependent and moisture-dependent. The motion equations are based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes plate-foundation interaction and the hygrothermal effect. A two-step perturbation technique is employed to determine the non-linear to linear frequency ratios of plate vibration, the load-deflection and load-bending moment curves of plate bending, and postbuckling equilibrium paths of laminated plates.  相似文献

This study presents the size-dependent nonlinear thermal postbuckling characteristics of a porous functionally graded material(PFGM) microplate with a central cutout with various shapes using isogeometric numerical technique incorporating nonuniform rational B-splines. To construct the proposed non-classical plate model, the nonlocal strain gradient continuum elasticity is adopted on the basis of a hybrid quasithree-dimensional(3D) plate theory under through-thickness deformation conditions by only four variables. By taking a refined power-law function into account in conjunction with the Touloukian scheme, the temperature-porosity-dependent material properties are extracted. With the aid of the assembled isogeometric-based finite element formulations, nonlocal strain gradient thermal postbuckling curves are acquired for various boundary conditions as well as geometrical and material parameters. It is portrayed that for both size dependency types, by going deeper in the thermal postbuckling domain, gaps among equilibrium curves associated with various small scale parameter values get lower, which indicates that the pronounce of size effects reduces by going deeper in the thermal postbuckling regime. Moreover, we observe that the central cutout effect on the temperature rise associated with the thermal postbuckling behavior in the presence of the effect of strain gradient size and absence of nonlocality is stronger compared with the case including nonlocality in absence of the strain gradient small scale effect.  相似文献

A postbuckling analysis is presented for a functionally graded cylindrical shell subjected to torsion in thermal environments. Heat conduction and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the shell surface and varied in the thickness direction. The material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents, and are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation theory with a von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic non-linearity. The non-linear prebuckling deformations and initial geometric imperfections of the shell are both taken into account. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the buckling load and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling behavior of twist, perfect and imperfect, FGM cylindrical shells under different sets of thermal fields. The results reveal that the volume fraction distribution of FGMs has a significant effect on the buckling load and postbuckling behavior of FGM cylindrical shells subjected to torsion. They also confirm that the torsional postbuckling equilibrium path is weakly unstable and the shell structure is virtually imperfection–insensitive.  相似文献

Assuming the material properties varying with an exponential law both in the thick- ness and radial directions, axisymmetric bending of two-directional functionally graded circular and annular plates is studied using the semi-analytical numerical method in this paper. The de- flections and stresses of the plates are presented.Numerical results show the well accuracy and convergence of the method.Compared with the finite element method, the semi-analytical nu- merical method is with great advantage in the computational efficiency. Moreover, study on ax- isymmetric bending of two-directional functionally graded annular plate shows that such plates have better performance than those made of isotropic homogeneous materials or one-directional functionally graded materials.Two-directional functionally graded material is a potential alter- native to the one-directional functionally graded material. And the integrated design of materials and structures can really be achieved in two-directional functionally graded materials.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine the postbuckling behavior of functionally graded material FGM rectangular plates that are integrated with surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators and are subjected to the combined action of uniform temperature change, in-plane forces, and constant applied actuator voltage. A Galerkin-differential quadrature iteration algorithm is proposed for solution of the non-linear partial differential governing equations. To account for the transverse shear strains, the Reddy higher-order shear deformation plate theory is employed. The bifurcation-type thermo-mechanical buckling of fully clamped plates, and the postbuckling behavior of plates with more general boundary conditions subject to various thermo-electro-mechanical loads, are discussed in detail. Parametric studies are also undertaken, and show the effects of applied actuator voltage, in-plane forces, volume fraction exponents, temperature change, and the character of boundary conditions on the buckling and postbuckling characteristics of the plates.  相似文献

A postbuckling analysis is presented for a simply supported, shear deformable functionally graded plate with piezoelectric actuators subjected to the combined action of mechanical, electrical and thermal loads. The temperature field considered is assumed to be of uniform distribution over the plate surface and through the plate thickness and the electric field considered only has non-zero-valued component EZ. The material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents, and the material properties of both FGM and piezoelectric layers are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermo-piezoelectric effects. The initial geometric imperfection of the plate is taken into account. Two cases of the in-plane boundary conditions are considered. A two step perturbation technique is employed to determine buckling loads and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling behavior of perfect and imperfect, geometrically mid-plane symmetric FGM plates with fully covered or embedded piezoelectric actuators under different sets of thermal and electric loading conditions. The effects played by temperature rise, volume fraction distribution, applied voltage, the character of in-plane boundary conditions, as well as initial geometric imperfections are studied.  相似文献

The plate theory of functionally graded materials suggested by Mian and Spencer is extended to analyze the cylindrical bending problem of a functionally graded rectangular plate subject to uniform load. The expansion formula for displacements is adopted. While keeping the assumption that the material parameters can vary along the thickness direction in an arbitrary fashion, this paper considers orthotropic materials rather than isotropic materials. In addition, the traction-free condition on the top surface is replaced with the condition of uniform load applied on the top surface. The plate theory for the particular case Of cylindrical bending is presented by considering an infinite extent in the y-direction. Effects of boundary conditions and material inhomogeneity on the static response of functionally graded plates are investigated through a numerical example.  相似文献

Large deflection and postbuckling responses of functionally graded rectangular plates under transverse and in-plane loads are investigated by using a semi-analytical approach. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The plate is assumed to be clamped on two opposite edges and the remaining two edges may be simply supported or clamped or may have elastic rotational edge constraints. The formulations are based on the classical plate theory, accounting for the plate-foundation interaction effects by a two-parameter model (Pasternak-type), from which Winkler elastic foundation can be treated as a limiting case. A perturbation technique in conjunction with one-dimensional differential quadrature approximation and Galerkin procedure are employed in the present analysis. The numerical illustrations concern the large deflection and postbuckling behavior of functional graded plates with two pairs of constituent materials. Effects played by volume fraction, the character of boundary conditions, plate aspect ratio, foundation stiffness, initial compressive stress as well as initial transverse pressure are studied.  相似文献

A postbuckling analysis is presented for a shear deformable functionally graded cylindrical shell of finite length subjected to combined axial and radial loads in thermal environments. Heat conduction and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the shell surface and varied in the thickness direction only. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The formulations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory with von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity. A boundary layer theory of shell buckling, which includes the effects of nonlinear prebuckling deformations, large deflections in the postbuckling range, and initial geometric imperfections of the shell, is extended to the case of functionally graded cylindrical shells. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the interactive buckling loads and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling response of perfect and imperfect cylindrical shells with two constituent materials subjected to combined axial and radial mechanical loads and under different sets of thermal environments. The results reveal that the temperature field and volume fraction distribution have a significant effect on the postbuckling behavior, but they have a small effect on the imperfection sensitivity of the functionally graded shell.

This paper presents a study on the postbuckling response of a functionally graded cylindrical shell of finite length embedded in a large outer elastic medium and subjected to internal pressure in thermal environments. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled as a tensionless Pasternak foundation that reacts in compression only. The postbuckling analysis is based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory with von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity. The thermal effects due to heat conduction are also included and the material properties of functionally graded materials (FGMs) are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The nonlinear prebuckling deformations and the initial geometric imperfections of the shell are both taken into account. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the postbuckling response of the shells and an iterative scheme is developed to obtain numerical results without using any assumption on the shape of the contact region between the shell and the elastic medium. Numerical solutions are presented in tabular and graphical forms to study the postbuckling behavior of FGM shells surrounded by an elastic medium of tensionless elastic foundation of the Pasternak-type, from which results for conventional elastic foundations are obtained as comparators. The results reveal that the unilateral constraint has a significant effect on the postbuckling response of shells subjected to internal pressure in thermal environments when the foundation stiffness is sufficiently large.  相似文献

Three-dimensional elasticity solutions for static bending of thick functionally graded plates are presented using a hybrid semi-analytical approach-the state-space based differential quadrature method (SSDQM). The plate is generally supported at four edges for which the two-way differential quadrature method is used to solve the in-plane variations of the stress and displacement fields numerically. An approximate laminate model (ALM) is exploited to reduce the inhomogeneous plate into a multi-layered laminate, thus applying the state space method to solve analytically in the thickness direction. Both the convergence properties of SSDQM and ALM are examined. The SSDQM is validated by comparing the numerical results with the exact solutions reported in the literature. As an example, the Mori-Tanaka model is used to predict the effective bulk and shear moduli. Effects of gradient index and aspect ratios on the bending behavior of functionally graded thick plates are investigated.  相似文献

A postbuckling analysis is presented for a functionally graded cylindrical panel of finite length subjected to axial compression in thermal environments. Material properties are assumed to be temperature dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The governing equations of a functionally graded cylindrical panel are based on Reddy’s higher order shear deformation shell theory with a von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity and including thermal effects. Two cases of the in-plane boundary conditions are considered. The nonlinear prebuckling deformations and initial geometric imperfections of the panel are both taken into account. A boundary layer theory of shell buckling, which includes the effects of nonlinear prebuckling deformations, large deflections in the postbuckling range, and initial geometric imperfections of the shell, is extended to the case of functionally graded cylindrical panels under axial compression. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the buckling loads and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling behavior of axially loaded, perfect and imperfect, functional graded cylindrical panels with two constituent materials and under different sets of thermal environments. The influences played by temperature rise, volume fraction distributions, the character of in-plane boundary conditions, transverse shear deformation, panel geometric parameters, as well as initial geometric imperfections are studied.  相似文献

Thermal postbuckling analysis is presented for graphene-reinforced composite (GRC) laminated cylindrical shells under a uniform temperature field. The GRC layers are arranged in a functionally graded (FG) graphene reinforcement pattern by varying the graphene volume fraction in each GRC layer. The GRCs possess temperature dependent and anisotropic material properties and the extended Halpin–Tsai model is employed to evaluate the GRC material properties. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory and include the von Kármán-type kinematic nonlinearity and the thermal effects. A singular perturbation method in conjunction with a two-step perturbation approach is applied to determine the thermal postbuckling equilibrium path for a GRC shell with or without geometric imperfection. An iterative scheme is developed to obtain numerical thermal buckling temperatures and thermal postbuckling load–deflection curves for the shells. The results reveal that the FG-X piece-wise FG graphene distribution can enhance the thermal postbuckling capacity of the shells when the shells are subjected to a uniform temperature loading.

We investigate sandwich composite beams using a direct approach which models slender bodies as deformable curves endowed with a certain microstructure. We derive general formulas for the effective stiffness coefficients of composite elastic beams made of several non-homogeneous materials. A special attention is given to sandwich beams with foam core, which are made of functionally graded or piecewise homogeneous materials. In the case of small deformations, the theoretical predictions are compared with experimental measurements for the three-point bending of sandwich beams, showing a very good agreement. For functionally graded sandwich columns we obtain the analytical solutions of bending, torsion and extension problems and compare them with numerical results computed by the finite element method.  相似文献

Based on the classical nonlinear von Karman plate theory, axisymmetric large deflection bending of a functionally graded circular plate is investigated under mechanical, thermal and combined thermal–mechanical loadings, respectively, and axisymmetric thermal post-buckling behavior of a functionally graded circular plate is also investigated. The mechanical and thermal properties of functionally graded material (FGM) are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate, and obey a simple power law of the volume fraction of the constituents. Governing equations for the problem are derived, and then a shooting method is employed to numerically solve the equations. Effects of material constant n and boundary conditions on the temperature distribution, nonlinear bending, critical buckling temperature and thermal post-buckling behavior of the FGM plate are discussed in details.  相似文献

In this article, the bending response of a functionally graded plate resting on elastic foundations and subjected to a transverse mechanical load is investigated. An accurate solution for the functionally graded plate with simply supported edges resting on elastic foundations is presented. The interaction between the plate and the elastic foundations is considered and included in the equilibrium equations. Pasternak’s model is used to describe the two-parameter elastic foundations, and get a special case of Winkler’s model by considering one-parameter of elastic foundation. A relationship between the simple and mixed first-order transverse shear deformation theories is presented. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of functionally graded plates are investigated. Comparisons between the results of the simple and mixed first-order theories are made, and appropriate conclusion is formulated. Additional boundary conditions at the edges of the present plates are investigated.  相似文献

The static stability of thin-walled composite beams, considering shear deformation and geometrical non-linear coupling, subjected to transverse external force has been investigated in this paper. The theory is formulated in the context of large displacements and rotations, through the adoption of a shear deformable displacement field (accounting for bending and warping shear) considering moderate bending rotations and large twist. This non-linear formulation is used for analyzing the prebuckling and postbuckling behavior of simply supported, cantilever and fixed-end beams subjected to different load condition. Ritz's method is applied in order to discretize the non-linear differential system and the resultant algebraic equations are solved by means of an incremental Newton-Rapshon method. The numerical results show that the beam loses its stability through a stable symmetric bifurcation point and the postbuckling strength is in relation with the buckling load value. Classical predictions of lateral buckling are conservative when the prebuckling displacements are not negligible and the non-linear buckling analysis is required for reliable solutions. The analysis is supplemented by investigating the effects of the variation of load height parameter. In addition, the critical load values and postbuckling response obtained with the present beam model are compared with the results obtained with a shell finite element model (Abaqus).  相似文献
