The buckling of thin soft ferromagnetic elastic plates in a uniform transverse magnetic field is discussed. Based on a linearized version of the general magnetoelastic equations, a plate equation is derived together with the pertinent boundary conditions. By searching a nontrivial solution of this homogeneous system, a buckling value can be found. As an example, the circular plate is considered. In this paper, Maxwell stresses are used, but it is shown that identical results can be obtained by using other models (especially Amperian current) for the magnetoelastic stresses.
Zusammenfassung In dieser Arbeit wird das Knicken dünner ferromagnetischer, elastischer Platten in uniformen magnetischen Feldern behandelt. Die Ableitung einer Plattengleichung zusammen mit den bezüglichen Randesbedingungen wird auf die linearisierten Gleichungen für weiche ferromagnetische Medien begründet. Durch Lösung dieses Systems wird eine Knicklast ermittelt. Die Methode wird anhand des Beispieles der kreisförmigen Platte illustriert. In dieser Abhandlung werden Maxwell Spannungen verwendet, aber es wird gezeigt dasz andere Modelle (insonderheit Amperesche Stromstärke) für die magnetoelastischen Spannungen das gleiche Resultat bilden.

Our principal concern is an analysis of the equilibrium states of a nonlinearly elastic conducting rod in a magnetic field. We assume hyperelasticity so the equilibria formally appear as critical points of a potential energy functional on the strains. Fairly standard methods give existence of a minimum (not necessarily unique) with e.g., L2-regularity. The assumptions imposed on the functional preclude the use of the usual techniques for justification of the formal necessary conditions for optimality. A new general technique is developed to justify these conditions; it then follows that minimizers satisfy the equilibrium conditions in the classical sense. (A feature of this technique is that the variations considered are homotopies so one can consider minimization within a homotopy class.) In the symmetric case, which admits trivial (straight and untwisted) solutions, we show that nontrivial solutions also exist if the field is strong enough.  相似文献

Several papers [1–4] have considered the propagation of a plane laminar jet of incompressible conducting fluid in a uniform magnetic field for magnetic Reynolds numbers much less than unity. These papers have investigated the flow of a free jet in a transverse magnetic field for small values of the magnetic interaction parameter. Equations for the first approximations were obtained in [1, 2] by a series expansion in the small interaction parameter close to the ordinary solution (without magnetic field) for the jet. The equations for the zero-th and first approximations were integrated in [3]. The same author also found a similar solution for a turbulent jet, the turbulent transfer coefficient being chosen according to Prandtl's method. As regards the solution found in [4], it suffers from the defect that the constant of integration which connects the real velocity profiles with those found in the paper remains undetermined. The present paper gives an approximate solution of the same dynamic problem of the propagation of a free plane jet in a uniform field, no assumption being made as to the smallness of the interaction parameter. In order to do this the integral method of solution, common in ordinary hydrodynamics [5, 6] is employed. The solution of the problem is generalized to include the case of a finite value of the Hall parameter.  相似文献

In magnetohydrodynamic flow the viscous friction at the walls can be substantial. The role of viscous friction can be considerably reduced by using a free or a semirestricted flow of the conducting fluid. Nonstationary phenomena in one-dimensional motion of a free plane incompressible fluid flow in a transverse magnetic field are examined. The narrow sides of the flow come into contact with the sectional electrodes connected through external circuits with an active-inductive load. The magnetic Reynolds number and the magnetody-dynamic interaction parameter are assumed to be large. When the electric field due to electromagnetic induction in the channel is much smaller than the field due to the external circuits, the problem can be reduced to the characteristic Cauchy problem for a quasilinear hyperbolic system of first-order equations which can be solved by the method of characteristics using a computer.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 4, pp. 34–39, July–August, 1970.  相似文献

The dynamics of a nonuniformly conducting gas flow in the channel of a MHD generator are investigated on the basis of numerical modeling. The initial shape of the plasmoids periodically entering the MHD channel qualitatively correspond to that noted in [6, 7]. The alkali metal seed is uniformly distributed over the entire flow. The nonlinear models of the elastic and elasticlinear strain-hardening square plates with four immovably simply-supported edges are established by employing Hamilton‘s Variational Principle in a uniform temperature field. The unilateral equilibrium equations satisfied by the plastically buckled equilibria are also established. Dynamics and stability of the elastic and plastic plates are investigated analytically and the buckled equilibria are investigated by employing Galerkin-Ritz‘s method. The vibration frequencies, the first critical temperature differences of instability or buckling, the elastically buckled equilibria and the extremes depending on the final loading temperature difference of the plastically buckled equillibria of the plate are obtained. The results indicate that the critical buckling value of the plastic plate is lower than its critical instability value and the critical value of its buckled equilibria turning back to the trivial equilibrium are higher than the value. However, three critical values of the elastic plate are equal. The unidirectional snap-through may occur both at the stress-strain boundary of elasticity and plasticity and at the initial stage of unloading of the plastic plate.  相似文献

Summary The unsteady plane Couette flow of an incompressible, viscous and infinitely conducting fluid in a uniformly imposed transverse magnetic field is studied. The elongation of a ferroelastic material sample (whose initial shape is a sphere or an ellipsoid of revolution) under the action of an external magnetic field is studied in an in approximation of small strains. For a sphere, there is a classical estimate obtained under the assumption that elongating in the direction of the field, it becomes a spheroid and the stress and strain fields remain uniform. In the present calculation, it is assumed that the body is an ellipsoid (a sphere in a particular case) only in the absence of an external field; the shape of the sample in the presence of a field is not specified in advance but is found from the condition of balance of surface forces (elastic and magnetic). For the spherical case, the problem is solved exactly: it is shown, that the contour of the deformed body is described by a third-order algebraic equation. The case where the initial configuration is an ellipsoid of revolution is studied numerically. Article [1] is devoted to the investigation of the interface of viscous incompressible conducting media in the presence of a current and with a magnetic field with a small magnetic Reynolds number. Article [2] discusses the stability of a contact discontinuity in compressible media. In this article, in an analysis of the case of long-wave vibrations in the region z<0, the boundary condition is unsatisfactorily met. Therefore, in this part of it the author actually considered a problem with a mass force f=(0, 0, –g sign z) instead of f=(0, 0, –g). The present, article considers the stability of the interface of compressible conducting media in a magnetic field. It is postulated that the magnetic intensity can undergo a discontinuity at this boundary. The article gives the dependence of the maximal increment of the rise in the instability on the determining parameters. An analysis is made of the stability of a contact discontinuity as a function of the angles formed by the wave vector and the intensity of the magnetic field. Summary This paper describes the effect of a magnetic field upon the viscous lifting of a conducting fluid for two types of lifting surfaces; conducting and non-conducting. It is shown that the magnetic field produces very small effects on the film thickness and mass flow rate for the case of the dielectric plate. For the conducting plate, the effects are more pronounced and increase with larger values of the ratio of plate conductivity to fluid conductivity. The analysis employed here is simplified to the extent that the effects of surface tension are not included.  相似文献

A numerical calculation is made which describes the conversion into a T-layer of a finite perturbation in electrical conductivity imposed on a one-dimensional supersonic flow of a compressible medium for a finite value of the magnetic Reynolds number. The development of the injected perturbation is significantly affected by the magnetic Reynolds number of the unperturbed flow, and to each value of this number there corresponds a particular boundary region in which the perturbation is taken up by the magnetic field into an induced T-layer. The stability is investigated in the linear approximation for a minimal perturbation, and the dispersion equation is solved with allowance for gradients in the unperturbed parameters. One of the common regimes of operation of many laboratory and industrial magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) devices using liquid metals as working medium is the regime for which the Alfvén number A, the ratio of the magnetic and kinetic energy densities, appreciably exceeds unity. For example, for a typical MHD device [1] with characteristic length 0.1 m of the working region, velocity 1 m/sec of the medium, and magnetic induction 1 T (the medium is molten sodium at temperature 330°C) the Alfvén number is A - 900. To simplify the investigation of the processes in such devices, one can use the approximation of a strong magnetic field proposed by Somov and Syrovatskii [2] to describe certain types of hydrodynamic flows of a dissipationless plasma in a magnetic field. In the present paper, the approach to the analysis of the self-consistent magnetohydrodynamic problem in this asymptotic approximation is extended to the case of an incompressible liquid with finite conductivity. A study is made of the closed reduced system of MHD equations obtained from the complete model in the zeroth order in the small parameter A–1, in which the magnetic field is a force-free field. An investigation is made of the free diffusion of force-free magnetic field with constant coefficient a of proportionality between the current density and the magnetic induction in a spatially unbounded liquid, and the kinematic properties of a velocity field of the liquid in which the force-free nature of the magnetic field is maintained during the damping process are determined. In this paper, free vibration of a circular plate composed of a transversely isotropic functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) placed in a uniform magnetic field is investigated. Material properties are assumed to depend on the thickness of the circular plate and they are expressed as the same exponential function of h. The problem of free vibration for the transversely isotropic FGPM circular plate with clamped and simply supported boundary conditions is solved by means of the state space method. Numerical examples and some useful discussions are given to demonstrate the significant influence of material inhomogeneity, and adopting a certain value of the graded index can optimize structures of the circular plate. This will be of particular importance in modern engineering design.  相似文献
