We prove that the space of all oriented lines of the n-dimensional Euclidean space admits a pseudo-Riemannian metric which is invariant by the induced transitive action of a connected closed subgroup of the group of Euclidean motions, exactly when n=3 or n=7 (as usual, we consider Riemannian metrics as a particular case of pseudo-Riemannian ones). Up to equivalence, there are two such metrics for each dimension, and they are of split type and complete. Besides, we prove that the given metrics are Kähler or nearly Kähler if n=3 or n=7, respectively.  相似文献

In recent years, much interest was devoted to the Urysohn space U and its isometry group; this paper is a contribution to this field of research. We mostly concern ourselves with the properties of isometries of U, showing for instance that any Polish metric space is isometric to the set of fixed points of some isometry φ. We conclude the paper by studying a question of Urysohn, proving that compact homogeneity is the strongest homogeneity property possible in U.  相似文献

We study geometrical aspects of the space of smooth fibrations between two given manifolds M and B, from the point of view of Fréchet geometry. As a first result, we show that any connected component of this space is the base space of a Fréchet-smooth principal bundle with the identity component of the group of diffeomorphisms of M as total space. Second, we prove that the space of fibrations is also itself the total space of a smooth Fréchet principal bundle with structure group the group of diffeomorphisms of the base B.  相似文献

In this paper, we apply some forms of generalized maximum principles in order to study the geometry of complete linear Weingarten hypersurfaces with nonnegative sectional curvature immersed in the hyperbolic space. In this setting, under the assumption that the mean curvature attains its maximum, we prove that such a hypersurface must be either totally umbilical or isometric to a hyperbolic cylinder.  相似文献

To make optimal use of computational environments, one must understand how students interact with the environments and how students' mathematical thinking is reflected and affected by their use of the environments. Similarly, to make sense of research on students' thinking and learning, one must understand how the environments and contexts used in the research may affect the conclusions one derives. The research on students' learning of functions has approached the topic in terms of symbols and graphs (see, for example, Leinhardt et al. (1990) for a review of work up to that point; Harel and Dubinsky (1992) for a collection of research; and Dugdale et. al. (1995), for some recent thinking about implications for curriculum reform using technology). Dynamic geometry environments (DGEs) like Cabri Geometry or Geometer's Sketchpad, offer us an opportunity to get a new perspective on these old and important issues. DGEs let students build geometrical constructions and then drag certain objects around the screen in a continuous manner while observing how the entire construction responds dynamically. In this way DGEs model functional relationships that are not specified by symbols or represented by graphs.Based on interviews with undergraduate mathematics majors, this paper presents preliminary observations that confirm some old results and raise some new questions about students' notions of function.  相似文献

On the geometry of the nets in the n-dimensional space of Weyl   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Chebyshev and geodesic curvatures of the lines of an arbitrary net belonging to the n-dimensional space of Weyl Wn are introduced. Characteristics of the following special nets in Wn are found: strongly parallel, b-net, c-net and orthogonal (theorems 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6). Some properties of the Chebyshev nets, orthogonal b-nets and orthogonal c-nets, of the Chebyshev vectors of the second kind, of the orthogonal nets and nets containing Chebyshev subnets are established (theorems 1.1, 1.7, 1.8, 1.4). The fundamental formulae in the case of an orthogonal coordinate net are obtained. The spaces Wn containing one of the following special orthogonal nets — strongly parallel of the first kind, Chebyshev net of the second kind and b-net are defined.  相似文献

We introduce families of weighted grand Lebesgue spaces which generalize weighted grand Lebesgue spaces (known also as Iwaniec-Sbordone spaces). The generalization admits a possibility of expanding usual (weighted) Lebesgue spaces to grand spaces by various ways by means of additional functional parameter. For such generalized grand spaces we prove a theorem on the boundedness of linear operators under the information of their boundedness in ordinary weighted Lebesgue spaces. By means of this theorem we prove boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator and the Calderon-Zygmund singular operators in the weighted grand spaces.  相似文献

Sunto. The paper deals with many projective properties of the neighbourhoods of the third,4th, 5th order of a point on a non-holonome surfaceV 3 2 inS 3. Chiefly two remarkable projective correspondences are studied, between the tangent plane and the bundle of directions, with his contact point as centre. Many generalizations are obtained of geometrical loci (so as lines, planes, quadrics) projectively associated with the neighbourhoods of a point on an ordinary (holonome) surface. The last sections are concerned with the extension to theV 3 2 of the quadric ofMoutard and theSegre's correspondence.   相似文献

A De Blasi-like differentiable multivalued function is shown to have a periodic derivative (i.e., to be derivo-periodic) if and only if it is a sum of a function of a continuous (single-valued) periodic function, linear function and a bounded interval (a multivalued constant). At the same time, the single-valued part is derivo-periodic a.e. in the usual sense. In the single-valued case, a characterization of a more general class of derivo-periodic ACG-functions is given. Derivo-periodicity in terms of the Clarke subdifferentials and an impossibility of an almost-periodic analogy are also discussed. The obtained results are finally applied to differential equations and inclusions.  相似文献

Our purpose is to study the geometry of linear Weingarten spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in the de Sitter space $\mathbb{S}_1^{n + 1} $ . In this setting, by using as main analytical tool a suitable maximum principle for complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, we establish new characterizations of the hyperbolic cylinders of $\mathbb{S}_1^{n + 1} $ . In the compact case, we obtain a rigidity result concerning to a such hypersurface according to the length of its second fundamental form.  相似文献
