Walks and the spectral radius of graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Given a graph G, write μ(G) for the largest eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix, ω(G) for its clique number, and wk(G) for the number of its k-walks. We prove that the inequalities

In this paper, we show that, for every locally compact abelian group G, the following statements are equivalent:
(i)
G contains no sequence such that {0}∪{±xnnN} is infinite and quasi-convex in G, and xn?0;
(ii)
one of the subgroups {gG∣2g=0} or {gG∣3g=0} is open in G;
(iii)
G contains an open compact subgroup of the form or for some cardinal κ.

Let G be a simple algebraic group of adjoint type over the field \(\mathbb {C}\) of complex numbers. Let B be a Borel subgroup of G containing a maximal torus T of G. Let w be an element of the Weyl group W and let X(w) be the Schubert variety in G/B corresponding to w. Let α 0 denote the highest root of G with respect to T and B. Let P be the stabiliser of X(w) in G. In this paper, we prove that if G is simply laced and X(w) is smooth, then the connected component of the automorphism group of X(w) containing the identity automorphism equals P if and only if w ?1(α 0) is a negative root (see Theorem 4.2). We prove a partial result in the non simply laced case (see Theorem 6.6).  相似文献

Let G be a digraph (without parallel edges) such that every directed cycle has length at least four; let β(G) denote the size of the smallest subset X ? E(G) such that G?X has no directed cycles, and let γ(G) be the number of unordered pairs {u, v} of vertices such that u, v are nonadjacent in G. It is easy to see that if γ(G) = 0 then β(G) = 0; what can we say about β(G) if γ(G) is bounded?
We prove that in general β(G) ≤ γ(G). We conjecture that in fact β(G) ≤ ½γ(G) (this would be best possible if true), and prove this conjecture in two special cases:
  • when V(G) is the union of two cliques
  • when the vertices of G can be arranged in a circle such that if distinct u, v, w are in clockwise order and uw is a (directed) edge, then so are both uv, vw.

Let G be an amenable group, let X be a Banach space and let π:GB(X) be a bounded representation. We show that if the set is γ-bounded then π extends to a bounded homomorphism w:C(G)→B(X) on the group C-algebra of G. Moreover w is necessarily γ-bounded. This extends to the Banach space setting a theorem of Day and Dixmier saying that any bounded representation of an amenable group on Hilbert space is unitarizable. We obtain additional results and complements when G=Z, R or T, and/or when X has property (α).  相似文献

In Behravesh (J Lond Math Soc 55(2):251–260, 1997), c(G), q(G) and p(G) are defined for a finite group G. In this paper, we will calculate c(G), q(G) and p(G) for some 2-groups G satisfying the Hasse principle in Fuma and Ninomiya (Math J Okayama Univ 46:31–38, 2004). We will consider
$G=\langle x, y, z: x^{2^{m-2}}=y^{2}=z^2=1, [x, y]=[y, z]=1, x^{z}=xy \rangle$
where m ≥ 4. By comparing the character tables and Galois conjugacy classes of Irr(G) and Irr(Z(G)), we will show that
$c(G)=q(G)=p(G)= 2c(Z(G))=2^{m-2}+4.$

Let N stand for the class of nilpotent groups or one of its well-known generalizations. For a multilinear commutator word w and a profinite group G we show that w(G) is finite-by-N if and only if the set of wvalues in G is covered by countably many finite-by-N subgroups. Earlier this was known only in the case where w = x or w = [x, y].  相似文献

Let R be a noncommutative prime ring of characteristic different from 2 with Utumi quotient ring U and extended centroid C, let F, G and H be three generalized derivations of R, I an ideal of R and f(x1,..., x n ) a multilinear polynomial over C which is not central valued on R. If

Let θ be a word in n variables and let G be a group; the marginal and verbal subgroups of G determined by θ are denoted by θ(G) and θ *(G), respectively. The following problems are generally attributed to P. Hall:
  1. (I)
    If π is a set of primes and |G : θ *(G)| is a finite π-group, is θ(G) also a finite π-group?

  2. (II)
    If θ(G) is finite and G satisfies maximal condition on its subgroups, is |G : θ *(G)| finite?

  3. (III)
    If the set \({\{\theta(g_1,\ldots,g_n) \;|\; g_1,\ldots,g_n\in G\}}\) is finite, does it follow that θ(G) is finite?

We investigate the case in which θ is the n-Engel word e n  = [x, n y] for \({n\in\{2,3,4\}}\) .

Let G be a Hausdorff topological group. It is shown that there is a class C of subspaces of G, containing all (but not only) precompact subsets of G, for which the following result holds:Suppose that for every real-valued discontinuous function on G there is a set AC such that the restriction mapping f|A has no continuous extension to G; then the following are equivalent:
(i)
the left and right uniform structures of G are equivalent,
(ii)
every left uniformly continuous bounded real-valued function on G is right uniformly continuous,
(iii)
for every countable set AG and every neighborhood V of the unit e of G, there is a neighborhood U of e in G such that AUVA.
As a consequence, it is proved that items (i), (ii) and (iii) are equivalent for every inframetrizable group. These results generalize earlier ones established by Itzkowitz, Rothman, Strassberg and Wu, by Milnes and by Pestov for locally compact groups, by Protasov for almost metrizable groups, and by Troallic for groups that are quasi-k-spaces.  相似文献

A Hausdorff topological group G is minimal if every continuous isomorphism f:GH between G and a Hausdorff topological group H is open. Significantly strengthening a 1981 result of Stoyanov, we prove the following theorem: For every infinite minimal abelian group G there exists a sequence of cardinals such that

Let (Xω) be a compact connected Kähler manifold of complex dimension d and \({E_G\,\longrightarrow\,X}\) a holomorphic principal G–bundle, where G is a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over \({\mathbb{C}}\). Let Z(G) denote the center of G. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent:
  1. (1)
    There is a parabolic subgroup \({P\,\subset\,G}\) and a holomorphic reduction of structure group \({E_P\,\subset\,E_G}\) to P, such that the corresponding L(P)/Z(G)–bundle
    $E_{L(P)/Z(G)}\,:=\,E_P(L(P)/Z(G))\,\longrightarrow\,X$
    admits a unitary flat connection, where L(P) is the Levi quotient of P.

  2. (2)
    The adjoint vector bundle ad(E G ) is numerically flat.

  3. (3)
    The principal G–bundle E G is pseudostable, and
    $\int\limits_X c_2({\rm ad}(E_G))\omega^{d-2}\,=\,0.$

If X is a complex projective manifold, and ω represents a rational cohomology class, then the third statement is equivalent to the statement that E G is semistable with c 2(ad(E G )) = 0.

Let G be a graph and v be any vertex of G. Then the neighborhood contracted graphGv of G, with respect to the vertex v, is the graph with vertex set V ? N(v), where two vertices u,wV ? N(v) are adjacent in Gv if either w = v and u is adjacent to any vertex of N(v) in G or u,w ? N[v] and u,w are adjacent in G. The properties of the neighborhood contracted graphs are discussed in this paper. The neighborhood contraction in some special class of graphs, the domination in a graph and the neighborhood contracted graphs are discussed in the paper.  相似文献

This paper contains several results about the structure of the congruence kernel C(S)(G) of an absolutely almost simple simply connected algebraic group G over a global field K with respect to a set of places S of K. In particular, we show that C(S)(G)) is always trivial if S contains a generalized arithmetic progression. We also give a criterion for the centrality of C(S)(G) in the general situation in terms of the existence of commuting lifts of the groups G(Kv) for v ? S in the S-arithmetic completion ?(S). This result enables one to give simple proofs of the centrality in a number of cases. Finally, we show that if K is a number field and G is K-isotropic, then C(S)(G) as a normal subgroup of ?(S) is almost generated by a single element.  相似文献

In the present paper, we consider word maps w: G m G and word maps with constants w Σ: G m G of a simple algebraic group G, where w is a nontrivial word in the free group F m of rank m, w Σ = w 1 σ 1 w 2 ··· w r σ r w r + 1, w 1, …, w r + 1F m , w 2, …, w r ≠ 1, Σ = {σ 1, …, σ r | σ i G Z(G)}. We present results on the images of such maps, in particular, we prove a theorem on the dominance of “general” word maps with constants, which can be viewed as an analogue of a well-known theorem of Borel on the dominance of genuine word maps. Besides, we establish a relationship between the existence of unipotents in the image of a word map and the structure of the representation variety Rw, G) of the group Γw = F m /<w>.  相似文献

Let H be a subgroup of a group G generated by a finite G-invariant subset X = tU i=1 k C i that consists of elements of finite order, where C i is a class of conjugate elements of G with representative a i . We prove that
$$|H| \leqslant \prod\limits_{i = 1}^k {o(a_i )^{|C_i |} } ,$$
where o(a i ) is the order of the element a i C i . Best estimates are obtained for some important special cases.

For the system of root functions of an operator defined by the differential operation ?u″ + p(x)u′ + q(x)u, xG = (0, 1), with complex-valued singular coefficients, sufficient conditions for the Bessel property in the space L2(G) are obtained and a theorem on the unconditional basis property is proved. It is assumed that the functions p(x) and q(x) locally belong to the spaces L2 and W2?1, respectively, and may have singularities at the endpoints of G such that q(x) = qR(x) +qS(x) and the functions qS(x), p(x), q 2 S (x)w(x), p2(x)w(x), and qR(x)w(x) are integrable on the whole interval G, where w(x) = x(1 ? x).  相似文献
