In 1988 A. Gutek proved that there exist one-point connectifications of hereditarily disconnected spaces that do not have the fixed point property. We improve on this result by constructing a one-point connectification of a totally disconnected space without the fixed point property.  相似文献

In this note, we show that a monotonically normal space that is monotonically countably metacompact (monotonically meta-Lindelöf) must be hereditarily paracompact. This answers a question of H.R. Bennett, K.P. Hart and D.J. Lutzer. We also show that any compact monotonically meta-Lindelöf T2-space is first countable. In the last part of the note, we point out that there is a gap in Proposition 3.8 which appears in [H.R. Bennett, K.P. Hart, D.J. Lutzer, A note on monotonically metacompact spaces, Topology Appl. 157 (2) (2010) 456-465]. We finally give a detailed proof of how to overcome the gap.  相似文献

If a Tychonoff space X is dense in a Tychonoff space Y, then Y is called a Tychonoff extension of X. Two Tychonoff extensions Y1 and Y2 of X are said to be equivalent, if there exists a homeomorphism which keeps X pointwise fixed. This defines an equivalence relation on the class of all Tychonoff extensions of X. We identify those extensions of X which belong to the same equivalence classes. For two Tychonoff extensions Y1 and Y2 of X, we write Y2?Y1, if there exists a continuous function which keeps X pointwise fixed. This is a partial order on the set of all (equivalence classes of) Tychonoff extensions of X. If a Tychonoff extension Y of X is such that Y\X is a singleton, then Y is called a one-point extension of X. Let T(X) denote the set of all one-point extensions of X. Our purpose is to study the order structure of the partially ordered set (T(X),?). For a locally compact space X, we define an order-anti-isomorphism from T(X) onto the set of all nonempty closed subsets of βX\X. We consider various sets of one-point extensions, including the set of all one-point locally compact extensions of X, the set of all one-point Lindelöf extensions of X, the set of all one-point pseudocompact extensions of X, and the set of all one-point ?ech-complete extensions of X, among others. We study how these sets of one-point extensions are related, and investigate the relation between their order structure, and the topology of subspaces of βX\X. We find some lower bounds for cardinalities of some of these sets of one-point extensions, and in a concluding section, we show how some of our results may be applied to obtain relations between the order structure of certain subfamilies of ideals of C(X), partially ordered with inclusion, and the topology of subspaces of βX\X. We leave some problems open.  相似文献

By a metric mode of convergence to infinity in a regular Hausdorff space X, we mean a sequence of closed subsets of X with and , and a sequence (or net) in X is convergent to infinity with respect to provided for each contains eventually. Modulo a natural equivalence relation, these correspond to one-point extensions of the space with a countable base at the ideal point, and in the metrizable setting, they correspond to metric boundedness structures for the space. In this article, we study the interplay between these objects and certain continuous functions that may determine the metric mode of convergence to infinity, called forcing functions. Falling out of our results is a simple proof that each noncompact metrizable space admits uncountably many distinct metric uniformities. (Received 2 March 1999)  相似文献

In this note we prove that every Eberlein compact linearly ordered space is metrizable. (By an Eberlein compact space we mean a topological space which can be embedded as a compact subset of a Banach space with the weak topology.)  相似文献

In the paper [5] necessary and sufficient conditions (consistency conditions) under which the system of one-point probability distributions indexed by infinite boundary conditions is a subsystem of some specification were found. In this note we give an algebraic interpretation of the above consistency conditions, as well as present their physical interpretation introduced by Dachian and Nahapetian.  相似文献

We develop a theory of α-Hausdorff fuzzy topological spaces which is compatible with α-compactness and fuzzy continuity, and for α a certain type of member of a given lattice we obtain characterizations of the α-Hausdorff subspaces of the fuzzy unit interval, the fuzzy open unit interval, and the fuzzy real line. In route we give an easy proof of the Fuzzy Tychonov Theorem for α-compactness and extend the theory of one-point α-compactifications.  相似文献

The concept of p-convergence in fuzzy metric spaces, in George and Veeramani's sense, has been recently given by D. Mihet in [D. Mihet, On fuzzy contractive mappings in fuzzy metric spaces, Fuzzy Sets and Systems 158 (2007) 915-921]. In this note we study some aspects relative to this concept and characterize those fuzzy metric spaces, that we call principal, in which the family of p-convergent sequences agrees with the family of convergent sequences. Also a non-completable fuzzy metric space, which is not principal, is given.  相似文献

In this paper, we extend new selection theorems for almost lower semicontinuous multifunctions T on a paracompact topological space X to general nonconvex settings. On the basis of the Kim-Lee theorem and the Horvath selection theorem, we first show that any a.l.s.c. C-valued multifunction admits a continuous selection under a mild condition of a one-point extension property. Finally, we apply a fundamental selection theorem, due to Ben-El-Mechaiekh and Oudadess, to modify our selection theorems by adjusting a closed subset Z of X with its covering dimension dimXZ≤0. The results derived here generalize and unify various earlier ones from classic continuous selection theory.  相似文献

The aim of this note is to investigate the relationship between strictly positive random fields on a lattice ? ν and the conditional probability measures at one point given the values on a finite subset of the lattice ? ν . We exhibit necessary and sufficient conditions for a one-point finite-conditional system to correspond to a unique strictly positive probability measure. It is noteworthy that the construction of the aforementioned probability measure is done explicitly by some simple procedure. Finally, we introduce a condition on the one-point finite conditional system that is sufficient for ensuring the mixing of the underlying random field.  相似文献

In this note we give ZFC results that reduce the question of Maarten Maurice about the existence of σ-closed-discrete dense subsets of perfect generalized ordered spaces to the study of very special Baire spaces, and we discuss the current status of the question for spaces with small density. Work of Shelah, Todor?evic, Qiao, and Tall shows that Maurice's problem is undecidable for generalized ordered spaces of local density ω1.  相似文献

In the present note we shall prove that a metrisable space can be partitioned by the rational line if that space is self-dense. This gives an affirmative answer to a question raised by Rankston-McGovern [1].  相似文献

In this note we prove that the uniformity of a complete metric space X is characterized by the vector lattice structure of the set U(X) of all uniformly continuous real functions on X. (Received 3 March 2000; in revised form 29 June 2000)  相似文献

Summary In this note we establish conditions under which every midconvex set-valued function can be represented as sum of an additive function and a convex set-valued function. These results improve some theorems obtained in [8], [10] and [3]. Some results on local Jensen selections of midconvex set-valued functions are also given.  相似文献

Let X be a metric continuum and C(X) the hyperspace of all nonempty subcontinua of X. Let AC(X), A is said to make a hole in C(X), if C(X)−{A} is not unicoherent. In this paper we study the following problem.Problem: For which AC(X), A makes a hole in C(X).In this paper we present some partial solutions to this problem in the following cases: (1) A is a free arc; (2) A is a one-point set; (3) A is a free simple closed curve; (4) A=X.  相似文献

In a recent paper [6], van Mill and Mogilski prove that a proper hereditary shape equivalence preserves property C, if its domain is σ-compact. In this note, the same result is established without the hypothesis of σ-compactness.  相似文献

In the category Haus of Hausdorff spaces the only injectives are the one-point spaces. Even though every Hausdorff spaceX has a maximal essential extension,X fails to have an injective hull, providedX has more than one point. A non-empty Hausdorff space has a proper essential extension if and only ifX is locally H-closed but not H-closed. In this case,X has (up to isomorphism) precisely one proper essential extension: the Obreanu-Porter extension (being simultaneously its maximal essential extension and its minimal H-closed extension). Completely parallel results hold for the categories SReg, Reg, and Tych of semi-regular, regular, and completely regular spaces respectively. In particular, the Alexandroff compactifications of locally compact, non-compact Hausdorff spaces are characterized categorically as the proper essential extensions of non-empty spaces in Tych (resp. Reg).Dedicated to my friend Nico Pumplün on his sixtieth birthday  相似文献
