Toeplitz operators with noncommuting symbols

LetM be a von Neumann algebra with a faithful normal tracial state and letH be a finite maximal subdiagonal subalgebra ofM. LetH ² be the closure ofH in the noncommutative Lebesgue spaceL ²(M). We consider Toeplitz operators onH ² whose symbol belong toM, and find that they possess several of the properties of Toeplitz operators onH ²( ) with symbol fromL ( ), including norm estimates, a Hartman-Wintner spectral inclusion theorem, and a characterisation of the weak^* continuous linear functionals on the space of Toeplitz operators.     

Automorphisms on the Toeplitz Algebra with Piecewise Continuous Symbol on the Unit Ball

In this paper, we obtain a Fredholm index formula for Toeplitz operators whose symbols are certain piecewise continuous function matrices on the unit ball. Moreover, using this formula, we discuss the automorphisms on the corresponding Toeplitz algebra     

Almost-invertible Toeplitz operators and K-theory

We consider the question of when a Toeplitz operator with continuous symbol on a connected compact abelian group is almost invertible, and show that this occurs precisely when the symbol is invertible and has zero topological index. The proof uses someK-theory computations.     

Stable ranks of split extensions of Banach algebras

In this paper, we estimate the stable ranks of a Banach algebra in terms of the stable ranks of its quotient algebra and ideal under the assumption that the quotient map splits. As an application, several results about the Bass and the connected stable ranks of nest algebras are obtained.     

Generalized biderivations of nest algebras

Let N be a nest on a complex separable Hilbert space H, and τ(N) be the associated nest algebra. In this paper, we prove that every biderivation of τ(N) is an inner biderivation if and only if dim 0₊ ≠ 1 or , and that every generalized biderivation of τ(N) is an inner generalized biderivation if dim 0₊ ≠ 1 and .     

Jordan derivations of triangular algebras

In this note, it is shown that every Jordan derivation of triangular algebras is a derivation.     

All-derivable points of operator algebras

Let A be an operator subalgebra in B(H), where H is a Hilbert space. We say that an element Z∈A is an all-derivable point of A for the norm-topology (strongly operator topology, etc.) if, every norm-topology (strongly operator topology, etc.) continuous derivable linear mapping φ at Z (i.e. φ(ST)=φ(S)T+Sφ(T) for any S,T∈A with ST=Z) is a derivation. In this paper, we show that every invertible operator in the nest algebra is an all-derivable point of the nest algebra for the strongly operator topology. We also prove that every nonzero element of the algebra of all 2×2 upper triangular matrixes is an all-derivable point of the algebra.     

Jordan higher derivations on triangular algebras

In this paper, we show that any Jordan higher derivation on a triangular algebra is a higher derivation. This extends the main result in [13] to the case of higher derivations.     

Local derivations on certain CSL algebras

In this paper, it is shown that every norm continuous linear local derivation from an arbitrary CSL algebra whose lattice is generated by finitely many independent nests into any ultraweakly closed subalgebra which contains the algebra is an inner derivation, and that every norm continuous linear local derivation from an arbitrary CSL algebra whose lattice is completely distributive into any ultraweakly closed subalgebra which contains the algebra is a derivation.     

Derivations for a class of matrix function algebras

We study a class of matrix function algebras, here denoted T⁺(C_n). We introduce a notion of point derivations, and classify the point derivations for certain finite dimensional representations of T⁺(C_n). We use point derivations and information about n×n matrices to show that every T⁺(C_n)-valued derivation on T⁺(C_n) is inner.     

Norms of Toeplitz and Hankel Operators on Hardy Type Subspaces of Rearrangement-Invariant Spaces

We prove analogues of the Brown-Halmos and Nehari theorems on the norms of Toeplitz and Hankel operators, respectively, acting on subspaces of Hardy type of reflexive rearrangement-invariant spaces with nontrivial Boyd indices.     

On Toeplitz operators with quasihomogeneous symbols

In this paper, we give some basic results concerning Toeplitz operators whose symbol is of the form e^{i p θ}ϕ, where ϕ is a radial function, then use these results to characterize all Toeplitz operators which commute with them.Received: 12 June 2004; revised: 27 January 2005     

Herz Classes and Toeplitz Operators in the Disk

In this paper we decompose into diadic annuli and consider the class S_p,q of Toeplitz operators T_φ for which the sequence of Schatten norms belongs to ℓ^q, where φ_n = φχ A_n. We study the boundedness and compactness of the operators in S_p,q and we describe the operators T_φ , φ ≥ 0 in these spaces in terms of weighted Herz norms of the averaging operator of the symbols φ.     

On some maximal non-selfadjoint operator algebras

We show that the reflexive algebra given by the lattice generated by a maximal nest and a rank one projection is maximal with respect to its diagonal.     

Characterizations of derivations of Banach space nest algebras: All-derivable points

Let N be a nest on a complex Banach space X with N∈N complemented in X whenever N_-=N, and let AlgN be the associated nest algebra. We say that an operator Z∈AlgN is an all-derivable point of AlgN if every linear map δ from AlgN into itself derivable at Z (i.e. δ(A)B+Aδ(B)=δ(Z) for any A,B∈A with AB=Z) is a derivation. In this paper, it is shown that if Z∈AlgN is an injective operator or an operator with dense range, or an idempotent operator with ran(Z)∈N, then Z is an all-derivable point of AlgN. Particularly, if N is a nest on a complex Hilbert space, then every idempotent operator with range in N, every injective operator as well as every operator with dense range in AlgN is an all-derivable point of the nest algebra AlgN.     

Commutative <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis>*-Algebras of Toeplitz Operators on the Unit Ball,I. Bargmann-Type Transforms and Spectral Representations of Toeplitz Operators

Extending known results for the unit disk, we prove that for the unit ball there exist n+2 different cases of commutative C*-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators, acting on weighted Bergman spaces. In all cases the bounded measurable symbols of Toeplitz operators are invariant under the action of certain commutative subgroups of biholomorphisms of the unit ball. Products of Toeplitz Operators on the Bergman Space

In 1962 Brown and Halmos gave simple conditions for the product of two Toeplitz operators on Hardy space to be equal to a Toeplitz operator. Recently, Ahern and Cucković showed that a similar result holds for Toeplitz operators with bounded harmonic symbols on Bergman space. For general symbols, the situation is much more complicated. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the product to be a Toeplitz operator (Theorem 6.1), an explicit formula for the symbol of the product in certain cases (Theorem 6.4), and then show that almost anything can happen (Theorem 6.7).     

Dynamics of Properties of Toeplitz Operators with Radial Symbols

In the case of radial symbols we study the behavior of different properties (boundedness, compactness, spectral properties, etc.) of Toeplitz operators T_a⁽⁾ acting on weighted Bergman spaces over the unit disk , in dependence on , and compare their limit behavior under with corresponding properties of the initial symbol a.
