We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally a novel type of localized beam supported by the combined effects of total internal and Bragg reflection in nonlinear two-dimensional square periodic structures. Such localized states exhibit strong anisotropy in their mobility properties, being highly mobile in one direction and trapped in the other, making them promising candidates for optical routing in nonlinear lattices.  相似文献

An approach is developed for analyzing fluctuation effects in quasiharmonic oscillators formed by connecting a nonlinear inertialess element to a resonator. The effect of the nonlinear element on the resonator is treated as a pulsed process. It is assumed that the effect of noise on the system destroys the coherence and changes the response parameters of the resonator to pulse effects, this, ultimately, being responsible for the amplitude and frequency fluctuations. An equation is obtained that describes the fluctuations of the oscillation period. A detailed study is made of the fluctuations of the period in an electronic oscillator due to white noise.  相似文献

 基于高功率微波(HPM)混合气体传输模型,系统阐述了考虑磁效应条件下HPM窄波束在低电离层中传输时的聚焦与散焦原理,推导了考虑外加磁场和HPM热效应情况下,窄波束在低电离层中传输的非线性几何光学方程及聚焦和散焦特性描述参数,并对低电离层中的波束发散特性进行了仿真分析。仿真结果表明:低电离层表现出的散焦特性,使HPM窄波束发散,L,R,O,X波均发生了波束发散现象,且R波的波束发散角最大,O,X波次之,L波最小,但随着入射波频率的增加,这种差别逐渐减小;相同条件下,入射波频率越高,散焦现象越弱;一定入射波频率条件下,波束轴线上的场强越大,波束发散现象越明显。  相似文献

Glassy and elastomeric nematic networks with dye molecules present can be very responsive to illumination, huge reversible strains being possible. If absorption is appreciable, strain decreases with depth into a cantilever, leading to bend that is the basis of micro-opto-mechanical systems (MOMS). Bend actually occurs even when Beer's law suggests a tiny penetration of light into a heavily dye-doped system. We model the nonlinear opto-elastic processes behind this effect. In the regime of cantilever thickness giving optimal bending for a given incident light intensity, there are three neutral surfaces. In practice such nonlinear absorptive effects are very important since heavily doped systems are commonly used.  相似文献

The effects of the direction of transition dipole moment on polarization-dependent phase-conjugate (PC) reflectivity by degenerate four-wave mixing in a saturable-dye-doped film are theoretically investigated. On the basis of a four-energy-level model for the saturable dyes, the pump-intensity dependence of the PC reflectivity is calculated for the two cases of a probe wave being polarized either parallel or perpendicular to pump waves, when the transition dipole moment associated with excited-state absorption tilts from that associated with ground-state one. For the parallel polarization, in the case of two transition dipole moments having different directions, a dip appears in the PC reflectivity curve near a resonant frequency on account of the characteristics of nonlinear absorption, whereas it disappears when the frequency of light is off resonance due to the influence of nonlinear refractive index.  相似文献

We report on the ultrafast third-order optical nonlinearity in multilayer Au/TiO2 composite films fabricated on quartz substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique. The linear optical properties of the films are determined and optical absorption peaks due to surface plasmon resonance of Au particles are observed at about 590hm. The third-order optical nonlinearities of the films are investigated by z-scan method using a femtosecond laser (50 fs) at the wavelength of 800 nm. The sample showed fast nonlinear optical responses with nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refractive index being -3.66 × 10^-10 m/W and -2.95 × 10^-17 m^2/W, respectively. The results also show that the nonlinear optical effects increase with the increasing Au concentration in the composite films.  相似文献

We numerically study a stable multiple-pulse operation of passively modelocked stretched pulse fiber ring laser. The simulation results show that multiple pulses are formed with being triggered by radiation from a single pulse in a restricted parameter range. In order to obtain a better understanding of the effect of gain bandwidth and nonlinear gain on harmonic modelocking process of multiple-pulse operation, we analyze those effects in detail.  相似文献

With the increases of transmitted power and the escalating of transmission rate, the originally unobvious nonlinear effects in the optical fiber gradually affect the transmission quality adversely. So the nonlinear effects in the channels need to be perceived dynamically. In this paper, the nonlinear phase shift perceptual model is set up by analyzing the impacts on transmission quality caused by nonlinear effects and experimental simulation analysis. This model can comprehensively perceive the impairment done to the optical channels by nonlinear effects, the relationship of the nonlinear phase shift and the impacts on the transmission quality BER and the threshold of the nonlinear phase shift which could meet the quality requirements of optical communication is obtained after the simulation experiment for the model.  相似文献

Major advances in the observation and theory of cosmic microwave background anisotropies have opened up a new era in cosmology. This has encouraged the hope that the fundamental parameters of cosmology will be determined to high accuracy in the near future. However, this optimism should not obscure the ongoing need for theoretical developments that go beyond the highly successful but simplified standard model. Such developments include improvements in observational modelling (e.g. foregrounds, non-Gaussian features), extensions and alternatives to the simplest inflationary paradigm (e.g. non-adiabatic effects, defects), and investigation of nonlinear effects. In addition to well known nonlinear effects such as the Rees–Sciama and Ostriker–Vishniac effects, further nonlinear effects have recently been identified. These include a Rees–Sciama-type tensor effect, time-delay effects of scalar and tensor lensing, nonlinear Thomson scattering effects and a nonlinear shear effect. Some of the nonlinear effects and their potential implications are discussed.  相似文献

We investigate periodic inversion and phase transition of normal and displaced finite-energy Airy beams propagating in nonlocal nonlinear media with the split-step Fourier method. Numerical simulation results show that parameters such as the degree of nonlocality and amplitude have profound effects on the intensity distribution of the period of an Airy beam. Nonlocal nonlinear media will reduce into a harmonic potential if the nonlocality is strong enough, which results in the beam fluctuating in an approximately cosine mode. The beam profile changes from an Airy profile to a Gaussian one at a critical point, and during propagation the process repeats to form an unusual oscillation. We also briefly discus the two-dimensional case, being equivalent to a product of two one-dimensional cases.  相似文献

A means of nonlinear interferential comb spectroscopy with increased sensitivity is propsed. Radiation from the comb-generator of a femtosecond laser is focused at the center of a cell with vapors of rubidium atoms, mounted in an arm of a Michelson interferometer. This technique is an improvement of Rozhdestvenski hooks method, with digital registration by the detectors on a CCD array being substituted for the photographic registration of interferograms, resulting in increased interferometric sensitivity (holographic interferometry). A primary spectrogram is processed in digital form on a dual-beam interferometer equipped with a phase modulator to improve sensitivity with the possibility of an a posteriori increase in interferometric sensitivity. Dispersive signals appear in the interferogram spectrogram on two-photon absorption lines when the pumping radiation is focused at the center of a cell with Rb vapors. Nonlinear processes of coherent radiation due to nonlinear interference effects are studied. Numerical simulations are performed that confirm the proposed theoretical model.  相似文献

根据光纤中磁光效应与非线性效应的微扰理论,推导了磁光光纤中光脉冲的非线性耦合模方程,比较了修正的分步傅里叶算法中磁光效应的时域和频域处理方案,表明了在步长足够小的情况下,两种方案的结果一致.分析了磁光效应、光纤非线性以及色散对光脉冲传输特性的影响,通过改变磁光耦合强度,不但可以灵活控制脉冲形状,还可以改变非线性引起的频率啁啾大小,有助于实现基于光脉冲展宽的动态整形功能.本文给出的理论分析方法,有助于开发可用于光纤通信、光纤传感等领域的基于非线性磁光光纤的新型磁光信息处理器件.  相似文献

A novel, free from paraxial approximation and computationally efficient numerical algorithm capable of predicting 4D acoustic fields in lossy and nonlinear media from arbitrary shaped sources (relevant to probes used in medical ultrasonic imaging and therapeutic systems) is described. The new WE (wave envelopes) approach to nonlinear propagation modeling is based on the solution of the second order nonlinear differential wave equation reported in [J. Wójcik, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 104 (1998) 2654-2663; V.P. Kuznetsov, Akust. Zh. 16 (1970) 548-553]. An incremental stepping scheme allows for forward wave propagation. The operator-splitting method accounts independently for the effects of full diffraction, absorption and nonlinear interactions of harmonics. The WE method represents the propagating pulsed acoustic wave as a superposition of wavelet-like sinusoidal pulses with carrier frequencies being the harmonics of the boundary tone burst disturbance. The model is valid for lossy media, arbitrarily shaped plane and focused sources, accounts for the effects of diffraction and can be applied to continuous as well as to pulsed waves. Depending on the source geometry, level of nonlinearity and frequency bandwidth, in comparison with the conventional approach the Time-Averaged Wave Envelopes (TAWE) method shortens computational time of the full 4D nonlinear field calculation by at least an order of magnitude; thus, predictions of nonlinear beam propagation from complex sources (such as phased arrays) can be available within 30-60 min using only a standard PC. The approximate ratio between the computational time costs obtained by using the TAWE method and the conventional approach in calculations of the nonlinear interactions is proportional to 1/N2, and in memory consumption to 1/N where N is the average bandwidth of the individual wavelets. Numerical computations comparing the spatial field distributions obtained by using both the TAWE method and the conventional approach (based on a Fourier series representation of the propagating wave) are given for circular source geometry, which represents the most challenging case from the computational time point of view. For two cases, short (2 cycle) and long (8 cycle) 2 MHz bursts, the computational times were 10 min and 15 min versus 2 h and 8 h for the TAWE method versus the conventional method, respectively.  相似文献

Distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) fine structure is due to the interaction of two major components coming from different places in the cochlea. One component is generated from the region of maximal overlap of the traveling waves generated by the two primaries and is attributed to nonlinear distortion (nonlinear component). The other component arises predominantly from the tonotopic region of the distortion product and is attributed to linear coherent reflection (reflection component). Aspirin (salicylate) ototoxicity can cause reversible hearing loss and reduces otoacoustic emission generation in the cochlea. The two components are expected to be affected differentially by cochlear health. Changes in DPOAE fine structure were recorded longitudinally in three subjects before, during, and after aspirin consumption. Full data sets were analyzed for two subjects, but only partial data could be analyzed from the third subject. Resulting changes in the two components of DPOAE fine structure revealed variability among subjects and differential effects on the two components. For low-intensity primaries, both components were reduced with the reflection component being more vulnerable. For high-intensity primaries, the nonlinear component showed little or no change, but the reflection component was always reduced.  相似文献

The distortion of a spontaneous downconversion process caused by an auxiliary mode coupled to the idler wave is analyzed. In general, a strong coupling with the auxiliary mode tends to hinder the downconversion in the nonlinear medium. On the other hand, provided that the evolution is disturbed by the presence of a phase mismatch, the coupling may increase the speed of the downconversion. These effects are interpreted as being manifestations of quantum Zeno or anti-Zeno effects, respectively, and they are understood by using the dressed modes picture of the device. The possibility of using the coupling as a nontrivial phase-matching technique is pointed out.  相似文献

This paper describes nonlinear ion transport properties of liquid and solid electrolytes. Typically, the relation between ionic current density and electric field becomes nonlinear at electric fields above 50–100?kV/cm. We review the 1st and 2nd Wien effect found in classical strong and weak electrolyte solutions as well as the strong nonlinear ion transport effects observed for inorganic glasses and for polymer electrolytes. Furthermore, we give an overview over models describing nonlinear ion transport in electrolyte solutions, in glasses and in polymers. Recent results are presented for the nonlinear ionic conductivity of supercooled ionic liquids. We show that supercooled ionic liquids exhibit anomalous Wien effects, which are clearly distinct from the classical Wien effects. We also discuss the frequency dependence of higher-order conductivity and permittivity spectra of these liquids.  相似文献
