We study compactness properties of linear operators from an Orlicz space LΦ provided with a natural mixed topology to a Banach space (X, || · ||X). We derive that every Bochner representable operator is -compact. In particular, it is shown that every Bochner representable operator is (τ(L, L1), || · ||X)-compact.   相似文献

We give some criteria for extreme points and strong U-points in generalized Orlicz–Lorentz sequence spaces, which were introduced in [P. Foralewski, H. Hudzik, L. Szymaszkiewicz, On some geometric and topological properties of generalized Orlicz–Lorentz sequence spaces, Math. Nachr. (in press)] (cf. [G.G. Lorentz, An inequality for rearrangements, Amer. Math. Monthly 60 (1953) 176–179; M. Nawrocki, The Mackey topology of some F-spaces, Ph.D. Dissertation, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, 1984 (in Polish)]). Some examples show that in these spaces the notion of the strong U-point is essentially stronger than the notion of the extreme point. This paper is related to the results from [A. Kamińska, Extreme points in Orlicz–Lorentz spaces, Arch. Math. 55 (1990) 173–180] (see Remark 1).  相似文献

By the Von Neumann inequality every contraction on a Hilbert space is polynomially bounded. A simple example shows that this result does not extend to Banach space contractions. In this paper, we give general conditions under which an arbitrary Banach space contraction is polynomially bounded. These conditions concern the thinness of the spectrum and the behaviour of the resolvent or the sequence of negative powers. To do this we use techniques from harmonic analysis, in particular, results concerning thin sets such as Helson sets, Kronecker sets and sets that satisfy spectral synthesis.  相似文献

We establish criteria for the validity of modular inequalities for the Hardy operator on the cone Ω of nonnegative decreasing functions from weighted Orlicz spaces with general weight. The result is based on the theorem on the reduction of modular inequalities for positively homogeneous operators on the cone Ω, which enables passing to modular inequalities for modified operators on the cone of all nonnegative functions from an Orlicz space. It is shown that, for the Hardy operator, the modified operator is a generalized Hardy operator. This enables us to establish explicit criteria for the validity of modular inequalities.  相似文献

Modular inequalities and inequalities for the norms of Hardy-type operators on the cone Ω of positive functions and on the cone of positive decreasing functions with common weight and common Young function in a weighted Orlicz space are considered. A reduction theorem for the norm of the Hardy operator on the cone Ω is obtained. It is shown that this norm is equivalent to the norm of a modified operator on the cone of all positive functions in the space under consideration. It is proved that the modified operator is a generalized Hardy-type operator. The equivalence of modular inequalities on the cone Ω and modified modular inequalities on the cone of all positive functions in the Orlicz space is shown. A criterion for the validity of such inequalities in general Orlicz spaces is obtained and refined for weighted Lebesgue spaces.  相似文献
