The theory of a vibrating-rod viscometer   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The paper presents a complete theory for a viscometer based upon the principle of a circular-section rod, immersed in a fluid, performing transverse oscillations perpendicular to its axis. The theory is established as a result of a detailed analysis of the fluid flow around the rod and is subject to a number of criteria which subsequently constrain the design of an instrument. Using water as an example it is shown that a practical instrument can be designed so as to enable viscosity measurement with an accuracy of ±0.1%, although it is noted that many earlier instruments failed to satisfy one or more of the newly-established constraints.Nomenclature A, D constants in equation (46) - A m , B m , C m , D m constants in equations (50) and (51) - A j , B j constants in equation (14) - a j + , a j wavenumbers given by equation (15) - C f drag coefficient defined in equation (53) - c speed of sound - D b drag force of fluid b - D 0 coefficient of internal damping - E extensional modulus - f(z) initial deformation of rod - f(), F m () functions of defined in equation (41) - F force in the rod - force per unit length near t=0 - F dimensionless force per unit length near t=0 - g m amplitude of transient force - G modulus of rigidity - h, h* functions defined by equations (71) and (72) - H functions defined by equation (69) and (70) - I second moment of area - I 0,1, J 0,1, K 0,1 modified Bessel functions - k, k functions defined in equations (2) - L half-length of oscillator - Ma Mach number - m b added mass per unit length of fluid b - m s mass per unit length of solid - n j eigenvalue defined in equations (15) and (16) - R radius of rod - R c radius of container - r radial coordinate - T tension - T visc temperature rise due to heat generation by viscous dissipation - t time - v r , v radial and angular velocity components - y lateral displacement - y 0 initial lateral displacement - y 1, y 2 successive maximum lateral displacement - z axial coordinate - dimensionless tension - dimensionless mass of fluid - dimensionless drag of fluid - amplification factor - logarithmic decrement in a fluid - a , b logarithmic decrement in fluids a and b - 0 logarithmic decrement in vacuo - j logarithmic decrement in mode j in a fluid - spatial resolution of amplitude - v voltage resolution - r, , , s, , increments in R, , , s , , - dimensionless amplitude of oscillation - dimensionless axial coordinate - angular coordinate - f thermal conductivity of fluid - viscosity of fluid - viscosity of fluid calculated on assumption that * - a , b viscosity of fluids a and b - m constants in equation (10) - dimensionless displacement - j j the component of - density of fluid - a , b density of fluids a and b - s density of tube or rod material - dimensionless radial coordinate - * dimensionless radius of container - dimensionless times - spatial component of defined in equation (11) - j , tm jth, mth component of - dimensionless streamfunction - 0, 1 components of in series expansion in powers of - streamfunction - dimensionless frequency (based on ) - angular frequency - 0 angular frequency in absence of fluid and internal damping - j angular frequency in mode j in a fluid - a , b frequencies in fluids a and b  相似文献

We consider infiltration into a soil that is assumed to have hydraulic conductivity of the form K = K = Kseh and water content of the form = K – r. Here h denotes capillary pressure head while Ks, , and r represent soil specific parameters. These assumptions linearize the flow equation and permit a closed form solution that displays the roles of all the parameters appearing in the hydraulic function K and . We assume Ks and r to be known. A measurement of diffusivity fixes the product of and resulting in a parameter identification problem for one parameter. We show that this parameter identification problem, in some cases, has a unique solution. We also show that, in some cases, this parameter identification problem can have multiple solutions, or no solution. In addition it is shown that solutions to the parameter identification problem can be very sensitive to small changes in the problem data.  相似文献

We consider the parametrized family of equations tt ,u- xx u-au+u 2 2 u=O,x(0,L), with Dirichlet boundary conditions. This equation has finite-dimensional invariant manifolds of solutions. Studying the reduced equation to a four-dimensional manifold, we prove the existence of transversal homoclinic orbits to periodic solutions and of invariant sets with chaotic dynamics, provided that =2, 3, 4,.... For =1 we prove the existence of infinitely many first integrals pairwise in involution.  相似文献

Electron drift in specified fields has been examined in [1] and, as applied to a magnetron, in [2–4] with the averaging method. In [1,2], a first- and in [3,4] in a second-order approximation of the small parameter ) E/2L was used. Here and below, E and H=(c/) are the field strengths, L is the characteristic dimension of the field heterogeneity, is the charge-mass ratio of an electron (>0), and c is the velocity of light. An attempt to construct similar approximations for a drifting electron beam with allowance for the space-charge field, within the framework of the averaging method, involves considerable mathematical difficulties. This paper describes an attempt to solve the latter problem for a stationary monoenergetic beam that drifts under the influence of a plane electric field with potential (x,y) across a strong homogeneous magnetic field Hz H=const. Solutions are constructed by the method of successive approximations, in powers of the parameter =h/L, where h is the Larmor electron radius for narrow beams with a width on the order of 2h.I thank A. N. Ievlevu for assistance in the computational and graphical work, V. Ya. Kislov for a discussion of the results, and L. A. Vainshtein for suggesting the problem examined in §3 and for critical comments.  相似文献

Nonlinear wave processes in shockloaded elastoplastic materials are modeled. A comparison of the results obtained with experimental data and numerical solutions of exact systems of dynamic equations shows that the model equations proposed qualitatively describe the stressdistribution evolution in both the elasticflow and plasticflow regions and can be used to solve one and twodimensional problems of pulsed deformation and fracture of elastoplastic media.  相似文献

Calculations of the flow of the mixture 0.94 CO2+0.05 N2+0.01 Ar past the forward portion of segmentai bodies are presented. The temperature, pressure, and concentration distributions are given as a function of the pressure ahead of the shock wave and the body velocity. Analysis of the concentration distribution makes it possible to formulate a simplified model for the chemical reaction kinetics in the shock layer that reflects the primary flow characteristics. The density distributions are used to verify the validity of the binary similarity law throughout the shock layer region calculated. The flow of a CO2+N2+Ar gas mixture of varying composition past a spherical nose was examined in [1]. The basic flow properties in the shock layer were studied, particularly flow dependence on the free-stream CO2 and N2 concentration.New revised data on the properties of the Venusian atmosphere have appeared in the literature [2, 3] One is the dominant CO2 concentration. This finding permits more rigorous formulation of the problem of blunt body motion in the Venus atmosphere, and attention can be concentrated on revising the CO2 thermodynamic and kinetic properties that must be used in the calculation. The problem of supersonic nonequilibrium flow past a blunt body is solved within the framework of the problem formulation of [4].Notation V body velocity - shock wave standoff - universal gas constant - ratio of frozen specific heats - hRt/m enthalpy per unit mass undisturbed stream P pressure - density - T temperature - m molecular weight - cp specific heat at constant pressure - (X) concentration of component X (number of particles in unit mass) - R body radius of curvature at the stagnation point - j rate of j-th chemical reaction shock layer P V 2 pressure - density - TT temperature - mm molecular weight Translated from Izv. The behavior of the neutral stability curves is investigated for various values of the particle relaxation time and mass concentration 0 100 and 0 f 0.1. It is shown that as increases from zero the flow is at first destabilized and then at >6 becomes stable, while at >40 the stabilizing effect of the dispersed phase grows weaker. It is found that there is a certain interval 10< <40 on which the flow is most stable.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 1, pp. 46–53, January–February, 1986.  相似文献

We study isolated singularities of the quasilinear equation in an open set of N , where 1 < p N, p -1 q < N(p — 1)/ (N -p). We prove that, for any positive solution, if a singularity at the origin is not removable then either or u(x)/(x) any positive constant as x 0 where is the fundamental solution of the p-harmonic equation: . Global positive solutions are also classified.  相似文献

The deformation of particle image patterns due to velocity gradients causes errors of velocity measurements and false velocity detections in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). A novel technique to overcome those limitations inherent in the conventional PIV by correcting the particle image pattern according to the local velocity gradients in two dimensional flows, i.e. u/x, u/y, v/x and v/y, is proposed and successfully applied to a water flow downstream of a backward facing step.  相似文献

Summary The problem of flow development from an initially flat velocity profile in the plane Poiseuille and Couette flow geometry is investigated for a viscous fluid. The basic governing momentum and continuity equations are expressed in finite difference form and solved numerically on a high speed digital computer for a mesh network superimposed on the flow field. Results are obtained for the variations of velocity, pressure and resistance coefficient throughout the development region. A characteristic development length is defined and evaluated for both types of flow.Nomenclature h width of channel - L ratio of development length to channel width - p fluid pressure - p 0 pressure at channel mouth - P dimensionless pressure, p/ 2 - P 0 dimensionless pressure at channel mouth - P pressure defect, P 0P - (P)0 pressure defect neglecting inertia - Re Reynolds number, uh/ - u fluid velocity in x-direction - mean u velocity across channel - u 0 wall velocity - U dimensionles u velocity u/ - U c dimensionless centreline velocity - U 0 dimensionless wall velocity - v fluid velocity in y-direction - V dimensionless v velocity, hv/ - x coordinate along channel - X dimensionless x-coordinate, x/h 2 - y coordinate across channel - Y dimensionless y-coordinate, y/h - resistance coefficient, - 0 resistance coefficient neglecting inertia - fluid density - fluid viscosity  相似文献

The work describes a way to obtain loss modulus and storage modulus master curves from oscillatory measurements of silicone oils. The loss modulus master curve represents the dependence of the viscous flow behavior on · 0 * and the storage modulus master curve — the dependence of the elastic flow behavior on · 0 * .The relation between the values of the loss modulus and storage modulus master curves (at a certain frequency) is a measurement of the viscoelastic behavior of a system. The G/G-ratio depends on · 0 * which leads to a viscoelastic master curve. The viscoelastic master curve represents the relation between the elastic and viscous oscillatory flow behavior.  相似文献

Linear and nonlinear viscoelastic properties were examined for a 50 wt% suspension of spherical silica particles (with radius of 40 nm) in a viscous medium, 2.27/1 (wt/wt) ethylene glycol/glycerol mixture. The effective volume fraction of the particles evaluated from zero-shear viscosities of the suspension and medium was 0.53. At a quiescent state the particles had a liquid-like, isotropic spatial distribution in the medium. Dynamic moduli G* obtained for small oscillatory strain (in the linear viscoelastic regime) exhibited a relaxation process that reflected the equilibrium Brownian motion of those particles. In the stress relaxation experiments, the linear relaxation modulus G(t) was obtained for small step strain (0.2) while the nonlinear relaxation modulus G(t, ) characterizing strong stress damping behavior was obtained for large (>0.2). G(t, ) obeyed the time-strain separability at long time scales, and the damping function h() (–G(t, )/G(t)) was determined. Steady flow measurements revealed shear-thinning of the steady state viscosity () for small shear rates (< –1; = linear viscoelastic relaxation time) and shear-thickening for larger (>–1). Corresponding changes were observed also for the viscosity growth and decay functions on start up and cessation of flow, + (t, ) and (t, ). In the shear-thinning regime, the and dependence of +(t,) and (t,) as well as the dependence of () were well described by a BKZ-type constitutive equation using the G(t) and h() data. On the other hand, this equation completely failed in describing the behavior in the shear-thickening regime. These applicabilities of the BKZ equation were utilized to discuss the shearthinning and shear-thickening mechanisms in relation to shear effects on the structure (spatial distribution) and motion of the suspended particles.Dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dale S. Let X be a convex metric space with the property that every decreasing sequence of nonenply dosed subsets of X with diameters tending to has menemptyintersection. This paper proved that if T is a mapping of a elosed conver nonempty subset K of X into itself satisfying the inequality:d(Tx,Ty)≤ad(x,t)+b{d(x,Tx)+d(y,Ty)}+c{d(x,Tx)+d(y,Ty)}for all x,y in K,where 0≤a<1,b≥0,c≥0,a+c≠0 and a+2b+3c≤1, then T has a unique fixed point in K.  相似文献

A theory analogue to tha of Rouse is given, to describe the rheological behavior of dilute solutions consisting of clusters of crosslinked polymers. The frequency-dependent behavior of the dynamic moduli of these fluids differs substantially from that of the well-known Rouse-like fluid (GG1/2). In our case the storage modulus becomes proportional to 3/2, while the loss modulus is proportional to . The loss modulus dominates the dynamic behavior for frequencies smaller than the largest normal frequency of the clusters.  相似文献

Since the temperature is not an additive function, the traditional thermodynamic point of view suggests that the volume integral of the temperature has no precise physical meaning. This observation conflicts with the customary analysis of non-isothermal catalytic reactors, heat pipes, driers, geothermal processes, etc., in which the volume averaged temperature plays a crucial role. In this paper we identify the thermodynamic significance of the volume averaged temperature in terms of a simple two-phase heat transfer process. Given the internal energy as a function of the point temperature and the density
we show that the volume averaged internal energy is represented by e = F(T , )when e is a linear function of T and , or when the traditional length-scale constraints associated with the method of volume averaging are satisfied. When these conditions are not met, higher order terms involving the temperature gradient and the density gradient appear in the representation for e .  相似文献

A study has been made of the flow formed in a supersonic nozzle when gas is blown in a transverse jet into an expanding supersonic flow. Measurements were made of the total and static pressures of the flow at several sections of the nozzle. It was established that, depending on the relative flow rate = mj/(mj+ m0) of the blown gas (mjand m0 are the flow rates of the blown gas and the main flow, respectively), there exist two flow regimes with different dependences of the Mach number of the flow. At small , the experimental flow parameters correspond satisfactorily to the parameters calculated in a one-dimensional model with a narrow mixing layer near the blowing section. Agreement was observed at flow rates less than a certain *, this critical value being determined in the model as the flow rate at which the flow after mixing becomes sonic. In the experiments at large flow rates of the blown gas, * < < 1, the value of M for the flow hardly depends on and corresponds to the calculated value of M for a supersonic flow having the velocity of sound near the blowing section. A scheme is proposed for calculating the flow in a nozzle with transverse blowing in the supersonic part; it describes satisfactorily the experimental results in the complete range of blown-gas-main-flow flow rate ratios (0 1) over the complete length of the nozzle.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 188–192, May–June, 1984.  相似文献

Viscous and Joule dissipation effects are considered on MHD free convection flow past a semi-infinite isothermal vertical plate under a uniform transverse magnetic field. Series solutions in powers of a dissipation number (=gx/c p) have been employed and the resulting ordinary differential equations have been solved numerically. The velocity and temperature profiles are shown on graphs and the numerical values of 1(0)/0(0) (, temperature function) have been tabulated. It is observed that the dissipation effects in the MHD case become more dominant with increasing values of the magnetic field parameter (=M 2/(Gr x /4)1/2) and the Prandtl number.  相似文献

Direct numerical simulation data for the lateral velocity derivative u/y at the centreline of a fully developed turbulent channel flow provide reasonable support for Wyngaard's analysis of the error involved in measuring this quantity using parallel hot wires. Numerical data in the wall region of the channel flow also provide a useful indication of how to select the separation between the wires. Justification for this choice is obtained by comparing several measured statistics of u/y with the corresponding numerical data.  相似文献
