Summary  In this contribution, the mechanical behaviour of different ZrO2/NiCr 80 20 compositions is analysed and compared with experimental findings. The microwave-sintered material is found to possess a slightly dominant ceramic matrix for intermediate volume fractions. Its thermal expansion coefficient deviates from the rule of mixture. The modulus and the stress strain behaviour can be simulated by a numerical homogenization procedure, and the influence of residual stresses is found to be negligible. A newly introduced parameter (matricity) describes the mutual circumvention of the phases and is found to strongly control the stress level of the composite, globally as well as locally. Finally, a graded component and a metal/ceramic bi-material are compared for thermal as well as mechanical loading. Received 23 November 1999; accepted for publication 26 May 2000  相似文献

This paper presents a hybrid graded element model for the transient heat conduction problem in functionally graded materials (FGMs). First, a Laplace transform approach is used to handle the time variable. Then, a fundamental solution in Laplace space for FGMs is constructed. Next, a hybrid graded element is formulated based on the obtained fundamental solution and a frame field. As a result, the graded properties of FGMs are naturally reflected by using the fundamental solution to interpolate the intra-element field. Further, Stefest’s algorithm is employed to convert the results in Laplace space back into the time-space domain. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is assessed by several benchmark examples. The results demonstrate well the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.  相似文献

A thermoelastic solid is modelled by letting the heat flux be given by a rate equation. As any constitutive property, the rate equation has to be objective and consistent with thermodynamics. Accordingly, firstly a theorem is given that characterizes objective time derivatives. This allows the known objective time derivatives to be viewed as particular elements of the set so specified. Next the thermodynamic consistency is established for the constitutive models involving objective time derivatives within appropriate sets. It emerges that the thermodynamic consistency holds provided the stress contains additively terms quadratic in the heat flux vector in a form that is related to the derivative adopted for the rate of the heat flux.  相似文献

The aim of the contribution is to formulate a macroscopic mathematical model describing the dynamic behaviour of a certain composite thin plates. The plates are made of two-phase stratified composites with a smooth and a slow gradation of macroscopic properties along the stratification. The formulation of mathematical model of these plates is based on a tolerance averaging approach (Woźniak, Michalak, Jędrysiak in Thermomechanics of microheterogeneous solids and structures, 2008). The presented general results are illustrated by analysis of the natural frequencies for two cases of plates: a plate band and an annular plate. The spatial volume fractions of the two different isotropic homogeneous components are optimized so as to maximize or minimize the first natural frequency of the plate under consideration.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the theoretical treatment of the steady-state thermoelastic problem of a functionally graded cylindrical panel due to nonuniform heat supply in the circumferential direction. The thermal and thermoelastic constants of the cylindrical panel are expressed as power functions of the radial coordinate. We obtain the exact solution for the two-dimensional temperature change in a steady state, and thermal stresses of a simple supported cylindrical panel under the state of plane strain. Some numerical results are shown in figures and tables. Furthermore, the influence of the nonhomogeneity of the material, the radius ratio and the span angle upon the temperature change, displacements and stresses is investigated.  相似文献

A paper focuses on implementation of the sampling surfaces (SaS) method for the three-dimensional (3D) exact solutions for functionally graded (FG) piezoelectric laminated shells. According to this method, we introduce inside the nth layer In not equally spaced SaS parallel to the middle surface of the shell and choose displacements and electric potentials of these surfaces as basic shell variables. Such choice of unknowns yields, first, a very compact form of governing equations of the FG piezoelectric shell formulation and, second, allows the use of strain–displacement equations, which exactly represent rigid-body motions of the shell in any convected curvilinear coordinate system. It is worth noting that the SaS are located inside each layer at Chebyshev polynomial nodes that leads to a uniform convergence of the SaS method. As a result, the SaS method can be applied efficiently to 3D exact solutions of electroelasticity for FG piezoelectric cross-ply and angle-ply shells with a specified accuracy by using a sufficient number of SaS.  相似文献

The study investigates the transient thermal performance of a constant area longitudinal fin made of a functionally graded material. Such a fin offers advantages that are not attainable with a traditional fin made of a homogeneous material. A numerical approach has been used to study the transient response of the fin with a step change in its base temperature. The fin is assumed to have an adiabatic tip. Three types of variations in the thermal conductivity with the longitudinal distance along the fin are considered: (a) linear, (b) quadratic, and (c) exponential. New analytical solutions for the steady state performance of the fin are derived in terms of the Bessel functions for cases (a) and (c) and in terms of the Legendre functions for case (b). These solutions provide a check on the accuracy of the transient numerical predictions for large times. The thermal performance of the fin is governed by the classical fin parameter, N c, and the fin thermal conductivity grading parameter, a. Results are presented for the transient temperature distribution, base heat flow, convective heat loss, the energy stored in the fin and the fin efficiency for representative values of N c and a. It is found that the transient, as well the steady state performance of the fin, is significantly affected by the functional grading of the fin material. The results presented are not only of fundamental interest but can also be used to design a functionally graded fin with the desirable steady and transient thermal characteristics.  相似文献

The present paper presents the three-dimensional magneto-thermo-elastic analysis of the functionally graded cylindrical shell immersed in applied thermal and magnetic fields under non-uniform internal pressure. The inhomogeneity of the shell is assumed to vary along the radial direction according to a power law function, whereas Poisson's ratio is supposed to be constant through the thickness. The existing equations in terms of the displacement components, temperature, and magnetic parameters are derived, and then the effective differential quadrature method(DQM) is used to acquire the analytical solution. Based on the DQM, the governing heat differential equations and edge boundary conditions are transformed into algebraic equations, and discretized in the series form. The effects of the gradient index and rapid temperature on the displacement, stress components, temperature, and induced magnetic field are graphically illustrated. The fast convergence of the method is demonstrated and compared with the results obtained by the finite element method(FEM).  相似文献

The present study focuses on the analysis of free vibrations of axisymmetric functionally graded hollow spheres. The material is assumed to be graded in radial di- rection with a simple power law. Matrix Frrbenious method of extended power series is employed to derive the analytical solutions for displacement, temperature, and stresses. The dispersion relations for the existence of various types of pos- sible modes of vibrations in the considered hollow sphere are derived in a compact form. In order to explore the character- istics of vibrations, the secular equations are further solved by using fixed point iteration numerical technique with the help of MATLAB software. The numerical results have been presented graphically for polymethyl methecrylate materials in respect of natural frequencies, frequency shift, inverse quality factor, displacement, temperature change, and radial stress.  相似文献

This paper deals with the derivation of a finite element model for the static analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates integrated with a layer of piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (PFRC) material. The layer of PFRC material acts as the distributed actuator of the FG plates. The Young’s modulus of the FG plate is assumed to vary exponentially along the thickness of the plate while the Poisson’s ratio is assumed to be constant over the domain of the plate. The finite element model has been verified with the exact solutions for both thick and thin plates. Emphasis has been placed on investigating the effect of variation of piezoelectric fiber angle in the PFRC layer on its actuating capability of the FG plates. The finite element solutions also revealed that the activated PFRC layer is more effective in controlling the deformations of the FG plates when the layer is attached to the surface of the FG plate with minimum stiffness than when it is attached to the surface of the same with maximum stiffness.  相似文献

Thermal buckling behavior of cylindrical shell made of functionally graded material(FGM) is studied. The material constituents are composed of ceramic and metal. The material properties across the shell thickness are assumed to be graded according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction rule of mixtures. Based on the Donnell shell theory, a system of dimensionless partial differential equations of buckling in terms of displacement components is derived. The method of separation of variables is used to transform the governing equations to ordinary differential equations(ODEs). A shooting method is used to search for the numerical solutions of the differential equations under two types of boundary conditions. Effects of the power law index, the dimensionless geometrical parameters, and the temperature ratio on the critical buckling temperature are discussed in detail.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of thermoelastic interactions in a functionally graded isotropic unbounded medium due to the presence of periodically varying heat sources in the context of the linear theory of generalized thermoelasticity without energy dissipation (TEWOED). The governing equations of generalized thermoelasticity without energy dissipation (GN model type II) for a functionally graded materials (FGM) (i.e. material with spatially varying material properties)are established. The governing equations are expressed in Laplace–Fourier double transform domain and solved in that domain. Now, the inversion of the Fourier transform is carried out by using residual calculus, where poles of the integrand is obtained numerically in complex domain by using Laguerre’s method and the inversion of Laplace transform is done numerically using a method based on Fourier series expansion technique. The numerical estimates of the displacement, temperature, stress and strain are obtained for a hypothetical material. The solution to the analogous problem for homogeneous isotropic material is obtained by taking nonhomogeneity parameter suitably. Finally the results obtained are presented graphically to show the effect of nonhomogeneity on displacement, temperature, stress and strain.  相似文献

A thermoelastic problem of a circular annulus made of functionally graded materials with an arbitrary gradient is investigated. Different from previous works, our analysis neither requires a special form of the gradient of material properties nor demands partitioning the entire structure into a multilayered homogeneous structure. Instead, we propose a new method for solving the thermoelastic problem of a functionally graded circular annulus by transforming it to a Fredholm integral equation. The distribution of thermal stresses and radial displacement can be obtained by solving the resulting equation. Illustrative examples are given to show the effects of varying gradients on the thermal stresses and radial displacement for given temperature changes at the inner and outer surfaces. The results indicate that the thermal stresses can be relaxed for specified gradients, which is beneficial to design an inhomogeneous annulus to maintain structural integrity.

A new multi-layered model for fracture analysis of functionally graded materials (FGMs) with arbitrarily varying elastic moduli under plane deformation has been developed. In this model, the FGM is divided into several sub-layers and in each sub-layer the shear modulus is assumed to be a linear function of the depth while the Poisson's ratio is assumed to be a constant. With this new model, an interface crack problem of a functionally graded coating bonded to a homogeneous half-plane under normal and shear loading is investigated. Employment of transfer matrix method and Fourier integral transform technique reduces the problem to a system of Cauchy singular integral equations which are solved numerically. Stress intensity factors of an interface crack are obtained for the cases of the shear modulus varying in an exponential manner and in a sinusoidal manner. Comparison of the present new model to other existing models shows that the new one is more efficient.  相似文献

A new model for approximate analysis of a functionally graded coating with arbitrary variation of properties has been developed. In this model, the coating is divided into several sublayers. In each sublayer the material properties vary in a linear manner along the thickness direction and the material properties are continuous at each subinterface. With this new model, the crack problem of a functionally graded coating bonded to a homogeneous half-plane under static antiplane shearing load is investigated. By using transfer matrix method and Fourier integral transform technique, the problem is reduced to the solution of a Cauchy singular integral equation. Stress intensity factors are calculated. Comparisons are made between the present model and other models. The results show some advantages of the present model.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) solutions for the static analysis of doubly curved functionally graded (FG) magneto-electro-elastic shells are presented by an asymptotic approach. In the present formulation, the twenty-nine basic equations are firstly reduced to ten differential equations in terms of ten primary variables of elastic, electric and magnetic fields. After performing through the mathematical manipulation of nondimensionalization, asymptotic expansion and successive integration, we finally obtain recurrent sets of two-dimensional (2D) governing equations for various order problems. These 2D governing equations are merely those derived in the classical shell theory (CST) based on the extended Love–Kirchhoffs' assumptions. Hence, the CST-type governing equations are derived as a first-order approximation to the 3D magneto-electro-elasticity. The leading-order solutions and higher-order corrections can be determined by treating the CST-type governing equations in a systematic and consistent way. The 3D solutions for the static analysis of doubly curved multilayered and FG magneto-electro-elastic shells are presented to demonstrate the performance of the present asymptotic formulation. The coupling magneto-electro-elastic effect on the structural behavior of the shells is studied.  相似文献
