We discuss the ground state phase transition between an antiferromagnet and a valence-bond solid in a two-dimensional spin-1/2 XY model with a four-spin interaction. This transition has been proposed as a candidate for a deconfined quantum-critical point. We analyze quantum Monte Carlo data in order to accurately characterize the transition. The central question that remains to be answered is whether the transition really is continuous, or whether it is actually weakly first-order. We present the current status of both ground state and finite-temperature calculations. Based on the results, we discuss possible scenarios for the transition, none of which is consistent with deconfined quantum-criticality. However, we argue that a deconfined quantum-critical point may be located nearby in an extended parameter space. We also discuss the staggered Ising phase obtaining in the limit of strong four-spin coupling.  相似文献

In this paper we study the quantum phase transition in a three-dimensional XY model with single-ion anisotropy D and spin S=1. The low D phase is studied using the self consistent harmonic approximation, and the large D phase using the bond operator formalism. We calculate the critical value of the anisotropy parameter where a transition occurs from the large-D phase to the Néel phase. We present the behavior of the energy gap, in the large-D phase, as a function of the temperature. In the large D region, a longitudinal magnetic field induces a phase transition from the singlet to the antiferromagnetic state, and then from the AFM one to the paramagnetic state.  相似文献

Generally, in literature, easy-axis single ion anisotropy and easy-axis exchange anisotropy was treated in indistinct way. In this work we propose to perform a comparative study of the effects of these two easy-axis anisotropies on the behavior of the magnetization and the critical temperature (Tc)(Tc) in the 2D classical Heisenberg antiferromagnetic model. In order to study the low-temperature thermodynamics of this model, we should consider the contribution of anisotropic spin waves, using a self-consistent harmonic approximation (SCHA) theory. We compare the predictions of SCHA with numerical simulations on L×LL×L square lattices using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, which include effects due to all thermodynamically allowed excitations. Our SCHA results are in good agreement with our MC simulations results and have shown that the strong KK limit gives two different Ising-like behavior. In the exchange anisotropic case, the dependence of TcTc on anisotropic parameter KK becomes linear and in the single-ion anisotropic case, TcTc becomes independent of KK. Also, using MC simulations and finite size scaling, we show that the critical exponents in the two anisotropic case are compatible with the 2D Ising values α=0.125α=0.125 and γ=1.75γ=1.75.  相似文献

In this paper we study the dynamics of the two-dimensional XY model with single-ion anisotropy, and spin S = 1, in the large D phase, and low temperatures, using the bond operator formalism. The in-plane structure factor is a delta function. The out of plane shows a three peak structure, which merges in a single peak at the Brillouin zone boundary. We analyze also spin currents generated by a magnetic field gradient. The spin conductivity is calculated, at finite temperature, using the Kubo formula. The model shows unconventional ballistic spin transport at finite temperature. The computed spin conductivity exhibits a nonzero Drude weight at finite temperature. For ω< 2m, where m is the energy gap, the spin conductivity is described solely by the Drude weight. There is a regular contribution to the spin conductivity for ω> 2m, which persist in the zero temperature limit. The conductivity at the critical point, and for small frequencies, is (gμB)2/ħ times a universal scaling function of ħω/kB T.  相似文献

Based on the Bethe-Ansatz solution of the one-dimensional Heisenberg model under twist boundary conditions, we study the spectra of the persistent current carried by the low-lying excited states. It is shown that though the energy spectra of spin-singlet and spin-triplet excitations are degenerate, their persistent current spectra are quite different.  相似文献

The ground state properties of S =2 ferromagnets with isotropic Heisenberg exchange (J) and single-ion cubic anisotropy (D) are studied. The perturbation theory for is used to find an effective Hamiltonian up to the fourth order for 1, 2 and 3 dimensions. It is shown that in opposition to the MFA prediction there is the quadrupolar long range order at T = 0 in the non-magnetic state of the system without a quadrupolar type of interaction. The effect is a consequence of the quantum nature of the model. Received: 19 February 1998 / Accepted: 17 March 1998  相似文献

The quantum spherical XY model with orthorhombic anisotropy is investigated. It is shown that in contradiction with the results of reference [#!9!#], the long-range magnetic order is stabilized in two dimensions. Both analytical and numerical results are presented. The incorrect results of the work [9] are explained to be the result of improper choice of quantization axis. The model of diamagnetic phase transition in beryllium which takes into account the quasi 2-dimensional shape of the Fermi surface of beryllium is proposed. It explains correctly the recent experimental data on observation of non-homogeneous phase in beryllium at the conditions of strong dHvA effect when the strong correlation of electron gas results in instability of homogeneous phase and formation of Condon domain structure.  相似文献

A field-induced magnetic transition is observed in quasi-one-dimensional spin system PbCo2V 2O8 by means of magnetic and heat capacity measurements. Our experimental results clearly show that an antiferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition occurs in PbCo2V 2O8, when a magnetic field larger than 4 T is applied. Such a field-induced magnetic transition is quite similar to that observed in isostructural BaCo2V 2O8 or SrCo2V 2O8. Therefore, we suggest that this may be a universal feature in quasi-one-dimensional spin-3 /2 (Co2+) chain systems, ACo2V 2O8.  相似文献

The magnetic relaxation of a spin-1 Ising model with bilinear and biquadratic interactions is formulated within the framework of statistical equilibrium theory and the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. Using a molecular-field expression for the magnetic Gibbs energy, the magnetic Gibbs energy produced in the irreversible process is calculated and time derivatives of the dipolar and quadrupolar order parameters are treated as fluxes conjugate to their appropriate generalized forces in the sense of Onsager theory. The kinetic equations are obtained by introducing kinetic coefficients that satisfy the Onsager relation. By solving these equations an expression is derived for the dynamic or complex magnetic susceptibility. From the real and imaginary parts of this expression, magnetic dispersion and absorption factor are calculated and analyzed near the second-order phase transition.  相似文献

The dynamics of the one-dimensional random transverse Ising model with both nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) interactions is studied in the high-temperature limit by the method of recurrence relations. Both the time-dependent transverse correlation function and the corresponding spectral density are calculated for two typical disordered states. We find that for the case of bimodal disorder the dynamics of the system undergoes a crossover from a collective-mode behavior to a central-peak one and for the case of Gaussian disorder the dynamics is complex. For both cases, it is found that the central-peak behavior becomes more obvious and the collective-mode behavior becomes weaker as Ki increase, especially when Ki>Ji/2 (Ji and Ki are the exchange couplings of the NN and NNN interactions, respectively). However, the effects are small when the NNN interactions are weak (Ki<Ji/2).  相似文献

We study quantum communication through an anisotropic Heisenberg XY chain in a transverse magnetic field. We find that for some time t and anisotropy parameter γ, one can transfer a state with a relatively high fidelity. In the strong-field regime, the anisotropy does not significantly affect the fidelity while in the weak-field regime the affect is quite pronounced. The most interesting case is the intermediate regime where the oscillation of the fidelity with time is low and the high-fidelity peaks are relatively broad. This would, in principle, allow for quantum communication in realistic circumstances. Moreover, we calculate the purity, or tangle, as a measure of the entanglement between one spin and all the other spins in the chain and find that the stronger the anisotropy and exchange interaction, the more entanglement will be generated for a given time.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of the ternary system ABC consisting of spins , S=1, and are investigated on the Bethe lattice by using the exact recursion relations. We consider both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. The exact expressions for magnetizations and magnetic susceptibilities are found, and thermal behaviors of magnetizations and susceptibilities are studied. We construct the phase diagrams and find that the system exhibits one, two or even three compensation temperatures depending on the values of the interaction parameters in the Hamiltonian. Moreover, the system undergoes a second-order phase transition for the coordination number q?3 and a second- and first-order phase transitions for q>3; hence the system gives a tricritical point. The system also exhibits the reentrant behaviors.  相似文献

The phase diagrams of the spin-1 transverse Ising model with the presence of a crystal field is investigated by using an effective-field theory (EFT). We give a method to calculate the Gibbs free energy numerically at finite temperature within the EFT. The first-order transition lines are obtained by comparing the Gibbs free energy. The phase diagrams and the Gibbs free energy are also compared with those given using the mean-field theory (MFT).  相似文献

By means of the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method, the static spin structure factors and the magnetization plateaus of the trimerized Heisenberg ferromagnet-ferromagnet-antiferromagnet and antiferromagnet-antiferromagnet-ferromagnet spin chains in the presence of a magnetic field are elaborately studied. It is found that in the plateau states, the static structure factor with three peaks does not vary with the external magnetic field as well as the exchange couplings; the spin correlation function behaves as a perfect sequence and has a simple relation with the magnetization per site. An approximate wave function for the plateau states is proposed, and a picture based on the valence-bond-solid states is presented in order to understand the origin and the total number of the magnetization plateaus, which are shown to be in agreement with the DMRG results.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the entanglement of a two-spin system with Heisenberg exchange interaction in a quantized field. The pairwise entanglement between bipartite subsystems is obtained. It is shown that the entanglement exhibits a quantum phase transition due to the variation of exchang coupling. Phase diagrams are obtained explicitly. The analogy of the quantum phase transition compared to the case under a classical field are addressed.  相似文献

The one-dimensional spin 1 bilinear-biquadratic model is re-expressed in a symmetrically frustrated SU(3) model, which facilitates us to introduce a fermionic representation and related bond-operator mean-field theory. By analyzing the gap and the static spin susceptibility, we shows that this treatment can easily capture the commensurate and incommensurate Haldane gap phases.  相似文献

In order to understand the properties of Mott insulators with strong ground state orbital fluctuations, we study the zero temperature properties of the SU(4) spin-orbital model on a square lattice. Exact diagonalizations of finite clusters suggest that the ground state is disordered with a singlet-multiplet gap and possibly low-lying SU(4) singlets in the gap. An interpretation in terms of plaquette SU(4) singlets is proposed. The implications for LiNiO2 are discussed. Received 6 July 2000  相似文献

The spectral properties of Kitaev’s honeycomb lattice model are investigated both analytically and numerically with the focus on the non-abelian phase of the model. After summarizing the fermionization technique which maps spins into free Majorana fermions, we evaluate the spectrum of sparse vortex configurations and derive the interaction between two vortices as a function of their separation. We consider the effect vortices can have on the fermionic spectrum as well as on the phase transition between the abelian and non-abelian phases. We explicitly demonstrate the 2n-fold ground state degeneracy in the presence of 2n well separated vortices and the lifting of the degeneracy due to their short-range interactions. The calculations are performed on an infinite lattice. In addition to the analytic treatment, a numerical study of finite size systems is performed which is in exact agreement with the theoretical considerations. The general spectral properties of the non-abelian phase are considered for various finite toroidal systems.  相似文献
