We provide proper mapping-characterizations of some embedding-like properties weaker than -embedding. For instance, we show that a subset A of a space X is -embedded in X if and only if for every continuous map g: AY into a Banach space Y of weight w(Y) ⩽ λ, there exists a continuous set-valued mapping φ of X into the nonempty compact subsets of Y such that g is a selection for φA (i.e., g(x) ∈ φ(x) for every xA). On the other hand, we show that a subset A is C*-embedded in X if and only if for every continuous set-valued mapping φ of X into the non-empty compact subsets of a Banach space Y, every continuous selection g: AY for φA is continuously extendable to the whole of X. Combining both results we get the well-known mapping-characterization of -embedding which makes more transparent the relation ‘’. Other weak components of -embedding are described in terms of expansions and selections, possible applications are demonstrated as well.  相似文献

A biBanach space is an asymmetric normed linear space (X,‖·‖) such that the normed linear space (X,‖·‖s) is a Banach space, where ‖xs= max {‖x‖,‖-x‖} for all xX. We prove that each asymmetric normed linear space (X,‖·‖) is isometrically isomorphic to a dense subspace of a biBanach space (Y,‖·‖Y). Furthermore the space (Y,‖·‖Y) is unique (up to isometric isomorphism). This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Let [A, a] be a normed operator ideal. We say that [A, a] is boundedly weak*-closed if the following property holds: for all Banach spaces X and Y, if T: XY** is an operator such that there exists a bounded net (T i ) iI in A(X, Y) satisfying lim i y*, T i x y*〉 for every xX and y* ∈ Y*, then T belongs to A(X, Y**). Our main result proves that, when [A, a] is a normed operator ideal with that property, A(X, Y) is complemented in its bidual if and only if there exists a continuous projection from Y** onto Y, regardless of the Banach space X. We also have proved that maximal normed operator ideals are boundedly weak*-closed but, in general, both concepts are different.   相似文献

Let X, Y be Banach spaces and M be a linear subspace in X × Y = {{x, y}|x ∈ X, y ∈ Y }. We may view M as a multi-valued linear operator from X to Y by taking M (x) = {y|{x, y} ∈ M }. In this paper, we give several criteria for a single-valued operator from Y to X to be the metric generalized inverse of the multi-valued linear operator M . The principal tool in this paper is also the generalized orthogonal decomposition theorem in Banach spaces.  相似文献

Two invertible dynamical systems (X, gA, μ, T) and (Y, ℬ, ν, S), where X, Y are metrizable spaces and T, S are homeomorphisms on X and Y, are said to be finitarily orbit equivalent if there exists an invertible measure preserving mapping ϕ from a subset X 0 of X of full measure to a subset Y 0 of Y of full measure such that ϕ|x 0 is continuous in the relative topology on X 0, ϕ −1|Y 0 is continuous in the relative topology on Y 0 and ϕ(Orb T (x)) = Orb (x) for μ-a.e. xX. For topological spaces X and Y and a metric space Z, we introduce a new class N( X ×YZ ) \mathcal{N}\left( {X \times Y,\,Z} \right) of mappings f: X × YZ containing all horizontally quasicontinuous mappings continuous with respect to the second variable. It is shown that, for each mapping f from this class and any countable-type set B in Y, the set C B (f) of all points x from X such that f is jointly continuous at any point of the set {x} × B is residual in X: We also prove that if X is a Baire space, Y is a metrizable compact set, Z is a metric space, and f ? N( X ×YZ ) f \in \mathcal{N}\left( {X \times Y,\,Z} \right) , then, for any ε > 0, the projection of the set D ε (f) of all points pX × Y at which the oscillation ω f (p) ≥ ε onto X is a closed set nowhere dense in X.  相似文献

Let X and Y be Banach spaces. A set (the space of all weakly compact operators from X into Y) is weakly equicompact if, for every bounded sequence (x n) in X, there exists a subsequence (x k(n)) so that (Txk(n)) is uniformly weakly convergent for TM. In this paper, the notion of weakly equicompact set is used to obtain characterizations of spaces X such that X ↩̸ ℓ1, of spaces X such that B X* is weak* sequentially compact and also to obtain several results concerning to the weak operator and the strong operator topologies. As another application of weak equicompactness, we conclude a characterization of relatively compact sets in when this space is endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on the class of all weakly null sequences. Finally, we show that similar arguments can be applied to the study of uniformly completely continuous sets. Received: 5 July 2006  相似文献

Let X be a normed space that satisfies the Johnson–Lindenstrauss lemma (J–L lemma, in short) in the sense that for any integer n and any x 1,…,x n X, there exists a linear mapping L:XF, where FX is a linear subspace of dimension O(log n), such that ‖x i x j ‖≤‖L(x i )−L(x j )‖≤O(1)⋅‖x i x j ‖ for all i,j∈{1,…,n}. We show that this implies that X is almost Euclidean in the following sense: Every n-dimensional subspace of X embeds into Hilbert space with distortion 22O(log*n)2^{2^{O(\log^{*}n)}} . On the other hand, we show that there exists a normed space Y which satisfies the J–L lemma, but for every n, there exists an n-dimensional subspace E n Y whose Euclidean distortion is at least 2Ω(α(n)), where α is the inverse Ackermann function.  相似文献

We introduce a lower semicontinuous analog, L (X), of the well-studied space of upper semicontinuous set-valued maps with nonempty compact interval images. Because the elements of L (X) contain continuous selections, the space C(X) of real-valued continuous functions on X can be used to establish properties of L (X), such as the two interrelated main theorems. The first of these theorems, the Extension Theorem, is proved in this Part I. The Extension Theorem says that for binormal spaces X and Y, every bimonotone homeomorphism between C(X) and C(Y) can be extended to an ordered homeomorphism between L (X) and L (Y). The second main theorem, the Factorization Theorem, is proved in Part II. The Factorization Theorem says that for binormal spaces X and Y, every ordered homeomorphism between L (X) and L (Y) can be characterized by a unique factorization.  相似文献

Let T = (T(t))t≥0 be a bounded C-regularized semigroup generated by A on a Banach space X and R(C) be dense in X. We show that if there is a dense subspace Y of X such that for every x ∈ Y, σu(A, Cx), the set of all points λ ∈ iR to which (λ - A)^-1 Cx can not be extended holomorphically, is at most countable and σr(A) N iR = Ф, then T is stable. A stability result for the case of R(C) being non-dense is also given. Our results generalize the work on the stability of strongly continuous senfigroups.  相似文献

Theω′-topology on the spaceL(X, Y) of bounded linear operators from the Banach spaceX into the Banach spaceY is discussed in [10]. Let ℒw' (X, Y) denote the space of allT∈L(X, Y) for which there exists a sequence of compact linear operators (T n)⊂K(X, Y) such thatT=ω′−limnTn and let . We show that is a Banach ideal of operators and that the continuous dual spaceK(X, Y)* is complemented in . This results in necessary and sufficient conditions forK(X, Y) to be reflexive, whereby the spacesX andY need not satisfy the approximation property. In this paper we initiate a quantitative study of strong proximinality. We define a quantity ϵ(x, t) which we call as modulus of strong proximinality and show that the metric projection onto a strongly proximinal subspace Y of a Banach space X is continuous at x if and only if ϵ(x, t) is continuous at x whenever t > 0. The best possible estimate of ϵ(x, t) characterizes spaces with 1 \frac121 \frac{1}{2} ball property. Estimates of ϵ(x, t) are obtained for subspaces of uniformly convex spaces and of strongly proximinal subspaces of finite codimension in C(K).  相似文献

In 1986, Tong [13] proved that a function f : (X,τ)→(Y,φ) is continuous if and only if it is α-continuous and A-continuous. We extend this decomposition of continuity in terms of ideals. First, we introduce the notions of regular-I-closed sets, A I-sets and A I -continuous functions in ideal topological spaces and investigate their properties. Then, we show that a function f : (X,τ,I)→(Y, φ) is continuous if and only if it is α-I-continuous and A I-continuous. Summary.  We prove that the derivative of a differentiable family X t (a) of continuous martingales in a manifold M is a martingale in the tangent space for the complete lift of the connection in M, provided that the derivative is bicontinuous in t and a. We consider a filtered probability space (Ω,(ℱ t )0≤ t ≤1, ℙ) such that all the real martingales have a continuous version, and a manifold M endowed with an analytic connection and such that the complexification of M has strong convex geometry. We prove that, given an analytic family aL(a) of random variable with values in M and such that L(0)≡x 0M, there exists an analytic family aX(a) of continuous martingales such that X 1(a)=L(a). For this, we investigate the convexity of the tangent spaces T ( n ) M, and we prove that any continuous martingale in any manifold can be uniformly approximated by a discrete martingale up to a stopping time T such that ℙ(T<1) is arbitrarily small. We use this construction of families of martingales in complex analytic manifolds to prove that every ℱ1-measurable random variable with values in a compact convex set V with convex geometry in a manifold with a C 1 connection is reachable by a V-valued martingale. A set-valued mapping F from a topological space X to a topological space Y is called a cusco map if F is upper semicontinuous and F(x) is a nonempty, compact and connected subset of Y for each xX. We denote by L(X), the space of all subsets F of X × ℝ such that F is the graph of a cusco map from the space X to the real line ℝ. In this paper, we study topological properties of L(X) endowed with the Vietoris topology. Let (X1) and (Y2) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X′ and Y′, respectively, L(X,Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K(X,Y) be the space of all compact operators of L(X,Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K(X,Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K(X,Y); that is, if the sequence space λ has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each λ-multiplier WOT-convergent series ∑iTi in K(X,Y) must be λ-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T :(X1)→(λβ,σ(λβ,λ)) is compact. It follows from this result that the converse of Kalton's Orlicz–Pettis theorem is also true.  相似文献
