The cationic emulsion polymerization of styrene in a batch reactor using different concentrations of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) and hexadecyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide (HDTAB) as cationic surfactants, and 2,2′-azobisisobutyramidine dihydrochloride (AIBA), and 2,2′-azobis (N,N′-dimethyleneisobutyramidine) dihydrochloride (ADIBA) as cationic initiators has been studied. In the preliminary study, the best conditions to obtain stable cationic latexes at high conversions were identified. When the surfactant concentration was above its cmc, latexes with high conversions were achieved for the two cationic surfactants studied (DTAB and HDTAB). Cationic latexes with less coagulum were obtained using ADIBA as cationic initiator due to its superior resistance to hydrolysis. AIBA is hydrolyzed to amide at basic pHs and in this way, the concentration of radicals formed in the aqueous phase decreases. On the other hand, a stronger effect of the particle size on the kinetics of the cationic emulsion polymerization of styrene using HDTAB as cationic surfactant was observed than using DTAB. Furthermore, different kinetic behaviors were observed with the two cationic initiators (ADIBA and AIBA) using HDTAB as cationic surfactant, due to the lower stabilizing effect of the cationic radicals provided by AIBA.  相似文献

表面活性剂与有机小分子作用不仅能提高表面活性剂的聚集能力,还能提高小分子的溶解度、稳定性等应用性能,因此研究二者之间的相互作用机理对于促进表面活性剂的发展和实际应用具有重要意义。本工作提出了一种利用功能有机小分子调控表面活性剂聚集行为,进而提高不稳定小分子自身稳定性的新策略。利用表面张力、紫外可见吸收光谱、荧光光谱、动态光散射、等温滴定量热和核磁共振技术研究了在p H为7.0时,叶酸分别与十二烷基硫酸钠(SDS)、十二烷基三甲基溴化铵(DTAB)、季铵盐Gemini 12-6-12和季铵盐线性三聚12-3-12-3-12四种表面活性剂之间的相互作用及其导致的叶酸光氧化降解性能的变化,结果表明,阴离子表面活性剂SDS抑制叶酸光氧化降解的效率较低,而阳离子表面活性剂都能够显著抑制叶酸的光氧化降解,且随着表面活性剂寡聚度的增加,抑制效果增强,所需表面活性剂的浓度显著降低,寡聚表面活性剂12-3-12-3-12的抑制效率高达96%。  相似文献

The influence of water pH and cationic surfactant content on the interfacial properties and stability of an Algerian bitumen aqueous emulsion were investigated. While the stability was quantified by both the test-bottle method and size distribution measurements, the interfacial properties of the water-bitumen interface were assessed using interfacial tension measurements. Optical microscopy was also used to visualise the dispersed water droplets in the oil phase. The results showed that addition of the cationic surfactant at a concentration of 25 mmol L?1 in acidic water (pH 2) improves the bitumen emulsion stability and effectively decreases the interfacial tension.  相似文献

Cationic latexes were prepared through emulsion copolymerization of styrene(St) and butyl acrylate(BA) with a cationic surfactant,cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB).Latex properties,including particle size,size distribution,ζpotential,surface tension and monomer conversion,were determined for latexes prepared with different CTAB amounts. Evolution of these properties during emulsion polymerization was followed in order to understand the mechanism of the particles formation.Results showed that both particle size andζpotential were function of polymerization time and latex solids.Parallel emulsion polymerizations with cationic,anionic charged initiator and charge-free initiators were also carried out,the latex properties were determined at different polymerization time.All these results were attentively interpreted based on the mechanisms of emulsion polymerization,surfactant adsorption and latex particle stabilization.  相似文献

A series of oxidized di(indolyl)arylmethanes (DIAM) with polyaromatic signaling moieties have been designed for monitoring local pH at the interfacial region of surfactant aggregates, such as micelles and vesicles. The oxidized DIAMs show changes in solution color from red to yellow when incorporated in cationic surfactants (at pH 7.4) and yellow to reddish pink when exposed to negatively-charged surfactants (at pH 5.0). The changes in surface charge can influence the interfacial pH (distinct from bulk pH of the medium) of the surfactant aggregates. The mechanistic studies indicate that the red-shifted absorption maxima observed in the presence of anionic amphiphiles (acidic local pH) originated from the protonated species. On the contrary, maxima in the blue region, triggered by positively charged amphiphiles (basic local pH), is attributed to the zwitterionic species. Such prototropic equilibrium affects charge transfer states of the molecules along with their self-assembly properties. Thus, it is evident that probes can predict as well as quantify the local pH change using the pseudophase ion exchange formalism. Also, the probes can detect the presence of anionic amphiphiles even when bound to phospholipid membranes.  相似文献

用旋转滴法测定了正负离子混合表面活性剂形成的双水相界面张力, 研究了双水相界面张力与表面活性剂的分子结构、正负离子表面活性剂的摩尔比、总浓度、外加无机盐及温度的关系. 结果表明, 双水相界面张力在一定正、负离子表面活性剂的摩尔比时属于超低界面张力范围. 观察到三种界面张力曲线类型, 第一类为摩尔比1:1 的两边的两条曲线, 界面张力随过剩表面活性剂组分的比例增加而降低; 第二类为一条跨过摩尔比1:1的马鞍型曲线; 第三类为位于摩尔比1:1的一边的一条马鞍型曲线. 界面张力曲线的类型主要取决于表面活性剂的分子结构, 包括亲水基类型、疏水链长度及对称性.  相似文献

通过阴阳离子表面活性剂复配,在实际油水体系中获得了超低界面张力.通过在阴离子表面活性剂分子结构中加入乙氧基(EO)链段,以及采用阴阳离子加非离子型表面活性剂的三组分策略,有效解决了混合表面活性剂在水溶液中溶解度问题.进而研究了阳离子表面活性剂结构、非离子表面活性剂结构、三者组分配比、表面活性剂总浓度等因素对油水界面张力的影响,从而在胜利油田多个实际油水体系中获得了较大比例范围和较低浓度区域的油水超低界面张力,部分体系甚至达到了10-4 mN·m-1.由于阴阳离子表面活性剂间强烈的静电吸引作用,相关体系具有很好的抗吸附能力.经过石英砂48 h吸附后,体系仍然具有很好的超低界面张力.  相似文献

An in‐depth study on the kinetics of the cationic emulsion polymerization of styrene in a batch reactor is presented. This study is focused on the effect of the amount of the cationic surfactant dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), using two different cationic initiators: 2,2′‐azobisisobutyramidine dihydrochloride (AIBA), 2,2′‐azobis (N,N′‐dimethyleneisobutyramidine) dihydrochloride (ADIBA), on kinetics and colloidal features such as conversion, number of particles, number average of radicals per particle, mean particle diameter, and particle size distribution (PSD) of the polystyrene latices obtained by emulsion polymerization in a batch reactor. Furthermore, the results of the cationic emulsion polymerization were compared with its homologous anionic case. Using DTAB as cationic surfactant an expected increase in the total rate of polymerization was observed when the DTAB concentration increased. However, the total number of particles increased much more than in the anionic system. On the other hand, a dependence on the particle size of the rate of polymerization per particle together with the average number of radicals per particle was found. These differences between cationic and anionic emulsion polymerizations were explained taking into account the limited particle coagulation observed with cationic surfactants, and the high rate of radical formation of cationic initiators. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, the interfacial tension between crude oil and solution of cationic gemini surfactant has been studied. It is found that the interfacial tension between crude oil and water is closely related to the nature of a gemini surfactant and oil; meanwhile, in the case without additives, some gemini surfactants or mixtures of some gemini surfactants can reduce the interfacial tension between crude oil and water to an ultralow value.  相似文献

An emulsion polymerization of styrene in the presence of an amphoteric surfactant; N,N-dimethyl-n-laurylbetaine (LNB) was carried out at pH 7.0. The polymerization rate and the concentration of the latex particle were proportional to the LNB concentration of 0.6 power. The latex particle sizes became smaller with increasing concentrations of LNB. The molecular weights of polystyrene latices increased with the concentration of LNB. The zeta-potentials of latex particles were significantly dependent on the pH, and showed the existence of an isoelectric point.  相似文献

The stability and curvature of emulsions of H2O and CO2 are reported and analyzed in terms of measurements of interfacial tension versus formulation variables, including salinity, CO2 density, temperature and pH. Among the surfactants studied are, quaternary ammonium cationic ones with perfluoropolyether tails, block copolymer ionomers and a poly (hydroxyethyl methacrylate) with polydimethylsiloxane tails, and a nonionic ethylene oxide surfactant with a fluoroalkane tail. The interfacial tension measurements were made at surfactant concentrations from 0.05 to 1.0 wt% with a variable-volume pendant drop tensiometer up to 345 bar and 363°K. As a formulation variable was varied, the system reached a balanced state characterized by a minimum in interfacial tension, a loss in emulsion stability and in some cases an inversion from a W/C to C/W emulsion. Here the Marangoni-Gibbs stabilization weakens, and also it becomes easy to bend and rupture the surfactant monolayer, causing coalescence. Except in the case of the nonionic fluorinated surfactant C8F17—SO2NEt-(CH2CH2O)12–14CH3, the crossover from the CO2-continuous (W/C) to the H2O-continuous (C/W) emulsion occurred abruptly due to clouding of the surfactant out of the CO2 phase. For PFPE-TMAA, the plot of γ versus surfactant concentration revealed both pre-micellar aggregates and a critical micro emulsion, each of which was dependent on salinity.  相似文献

The ionic liquid 1‐n‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium heptachlorodiferrate (BMI.Fe2Cl7) is efficiently used as catalyst in the cationic emulsion polymerization of styrene. The effect of different reaction temperatures, surfactant, and ionic liquid concentrations on polymer properties as molecular weight distribution and particle size is evaluated. High weight average molecular weights, above 1000 kDa, are achieved at 70% of conversion in 100 nm polystyrene particles formed mainly by micellar nucleation. Particle sizes and molecular weights increase with the decrease of the amount of surfactant. Even at low concentrations, BMI.Fe2Cl7/styrene molar ratio equal to 1/1000, the ionic liquid proves to be efficient for the emulsion polymerization of styrene, and lower ionic liquid concentrations lead to the formation of longer polymer chains.  相似文献

Amino acid-derived surfactants have increasingly become a viable biofriendly alternative to petrochemically based amphiphiles as speciality surfactants. Herein, the Krafft temperatures and critical micelle concentrations (cmc) of three series of novel amino acid-derived surfactants have been determined by differential scanning microcalorimetry and surface tension measurements, respectively. The compounds comprise cationic molecules based on serine and tyrosine headgroups and anionic ones based on 4-hydroxyproline headgroups, with varying chain lengths. A linear dependence of the logarithm of cmc on chain length is found for all series, and in comparison to conventional ionic surfactants of equal chain length, the new amphiphiles present lower cmc and lower surface tension at the cmc. These observations highlight their enhanced interfacial performance. For the 18-carbon serine-derived surfactant the effects of counterion change and of the presence of a cis-double bond in the alkyl chain have also been investigated. The overall results are discussed in terms of headgroup and alkyl chain effects on micellization, in the light of available data for conventional surfactants and other types of amino acid-based amphiphiles reported in the literature.  相似文献

Hemiesters and hemiamides of maleic acid with different chain lengths of the hydrophobic alkyl group (R = C8H17, C10H21, C12H25, C16H33) have been synthesized and used as surfactants in the emulsion polymerization of styrene and butyl acrylate. The same polymerization experiments were also carried out using nonreactive surfactants with an analogous succinic structure. The chemical structure of the surfactants was confirmed by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance. The melting point and critical micelle concentration of the reactive surfactants described herein were measured. All of the surfactants studied provided good stability of styrene/butyl acrylate latexes, when compared with a reference latex of a styrene/butyl acrylate copolymer prepared with a surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate. The amount of surfactant grafted onto the particles of the final latex was estimated by conductimetric titration. Between 33 and 68% of surfactant used in emulsion polymerization was found on the surface of latex particles. 利用座滴法研究了支链化阳离子表面活性剂十六烷基羟丙基氯化铵(C16GPC)和两性离子表面活性剂十六烷基羧酸甜菜碱(C16GPB)在聚四氟乙烯(PTFE)表面上的吸附机制和润湿性质, 考察了表面活性剂浓度对表面张力、接触角、粘附张力、固液界面张力和粘附功的影响趋势. 研究发现, 低浓度条件下, 表面活性剂疏水支链的多个亚甲基基团与PTFE表面发生相互作用, 分子以平躺的方式吸附到固体界面; 支链化表面活性剂形成胶束的阻碍较大, 浓度大于临界胶束浓度(cmc)时, C16GPC和C16GPB分子在固液界面上继续吸附, 与PTFE作用的亚甲基基团减少, 分子逐渐直立, 固液界面自由能(γsl)明显降低. 对于支链化的阳离子和甜菜碱分子, 接触角均在浓度高于cmc后大幅度降低.  相似文献

It is well known that narrower particle size distributions are obtained when Aerosol MA80 is used as surfactant in emulsion polymerization compared with other surfactants. Some researchers have published hypotheses to explain this characteristic of MA80; however, it is the opinion of the authors that there are other factors that must be taken into account. This work discusses, with emphasis on the amplitude of the PSD, the effect of the type and initial concentration of surfactant (SDS and MA80) on kinetic aspects of emulsion polymerization of styrene. Similarities and differences between the polymerizations effected with the surfactants under study are discussed in terms of the physicochemical behavior of the surfactants.  相似文献

A change of oil/water interfacial tension in the presence of cationic or anionic surfactants in an organic phase was observed due to the addition of charged fine solids in the aqueous phase. The charged fine solids in the aqueous phase adsorb surfactants diffused from the oil phase, thereby causing an increase in the bulk equilibrium surfactant concentration in the aqueous phase, governed by the Stern-Grahame equation. Consequently, surfactant adsorption at the oil-water interface increases, which was demonstrated from the measured reduction of the oil-water interfacial tension. The increased surfactant partition in the aqueous phase in the presence of the charged particles was confirmed by the measured decrease in the surface tension for the collected aqueous solution after solids removal, as compared with the cases without solids addition.  相似文献

A series of anionic Gemini surfactants with the same structure except for the spacer and side chain length of the alkylbenzene sulfonate were synthesized based on dodecyl benzene and toluene. The structures of the compounds were confirmed by infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and elemental analyses. The effect of spacer and side chain length on the interfacial tension of Gemini surfactant solution was investigated by comparison of the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of the surfactants in aqueous solution using the drop volume method, and the surface tension at the cmc (γcmc). The Gemini surfactant with the best properties was used as emulsifier in emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate, and its foam stability was also determined.  相似文献

The review is devoted to the analysis of the effect of the addition of various surfactants on the composition, structure, and the properties of the interfacial adsorption layers (IALs) formed at equilibrium in the aqueous gelatin solution–hydrocarbon system. Associates of variable compositions that are determined by the component ratio and the concentration of added surfactant are formed due to the interaction between gelatin and surfactant. The formation of associates is equivalent to the modification of gelatin. The properties of the IALs of modified gelatins are discussed on the basis of our own results and published data on the interfacial tension, the mass accumulation of surface-active components at the interfaces during the IAL formation, the IAL rheological properties and the stability of emulsion films varied with the conditions of IAL formation (the nature of low-molecular-weight surfactant, component concentrations, pH of aqueous phase, and temperature). It was concluded that modified gelatins can be considered as new surfactants governing the dynamics of the formation and fracture mechanism of the IALs and the stability of emulsion films. The properties of the IALs of modified gelatins are compared with those of IALs formed by gelatin and low-molecular-weight surfactants under the conditions when associates are formed directly at the interface due to the use of oil-soluble surfactants.  相似文献

There is evidence in the literature that the rates of emulsion polymerization increase by a large factor as the alkyl chain length increases for a homologous series of surfactants. However, the area occupied by a surfactant molecule in a saturated monolayer at the polystryene/water interface is independent of chain length for alkyl sulfates so that, on the basis of Gardon's theory, equal rates of polymerization would be expected when equal concentrations of surfactants are used. There is a large increase in the number of polymer latex particles formed and in the rate of emulsion polymerization as the surfactant concentration is increased through the critical micelle concentration; this accounts for the large increases reported, because the lower members of the homologous series are below their critical micelle concentrations in most of the published studies. When a common concentration is chosen that is above the critical micelle concentration even for the lowest member of the series, only a relatively small increase in latex particle number and rate of emulsion polymerization with alkyl chain length of the surfactant is observed. This is attributable to an increase in the concentration of surfactant micelles. Good agreement with Gardon's theory is obtained when the concentration of micellar surfactant is used instead of the total surfactant concentration.  相似文献
