The design of a pressurized capillary rheometer operating at prescribed temperature is described to measure the viscosity of magnetic fluids (MFs) containing Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). The equipment constant of the rheometer was obtained using liquids with predetermined viscosities. Experimentally measured viscosities were used to evaluate different equations for suspension viscosities. Deviation of measured suspension viscosities from the Einstein equation was found to be basically due to the influence of spatial distribution and aggregation of Fe3O4 MNPs. By taking account of the coating layer on MNPs and the aggregation of MNPs in MFs, a modified Einstein equation was proposed to fit the experimental data. Moreover, the influence of external magnetic field on viscosity was also taken into account. Viscosities thus predicted are in good agreement with experimental data. Temperature effect on suspension viscosity was shown experimentally to be due to the shear-thinning behavior of the MFs.  相似文献

The flow of high solids content suspensions and coating colors through the deformable gap of counter-rotating rolls at high speed was investigated. Measurements of nip pressure profiles in a laboratory film coater were conducted and flow visualization experiments downstream the nip were carried out. A high-speed video system allowed showing the formation, elongation and break up of filaments that yield the misting droplets. The role of rheology on misting was also investigated using shear and extensional data. Results show that misting, mainly generated by film splitting, is reduced when the extensional viscosity of the color is larger.  相似文献

The flow field at the tip region of a scaled DHC Beaver aircraft propeller, running at transonic speed, has been investigated by means of a multi-plane stereoscopic particle image velocimetry setup. Velocity fields, phase-locked with the blade rotational motion, are acquired across several planes perpendicular to the blade axis and merged to form a 3D measurement volume. Transonic conditions have been reached at the tip region, with a revolution frequency of 19,800 rpm and a relative free-stream Mach number of 0.73 at the tip. The pressure field and the surface pressure distribution are inferred from the 3D velocity data through integration of the momentum Navier-Stokes equation in differential form, allowing for the simultaneous flow visualization and the aerodynamic loads computation, with respect to a reference frame moving with the blade. The momentum and pressure data are further integrated by means of a contour-approach to yield the aerodynamic sectional force components as well as the blade torsional moment. A steady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes numerical simulation of the entire propeller model has been used for comparison to the measurement data.  相似文献

The viscoelastic-capillary model to predict approximately coating windows for the stable operations of viscoelastic coating liquids is derived using a lubrication approximation in slot coating processes. Pressure distributions and velocity profiles for viscoelastic liquids based on the Oldroyd-B and Phan-Thien and Tanner (PTT) models are solved in the coating bead region considering the Couette-Poiseuille flow feature and the pressure jumps at upstream and downstream menisci. Practical operating limits for the uniform coating of rheologically different liquids that are free from leaking and bead break-up defects are constructed under various conditions, incorporating the position of the upstream meniscus as an important indicator while determining limits. The shift of the uniform operating range shows different patterns for the Oldroyd-B liquid with a constant shear viscosity and the PTT liquid with a shear-thinning nature in comparison with the Newtonian case. The windows predicted by the simplified model are corroborated with experimental observations for one Newtonian and two viscoelastic liquids.  相似文献

Tip gap height effects on the flow structure over a cavity squealer tip have been investigated in a linear turbine cascade for power generation, in comparison with the corresponding plane tip results. Oil film flow visualizations are conducted on the tip surface and casing wall for tip gap height-to-chord ratios of h/c = 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0%. The squealer tip has a recessed cavity enclosed by a full length squealer with its rim height-to-chord ratio of 5.51%. The results show that most of in-coming fluid entering the tip gap inlet for the cavity squealer tip is entrapped by the suction-side squealer rim, and the cavity fluid is discharged into the blade flow passage over the suction-side squealer rim in the region from the mid-chord to the trailing edge. Regardless of h/c, the cavity squealer tip makes the leakage flow zone narrower than the plane tip, and is superior to the plane tip in reducing the tip leakage mass flow rate. A qualitative flow model describing full flow features over the cavity squealer tip is suggested. In this flow model, the tip gap exit area is classified into four different regions, and the tip gap height effects on the discharge characteristics in each region are discussed in detail.  相似文献

We consider the use of pressure measurements in contraction flows in the determination of the extensional viscosity behaviour of polymer solutions. The experimental data are interpreted on the basis of the recent theory of Binding. The resulting extensional viscosities are compared with those obtained from a commercial Spin Line Rheometer. We conclude that contraction flows provide a convenient means of determining the extensional viscosity of shear-thinning polymer solutions. The case is not so clear for constant viscosity Boger fluids. In the course of the experiments, it is shown that excess pressure losses in the contractions can be brought about by two distinct flow mechanisms in the case of Boger fluids. In the axisymmetric case, both vortex enhancement and excess pressure loss are observed, although there is not a strict one-to-one correlation between these phenomena. In the planar case, vortex enhancement is not conspicuously present, although there is still a substantial excess pressure loss at high flow rates. This excess must be associated with the ‘bulb’ flow field which essentially replaces the vortex-enhancement regime of the axisymmetric case.  相似文献

The behaviour of an aqueous poly(ethylene oxide) sucrose solution and of a suspension of glass beads in a similar solution has been examined in elongational flow using a spinline rheometer. Over the accessible strain-rate range of ca. 1 to 10 s?1 these fluids behaved essentially as elastic materials whereas, at similar strain rates in shear, they show shear-thinning behaviour.  相似文献

Two techniques that improve the aerodynamic performance of wind turbine airfoils are described. The airfoil S809, designed specially for wind turbine blades, and the airfoil FX60-100, having a higher lift-drag ratio, are selected to verify the flow control techniques. The flow deflector, fixed at the leading edge, is employed to control the boundary layer separation on the airfoil at a high angle of attack. The multi-island genetic algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of the flow deflector. The results indicate that the flow deflector can suppress the flow separation, delay the stall, and enhance the lift. The characteristics of the blade tip vortex, the wake vortex, and the surface pressure distributions of the blades are analyzed. The vortex diffuser, set up at the blade tip, is employed to control the blade tip vortex. The results show that the vortex diffuser can increase the total pressure coefficient of the core of the vortex, decrease the strength of the blade tip vortex, lower the noise, and improve the efficiency of the blade.  相似文献

Predictions of pressure drop and holdup are presented for the stratified flow of gas and non-Newtonian liquid obeying the Ostwald-de Waele power law model. The model of Taitel & Dukler (1976) for gas/Newtonian liquid flow is extended to liquids possessing either shear-thinning or shear-thickening laminar flow behaviour and computed results are given for flow behaviour indices in the range 0.1 ≤ n ≤ 2. In particular, conditions are defined for drag reduction of the liquid flow by the presence of the gas. It is concluded that drag reduction occurs over the largest ranges of liquid and gas flow rates at the lowest n values, provided that liquid flow remains laminar, but that maximum drag reduction may be expected for shear-thickening liquids with n values of 2 or greater. Ratios of the liquid flow rate in the presence of gas to that for liquid flow alone under a constant pressure gradient are also presented. These ratios frequently exceed unity and are greatest for highly shear-thinning liquids.Although the Taitel & Dukler approach is consistent with experiments on gas/Newtonian liquid flow, and, in addition, appears to be valid for immiscible Newtonian liquid-liquid systems, provided that the viscosity ratio of the two phases is at least five, experiments are required to confirm its applicability for gas/non-Newtonian systems.  相似文献

Field experiments are performed on a two-bladed 33 kW horizontal-axis wind turbine (HAWT). The pressures are measured with 191 pressure sensors positioned around the surfaces of seven spanwise section airfoils on one of the two blades. Three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) numerical simulations are performed, respectively, on the rotor and the seven airfoils of the blade. The results are compared with the experimental results of the pressure distribution on the seven airfoils and the lift coefficients. The 3D rotational effect on the blade aerodynamic characteristics is then studied with a numerical approach. Finally, some conclusions are drawn as follows. From the tip to the root of the blade, the experimental differential pressure of the blade section airfoil increases at first and then decreases gradually. The calculated 3D result of the pressure distribution on the blade surface is closer to that of the experiment than the 2D result. The 3D rotational effect has a significant impact on the blade surface flow and the aerodynamic load, leading to an increase of the differential pressure on the airfoils and their lift coefficient than that with the 2D one because of the stall delay. The influence of the 3D rotational effect on the wind turbine blade especially takes place on the sections with flow separation.  相似文献

The shear viscosity of clay-based coating colors containing latex and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) has been measured over a relatively large shearrate region. In the shear-rate range of 50–1500 s–1 the measurements were performed using a rotational viscometer and, at higher shear rates extending into the region 105 – 106 s–1, a high pressure capillary viscometer was employed. The viscosity of the clay colors increased with increasing CMC-concentration, but the influence of the CMC-content was less pronounced at higher shear rates. The apparent shear-thinning behavior of the investigated colors could, in part, be attributed to the shear-thinning of the corresponding polymer (CMC) solution constituting the liquid phase of the color, but the influence of another factor was also indicated. At low shear rates, the interaction between the color components can produce relatively high viscosity levels, but in the high shear rate region these interactions appear to be less important for the viscosity level. It is also of interest to note that the viscosity dependence on the solids content in the high shear-rate region could be described with reasonable accuracy using an empirical equation neglecting interactions between the color components.  相似文献

Coating of particulate materials in fluidized beds is a widely used technique to eliminate particle agglomeration, provide slow release of an active substance, or protect active ingredients. When thin polymer shells are applied on a particle surface, it is important to determine the process parameters that provide coating uniformity. In this study, the degree of coverage, defined as the fraction of the coated surface of the particles, is proposed as a quantitative criterion of coating uniformity. A new model for the batch fluidized-bed coating process is presented. The model allows prediction of the function of particle distribution according to the degree of coverage at a given process time and thereby enables assessment of coating uniformity. An algorithm for the numerical solution of model equations for a batch fluidized-bed coater is described. The influences of the main process parameters on the coating uniformity were shown.  相似文献

This investigation presents detailed experimental measurements of an active tip-clearance control method based on tip injection in a high-turning axial turbine cascade. Besides that, numerical investigations are also conducted to study phenomena which are not easily measured in the experiments. It aims to study the influence of tip injection on tip clearance flow, with emphasis on the effects of injection locations. Detailed flow field measurements were made downstream of the cascade using a three-hole probe. Static pressure distributions were also measured on the blade surface at 50% and 97.5% span, respectively. The results suggest that tip injection can weaken tip clearance flow, reducing the tip clearance mass flow and its associated losses. Meanwhile, the heat transfer condition on the blade tip surface can be also improved significantly. It also can be found that injection chordwise location plays an important role in the redistribution of secondary flow within the cascade passage. When the same number of injection holes and injection mass flow are applied, holes located in the aft part of blade can perform much better than that in the front part.  相似文献

The effect of a casing fence on the tip-leakage flow of an axial flow fan is investigated using large eddy simulation. A fence is attached on the shroud near the trailing edge of an axial flow fan used in an outdoor unit of air conditioner. The Reynolds number is 547,000 based on the blade tip radius and tip velocity. At the design condition, the fan efficiency is increased by the casing fence. The roles of the fence are to block backward leakage flows near the shroud and to weaken the movement of the tip-leakage vortex (TLV) in the azimuthal direction. Also, the fence reduces the double-leakage tip-clearance flow generated at the aft part of the blade tip due to the TLV-blade interaction, reducing the strength of the tip-separation vortex. Consequently, the tip leakage and total pressure losses are reduced, and the efficiency is increased. The pressure fluctuations on the aft part of the blade tip of the pressure surface caused by the TLV-blade interaction are also significantly reduced by the fence, indicating reduction of the noise source. According to the interaction between the fence and backward leakage flow induced by the TLV, the fence significantly and slightly increases the aerodynamic performances at the design and peak efficiency conditions, respectively, but reduces them at an overflow condition.  相似文献

Tip leakage aerodynamics over stepped squealer tips in a turbine cascade   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Tip gap flow physics and aerodynamic loss generations for two stepped squealer tips of a “Higher Pressure-side rim and Lower Suction-side rim” (HPLS) tip and a “Lower Pressure-side rim and Higher Suction-side rim” (LPHS) tip have been investigated in a turbine cascade. For a fixed tip gap height-to-chord ratio of h/c = 2.0%, oil film flow visualizations are performed on the casing wall as well as on the cavity floor, and three-dimensional flow fields downstream of the cascade are measured with a five-hole probe. For the HPLS tip, the leakage inflow over the pressure-side rim cannot reach the suction-side rim in the upstream region due to the presence of an inlet flow intrusion, and there exists a strong near-wall flow heading toward the trailing edge all over the cavity floor. On the other hand, the LPHS tip has a mid-chord leakage flow penetration into the blade flow passage, and also provides a downstream leakage flow penetration deeper than that for the HPLS tip. Its cavity floor can be divided into a backward flow region and a wide separation bubble. Aerodynamic loss for the HPLS tip, which is nearly identical to that for the cavity squealer tip, is lower than those for the LPHS and plane tips in a considerable degree.  相似文献

Oil well cement pastes and model silica suspensions demonstrate similar rheology: in oscillatory shear, beyond a critical stress, a sharp transition is ob- served between gel and liquid behaviour. In creep tests, an apparent yield stress and shear-thinning are followed by the appearance of shear thickening. The minimum viscosity measured in steady shear is close in value to the complex viscosity obtained from oscillatory measurements. The observations can be explained by the formation of liquid trapping aggregates whose compactness may be estimated by fitting the Tsenoglou model, and whose cohesion is reflected in the rigidity of the gel and in the critical strain (or stress) of gel dissolution. Substituting cement or silica particles by polymer redispersible powder causes a decrease of the storage modulus in the gel state and a lower viscosity, while leaving the general features of the flow curve unchanged. Decrease in material rigidity may be due to a weaker inter-particle attraction generated by the polymer presence. The decrease in viscosity is explained by a lessening of water entrapped within the aggregates, which now contain polymer particles which are less hydrophilic than either cement or silica.  相似文献

The long wave stability of core-annular flow of power-law fluids with an axial pressure gradient is investigated at low Reynolds number. The interface between the two fluids is populated with an insoluble surfactant. The analytic solution for the growth rate of perturbation is obtained with long wave approximation. We are mainly concerned with the effects of shear-thinning/thickening property and interfacial surfactant on the flow stability. The results show that the influence of shear-thinning/thickening property accounts to the change of the capillary number. For a clean interface, the shear-thinning property enhances the capillary instability when the interface is close to the pipe wall. The converse is true when the interface is close to the pipe centerline. For shear-thickening fluids, the situation is reversed. When the interface is close to the pipe centerline, the capillary instability can be restrained due to the influence of surfactant. A parameter set can be found under which the flow is linearly stable.  相似文献
