Identity ion-pair S(N)2 reactions LiX + CH(3)X --> XCH(3) + LiX (X = F, Cl, Br, and I) have been investigated in the gas phase and in solution at the level of the modified Gaussian-2 theory. Two possible reaction mechanisms, inversion and retention, are discussed. The reaction barriers relative to the complexes for the inversion mechanism [DeltaH(cent) ( not equal )(inv)] are found to be much higher than the corresponding values for the gas phase anionic S(N)2 reactions, decreasing in the following order: F (263.6 kJ mol(-1)) > Cl (203.3 kJ mol(-1)) > Br (174.7 kJ mol(-1)) > I (150.7 kJ mol(-1)). The barrier gaps between the two mechanisms [DeltaH(cent) ( not equal ) (ret) - DeltaH(cent) ( not equal ) (inv)] increase in the order F (-62.7 kJ mol(-1)) < Cl (4.4 kJ mol(-1)) < Br (24.9 kJ mol(-1)) < I (45.1 kJ mol(-1)). Thus, the retention mechanism is energetically favorable for fluorine and the inversion mechanism is favored for other halogens, in contrast to the anionic S(N)2 reactions at carbon where the inversion reaction channel is much more favorable for all of the halogens. The stabilization energies for the dipole-dipole complexes CH(3)X. LiX (DeltaH(comp)) are found to be similar for the entire set of systems with X = F, Cl, Br, and I, ranging from 53.4 kJ mol(-1) for I up to 58.9 kJ mol(-1) for F. The polarizable continuum model (PCM) has been used to evaluate the direct solvent effects on the energetics of the anionic and ion-pair S(N)2 reactions. The energetic profiles are found to be still double-well shaped for most of the ion-pair S(N)2 reactions in the solution, but the potential profile for reaction LiI + CH(3)I is predicted to be unimodal in the protic solvent. Good correlations between central barriers [DeltaH(cent) ( not equal ) (inv)] with the geometric looseness of the inversion transition state %C-X( not equal ), the dissociation energies of the C-X bond (D(C-X)) and Li-X bond (D(Li-X)) are observed, respectively.  相似文献

Quasiclassical direct dynamics trajectories, calculated at the MP2/6-31G level of theory, are used to study the central barrier dynamics for the C1(-) + CH(3)Cl S(N)2 reaction. Extensive recrossings of the central barrier are observed in the trajectories. The dynamics of the Cl(-)-CH(3)Cl complex is non-RRKM and transition state theory (TST) is predicted to be an inaccurate model for calculating the Cl(-) + CH(3)Cl S(N)2 rate constant. Direct dynamics trajectories also show that Cl(-) + CH(3)Cl trajectories, which collide backside along the S(N)2 reaction path, do not form the Cl(-)-CH(3)Cl complex. This arises from weak coupling between the Cl(-)-CH(3)Cl intermolecular and CH(3)Cl intramolecular modes. The trajectory results are very similar to those of a previous trajectory study, based on a HF/6-31G* analytic potential energy function, which gives a less accurate representation of the central barrier region of the Cl(-) + CH(3)Cl reaction than does the MP2/6-31G* level of theory used here. Experiments are suggested for investigating the non-RRKM and non-TST dynamics predicted by the trajectories.  相似文献

An ab initio analytical potential energy surface called BW3 for the ClH2 reactive system is presented. The fit of this surface is based on about 1 200 ab initio energy points, computed with multi-reference configuration interaction(MRCI) and scaling external correlation (SEC) method and a very large basis set. The precision in the fit is very high. The BW3 surface could reproduce correctly the dissociation energy of H2 and HCl, and the endothermicity of the Cl + H2 abstraction reaction. For the Cl + H2 abstraction reaction, the saddle point of BW3 lies in collinear geometries, and the barrier height is 32.84 kJ/mol; for the H + ClH exchange reaction, the barrier of BW3 is also linear, with a height of 77.40 kJ/mol.  相似文献

Rotationally resolved infrared emission spectra of HCl(v=1-3) in the reaction of Cl+CH3SH, initiated with radiation from a laser at 308 nm, are detected with a step-scan Fourier-transform spectrometer. Observed rotational temperature of HCl(v=1-3) decreases with duration of reaction due to collisional quenching; a short extrapolation to time zero based on data in the range 0.25-4.25 micros yields a nascent rotational temperature of 1150+/-80 K. The rotational energy averaged for HCl(v=1-3) is 8.2+/-0.9 kJ mol(-1), yielding a fraction of available energy going into rotation of HCl, fr=0.10+/-0.01, nearly identical to that of the reaction Cl+H(2)S. Observed temporal profiles of the vibrational population of HCl(v=1-3) are fitted with a kinetic model of formation and quenching of HCl(v=1-3) to yield a branching ratio (68+/-5):(25+/-4):(7+/-1) for formation of HCl(v=1):(v=2):(v=3) from the title reaction and its thermal rate coefficient k(2a)=(2.9+/-0.7)x10(-10) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1). Considering possible estimates of the vibrational population of HCl(v=0) based on various surprisal analyses, we report an average vibrational energy 36+/-6 kJ mol(-1) for HCl. The fraction of available energy going into vibration of HCl is f(v)=0.45+/-0.08, significantly greater than a value fv=0.33+/-0.06 determined previously for Cl+H2S. Reaction dynamics of Cl+H(2)S and Cl+CH3SH are compared; the adduct CH3S(Cl)H is likely more transitory than the adduct H(2)SCl.  相似文献

The unimolecular reactions of CF3CFClCH2Cl molecules formed with 87 kcal mol(-1) of vibrational energy by recombination of CF3CFCl and CH2Cl radicals at room temperature have been characterized by the chemical activation technique. The 2,3-ClH and 2,3-FH elimination reactions, which have rate constants of (2.5 +/- 0.8) x 10(4) and (0.38 +/- 0.11) x 10(4) s(-1), respectively, are the major reactions. The 2,3-FCl interchange reaction was not observed. The trans (or E)-isomers of CF3CFCHCl and CF3CClCHCl are favored over the cis (or Z)-isomers. Density functional theory at the B3PW91/6-31G(d',p') level was used to evaluate thermochemistry and structures of the molecule and transition states. This information was used to calculate statistical rate constants. Matching the calculated to the experimental rate constants for the trans-isomers gave threshold energies of 62 and 63 kcal mol(-1) for HCl and HF elimination, respectively. The threshold energy for FCl interchange must be 3-4 kcal mol(-1) higher than for HF elimination. The results for CF3CFClCH2Cl are compared to those from CF3CFClCH3; the remarkable reduction in rate constants for HCl and HF elimination upon substitution of one Cl atom for one H atom is a consequence of both a lower E and higher threshold energies for CF3CFClCH2Cl.  相似文献

Density functional theory computations and pulsed-ionization high-pressure mass spectrometry experiments have been used to explore the potential energy surfaces for gas-phase S(N)2 reactions between halide ions and trifluoromethyl halides, X(-) + CF(3)Y --> Y(-) + CF(3)X. Structures of neutrals, ion-molecule complexes, and transition states show the possibility of two mechanisms: back- and front-side attack. From pulsed-ionization high-pressure mass spectrometry, enthalpy and entropy changes for the equilibrium clustering reactions for the formation of Cl(-)(BrCF(3)) (-16.5 +/- 0.2 kcal mol(-1) and -24.5 +/- 1 cal mol(-1) K(-1)), Cl(-)(ICF(3)) (-23.6 +/- 0.2 kcal mol(-1)), and Br(-)(BrCF(3)) (-13.9 +/- 0.2 kcal mol(-1) and -22.2 +/- 1 cal mol(-1) K(-1)) have been determined. These are in good to excellent agreement with computations at the B3LYP/6-311+G(3df)//B3LYP/6-311+G(d) level of theory. It is shown that complex formation takes place by a front-side attack complex, while the lowest energy S(N)2 reaction proceeds through a back-side attack transition state. This latter mechanism involves a potential energy profile which closely resembles a condensed phase S(N)2 reaction energy profile. It is also shown that the Cl(-) + CF(3)Br --> Br(-) + CF(3)Cl S(N)2 reaction can be interpreted using Marcus theory, in which case the reaction is described as being initiated by electron transfer. A potential energy surface at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d) level of theory confirms that the F(-) + CF(3)Br --> Br(-) + CF(4) S(N)2 reaction proceeds through a Walden inversion transition state.  相似文献

Reactions of chloramine, NH2Cl, with HO-, RO- (R = CH3, CH3CH2, CH3CH2CH2, C6H5CH2, CF3CH2), F- , HS- , and Cl- have been studied in the gas phase using the selected ion flow tube technique. Nucleophilic substitution (S(N)2) at nitrogen to form Cl- has been observed for all the nucleophiles. The reactions are faster than the corresponding S(N)2 reactions of methyl chloride; the chloramine reactions take place at nearly every collision when the reaction is exothermic. The thermoneutral identity S(N)2 reaction of NH2Cl with Cl-, which occurs approximately once in every 100 collisions, is more than two orders of magnitude faster than the analogous reaction of CH3Cl. The significantly enhanced S(N)2 reactivity of NH2Cl is consistent with a previous theoretical prediction that the barrier height for the S(N)2 identity reaction at nitrogen is negative relative to the energy of the reactants, whereas this barrier height for reaction at carbon is positive. Competitive proton abstraction to form NHCl- has also been observed with more highly basic anions (HO-, CH3O-, and CH3CH2O-), and this is the major reaction channel for HO- and CH3O-. Acidity bracketing determines the heat of deprotonation of NH2Cl as 374.4 +/- 3.0 kcal mol(-1).  相似文献

Using photofragment translational spectroscopy and tunable vacuum-ultraviolet ionization, we measured the time-of-flight spectra of fragments upon photodissociation of vinyl fluoride (CH2CHF) at 157 and 193 nm. Four primary dissociation pathways--elimination of atomic F, atomic H, molecular HF, and molecular H2--are identified at 157 nm. Dissociation to C2H3 + F is first observed in the present work. Decomposition of internally hot C2H3 and C2H2F occurs spontaneously. The barrier heights of CH2CH --> CHCH + H and cis-CHCHF --> CHCH + F are evaluated to be 40+/-2 and 44+/-2 kcal mol(-1), respectively. The photoionization yield spectra indicate that the C2H3 and C2H2F radicals have ionization energies of 8.4+/-0.1 and 8.8+/-0.1 eV, respectively. Universal detection of photoproducts allowed us to determine the total branching ratios, distributions of kinetic energy, average kinetic energies, and fractions of translational energy release for all dissociation pathways of vinyl fluoride. In contrast, on optical excitation at 193 nm the C2H2 + HF channel dominates whereas the C2H3 + F channel is inactive. This reaction C2H3F --> C2H2 + HF occurs on the ground surface of potential energy after excitation at both wavelengths of 193 and 157 nm, indicating that internal conversion from the photoexcited state to the electronic ground state of vinyl fluoride is efficient. We computed the electronic energies of products and the ionization energies of fluorovinyl radicals.  相似文献

Peptides and proteins may contain post-translationally modified phosphorylated amino acid residues, in particular phosphorylated serine (pSer), threonine (pThr) and tyrosine (pTyr). Following earlier work by Lehmann et al., the [M-H]- anions of peptides containing pSer and pThr functionality show loss of the elements of H3PO4. This process, illustrated for Ser (and using a model system), is CH3CONH-C(CH2OPO3H2)CONHCH(3) --> [CH3CONHC(==CH2)CONHCH3 (-OPO3H2)] (a) --> [CH3CONHC(==CH2)CONHCH3-H]- + H3PO4, a process endothermic by 83 kJ mol(-1) at the MP2/6-31++G(d,p)//HF/6-31++G(d,p) level of theory. In addition, intermediate (a) may decompose to yield CH3CONHC(==CH2)CONHCH3 + H2PO4 - in a process exothermic by 3 kJ mol(-1). The barrier to the transition state for these two processes is 49 kJ mol(-1). Characteristic cleavages of pSer and pThr are more energetically favourable than the negative ion backbone cleavages of peptides described previously. In contrast, loss of HPO3 from [M-H]- is characteristic of pTyr. The cleavage [NH2CH(CH2-C6H4-OPO3H-)CO2H] --> [NH2C(CH2-C6H4-O-)CO2H (HPO3)] (b) --> NH2CH(CH2-C6H4-O-)CO2H + HPO3 is endothermic by 318 kJ mol(-1) at the HF/6-31+G(d)//AM1 level of theory. In addition, intermediate (b) also yields NH2CH(CH2-C6H4-OH)CO2H + PO3 - (reaction endothermic by 137 kJ mol(-1)). The two negative ion cleavages of pTyr have a barrier to the transition state of 198 kJ mol(-1) (at the HF/6-31+G(d)//AM1 level of theory) comparable with those already reported for negative ion backbone cleavages.  相似文献

Reaction cross sections and product velocity distributions are presented for the bimolecular gas-phase nucleophilic substitution (S(N)2) reaction Cl(-) + CH(3)Br --> CH(3)Cl + Br(-) as a function of collision energy, 0.06-24 eV. The exothermic S(N)2 reaction is inefficient compared with phase space theory (PST) and ion-dipole capture models. At the lowest energies, the S(N)2 reaction exhibits the largest cross sections and symmetrical forward/backward scattering of the CH(3)Cl + Br(-) products. The velocity distributions of the CH(3)Cl + Br(-) products are in agreement with an isotropic PST distribution, consistent with a complex-mediated reaction and a statistical internal energy distribution of the products. Above 0.2 eV, the velocity distributions become nonisotropic and nonstatistical, exhibiting CH(3)Cl forward scattering between 0.2 and 0.6 eV. A rebound mechanism with backward scattering above 0.6 eV is accompanied by a new rising feature in the CH(3)Cl + Br(-) cross sections. The competitive endothermic reaction Cl(-) + CH(3)Br --> CH(3) + ClBr(-) rises from its thermochemical threshold at 1.9 +/- 0.4 eV, showing nearly symmetrically scattered products just above threshold and strong backward scattering above 3 eV associated with a second feature in the cross section.  相似文献

Following the photodissociation of o-fluorotoluene [o-C(6)H(4)(CH(3))F] at 193 nm, rotationally resolved emission spectra of HF(1< or =v< or =4) in the spectral region of 2800-4000 cm(-1) are detected with a step-scan Fourier transform spectrometer. HF(v< or =4) shows nearly Boltzmann-type rotational distributions corresponding to a temperature approximately 1080 K; a short extrapolation from data in the period of 0.5-4.5 mus leads to a nascent rotational temperature of 1130+/-100 K with an average rotational energy of 9+/-2 kJ mol(-1). The observed vibrational distribution of (v=1):(v=2):(v=3)=67.6: 23.2: 9.2 corresponds to a vibrational temperature of 5330+/-270 K. An average vibrational energy of 25+/-(3) (12) kJ mol(-1) is derived based on the observed population of HF(1< or =v< or =3) and estimates of the population of HF (v=0 and 4) by extrapolation. Experiments performed on p-fluorotoluene [p-C(6)H(4)(CH(3))F] yielded similar results with an average rotational energy of 9+/-2 kJ mol(-1) and vibrational energy of 26+/-(3) (12) kJ mol(-1) for HF. The observed distributions of internal energy of HF in both cases are consistent with that expected for four-center elimination. A modified impulse model taking into account geometries and displacement vectors of transition states during bond breaking predicts satisfactorily the rotational excitation of HF. An observed vibrational energy of HF produced from fluorotoluene slightly smaller than that from fluorobenzene might indicate the involvement of seven-membered-ring isomers upon photolysis.  相似文献

The rate constant for Cl + NH3 --> HCl + NH2 has been measured over 290-570 K by the time-resolved resonance fluorescence technique. Ground-state Cl atoms were generated by 193 nm excimer laser photolysis of CCl4 and reacted under pseudo-first-order conditions with excess NH3. The forward rate constant was fit by the expression k1 = (1.08 +/- 0.05) x 10(-11) exp(-11.47 +/- 0.16 kJ mol(-1)/RT) cm3 molecule(-1) s(-1), where the uncertainties in the Arrhenius parameters are +/-1 sigma and the 95% confidence limits for k1 are +/-11%. To rationalize the activation energy, which is 7.4 kJ mol(-1) below the endothermicity in the middle of the 1/T range, the potential energy surface was characterized with MPWB1K/6-31++G(2df,2p) theory. The products NH2 + HCl form a hydrogen-bonded adduct, separated from Cl + NH3 by a transition state lower in energy than the products. The rate constant for the reverse process k(-1) was derived via modified transition state theory, and the computed k(-1) exhibits a negative activation energy, which in combination with the experimental equilibrium constant yields k1 in fair accord with experiment.  相似文献

The reactions of C2-, C4-, and C6- with D2O and ND3 and of C4- with CH3OH, CH4, and C2H6 have been investigated using guided ion beam tandem mass spectrometry. Hydrogen (or deuterium) atom transfer is the major product channel for each of the reactions. The reaction threshold energies for collisional activation are reported. Several of the reactions exhibit threshold energies in excess of the reaction endothermicity. Potential energy calculations using density functional theory show energy barriers for some of the reactions. Dynamic restrictions related to multiple wells along the reaction path may also contribute to elevated threshold energies. The results indicate that the reactions with D2O have the smallest excess threshold energies, which may therefore be used to derive lower limits on the C-H bond dissociation energies of the C2nH- and C2nH (n = 1-3) linear species. The experimental lower limits for the bond dissociation energies of the neutral radicals to linear products are D0(C2-H) >or= 460 +/- 15 kJ/mol, D0(C4-H) >or= 427 +/- 12 kJ/mol, and D0(C6-H) >or= 405 +/- 11 kJ/mol.  相似文献

A laser flash photolysis-resonance fluorescence technique has been employed to determine absolute rate coefficients for the CH3F + Cl reaction in N2 bath gas in the temperature range of 200-700 K and pressure range of 33-133 hPa. The data were fitted to a modified Arrhenius expression k(T) = 1.14 x 10(-12) x (T/298)2.26 exp{-313/T}. The OH and Cl reaction rates of (13)CH3F and CD3F have been measured by long-path FTIR spectroscopy relative to CH3F at 298 +/- 2 K and 1013 +/- 10 hPa in purified air. The FTIR spectra were fitted using a nonlinear least-squares spectral fitting method including line data from the HITRAN database and measured infrared spectra as references. The relative reaction rates defined by alpha = k(light)/k(heavy) were determined to be k(OH+CH3F)/k(OH+CD3F) = 4.067 +/- 0.018, k(OH+CH3F)/k(OH+(13)CH3F) = 1.067 +/- 0.006, k(Cl+CH3F)/k(Cl+CD3F) = 5.11 +/- 0.07, and k(Cl+CH3F)/k(Cl+(13)CH3F) = 1.016 +/- 0.006. The carbon-13 and deuterium kinetic isotope effects in the OH and Cl reactions of CH3F have been further investigated by quantum chemistry methods and variational transition state theory.  相似文献

Photoionization mass spectrometry has been used to measure appearance energies for immonium cation formation from 25 alkyl amine precursors. A number of the unimolecular fragmentation processes are shown to involve excess energy at threshold so that, of the 11 different cations investigated, it is only possible to derive reliable 298 K heats of formation for CH2=NH2+ (749.0 +/- 0.9 kJ mol(-1)), CH(3)CH=NH2+ (666.1 +/- 1.1 kJ mol(-1)), C(2)H(5)CH=NH2+ (636.8 +/- 2.5 kJ mol(-1)), CH2=NH(CH3)+ (706.1 +/- 1.0 kJ mol(-1)), CH2=NH(C(2)H(5))+ (668.4 +/- 1.3 kJ mol(-1)), and CH2=N(CH3)2+ (668.0 +/- 2.5 kJ mol(-1)). When these are compared to those calculated by the G3, G3B3, G2, G2(MP2), CBS-APNO, and W1U composite ab initio methods, it is found that the smallest mean absolute deviation of 1.2 +/- 0.8 kJ mol(-1) is obtained from the G2 calculations.  相似文献
