We find bright and dark solitary wave solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation with cubic–quintic–septic terms adopting the ansatz solution of Li et al. [Li Z, Li L, Tian H, Zhou G. Phys. New types of solitary wave solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Phys Rev Lett 2000;84(18):4096–99.] which may describe propagation of pulses upto the order of 10 fs in a non-Kerr media. In this context, we have taken into account both the Raman and the self-steepening effect. All the solitary wave parameters and the parametric conditions for the solitary wave solutions are worked out.  相似文献

In observational cohort mortality studies with prolonged periods of exposure to the agent under study, it is not uncommon for risk factors for death to be determinants of subsequent exposure. For instance, in occupational mortality studies date of termination of employment is both a determinant of future exposure (since terminated individuals receive no further exposure) and an independent risk factor for death (since disabled individuals tend to leave employment). When current risk factor status determines subsequent exposure and is determined by previous exposure, standard analyses that estimate age-specific mortality rates as a function of cumulative exposure may underestimate the true effect of exposure on mortality whether or not one adjusts for the risk factor in the analysis. This observation raises the question, which if any population parameters can be given a causal interpretation in observational mortality studies?In answer, we offer a graphical approach to the identification and computation of causal parameters in mortality studies with sustained exposure periods. This approach is shown to be equivalent to an approach in which the observational study is identified with a hypothetical double-blind randomized trial in which data on each subject's assigned treatment protocol has been erased from the data file. Causal inferences can then be made by comparing mortality as a function of treatment protocol, since, in a double-blind randomized trial missing data on treatment protocol, the association of mortality with treatment protocol can still be estimated.We reanalyze the mortality experience of a cohort of arsenic-exposed copper smelter workers with our method and compare our results with those obtained using standard methods. We find an adverse effect of arsenic exposure on all-cause and lung cancer mortality which standard methods fail to detect.  相似文献

A general seasonally-varying predator–prey model with Allee effect in the prey growth is investigated. The analysis is performed only on the basis of some properties determining the shape of the prey growth rate and the functional responses. General conditions for coexistence are determined, both in the case of weak and strong Allee effect. Finally, a modified Leslie–Gower predator–prey model with Allee effect is investigated. Numerical results illustrate the qualitative behaviors of the system, in particular the presence of periodic orbits.  相似文献

The Kneser-Hecke-operator is a linear operator defined on the complex vector space spanned by the equivalence classes of a family of self-dual codes of fixed length. It maps a linear self-dual codeC over a finite field to the formal sum of the equivalence classes of those self-dual codes that intersectC in a codi-mension 1 subspace. In this paper, we investigate the complex dynamics induced by Allee effect in a predator–prey model. For the non-spatial model, Allee effect remains the boundedness of positive solutions, and it also induces the model to exhibit one or two positive equilibria. Especially, in the case with strong Allee effect, the model is bistable. For the spatial model, without Allee effect, there is the nonexistence of diffusion-driven instability. And in the case with Allee effect, the positive equilibrium can be unstable under certain conditions. This instability is induced by Allee effect and diffusion together. Furthermore, via numerical simulations, the model dynamics exhibits both Allee effect and diffusion controlled pattern formation growth to holes, stripe–hole mixtures, stripes, stripe–spot mixtures, and spots replication. That is to say, the dynamics of the model with Allee effect is not simple, but rich and complex.  相似文献

The project Services@MediGRID consortium established a tool set of grid-based biomedical services since 2008. The services are related to genetic analysis, genome data visualization, and pharmacokinetic modeling. Furthermore, business concepts for these services have been examined which are supported by an accounting and billing service. While the tools cover a whole service chain for biomedicine, the business concepts are rather heterogeneous. However, the overall addressed target market areas show promising potential. In addition, a structured coaching process reduces friction in the technology transfer from grid computing to biomedicine. This should be considered for similar future endeavors.  相似文献

One-dimensional, nonisothermal gas flow model was solved to simulate the slow and fast fluid transients, such as those typically found in high-pressure gas transmission pipelines. The results of the simulation were used to understand the effect of different pipeline thermal models on the flow rate, pressure and temperature in the pipeline. It was found that simplified flow model with steady-state heat transfer term overestimates the amplitude of the temperature fluctuations in the pipeline. This result indicated that unsteady heat transfer model with the effect of heat accumulation in the surroundings of the pipeline should be used to calculate the gas parameters at locations of interest within high-pressure gas transmission pipelines.  相似文献

Due to the Balassa–Samuelson effect, the candidate countries to the European Monetary Union face a possible conflict between the effects of tradable productivity increase on inflation and on the appreciation of the real exchange rate on one hand, and the Maastricht criteria regarding inflation and exchange rate stability on the other hand. A restrictive monetary policy could succeed in reaching inflation criteria, but only with the cost of slowing down real convergence. This paper deals with the Balassa–Samuelson effect in Romania. The main conclusion of the paper is that in the period 1998–2006 the average annual rate of inflation generated by the Balassa–Samuelson effect in Romania was on average 0.6% in the case of the classical model. Due to the existence of government-regulated prices (mostly non-tradable goods) accounting for as much as 21% of the CPI basket in Romania – the price of non-tradables has increased by less than in the case those prices were market prices. If we include these regulated prices in non-tradable, which is named by us extended model, the impact of Balassa–Samuelson on inflation could have been on average 2.46%. Therefore, the Balassa–Samuelson effect is expected to result into higher inflation with future price liberalization for non-tradables.  相似文献

This paper addresses: firstly, kindergartners’ performance in length measurement, the components of their performance and its growth over time; secondly, the possibility to develop kindergartners’ performance in length measurement by reading to them from picture books. To answer the research questions, an experiment with a pretest–posttest experimental control group design was carried out involving nine experimental classes and nine control classes. The children in the experimental group participated in a 3-month picture book program that, among other things, spotlighted the measurement of length situated in meaningful contexts. Before and after the intervention, the children’s performance in length measurement was assessed in both groups. The responses of 308 kindergartners (4- to 6-year-olds) from two kindergarten years (K1 and K2) were analyzed. Analysis of the pretest data showed that the measurement tasks included in the test were not easy to solve. However, the children belonging to K2 did better than the younger children belonging to K1. Within children’s performance, three components could be identified: holistic visual recognition, ordering and unitizing. Finally, the effect of the intervention was investigated by comparing the performances of the experimental and control group in the pretest and the posttest. We found a weak but significant effect of reading picture books to children on their general measurement performance. However, this effect was only found for K1 children on the component of holistic visual recognition.  相似文献

A continuum mechanical model for rubber-toughened polymers undergoing inelastic deformation solely by distributed crazing is introduced. Scaling relations with regard to microstructural parameters are derived analytically from a simple unit cell model. The constitutive model is calibrated from experimental data for a commercial ABS material and well captures various aspects of its deformation and failure behaviour.
