Let G be a reductive group acting on an affine variety X, let xX be a point whose G-orbit is not closed, and let S be a G-stable closed subvariety of X which meets the closure of the G-orbit of x but does not contain x. In this paper we study G. R. Kempf’s optimal class Ω G (x; S) of cocharacters of G attached to the point x; in particular, we consider how this optimality transfers to subgroups of G. Suppose K is a G-completely reducible subgroup of G which fixes x, and let H = C G (K)0. Our main result says that the H-orbit of x is also not closed, and the optimal class Ω H (x; S) for H simply consists of the cocharacters in Ω G (x; S) which evaluate in H. We apply this result in the case that G acts on its Lie algebra via the adjoint representation to obtain some new information about cocharacters associated with nilpotent elements in good characteristic.  相似文献

Many known distance-regular graphs have extra combinatorial regularities: One of them is t-homogeneity. A bipartite or almost bipartite distance-regular graph is 2-homogeneous if the number γ i  = |{x | ∂(u, x) = ∂(v, x) = 1 and ∂(w, x) = i − 1}| (i = 2, 3,..., d) depends only on i whenever ∂(u, v) = 2 and ∂(u, w) = ∂(v, w) = i. K. Nomura gave a complete classification of bipartite and almost bipartite 2-homogeneous distance-regular graphs. In this paper, we generalize Nomura’s results by classifying 2-homogeneous triangle-free distance-regular graphs. As an application, we show that if Γ is a distance-regular graph of diameter at least four such that all quadrangles are completely regular then Γ is isomorphic to a binary Hamming graph, the folded graph of a binary Hamming graph or the coset graph of the extended binary Golay code of valency 24. We also consider the case Γ is a parallelogram-free distance-regular graph. Let G be a finite group. The prime graph Γ(G) of G is defined as follows. The vertices of Γ(G) are the primes dividing the order of G and two distinct vertices p and p′ are joined by an edge if there is an element in G of order pp′. We denote by k(Γ(G)) the number of isomorphism classes of finite groups H satisfying Γ(G) = Γ(H). Given a natural number r, a finite group G is called r-recognizable by prime graph if k(Γ(G)) =  r. In Shen et al. (Sib. Math. J. 51(2):244–254, 2010), it is proved that if p is an odd prime, then B p (3) is recognizable by element orders. In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(B p (3)), where p > 3 is an odd prime, then G @ Bp(3){G\cong B_p(3)} or C p (3). Also if Γ(G) = Γ(B 3(3)), then G @ B3(3), C3(3), D4(3){G\cong B_3(3), C_3(3), D_4(3)}, or G/O2(G) @ Aut(2B2(8)){G/O_2(G)\cong {\rm Aut}(^2B_2(8))}. As a corollary, the main result of the above paper is obtained.  相似文献

We investigate the relationships between smooth and strongly smooth points of the unit ball of an order continuous symmetric function space E, and of the unit ball of the space of τ-measurable operators E(M,t){E(\mathcal{M},\tau)} associated to a semifinite von Neumann algebra (M, t){(\mathcal{M}, \tau)}. We prove that x is a smooth point of the unit ball in E(M, t){E(\mathcal{M}, \tau)} if and only if the decreasing rearrangement μ(x) of the operator x is a smooth point of the unit ball in E, and either μ(∞; f) = 0, for the function f ? SE×{f\in S_{E^{\times}}} supporting μ(x), or s(x *) = 1. Under the assumption that the trace τ on M{\mathcal{M}} is σ-finite, we show that x is strongly smooth point of the unit ball in E(M, t){E(\mathcal{M}, \tau)} if and only if its decreasing rearrangement μ(x) is a strongly smooth point of the unit ball in E. Consequently, for a symmetric function space E, we obtain corresponding relations between smoothness or strong smoothness of the function f and its decreasing rearrangement μ(f). Finally, under suitable assumptions, we state results relating the global properties such as smoothness and Fréchet smoothness of the spaces E and E(M,t){E(\mathcal{M},\tau)}.  相似文献

We give examples of non-amenable infinite conjugacy classes groups Γ with the Haagerup property, weakly amenable with constant Λcb(Γ) = 1, for which we show that the associated II1 factors L(Γ) are strongly solid, i.e. the normalizer of any diffuse amenable subalgebra P ì L(G){P \subset L(\Gamma)} generates an amenable von Neumann algebra. Nevertheless, for these examples of groups Γ, L(Γ) is not isomorphic to any interpolated free group factor L(F t ), for 1 < t ≤  ∞.  相似文献

A set S of vertices in a graph G = (V, E) is a total restrained dominating set (TRDS) of G if every vertex of G is adjacent to a vertex in S and every vertex of V − S is adjacent to a vertex in V − S. The total restrained domination number of G, denoted by γ tr (G), is the minimum cardinality of a TRDS of G. Let G be a cubic graph of order n. In this paper we establish an upper bound on γ tr (G). If adding the restriction that G is claw-free, then we show that γ tr (G) = γ t (G) where γ t (G) is the total domination number of G, and thus some results on total domination in claw-free cubic graphs are valid for total restrained domination. Suppose Γ is a group acting on a set X, written as (Γ,X). An r-labeling f: X→{1,2, ..., r} of X is called distinguishing for (Γ,X) if for all σ∈Γ,σ≠1, there exists an element xX such that f(x)≠f(x σ ). The distinguishing number d(Γ,X) of (Γ,X) is the minimum r for which there is a distinguishing r-labeling for (Γ,X). If Γ is the automorphism group of a graph G, then d(Γ,V (G)) is denoted by d(G), and is called the distinguishing number of the graph G. The distinguishing set of Γ-actions is defined to be D*(Γ)={d(Γ,X): Γ acts on X}, and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs is defined to be D(Γ)={d(G): Aut(G)≅Γ}. This paper determines the distinguishing set of Γ-actions and the distinguishing set of Γ-graphs for almost simple groups Γ.  相似文献

The prime graph of a finite group G is denoted by Γ(G). In this paper as the main result, we show that if G is a finite group such that Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G has a unique nonabelian composition factor isomorphic to F 4(q). We also show that if G is a finite group satisfying |G| = |F 4(q)| and Γ(G) = Γ(F 4(q)), where q = 2 n  > 2, then G @ F4(q){G \cong F_4(q)}. As a consequence of our result we give a new proof for a conjecture of Shi and Bi for F 4(q) where q = 2 n  > 2.  相似文献

Let Γ be a distance-regular graph of diameter d ≥ 3 with c 2 > 1. Let m be an integer with 1 ≤ md − 1. We consider the following conditions:
(SC) m : For any pair of vertices at distance m there exists a strongly closed subgraph of diameter m containing them.
  (BB) m : Let (x, y, z) be a triple of vertices with ∂ Γ (x, y) = 1 and ∂ Γ (x, z) = ∂ Γ (y, z)  =  m. Then B(x, z) = B(y, z).
  (CA) m : Let (x, y, z) be a triple of vertices with ∂ Γ (x, y) = 2, ∂ Γ (x, z) = ∂ Γ (y, z) = m and |C(z, x) ∩ C(z, y)| ≥ 2. Then C(x, z) ∪ A(x, z) = C(y, z) ∪ A(y, z).
Suppose that the condition (SC) m holds. Then it has been known that the condition (BB) i holds for all i with 1 ≤ im. Similarly we can show that the condition (CA) i holds for all i with 1 ≤ im. In this paper we prove that if the conditions (BB) i and (CA) i hold for all i with 1 ≤ im, then the condition (SC) m holds. Applying this result we give a sufficient condition for the existence of a dual polar graph as a strongly closed subgraph in Γ.  相似文献

A set S of vertices of a graph G = (V, E) without isolated vertex is a total dominating set if every vertex of V(G) is adjacent to some vertex in S. The total domination number γ t (G) is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. The total domination subdivision number sdgt(G){{\rm sd}_{\gamma_t}(G)} is the minimum number of edges that must be subdivided (each edge in G can be subdivided at most once) in order to increase the total domination number. In this paper, we prove that sdgt(G) £ 2gt(G)-1{{\rm sd}_{\gamma_t}(G)\leq 2\gamma_t(G)-1} for every simple connected graph G of order n ≥ 3.  相似文献

We study the Cauchy problem for second order hyperbolic operators in the Gevrey classes where H(t,x) is given by the limit of a finite sum of functions such as a(t)b(x) with a(t) ≥ 0, b(x) ≥ 0. As a result, for any given positive integer N, we give an example H(t,x) which depends not only on t but also on x such that the Cauchy problem for P is well posed in the Gevrey class of order N.  相似文献

Simple graphs are considered. Let G be a graph andg(x) andf(x) integer-valued functions defined on V(G) withg(x)⩽f(x) for everyxɛV(G). For a subgraphH ofG and a factorizationF=|F 1,F 2,⃛,F 1| ofG, if |E(H)∩E(F 1)|=1,1⩽ij, then we say thatF orthogonal toH. It is proved that for an (mg(x)+k,mf(x) -k)-graphG, there exists a subgraphR ofG such that for any subgraphH ofG with |E(H)|=k,R has a (g,f)-factorization orthogonal toH, where 1⩽k<m andg(x)⩾1 orf(x)⩾5 for everyxɛV(G). A G-Frobenius graph F, as defined by Fang, Li, and Praeger, is a connected orbital graph of a Frobenius group G = K × H with Frobenius kernel K and Frobenius complement H. F is also shown to be a Cayley graph, F = Cay(K, S) for K and some subset S of the group K. On the other hand, a network N with a routing function R, written as (N, R), is an undirected graph N together with a routing R which consists of a collection of simple paths connecting every pair of vertices in the graph. The edge-forwarding index π(N) of a network (N, R), defined by Heydemann, Meyer, and Sotteau, is a parameter to describe tile maximum load of edges of N. In this paper, we study the edge-forwarding indices of Frobenius graphs. In particular, we obtain the edge-forwarding index of a G-Frobenius graph F with rank(G) ≤ 50.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. We define the prime graph Γ(G) as follows. The vertices of Γ(G) are the primes dividing the order of G and two distinct vertices p, q are joined by an edge if there is an element in G of order pq. Recently M. Hagie [5] determined finite groups G satisfying Γ(G) = Γ(S), where S is a sporadic simple group. Let p > 3 be a prime number. In this paper we determine finite groups G such that Γ(G) = Γ(PSL(2, p)). As a consequence of our results we prove that if p > 11 is a prime number and p ≢ 1 (mod 12), then PSL(2, p) is uniquely determined by its prime graph and so these groups are characterizable by their prime graph. Let G be a connected semisimple group over . Given a maximal compact subgroup KG() such that X = G()/K is a Hermitian symmetric domain, and a convenient arithmetic subgroup Γ ⊂ G(), one constructs a (connected) Shimura variety S = S(Γ) = Γ\X. If HG is a connected semisimple subgroup such that H() / K is maximal compact, then Y = H()/K is a Hermitian symmetric subdomain of X. For each gG() one can construct a connected Shimura variety S(H, g) = (H() ∩ g −1Γg)\Y and a natural holomorphic map j g : S(H, g) → S induced by the map H() → G(), hgh. Let us assume that G is anisotropic, which implies that S and S(H, g) are compact. Then, for each positive integer k, the map j g induces a restriction map
In this paper we focus on classical Hermitian domains and give explicit criterions for the injectivity of the product of the maps R g (for g running through G()) when restricted to the strongly primitive (in the sense of Vogan and Zuckerman) part of the cohomology. In the holomorphic case we recover previous results of Clozel and Venkataramana [CV]. We also derive applications of our results to the proofs of new cases of the Hodge conjecture and of new results on the vanishing of the cohomology of some particular Shimura variety.  相似文献

. In this work we consider finite undirected simple graphs. If G=(V,E) is a graph we denote by α(G) the stability number of G. For any vertex x let N[x] be the union of x and the neighborhood N(x). For each pair of vertices ab of G we associate the set J(a,b) as follows. J(a,b)={uN[a]∩N[b]∣N(u)⊆N[a]∪N[b]}. Given a graph G, its partially squareG * is the graph obtained by adding an edge uv for each pair u,v of vertices of G at distance 2 whenever J(u,v) is not empty. In the case G is a claw-free graph, G * is equal to G 2. If G is k-connected, we cover the vertices of G by at most ⌈α(G *)/k⌉ cycles, where α(G *) is the stability number of the partially square graph of G. On the other hand we consider in G * conditions on the sum of the degrees. Let G be any 2-connected graph and t be any integer (t≥2). If ∑ x S deg G (x)≥|G|, for every t-stable set SV(G) of G * then the vertex set of G can be covered with t−1 cycles. Different corollaries on covering by paths are given. In this paper, we will prove the existence of infinitely many harmonic and subharmonic solutions for the second order differential equation g(x) = f(t, x) using the phase plane analysis methods and Poincaré–Birkhoff Theorem, where the nonlinear restoring field g exhibits superlinear conditions near the infinity and strong singularity at the origin, and f(t, x) = a(t)x γb(t, x) where 0 ≤ γ ≤ 1 and b(t, x) is bounded.  相似文献

Two natural extensions of Jensen’s functional equation on the real line are the equations f(xy) + f(xy −1) =  2f(x) and f(xy) + f(y −1 x) =  2f(x), where f is a map from a multiplicative group G into an abelian additive group H. In a series of papers (see Ng in Aequationes Math 39:85–99, 1990; Ng in Aequationes Math 58:311–320, 1999; Ng in Aequationes Math 62:143–159, 2001), Ng solved these functional equations for the case where G is a free group and the linear group GLn(R), R=\mathbbZ,\mathbbR{{GL_n(R), R=\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{R}}} , is a quadratically closed field or a finite field. He also mentioned, without a detailed proof, in the above papers and in (see Ng in Aequationes Math 70:131–153, 2005) that when G is the symmetric group S n , the group of all solutions of these functional equations coincides with the group of all homomorphisms from (S n , ·) to (H, + ). The aim of this paper is to give an elementary and direct proof of this fact.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are given for asymptotic stability of the linear differential system x′  =  B(t)x with B(t) being a 2  ×  2 matrix. All components of B(t) are not assumed to be positive. The matrix B(t) is naturally divisible into a diagonal matrix D(t) and an anti-diagonal matrix A(t). Our concern is to clarify a positive effect of the anti-diagonal part A(t)x on the asymptotic stability for the system x′  =  B(t)x.   相似文献
