A wide range of diffractive elements have been used to evaluate the topological charge of Laguerre–Gaussian beams. Here, we show theoretically and experimentally that this charge can be simply and readily measured from the interference pattern in Young’s double-slit experiment. It can be evaluated from the twisting order of the interference. The results are confronted with previously published studies. The potentialities of the method are then compared with existing techniques.  相似文献

This work relates to the famous experiments, performed in 1975 and 1979 by Werner et al., measuring neutron interference and neutron Sagnac effects in the earth’s gravitational field. Employing the method of Stodolsky in its weak field approximation, explicit expressions are derived for the two phase shifts, which turn out to be in agreement with the experiments and with the previously obtained expressions derived from semi-classical arguments: these expressions are simply modified by relativistic correction factors.  相似文献

It is already well known that radiative interband interaction in the excitonic normal liquid in semiconducting double quantum wells is responsible for a negligible splitting between the energies of the dark and bright excitons enabling us to consider a four fold spin degeneracy. This has also lead many workers to naively consider the same degeneracy in studying the condensate. On the other hand, the non-perturbative aspects of this interaction in the condensed phase, e.g. its consequences on the order parameter and the dark–bright mixture in the ground state have not been explored. In this work, we demonstrate that the ground state concentrations of the dark and the bright exciton condensates are dramatically different beyond a sharp interband coupling threshold where the contribution of the bright component in the ground state vanishes. This shows that the effect of the radiative interband interaction on the condensate is nonperturbative.We also observe in the free energy a discontinuous derivative with respect to the layer separation at the entrance to the condensed phase, indicating a strong critical Casimir force. An estimate of its strength shows that it is measurable. Measuring the Casimir force is challenging, but at the same time it has a conclusive power about the presence of the long sought for condensed phase.  相似文献

We consider the Hamiltonian ofα,β-Fermi Pasta Ulam lattice and explore the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism to obtain the discrete equation of motion.By using the continuum limit approximations and incorporating some normalized parameters,the extended Korteweg-de Vries equation is obtained,with solutions that elucidate on the Fermi Pasta Ulam paradox.We further derive the nonlinear Schrodinger amplitude equation from the extended Korteweg-de Vries equation,by exploring the reductive perturbative technique.The dispersion and nonlinear coefficients of this amplitude equation are functions of theαandβparameters,with theβparameter playing a crucial role in the modulational instability analysis of the system.Forβgreater than or equal to zero,no modulational instability is observed and only dark solitons are identified in the lattice.However forβless than zero,bright solitons are traced in the lattice for some large values of the wavenumber.Results of numerical simulations of both the Korteweg-de Vries and nonlinear Schr¨odinger amplitude equations with periodic boundary conditions clearly show that the bright solitons conserve their amplitude and shape after collisions.  相似文献

A method has been proposed for calculating the two-dimensional Young??s modulus and the Poisson??s ratio for planar and nanotubular structures through the components of the two-dimensional elastic rigidity tensor obtained by numerical methods. In the paper, the elasticity theory was applied to consider the mechanical properties of rectilinearly anisotropic seven-constant tetragonal crystals and their cylindrically anisotropic nano/microtubes with and with no chiral angle, being the angle between the crystallographic symmetry axis and elongated tube axis. Pt is found that the number of crystals with negative Poisson’s ratio is the least for rectilinear anisotropy and is much larger for curvilinear anisotropy. With a nonzero chiral angle, all nano/microtubes can have negative Poisson’s ratio. The elastic problem on axial tension of cylindrical nano/microtubes is solved for radially inhomogeneous stresses: three normal stresses and one shear stress.  相似文献

This paper reports on a study performed in the temperature range 100–293 K, in air and in vacuum, for the amplitude and time dependences of the Young’s modulus and the internal friction (ultrasound damping) of biocarbon precursors prepared from white pine wood at two pyrolysis (carbonization) temperatures of 1000 and 2400°C. The measurements have been conducted by the resonance technique with a composite vibrator on samples cut along and across the tree growth direction. The desorption of molecules of the external medium at low amplitudes of ultrasonic vibrations has been found to produce the pronounced influence on the effective elastic modulus and elastic vibration decrement. The data obtained from acoustic measurements of the amplitude dependences of the elastic modulus have been used to estimate the microplastic properties of the samples. It has been shown that increasing the carbonization temperature gives rise to noticeable changes in the Young’s modulus and internal friction, as well as to reduction of the microplastic stress σ y of the biomaterial studied. The stress σ y of the samples cut across the growth direction has been found to be substantially smaller than that of the “longitudinal” samples. The elastic and microplastic properties of precursors prepared from white pine wood have been compared with those of the white eucalyptus wood.  相似文献

The study of materials with unusual mechanical properties has attracts a lot of attention in view of new possibilities for their application. One of these properties is negative Poisson’s ratio which is commonly found in crystalline materials (materials with linear anisotropy). We analyze side-coupled standing-wave cavity structures consisting of Fabry-Perot and photonic crystal resonators coupled to two waveguides. We show that optical bright and dark states, analogous to those observed in coherent light-matter interactions, can exist in these systems. These structures may be useful for variable, switchable delay lines.  相似文献

Contrary to a standard definition of diabatic states (i.e., those without momentum-dependent coupling), based on the construction from adiabatic ones, we defined diabatic states as bright and dark states of a given experiment. Namely, they are defined as states providing maximum, respectively, zero value of electronic transition dipole moments projected to a given polarization vector. Second, the state from (or to) which the optical transition is performed is not from the space of investigated electronic excited state manifold, but it is chosen by the observer. It is shown, for this case, that the inter-state coupling is a general function of vibrational coordinates. The explicit dependence of the inter-state coupling on vibrational coordinates is particularly important for system with strong Stokes shift. The role of exact definitions of bright and dark states as well as the inter-state coupling is discussed with respect to the coherent structure of electronic population observed in optical spectroscopy.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) of semiconductor quantum dots. A general theoretical framework is developed that accounts for photo excitation and relaxation in complex dielectric environments. We find that in the near-field regime bright and dark excitonic states become mixed, opening new channels for the coupling to the electromagnetic field.  相似文献

An experimentally viable approach for preparing arbitrary photon number states of a cavity mode using continuous measurement and real-time quantum feedback is presented. The procedure passively monitors the number state actually achieved in each feedback-stabilized measurement trajectory, thus providing nondestructively verifiable photon generation. The feasibility of a possible cavity QED implementation in the many-atom, good-cavity-coupling regime is analyzed.  相似文献

Many applications in quantum information or quantum computing require radiation with a fixed number of photons. This increased the demand for systems able to produce such fields. We discuss the production of photon fields with a fixed photon number on demand. The first experimental demonstration of the device is described. This setup is based on a cavity quantum electrodynamics scheme using the strong coupling between excited atoms and a single-mode cavity field.  相似文献

用数值方法分析了平行传播异色光伏暗孤子之间及亮-暗孤子之间的相互作用.结果表明,光伏暗孤子共轴传播能在有限的距离内保持准孤子形态,靠近传播时存在着相互吸引的作用 ,而相距较远传播时表现为一孤子暗区使另一孤子的缓变光场部分发生局部会聚作用.光伏暗孤子与亮孤子的相互作用随距离的不同可使亮孤子光强分布变尖锐或变平缓,以及使亮孤子发生能量转移.从两束信号光共同引起折射率波导这一物理机理对光伏孤子这些相互作用给出定性物理解释. 关键词: 光伏空间孤子 暗孤子 亮孤子 相互作用  相似文献

For the first time, we derive the photon number cumulant for two-mode squeezed state and show that its cumulant expansion leads to normalization of two-mode photon subtracted-squeezed states and photon added- squeezed states. We show that the normalization is related to Jacobi polynomial, so the cumulant expansion in turn represents the new generating function of Jacobi polynomial.  相似文献

We show the formation of tunneling-induced ultraslow bright and dark solitons in an asymmetric double-quantumwell structure based on the tunneling induced transparency.In this semiconductor structure,the pump field is replaced by the electron-tunneling coupling,which can be modulated by a static electric field.With appropriate conditions,we demonstrate by modulating the intensity of the static electric field that the interplay between the group velocity dispersion and the self-Kerr nonlinearity results in the generation of dark and bright solitons with ultraslow group velocity.  相似文献

利用Darboux变换法,解析地研究了局限于恒定不变外部势阱中的玻色-爱因斯坦凝聚体的非线性动力学性质.结果发现凝聚体中的粒子之间的相互作用强度对其非线性动力学特征有重要的影响.当玻色子之间的相互排斥作用相当强时,凝聚体中只会存在亮孤子;而玻色子之间的相互排斥作用相当弱(小于临界值)时,凝聚体中会出现亮孤子和暗孤子交替演化. 关键词: 玻色-爱因斯坦凝聚 Darboux变换 孤子  相似文献
