The purpose of this paper is on the one hand to extend and generalize, in terms of Clifford translations, some results in a previous paper (Math. Z. 239 (2002), 277–291) concerning the existence of closed timelike geodesics in compact spacetimes, and on the other hand to prove that a compact flat spacetime (M, g) contains a closed timelike geodesic if and only if the fundamental group π1(M) contains a non-trivial timelike translation.  Let M m be a compact oriented smooth manifold admitting a smooth circle action with isolated fixed points which are isolated as singularities as well. Then all the Pontryagin numbers of M m are zero and its Euler number is nonnegative and even. In particular, M m has signature zero. We apply this to obtain non-existence of harmonic morphisms with one-dimensional fibres from various domains, and a classification of harmonic morphisms from certain 4-manifolds. Let (M =]0, ∞[×N, g) be an asymptotically hyperbolic manifold of dimension n + 1 ≥ 3, equipped with a warped product metric. We show that there exist no TT L 2-eigentensors with eigenvalue in the essential spectrum of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian Δ L . If (M, g) is the real hyperbolic space, there is no symmetric L 2-eigentensors of Δ L .  相似文献

We prove the following vanishing theorem. Let M be an irreducible symmetric space of noncompact type whose dimension exceeds 2 and M ≠SO0(2, 2)/SO(2) × SO(2). Let π : E →* M be any vector bundle. Then any E-valued L2 harmonic 1-form over M vanishes. In particular we get the vanishing theorem for harmonic maps from irreducible symmetric spaces of noncompact type.  相似文献

Let K be a field complete for a discrete valuation and with algebraically closed residue field of positive characteristic p. We prove the existence of a non-degenerate pairing between the first (flat) cohomology group of an abelian variety A K over K and the fundamental group of the Néron model of the dual abelian variety. This pairing extends to the p-primary components a pairing introduced by Shafarevich in [16]. We relate this pairing with Grothendieck's pairing.  Let T be a triangulated category and let X be an object of T. This paper studies the questions: Does there exist a triangulated functor G : D(ℤ)  T with G(ℤ)≌X? Does there exist a triangulated functor H : T  D(ℤ) with h0 ⊚ H ⋍ HomT (X, −)? To what extent are G and H unique? One spin off is a proof that the homotopy category of spectra is not the stable category of any Frobenius category with set indexed coproducts.  Let M be a motive defined over a number field K and the associated system of -adic representations. Assuming some (mild) conditions on M we determine the image in the case that M is three-dimensional and equipped with a symmetric bilinear form. We can show further that several conjectures on -adic representations hold for M. Received: 4 October 2000 / Revised version: 21 April 2002  相似文献

Let X be a projective bundle. We prove that X admits an endomorphism of degree >1 and commuting with the projection to the base, if and only if X trivializes after a finite covering. When X is the projectivization of a vector bundle E of rank 2, we prove that it has an endomorphism of degree >1 on a general fiber only if E splits after a finite base change.  Let (M n ,g) be a compact Riemannian manifold with a smooth boundary. In this paper, we give a Lichnerowicz-Obata type lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of (M n ,g) when M has a parallel p-form (2 ≤pn/2). This result follows from a new Bochner-Reilly's formula. Moreover, we give a characterization of the equality case when (M n ,g) is simply connected. Received: 1 June 2001  相似文献

Let M be a 2m-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold with Anosov geodesic flow. We prove that every closed bounded k form, k≥2, on the universal covering of M is d(bounded). Further, if M is homotopy equivalent to a compact K?hler manifold, then its Euler number χ(M) satisfies (−1) m χ(M)>0. Received: 25 September 2001 / Published Online: 16 October 2002  相似文献

We study the geometric behavior of the normal bundle T M of a submanifold M of a Riemannian manifold . We compute explicitely the second fundamental form of T M and look at the relation between the minimality of T M and M. Finally we show that the Maslov forms with respect to a suitable connection of the pair (T M, are null. Received March 14, 2001; in revised form February 11, 2002  相似文献

Let χ be a Dirichlet character modulo k > 1, and F χ(n) the arithmetical function which is generated by the product of the Riemann zeta-function and the Dirichlet L-function corresponding to χ in . In this paper we study the asymptotic behaviour of the exponential sums involving the arithmetical function F χ(n). The Linear 2-Arboricity of Planar Graphs   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Let G be a planar graph with maximum degree Δ and girth g. The linear 2-arboricity la 2(G) of G is the least integer k such that G can be partitioned into k edge-disjoint forests, whose component trees are paths of length at most 2. We prove that (1) la 2(G)≤⌈(Δ+1)/2⌉+12; (2) la 2(G)≤⌈(Δ+1)/2⌉+6 if g≥4; (3) la 2(G)≤⌈(Δ+1)/2⌉+2 if g≥5; (4) la 2(G)≤⌈(Δ+1)/2⌉+1 if g≥7.  The maximal Seshadri number μ(L) of an ample line bundle L on a smooth projective variety X measures the local positivity of the line bundle L at a general point of X. By refining the method of Ein-Küchle-Lazarsfeld, lower bounds on μ(L) are obtained in terms of L n , n=dim(X), for a class of varieties. The main idea is to show that if a certain lower bound is violated, there exists a non-trivial foliation on the variety whose leaves are covered by special curves. In a number of examples, one can show that such foliations must be trivial and obtain lower bounds for μ(L). The examples include the hyperplane line bundle on a smooth surface in ℙ3 and ample line bundles on smooth threefolds of Picard number 1.
