The aim of this paper was to address the relationship between the porosity and micro-mechanical properties of the Ni-based alloy coatings which were prepared by a novel plasma-spraying system. The porosity and the mechanical properties of the coatings varied through changing the spraying parameters. Experimental results showed that the measured data of porosity, Young’s modulus and micro-hardness of the coating exhibited high scattering and followed the Weibull distribution. From statistic trend, the micro-hardness and Young’s modulus of the coating decreased with increasing the porosity of the coating. Moreover, generally, with increasing the micro-hardness of the coating, Young’s modulus of the coating increased.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is a bioactive material because its chemical structure is close to the natural bone. Its bioactive properties make it attractive material in biomedical applications. Gas tunnel type plasma spraying (GTPS) technique was employed in the present study to deposit HA coatings on SUS 304 stainless steel substrate. GTPS is composed of two plasma sources: gun which produces internal low power plasma (1.3-8 kW) and vortex which produces the main plasma with high power level (10-40 kW). Controlling the spraying parameters is the key role for spraying high crystalline HA coatings on the metallic implants. In this study, the arc gun current was changed while the vortex arc current was kept constant at 450 A during the spraying process of HA coatings. The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of gun current on the microstructure, phase crystallinity and hardness properties of HA coatings. The surface morphology and microstructure of as-sprayed coatings were examined by scanning electron microscope. The phase structure of HA coatings was investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. HA coatings sprayed at high gun current (100 A) are dense, and have high hardness. The crystallinity of HA coatings was decreased with the increasing in the gun current. On the other hand, the hardness was slightly decreased and the coatings suffer from some porosity at gun currents 0, 30 and 50 A.  相似文献

The electrochemical corrosion of plasma spray Ni-coated WC cermet coatings, after laser treatment, has been studied in 3.5% NaCl solution through immersion test. The main corrosion mechanism for as-sprayed coating is the galvanic corrosion between coating and substrate, resulting in the detachment of coating from substrate, while the homogeneous corrosion occurs for the laser treatment coating. However, the corrosion trace for the as-sprayed pure coating could not be found. It is found that the electrochemical corrosion has been found heavily depending on the galvanic corrosion between the coating and the substrate. The defects, such as pores and laminar structures in the coating, could act as the infiltration paths of the electrolyte.  相似文献

The aim of this paper was to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties of the supersonic plasma-sprayed Ni-Cr-B-Si-C coatings prepared at different spraying powers. The microstructure, phase composition, porosity, Young's modulus, micro-hardness, and residual stresses of the coatings were investigated and determined. The variations of the porosity, Young's modulus and micro-hardness of the coatings were evaluated by using statistical method. Results showed that the variations of porosity, Young's modulus and micro-hardness of the coatings followed the Weibull distributions. With increasing the porosity, the micro-hardness and Young's modulus of the coating decreased. The mean value of the Young's modulus of the coating calculated from Weibull plot was almost proportional to the square root of the micro-hardness of the coating. With increasing the power, Young's modulus of the coating increased, which, in turn, resulted in the increment of the residual stress at the coating surface.  相似文献

The WC-Co coating obtained by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) was modified by Cu electrochemical impregnation. The copper has infiltrated into and filled up the pores in WC-Co coating. The tribological properties of the coating against the stainless steel ball as sliding pairs were investigated with a ball-on-disc (BOD) configuration in air at room temperature. The as-prepared samples were characterized by means of optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. It was found that the frictional behavior of the WC-Co coating followed by Cu electrochemical impregnation was superior to that of WC-Co coating. The wear mechanism of the WC-Co coating followed by Cu electrochemical impregnation was microcutting, whilst that of a WC-Co coating was the fatigue wear. The improvement in tribological properties of the WC-Co coating followed by Cu electrochemical impregnation was attributed to the formation of self-lubricating Cu film on the wear surface which induces the transformation of wear mechanism.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings with different surface roughnesses were deposited on a Ti substrate via aerosol deposition (AD). The effect of the surface roughness on the cellular response to the coating was investigated. The surface roughness was controlled by manipulating the particle size distribution of the raw powder used for deposition and by varying the coating thickness. The coatings obtained from the 1100 °C-heated powder exhibited relatively smooth surfaces, whereas those fabricated using the 1050 °C-heated powder had network-structured rough surfaces with large surface areas and were superior in terms of their adhesion strengths and in vitro cell responses. The surface roughness (Ra) values of the coatings fabricated using the 1050 °C-heated powder increased from approximately 0.65 to 1.03 μm as the coating thickness increased to 10 μm. The coatings with a rough surface had good adhesion to the Ti substrate, exhibiting high adhesion strengths ranging from 37.6 to 29.5 MPa, depending on the coating thickness. The optimum biological performance was observed for the 5 μm-thick HA coating with an intermediate surface roughness value of 0.82 μm.  相似文献

In this paper, the plasma sprayed coatings were treated by laser remelting. The morphologies, elements analysis and phases of both sprayed and remelted coatings were studied by means of electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and so on. The results show that the structure of the sprayed coatings is coarse, the amorphization of HA is tremendous, and the bonding state between the coating and the substrate is mechanical combination. After the sprayed coatings were treated by laser remelting in a proper conditions, the properties of the coatings are improved greatly. The microstructure of remelted coatings is columnar and cellular dendritic crystal which is homogeneous and compact, and the coating consists of HA, -TCP and CaO phases, the Ca/P ratio of transition layer is close to 1.67, but the Ca/P ratio of surface layer is higher than that of HA because of the loss of P.  相似文献

This work studied the possibility of using a sensor based on plasma-sprayed zinc oxide (ZnO) sensitive layer for NO2 detection. The atmospheric plasma spray process was employed to deposit ZnO gas sensing layer and the obtained coating structure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The influences of gas concentration, working temperature, water vapor in testing air on NO2 sensing performance of the ZnO sensors were studied. ZnO sensors showed a good sensor response and selectivity to NO2 at an optimal working temperature.  相似文献

The microstructural inhomogeneity in the plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings was characterized by using electron probe microanalyser (EPMA). A simple and artful method was developed to detect the interface characteristics. All the samples for observation were ground and polished along the direction parallel to the coating surfaces. The BSE images directly and clearly showed the inhomogeneity in the as-sprayed coatings with the amorphous regions being bright gray and crystalline regions being dark gray. X-ray diffractometer (XRD) patterns indicated that after immersion in deionized water for 20 days, bone-like apatite and α-Ca2P2O7 precipitated on the polished surfaces of the as-sprayed HA coatings. The post-heat treatment could eliminate the microstructural inhomogeneity in the coatings. Only β-Ca2P2O7 precipitated on the surfaces of the heat-treated HA coatings. The immersed samples were re-polished till tiny substrate was bared to investigate the effect of immersion on interface. It was shown that the immersion decreased the cohesive strength of the as-sprayed coatings. There were more and broader cracks in the splats that came into contact with the substrate and amorphous phase increased toward the coating-substrate interface. Post-heat treatment was proved to reduce the peeling off of coating during re-polishing operation. It was proposed that the distributions of amorphous phase and cracks in as-sprayed coatings are detrimental to coating properties and should be modified through improving the plasma spraying processing.  相似文献

An attempt was made to study the effect of plasma surface activation on the adhesion of UV-curable sol-gel coatings on polycarbonate (PC) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrates. The sol was synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of a UV-curable silane in combination with Zr-n-propoxide. Coatings deposited by dip coating were cured using UV-radiation followed by thermal curing between 80 °C and 130 °C. The effect of plasma surface treatment on the wettability of the polymer surface prior to coating deposition was followed up by measuring the water contact angle. The water contact angle on the surface of as-cleaned substrates was 80° ± 2° and that after plasma treatment was 43° ± 1° and 50° ± 2° for PC and PMMA respectively. Adhesion as well as mechanical properties like scratch resistance and taber abrasion resistance were evaluated for coatings deposited over plasma treated and untreated surfaces.  相似文献

A simple and effective method, using calcium nitrate and triammonium phosphate as starting materials, for the preparation of water-dispersible hydroxyapatite nanorods (HAp) was reported. The process primarily involves the preparation of HAp with the addition of sodium citrate (NaC) and the exchange of absorbed ions (NaC) with sodium hexame taphosphate (NaP). The end products were investigated using various means in order to confirm the particles’ crystal phase and morphology and to understand how to improve their stability. The results demonstrate that the resulting HAp at 90 °C is rod-like with length of 300-400 nm and width of 40-60 nm. The zeta potential values of pure HAp, HAp-NaC, HAp-NaC/NaP are from −15.20, −30.89 to −44.84 mV. The settling time test shows the HAp-NaC/NaP could keep stable above 7 months without any creaming or visible sedimentation. The amount of NaC and the reaction temperature play significant roles in the whole process due to the formation of Ca containing precipitates.  相似文献

Dry-ice blasting, as an environmental-friendly method, was introduced into atmospheric plasma spraying for improving properties of metallic, alloy and ceramic coatings. The deposited coatings were then compared with coatings plasma-sprayed using conventional air cooling in terms of microstructure, temperature, oxidation, porosity, residual stress and adhesion. It was found that a denser steel or CoNiCrAlY alloy coating with a lower content of oxide can be achieved with the application of dry-ice blasting during the plasma spraying. In addition, the adhesive strength of Al2O3 coating deposited with dry-ice blasting exceeded 60 MPa, which was nearly increased by 30% compared with that of the coating deposited with conventional air cooling. The improvement in properties of plasma-sprayed metallic, alloy and ceramic coatings caused by dry-ice blasting was attributed to the decrease of annulus-ringed disk like splats, the better cooling efficiency of dry-ice pellets and even the mechanical effect of dry-ice impact.  相似文献

Three functional coatings (namely Al-C, Si-P-Al and P-F-Al coating) were fabricated by microarc oxidation method on Ti6Al4V alloy in different aqueous solutions. The microstructure, phase and chemical composition of coatings were investigated using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The interface adhesion failure mode of the coating is revealed by shear, tensile and thermal shock methods. The coatings exhibit high adhesion strength by the quantitative shearing test, registering as 110, 70, and 40 MPa for Al-C, Si-P-Al and P-F-Al coating, respectively. The tensile test of the coated samples shows that microarc oxidation treatment does not significantly deteriorate mechanical properties of substrate titanium alloy. The observations of the coating failure after subjected to the identical tensile elongation of 3.0% are well in agreement with those results of the shear test. The thermal cycle test indicates that all the coatings have good anti-thermal shocking properties.  相似文献

The oxidation of a NiCr bond coat during air plasma spraying was controlled by designing a gas shroud system attached to the plasma torch nozzle. Two nozzles, termed as “normal” and “high-speed” nozzles examined the effect of nozzle internal design on the microstructure and phase structure of coatings. X-ray diffraction and SEM morphologies showed that the shroud system reduced the oxidation of NiCr particles during the spray process. Compared with conventional air plasma spraying, the argon gas shroud reduced the coating hardness because the volume fraction of partially melted particles increased. The high-speed nozzle reduced the oxidation and hardness of NiCr coatings due to the increase of partially melted particles in the coatings.  相似文献

The speed of the surface Rayleigh wave, which is related to the viscoelastic properties of the medium, can be measured by noninvasive and noncontact methods. This technique has been applied in biomedical applications such as detecting skin diseases. Static spherical indentation, which quantifies material elasticity through the relationship between loading force and displacement, has been applied in various areas including a number of biomedical applications. This paper compares the results obtained from these two methods on five gelatin phantoms of different concentrations (5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5% and 15%). The concentrations are chosen because the elasticity of such gelatin phantoms is close to that of tissue types such as skin. The results show that both the surface wave method and the static spherical indentation method produce the same values for shear elasticity. For example, the shear elasticities measured by the surface wave method are 1.51, 2.75, 5.34, 6.90 and 8.40 kPa on the five phantoms, respectively. In addition, by studying the dispersion curve of the surface wave speed, shear viscosity can be extracted. The measured shear viscosities are 0.00, 0.00, 0.13, 0.39 and 1.22 Pa.s on the five phantoms, respectively. The results also show that the shear elasticity of the gelatin phantoms increases linearly with their prepared concentrations. The linear regressions between concentration and shear elasticity have R2 values larger than 0.98 for both methods.  相似文献

This paper reports the use of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to investigate bisphosphonate (BP) adsorption onto plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings commonly used for orthopaedic implants. BPs exhibit high binding affinity for the calcium present in HA and hence can be adsorbed onto HA-coated implants to exploit their beneficial properties for improved bone growth at the implant interface. A rigorous XPS analysis of pamidronate, a commonly used nitrogenous BP, adsorbed onto plasma sprayed HA-coated cobalt-chromium substrates has been carried out, aimed at: (a) confirming the adsorption of this BP onto HA; (b) studying the BP diffusion profile in the HA coating by employing the technique of XPS depth profiling; (c) confirming the bioactivity of the adsorbed BP. XPS spectra of plasma sprayed HA-coated discs exposed to a 10 mM aqueous BP solution (pamidronate) for periods of 1, 2 and 24 h showed nitrogen and phosphorous photoelectron signals corresponding to the BP, confirming its adsorption onto the HA substrate. XPS depth profiling of the 2 h BP-exposed HA discs showed penetration of the BP into the HA matrix to depths of at least 260 nm. The bioactivity of the adsorbed BP was confirmed by the observed inhibition of osteoclast (bone resorbing) cell activity. In comparison to the HA sample, the HA sample with adsorbed BP exhibited a 25-fold decrease in primary osteoclast cells.  相似文献

Bioactive glass-ceramic coatings have great potential in dental and orthopedic medical implant applications, due to its excellent bioactivity, biocompatibility and osteoinductivity. However, most of the coating preparation techniques either produce only thin thickness coatings or require tedious preparation steps. In this study, a new attempt was made to deposit bioactive glass-ceramic coatings on titanium substrates by the liquid precursor plasma spraying (LPPS) process. Tetraethyl orthosilicate, triethyl phosphate, calcium nitrate and sodium nitrate solutions were mixed together to form a suspension after hydrolysis, and the liquid suspension was used as the feedstock for plasma spraying of P2O5-Na2O-CaO-SiO2 bioactive glass-ceramic coatings. The in vitro bioactivities of the as-deposited coatings were evaluated by soaking the samples in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 4 h, 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, and 21 days, respectively. The as-deposited coating and its microstructure evolution behavior under SBF soaking were systematically analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The results showed that P2O5-Na2O-CaO-SiO2 bioactive glass-ceramic coatings with nanostructure had been successfully synthesized by the LPPS technique and the synthesized coatings showed quick formation of a nanostructured HCA layer after being soaked in SBF. Overall, our results indicate that the LPPS process is an effective and simple method to synthesize nanostructured bioactive glass-ceramic coatings with good in vitro bioactivity.  相似文献

Wetting behaviour of several plasma sprayed oxide surfaces were characterised using contact angle measurements. Since surfaces contained pores and cracks, the evaluation of wetting angles led only to rough estimation of surface free energies. In order to find out the effect of atmospheric contamination the wetting behaviour of plasma-etched surfaces was followed as a function of time.It was found out that the sample preparation method had great influence on the contact angle of plasma sprayed oxide surfaces. The contact angle of plasma-etched surfaces increased when the surfaces were exposed to air. The probable reason for that was adsorption of low surface free energy contaminants to the sample surfaces.  相似文献

The effect of heat treatment on the corrosion behavior of reactive plasma sprayed TiN coatings in simulated seawater was investigated by electrochemical methods such as the corrosion potential-time curve (Ecorr − t), potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and SEM, etc. The results showed that the corrosion potential of TiN coatings increased after heat treatment; the corrosion current of the TiN coatings after heat treatment (be hereafter referred to as HT-TiN) was 13.3% of the untreated coatings (be hereafter referred to as UT-TiN), and the polarization resistance of HT-TiN was 20 times of UT-TiN, which indicated that the heat treatment had significantly increased the corrosion resistance of the coatings. The corrosion behavior of the coatings was mainly local corrosion, and the local corrosion behavior mainly took place at the microdefects (crack and pores) of the coatings. The porosity of the coatings was reduced after heat treatment. The reason was that TiN reacted with O2 to form TiO2 and Ti3O during the heat treating, and volume expansion took place, which led to denser microstructure. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was therefore increased.  相似文献
