Experimental trials of autogenous deep penetration welding between dissimilar cast Ni-based superalloy K418 and alloy steel 42CrMo flat plates with 5.0 mm thickness were conducted using a 3 kW continuous wave (CW) Nd:YAG laser. The influences of laser output power, welding velocity and defocusing distance on the morphology, welding depth and width as well as quality of the welded seam were investigated. Results show that full keyhole welding is not formed on both K418 and 42CrMo side, simultaneously, due to the relatively low output power. Partial fusion is observed on the welded seam near 42CrMo side because of the large disparity of thermal–physical and high-temperature mechanical properties of these two materials. The microhardness of the laser-welded joint was also examined and analyzed. It is suggested that applying negative defocusing in the range of Raylei length can increase the welding depth and improve the coupling efficiency of the laser materials interaction.  相似文献

In the present work, CO2 continuous laser welding process was successfully applied and optimized for joining a dissimilar AISI 316 stainless-steel and AISI 1009 low carbon steel plates. Laser power, welding speed and defocusing distance combinations were carefully selected with the objective of producing welded joint with complete penetration, minimum fusion zone size and acceptable welding profile. Fusion zone area and shape of dissimilar austenitic stainless-steel with ferritic low carbon steel were evaluated as a function of the selected laser welding parameters. Taguchi approach was used as statistical design of experiment (DOE) technique for optimizing the selected welding parameters in terms of minimizing the fusion zone. Mathematical models were developed to describe the influence of the selected parameters on the fusion zone area and shape, to predict its value within the limits of the variables being studied. The result indicates that the developed models can predict the responses satisfactorily.  相似文献

This paper presents a pulsed Nd: YAG laser-robot system for spot and seam welding of mild steel sheets. The study evaluates the laser beams behaviour for welding, and then investigates pulsed Nd: YAG laser spot and seam welding processes. High pulse power intensity is needed to initiate the key-hole welding process and a threshold pulse energy to reach full penetration. In seam welding, a weld consists of successive overlapping spots. Both high pulse energy and high average power are needed to keep the key-hole welding going. A 70% overlap is used to define overlapping spot welding as seam welding and to optimize process parameters because a high tensile strength joint compatible with the strength of the base material can be obtained when the overlap is ≥70%; at the same time a smooth seam with full penetration is obtained. In these cases, the joints in pulsed Nd: YAG laser welding are comparable in strength to those obtained with CO2 laser welding. Robot positioning and motion accuracies can meet the demands of Nd: YAG laser sheet metal welding, but its cornering accuracy affects the welding processes. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the YAG laser-robot system for production in the automotive industry.  相似文献

The paper presented some useful results of deep-penetration laser welding of high-strength galvanized steel sheets, which had been carried out by a self-made CO2 laser unit with maximum power output of 1.5 kW. The workpieces of high-strength galvanized automobile steels with thickness of 1.5 mm were butt-welded with argon as the shielding gas. The effects of such factors as laser power, welding speed, focal position, shielding gas and zinc vaporization on the quality of welds are investigated. With the processing parameters optimized and the proper shielding gas used in both coaxial and side-blow direction, most of the defects, such as pores, cracks and softening in HAZ, can be avoided in laser welding joints. The microstructure, the hardness distribution and the elemental distribution in the welding joints can be changed due to laser heating and recrystallization. In order to determine the mechanical properties of the welding joints, the static tensile strength was tested. Experimental results indicated that both the strength and microhardness of welding joints were higher than those of the base metal. Consequently, the welding quality is reliable for manufacturing of automobile bodies.  相似文献

Ni-Fe-B-Si-Nb coatings have been deposited on mild steel substrates using high power laser cladding process followed by laser remelting. The influence of Ni-to-Fe concentration ratio in (Ni100−xFex)62B18Si18Nb2 (x = 55, 50, 45 and 40) powders on the phase composition and microstructure is analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning- and transmission-electron microscopies. The microhardness and corrosion resistance properties of the coatings are also measured. The results reveal that amorphous matrix layers are obtained for all coatings. The increase of the Ni-to-Fe ratio can promote the formation of γ(Fe-Ni) phase and decrease the formation of Fe2B phase and α-Fe phase. The coating with 1:1 ratio of Ni-to-Fe exhibits the highest microhardness of 1200 HV0.5 and superior corrosion resistance property due to its largest volume fraction of amorphous phase in the coating. Higher or lower than 1:1 ratio of Ni-to-Fe may result in lower amorphous forming ability. However, even that the coating with ratio of 3:2, shows a minimum of microhardness, it shows a better corrosion resistance than other two coatings.  相似文献

In this work thin sheets of Ti–6Al–4V were full penetration welded using a 5 kW fibre laser in order to evaluate the effectiveness of high power fibre laser as a welding processing tool for welding Ti–6Al–4V with the requirements of the aircraft industry and to determine the effect of welding parameters including laser power, welding speed and beam focal position on the weld microstructure, bead profile and weld quality. It involved establishing an understanding of the influence of welding parameters on microstructural change, welding defects, and the characteristics of heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld metal (WM) of fibre laser welded joints. The optimum range of welding parameters which produced welds without cracking and porosity were identified. The influence of the welding parameters on the weld joint heterogeneity was characterised by conducting detailed microstructural analysis.  相似文献

In laser welding, the shielding gas is commonly used to stabilize the welding process, to improve welded joints features and to protect the welded seam against oxidization. Besides the type of shielding gas used, the nozzle parameters play an essential role. In fact, the chemical composition of the shielding gas and the flow geometry are key factors limiting the size of the plasma plume and its contamination by the surrounding atmosphere, and affecting the final quality of the welded joints. In this work, we present an experimental study on the complex physical phenomena occurring during the interaction between the plasma plume, the laser beam and the shielding gas by using an in-process spectroscopic investigation of the plasma plume characteristics under different operating conditions. A correlation was found between the spectral features and the formation of oxide layers on the surface of the welding seam, caused by defective gas shielding and by the vaporization of alloying elements. Experimental results have given useful indications for the development of innovative welding nozzle for application in laser welding of aluminium alloys.  相似文献

Research on laser welding of vehicle body   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Based on many experiments of CO2 laser welding of vehicle body, joint microstructure and stress–strain curve of specimen are analyzed. The deep punching performance acquired by adopting Ar as protective gas is better than that of the one acquired by adopting N2 as protective gas. Meanwhile the percentage of zinc in welding seam can be effectively controlled by means of blowing side protective gas. In this paper, welding penetration and width are shown to vary with laser power and speed of welding. The results indicate that some flaws such as gas hole, crack and softening of HAZ do not appear in laser welding seam in sheet steel of automobile bodies if technology parameters optimizes. The deep punching performance of tailor-welding sheet is fine.  相似文献

This paper represented the effect of welding wires on microstructure and mechanical properties of 2A12 aluminum alloy in CO2 laser-metal inter gas (MIG) hybrid welding. Plates of 2A12 aluminum alloy were welded by ER4043 and ER2319 welding wires, respectively. Full penetration joints without any defects were produced. The X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the phase composition, while the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was conducted to study the microstructure, segregation behaviors of major alloying elements and the eutectics formed at dendrite boundaries in the joints. The results showed that silicon and copper were concentrated at the dendrite boundaries and α-Al + Si + Al2Cu + Mg2Si eutectic was formed if the ER4043 welding wire was used. However, only copper was concentrated at the dendrite boundaries and α-Al + θ eutectic was formed by ER2319 welding wire. Finally, the tensile tests were performed and the fracture surfaces were analyzed. The results showed that the joint efficiency by ER2319 and ER4043 welding wires reached up to 78% and 69%, respectively. Coarse dimples and voids had been observed in the fractographs. The joints showed a transgranular type failure.  相似文献

Transparent fused silica (SiO2) microspheres 2.5 μm in diameter were photochemically welded to transparent, flexible silicone rubber ([SiO(CH3)2]n) substrate by 193 nm ArF excimer laser induced photochemical modification of silicone into silicon oxide. Single layer of silica microspheres was easily formed on an adhesive silicone rubber before laser irradiation after dropping of silica microspheres dispersed in ethanol and subsequent tape peeling. The welding rate, the percentage of welded microspheres tested by ultrasonic cleaning with ethanol, was examined by varying the single pulse fluence and irradiation time of ArF excimer laser. The welding layer underneath microsphere, silicon oxide, was also found to emit white light of strong intensity under UV light illumination.  相似文献

The lap welding of JSC270CC steel and A6111-T4 aluminum alloys were carried out by a dual-beam YAG laser with the continuous wave (CW) and pulse wave (PW) modes. The microstructure of the welded joints were examined with SEM, EPMA while the properties were checked with microhardness tester and tensile testing machine. It was shown that the dual-beam laser welding can effectively reduce or avoid the formation of the blowholes in the welded joints. The PW laser beam penetrated the welding pool, leading to the root-shape structures with enhanced bonding strength at the weld interface. A 10 μm intermetallic compound (IMC) layer was generated at the interface. The shearing strength of lap joint was measured to be 128 MPa.  相似文献

This paper presents a study carried out on 3.5 kW cooled slab laser welding of 904 L super austenitic stainless steel. The joints have butts welded with different shielding gases, namely argon, helium and nitrogen, at a constant flow rate. Super austenitic stainless steel (SASS) normally contains high amount of Mo, Cr, Ni, N and Mn. The mechanical properties are controlled to obtain good welded joints. The quality of the joint is evaluated by studying the features of weld bead geometry, such as bead width (BW) and depth of penetration (DOP). In this paper, the tensile strength and bead profiles (BW and DOP) of laser welded butt joints made of AISI 904 L SASS are investigated. The Taguchi approach is used as a statistical design of experiment (DOE) technique for optimizing the selected welding parameters. Grey relational analysis and the desirability approach are applied to optimize the input parameters by considering multiple output variables simultaneously. Confirmation experiments have also been conducted for both of the analyses to validate the optimized parameters.  相似文献

Welding tests on the aluminium alloy AlMgSi1 (6082) by the use of a high power CO laser with good beam quality show higher penetration depths and better weld seam quality compared with the results obtained with a commercial industrial CO2 laser. Spectroscopy of the laser-induced welding plasma shows a strong decrease of the intensities of Al(II) lines and no appearance of Al(III) lines in CO laser aluminium welding compared with CO2 laser welding at the same process parameters. This is a consequence of the shorter 5 to 5.6 μm wavelength of the CO laser leading to reduced beam-plasma interaction.  相似文献

Relatively the high reflectivity of copper to CO2 laser led to the difficulty in joining copper to steel using laser welding. In this paper, a new method was proposed to complete the copper–steel laser butt welding. The scarf joint geometry was used, i.e., the sides of the copper and steel were in obtuse and acute angles, respectively. During the welding process, the laser beam was fixed on the steel side and the dilution ratio of copper to steel was controlled by properly selecting the deviation of the laser beam. The offset of laser beam depended on the scarf angle between the copper and steel, the thickness of plate and the processing parameters used in the laser welding. The microstructure near the interface between Cu plate and the intermixing zone was investigated. Experimental results showed that for the welded joint with high dilution ratio of copper, there was a transition zone with numerous filler particles near the interface. However, if the dilution ratio of copper is low, the transition zone is only generated near the upper side of the interface. At the lower side of the interface, the turbulent bursting behavior in the welding pool led to the penetration of liquid metal into Cu. The welded joint with lower dilution ratio of copper in the fusion zone exhibited higher tensile strength. On the bases of the microstructural evaluation at the interface of the welded joint, a physical model was proposed to describe the formation mechanism of the dissimilar joint with low dilution ratio of copper.  相似文献

This paper surveys the capability of the hybrid laser-arc welding in comparison with lone laser welding for AA2198 aluminum alloy experimentally. In the present research, a continuous Nd:YAG laser with a maximum power of 2000 W and a 350 A electric arc were used as two combined welding heat sources. In addition to the lone laser welding experiments, two strategies were examined for hybrid welding; the first one was low laser power (100 W) accompanied by high arc energy, and the second one was high laser power (2000 W) with low arc energy. Welding speed and arc current varied in the experiments. The influence of heat input on weld pool geometry was surveyed. The macrosection, microhardness profile and microstructure of the welded joints were studied and compared. The results indicated that in lone laser welding, conduction mode occurred and keyhole was not formed even in low welding speeds and thus the penetration depth was so low. It was also found that the second approach (high laser power accompanied with low arc energy) is superior to the first one (low laser power accompanied with high arc energy) in hybrid laser-arc welding of Al2198, since lower heat input was needed for full penetration weld and as a result a smaller HAZ was created.  相似文献

Using high-power CO2 and Nd:YAG lasers of high beam quality, high process efficiencies and excellent seam qualities are achieved. A particular method for obtaining almost pore-free weld seams without blowholes is the combining of the beams of two CO2 lasers. Without the need for filler material, crack-free welds can be produced in sheets of hot-crack susceptible, precipitation hardened alloys up to a welding speed of 5–7m min-1 for full penetration and up to 3–4m min-1 for partial penetration. In contrast, AlMg alloys containing more than 2.5wt% Mg and AlSi cast alloys are insensitive to hot-cracking even at high processing speeds. Laser welds possess much better static mechanical properties than gas tungsten arc (GTA) or gas metal arc (GMA) butt welds. For the alloys AlMgSi1 and AlMg5Mn the maximum static strength which can be achieved in laser welding is determined by the alloy type, i.e. the hardening mechanism and the heat-treated condition. Laser butt welded car body sheets without filler material exhibit the same load-bearing capacity under dynamical load as GMA welds with filler material. The latest research work has demonstrated that high-quality tailored blanks with good mechanical properties can also be made out of different aluminium plates.  相似文献

Spectroscopic signals originated by the laser-induced plasma optical emission have been simultaneously investigated together with energetic and metallographic analyses of CO2 laser welded stainless steel lap joint, using the Response Surface Methodology. This statistical approach allowed us to study the influence of the laser beam power and the laser welding speed on the following response parameters: plasma plume electron temperature, joint penetration depth and melted area. A clear correlation has been found between all the investigated response parameters. The results have been shown to be consistent with quantitative considerations on the energy supplied to the workpiece as far as the laser power and travel speed were varied. The regression model obtained in this way could be a valuable starting point to develop a closed loop control of the weld penetration depth and the melted area in the investigated process window.  相似文献

The fiber laser welding of austenitic stainless steel and commercially pure copper in butt joint configuration without filler or intermediate material is presented. In order to melt stainless steel directly and melt copper via heat conduction a defocused laser beam was used with an offset to stainless steel. During mechanical tests the weld seam was more durable than heat affected zone of copper so samples without defects could be obtained. Three process variants of offset of the laser beam were applied. The following tests were conducted: tensile test of weldment, intermediate layer microhardness, optical metallography, study of the chemical composition of the intermediate layer, fractography. Measurements of electrical resistivity coefficients of stainless steel, copper and copper–stainless steel weldment were made, which can be interpreted or recalculated as the thermal conductivity coefficient. It shows that electrical resistivity coefficient of cooper–stainless steel weldment higher than that of stainless steel. The width of intermediate layer between stainless steel and commercially pure copper was 41–53 µm, microhardness was 128–170 HV0.01.  相似文献

For the packaging of a pump laser in butterfly package, the most crucial assembly step is the fiber-to-laser diode coupling and attachment. The use of laser welding as the joining method offers several advantages if compared with the adhesive joints: strong joining strength, short process time and less contamination. This paper reports on laser welding process characteristics; weld strength and its fracture mode. The penetration depth and melt area of laser spot welds were found to be complicated functions of laser pulse energy, intensity, and beam diameter. Effects of pulse width, input power and size of the focal spot on the rate of energy input to the workpieces and consequently, the weld strength were reported. The weld strength was found to be dependent on the overlapping area between the two joining materials. Surface roughness, Ra, has influence on the fraction of energy absorbed, A, and therefore, affecting the penetration depth. Thermal analysis was carried out on the laser-welded joints and its heat-affected zone (HAZ) induced by various power densities was examined. These data are important in order to optimize and utilize the laser welding process as an effective manufacturing tool for fabrication of reliable pump laser.  相似文献
