In this paper, we study orthogonal polynomials with respect to the inner product (f, g)S(N) =〈u, fg〉+∑m=1N λmu, f(m)g(m) 〉, where λm≥0 form=1,…,N, anduis a semiclassical, positive definite linear functional. For these non-standard orthogonal polynomials, algebraic and differential properties are obtained, as well as their representation in terms of the standard orthogonal polynomials associated withu.  相似文献

We prove the following analytic continuation theorem which applies to any virtual representation of any symmetric space (G, K, σ). The problem of passing from the Euclidean group to the Poincaré group appears first to have been addressed and solved this way by Klein and Landau. Let G be a Lie group, K a closed subgroup, and σ an involutive automorphism with K as fixed-point subgroup. If = + is the corresponding symmetric Lie algebra, we form * = + , and let G* denote the simply connected Lie group with * as Lie algebra. We consider virtual representations π of G on a fixed complex Hilbert space , adopting the definitions due to J. Fröhlich, K. Osterwalder, and E. Seiler; in particular, π(g−1) π(σ(g))* (possibly unbounded operators) for g in a neighborhood of e in G. We prove that every such π continues analytically to a strongly continuous unitary representation of G* on . Our theorem extends results due to Klein-Landau, Fröhlich et al., and others, earlier, for special cases. Previous results were known only for special (G, K, σ), and then only for certain π.  相似文献

Let θ be an involution of a semisimple Lie algebra g, let gθ denote the fixed Lie subalgebra, and assume the Cartan subalgebra of g has been chosen in a suitable way. We construct a quantum analog of U(gθ) which can be characterized as the unique subalgebra of the quantized enveloping algebra of g which is a maximal right coideal that specializes to U(gθ).  相似文献

The predictive ratio is considered as a measure of spread for the predictive distribution. It is shown that, in the exponential families, ordering according to the predictive ratio is equivalent to ordering according to the posterior covariance matrix of the parameters. This result generalizes an inequality due to Chaloner and Duncan who consider the predictive ratio for a beta-binomial distribution and compare it with a predictive ratio for the binomial distribution with a degenerate prior. The predictive ratio at x1 and x2 is defined to be pg(x1)pg(x2)/[pg( )]2 = hg(x1, x2), where pg(x1) = ∫ ƒ(x1θ) g(θ) dθ is the predictive distribution of x1 with respect to the prior g. We prove that hg(x1, x2) ≥ hg*(x1, x2) for all x1 and x2 if ƒ(xθ) is in the natural exponential family and Covgx(θ) ≥ Covg*x(θ) in the Loewner sense, for all x on a straight line from x1 to x2. We then restrict the class of prior distributions to the conjugate class and ask whether the posterior covariance inequality obtains if g and g* differ in that the “sample size”  相似文献

Typical primitive polynomials over integer residue rings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let N be a product of distinct prime numbers and Z/(N) be the integer residue ring modulo N. In this paper, a primitive polynomial f(x) over Z/(N) such that f(x) divides xsc for some positive integer s and some primitive element c in Z/(N) is called a typical primitive polynomial. Recently typical primitive polynomials over Z/(N) were shown to be very useful, but the existence of typical primitive polynomials has not been fully studied. In this paper, for any integer m1, a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of typical primitive polynomials of degree m over Z/(N) is proved.  相似文献

Using a combinatorial approach that avoids geometry, this paper studies the structure of KT(G/B), the T-equivariant K-theory of the generalized flag variety G/B. This ring has a natural basis (the double Grothendieck polynomials), where is the structure sheaf of the Schubert variety Xw. For rank two cases we compute the corresponding structure constants of the ring KT(G/B) and, based on this data, make a positivity conjecture for general G which generalizes the theorems of M. Brion (for K(G/B)) and W. Graham (for HT*(G/B)). Let [Xλ]KT(G/B) be the class of the homogeneous line bundle on G/B corresponding to the character of T indexed by λ. For general G we prove “Pieri–Chevalley formulas” for the products , , , and , where λ is dominant. By using the Chern character and comparing lowest degree terms the products which are computed in this paper also give results for the Grothendieck polynomials, double Schubert polynomials, and ordinary Schubert polynomials in, respectively K(G/B), HT*(G/B) and H*(G/B).  相似文献

It is known that the Bernstein polynomials of a function f defined on [0, 1 ] preserve its convexity properties, i.e., if f(n) 0 then for m n, (Bmf)(n) 0. Moreover, if f is n-convex then (Bmf)(n) 0. While the converse is not true, we show that if f is bounded on (a, b) and if for every subinterval [α, β] (a, b) the nth derivative of the mth Bernstein polynomial of f on [α, β] is nonnegative then f is n-convex.  相似文献

A two-parameter family of polynomials is introduced by a recursion formula. The polynomials are orthogonal on the unit circle with respect to the weight ωα, β(θ) = |(1 − z)α(1 + z)β|2, α, β > − , z = eiθ. Explicit representation, norm estimates, shift identities, and explicit connection to Jacobi polynomials on the real interval [−1, 1] is presented.  相似文献

Let f(x)=(x-a1)?(x-am){f(x)=(x-a_1)\cdots (x-a_m)}, where a 1, . . . , a m are distinct rational integers. In 1908 Schur raised the question whether f(x) ± 1 is irreducible over the rationals. One year later he asked whether (f(x))2k+1{(f(x))^{2^k}+1} is irreducible for every k ≥ 1. In 1919 Pólya proved that if P(x) ? \mathbbZ[x]{P(x)\in\mathbb{Z}[x]} is of degree m and there are m rational integer values a for which 0 < |P(a)| < 2N N! where Nm/2ù{N=\lceil m/2\rceil}, then P(x) is irreducible. A great number of authors have published results of Schur-type or Pólya-type afterwards. Our paper contains various extensions, generalizations and improvements of results from the literature. To indicate some of them, in Theorem 3.1 a Pólya-type result is established when the ground ring is the ring of integers of an arbitrary imaginary quadratic number field. In Theorem 4.1 we describe the form of the factors of polynomials of the shape h(x) f(x) + c, where h(x) is a polynomial and c is a constant such that |c| is small with respect to the degree of h(x) f(x). We obtain irreducibility results for polynomials of the form g(f(x)) where g(x) is a monic irreducible polynomial of degree ≤ 3 or of CM-type. Besides elementary arguments we apply methods and results from algebraic number theory, interpolation theory and diophantine approximation.  相似文献

We establish sufficient conditions for the persistence and the contractivity of solutions and the global asymptotic stability for the positive equilibrium N*=1/(a+∑i=0mbi) of the following differential equation with piecewise constant arguments:
where r(t) is a nonnegative continuous function on [0,+∞), r(t)0, ∑i=0mbi>0, bi0, i=0,1,2,…,m, and a+∑i=0mbi>0. These new conditions depend on a,b0 and ∑i=1mbi, and hence these are other type conditions than those given by So and Yu (Hokkaido Math. J. 24 (1995) 269–286) and others. In particular, in the case m=0 and r(t)≡r>0, we offer necessary and sufficient conditions for the persistence and contractivity of solutions. We also investigate the following differential equation with nonlinear delay terms:
where r(t) is a nonnegative continuous function on [0,+∞), r(t)0, 1−axg(x,x,…,x)=0 has a unique solution x*>0 and g(x0,x1,…,xm)C1[(0,+∞)×(0,+∞)××(0,+∞)].  相似文献

A Gabor system is a set of time-frequency shifts S(g, Λ) ={e2 π ibxg(xa)}(a, b) Λ of a function g L2(Rd). We prove that if a finite union of Gabor systems k = 1rS(gk, Λk) forms a frame for L2(Rd) then the lower and upper Beurling densities of Λ = k = 1r Λk satisfy D(Λ) ≥ 1 and D + (Λ) < ∞. This extends recent work of Ramanathan and Steger. Additionally, we prove the conjecture that no collection k = 1r{gk(xa)}a Γk of pure translates can form a frame for L2(Rd).  相似文献

Let X and Y be Hausdorff topological vector spaces, K a nonempty, closed, and convex subset of X, C : K → 2Y a point-to-set mapping such that for any χ ε K, C(χ) is a pointed, closed, and convex cone in Y and int C(χ) ≠ 0. Given a mapping g : KK and a vector valued bifunction f : K × KY, we consider the implicit vector equilibrium problem (IVEP) of finding χ* ε K such that f g*), y) -int C(χ) for all y ε K. This problem generalizes the (scalar) implicit equilibrium problem and implicit variational inequality problem. We propose the dual of the implicit vector equilibrium problem (DIVEP) and establish the equivalence between (IVEP) and (DIVEP) under certain assumptions. Also, we give characterizations of the set of solutions for (IVP) in case of nonmonotonicity, weak C-pseudomonotonicity, C-pseudomonotonicity, and strict C-pseudomonotonicity, respectively. Under these assumptions, we conclude that the sets of solutions are nonempty, closed, and convex. Finally, we give some applications of (IVEP) to vector variational inequality problems and vector optimization problems.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be an d × -valued random vector and let (X1, Y1),…,(XN, YN) be a random sample drawn from its distribution. Divide the data sequence into disjoint blocks of length l1, …, ln, find the nearest neighbor to X in each block and call the corresponding couple (Xi*, Yi*). It is shown that the estimate mn(X) = Σi = 1n wniYi*i = 1n wni of m(X) = E{Y|X} satisfies E{|mn(X) − m(X)|p} 0 (p ≥ 1) whenever E{|Y|p} < ∞, ln ∞, and the triangular array of positive weights {wni} satisfies supinwnii = 1n wni 0. No other restrictions are put on the distribution of (X, Y). Also, some distribution-free results for the strong convergence of E{|mn(X) − m(X)|p|X1, Y1,…, XN, YN} to zero are included. Finally, an application to the discrimination problem is considered, and a discrimination rule is exhibited and shown to be strongly Bayes risk consistent for all distributions.  相似文献

A logarithmic Gauss curvature flow and the Minkowski problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let X0 be a smooth uniformly convex hypersurface and f a postive smooth function in Sn. We study the motion of convex hypersurfaces X(·,t) with initial X(·,0)=θX0 along its inner normal at a rate equal to log(K/f) where K is the Gauss curvature of X(·,t). We show that the hypersurfaces remain smooth and uniformly convex, and there exists θ*>0 such that if θ<θ*, they shrink to a point in finite time and, if θ>θ*, they expand to an asymptotic sphere. Finally, when θ=θ*, they converge to a convex hypersurface of which Gauss curvature is given explicitly by a function depending on f(x).  相似文献

Let f : 2N+ be a polymatroid (an integer‐valued non‐decreasing submodular set function with f(??) = 0). We call S ? N a base if f(S) = f(N). We consider the problem of finding a maximum number of disjoint bases; we denote by m* be this base packing number. A simple upper bound on m* is given by k* = max{k : ΣiεNfA(i) ≥ kfA(N),?A ? N} where fA(S) = f(AS) ‐ f(A). This upper bound is a natural generalization of the bound for matroids where it is known that m* = k*. For polymatroids, we prove that m* ≥ (1 ? o(1))k*/lnf(N) and give a randomized polynomial time algorithm to find (1 ? o(1))k*/lnf(N) disjoint bases, assuming an oracle for f. We also derandomize the algorithm using minwise independent permutations and give a deterministic algorithm that finds (1 ? ε)k*/lnf(N) disjoint bases. The bound we obtain is almost tight because it is known there are polymatroids for which m* < (1 + o(1))k*/lnf(N). Moreover it is known that unless NP ? DTIME(nlog log n), for any ε > 0, there is no polynomial time algorithm to obtain a (1 + ε)/lnf(N)‐approximation to m*. Our result generalizes and unifies two results in the literature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 2009  相似文献

Let Vi) (resp., V(−Λj)) be a fundamental integrable highest (resp., lowest) weight module of . The tensor product Vi)V(−Λj) is filtered by submodules , n≥0, nij mod 2, where viVi) is the highest vector and is an extremal vector. We show that Fn/Fn+2 is isomorphic to the level 0 extremal weight module V(n1−Λ0)). Using this we give a functional realization of the completion of Vi)V(−Λj) by the filtration (Fn)n≥0. The subspace of Vi)V(−Λj) of -weight m is mapped to a certain space of sequences (Pn,l)n≥0,nijmod2,n−2l=m, whose members Pn,l=Pn,l(X1,…,Xlz1,…,zn) are symmetric polynomials in Xa and symmetric Laurent polynomials in zk, with additional constraints. When the parameter q is specialized to , this construction settles a conjecture which arose in the study of form factors in integrable field theory.  相似文献

We consider the theory of constant rank projective mappings of compact Riemannian manifolds from the global point of view. We study projective immersions and submersions. As an example of the results, letf:(M, g) → (N, g′) be a projective submersion of anm-dimensional Riemannian manifold (M, g) onto an (m−1)-dimensional Riemannian manifold (N, g′). Then (M, g) is locally the Riemannian product of the sheets of two integrable distributions Kerf * and (Kerf *) whenever (M, g) is one of the two following types: (a) a complete manifold with Ric ≥ 0; (b) a compact oriented manifold with Ric ≤ 0. For each natural number m greater than one, and each natural number k less than or equal to m, there exists a root-finding iteration function, Bm(k) defined as the ratio of two determinants that depend on the first mk derivatives of the given function. This infinite family is derived in Kalantari (J. Comput. Appl. Math. 126 (2000) 287–318) and its order of convergence is analyzed in Kalantari (BIT 39 (1999) 96–109). In this paper we give a computational study of the first nine root-finding methods. These include Newton, secant, and Halley methods. Our computational results with polynomials of degree up to 30 reveal that for small degree polynomials Bm(k−1) is more efficient than Bm(k), but as the degree increases, Bm(k) becomes more efficient than Bm(k−1). The most efficient of the nine methods is B4(4), having theoretical order of convergence equal to 1.927. Newton's method which is often viewed as the method of choice is in fact the least efficient method.  相似文献

Let G be a compact p-adic Lie group, with no element of order p, and having a closed normal subgroup H such that G/H is isomorphic to Zp. We prove the existence of a canonical Ore set S* of non-zero divisors in the Iwasawa algebra Λ(G) of G, which seems to be particularly relevant for arithmetic applications. Using localization with respect to S*, we are able to define a characteristic element for every finitely generated Λ(G)-module M which has the property that the quotient of M by its p-primary submodule is finitely generated over the Iwasawa algebra of H. We discuss the evaluation of this characteristic element at Artin representations of G, and its relation to the G-Euler characteristics of the twists of M by such representations. Finally, we illustrate the arithmetic applications of these ideas by formulating a precise version of the main conjecture of Iwasawa theory for an elliptic curve E over Q, without complex multiplication, over the field F generated by the coordinates of all its p-power division points; here p is a prime at least 5 where E has good ordinary reduction, and G is the Galois group of F over Q.  相似文献

We give a direct formulation of the invariant polynomials μGq(n)(, Δi,;, xi,i + 1,) characterizing U(n) tensor operators p, q, …, q, 0, …, 0 in terms of the symmetric functions Sλ known as Schur functions. To this end, we show after the change of variables Δi = γi − δi and xi, i + 1 = δi − δi + 1 thatμGq(n)(,Δi;, xi, i + 1,) becomes an integral linear combination of products of Schur functions Sα(, γi,) · Sβ(, δi,) in the variables {γ1,…, γn} and {δ1,…, δn}, respectively. That is, we give a direct proof that μGq(n)(,Δi,;, xi, i + 1,) is a bisymmetric polynomial with integer coefficients in the variables {γ1,…, γn} and {δ1,…, δn}. By making further use of basic properties of Schur functions such as the Littlewood-Richardson rule, we prove several remarkable new symmetries for the yet more general bisymmetric polynomials μmGq(n)1,…, γn; δ1,…, δm). These new symmetries enable us to give an explicit formula for both μmG1(n)(γ; δ) and 1G2(n)(γ; δ). In addition, we describe both algebraic and numerical integration methods for deriving general polynomial formulas for μmGq(n)(γ; δ).  相似文献
