X‐ray Raman scattering (XRS) provides a bulk‐sensitive method of measuring the extended X‐ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) of soft X‐ray absorption edges. Accurate measurements and data analysis procedures for the determination of XRS‐EXAFS of polycrystalline diamond are described. The contributions of various angular‐momentum components beyond the dipole limit to the atomic background and the EXAFS oscillations are incorporated using self‐consistent real‐space multiple‐scattering calculations. The properly extracted XRS‐EXAFS oscillations are in good agreement with calculations and earlier soft X‐ray EXAFS results. It is shown, however, that under certain conditions multiple‐scattering contributions to XRS‐EXAFS deviate from those in standard EXAFS, leading to noticeable changes in the real‐space signal at higher momentum transfers owing to non‐dipole contributions. These results pave the way for the accurate application of XRS‐EXAFS to previously inaccessible light‐element systems.  相似文献

Time‐resolved X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (TR‐XAS), based on the laser‐pump/X‐ray‐probe method, is powerful in capturing the change of the geometrical and electronic structure of the absorbing atom upon excitation. TR‐XAS data analysis is generally performed on the laser‐on minus laser‐off difference spectrum. Here, a new analysis scheme is presented for the TR‐XAS difference fitting in both the extended X‐ray absorption fine‐structure (EXAFS) and the X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) regions. R‐space EXAFS difference fitting could quickly provide the main quantitative structure change of the first shell. The XANES fitting part introduces a global non‐derivative optimization algorithm and optimizes the local structure change in a flexible way where both the core XAS calculation package and the search method in the fitting shell are changeable. The scheme was applied to the TR‐XAS difference analysis of Fe(phen)3 spin crossover complex and yielded reliable distance change and excitation population.  相似文献

The performance of a four‐element Si drift detector for energy‐dispersive fluorescence‐yield X‐ray absorption fine‐structure measurements is reported, operating at the National Institute of Standards and Technology beamline X23A2 at the National Synchrotron Light Source. The detector can acquire X‐ray absorption fine‐structure spectra with a throughput exceeding 4 × 105 counts per second per detector element (>1.6 × 106 total counts per second summed over all four channels). At this count rate the resolution at 6 keV is approximately 220 eV, which adequately resolves the Mn Kα and Kβ fluorescence lines. Accurate dead‐time correction is demonstrated, and it has been incorporated into the ATHENA data analysis program. To maintain counting efficiency and high signal to background, it is suggested that the incoming count rate should not exceed ~70% of the maximum throughput.  相似文献

X‐ray absorption spectra at the K‐edge of copper have been studied in copper mixed ligand complexes having hydroxamic acid as one of the ligands. The X‐ray absorption spectra have been recorded at BL‐8 Dispersive Extended X‐ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) beamline at the 2.5‐GeV INDUS‐2 Synchrotron Source, RRCAT, Indore, India. The data obtained has been processed using EXAFS data analysis program Athena. The energies of the K absorption edge, chemical shifts, edge‐widths and shifts of the principal absorption maximum in the complexes have been determined and discussed. The chemical shift data have been utilized to estimate effective nuclear charge on the absorbing atom. The normalized EXAFS spectra have been Fourier transformed. The position of the first peak in the Fourier transform gives the value of first shell bond length, which is shorter than the actual bond length as a result of energy dependence of the phase factors in the sine function of the EXAFS equation. This distance is thus the phase‐uncorrected bond length and has also been determined by Lytle, Sayers and Stern's (LSS) graphical method. The results obtained from LSS and the Fourier transformation methods are comparable with each other. The first shell bond length has also been estimated by Lytle's and Levy's methods from the EXAFS data. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Obtaining sub‐10 pm spatial resolution by extended X‐ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy is required in many important fields of research, such as lattice distortion studies in colossal magnetic resistance materials, high‐temperature superconductivity materials etc. However, based on the existing EXAFS data analysis methods, EXAFS has a spatial resolution limit of π/2Δk which is larger than 0.1 Å. In this paper a new data analysis method which can easily achieve sub‐10 pm resolution is introduced. Theoretically, the resolution limit of the method is three times better than that normally available. The method is examined by numerical simulation and experimental data. As a demonstration, the LaFe1–xCrxO3 system (x = 0, 1/3, 2/3) is studied and the structural information of FeO6 octahedral distortion as a function of Cr doping is resolved directly from EXAFS, where a resolution better than 0.074 Å is achieved.  相似文献

The hard X‐ray beamline BL8 at the superconducting asymmetric wiggler at the 1.5 GeV Dortmund Electron Accelerator DELTA is described. This beamline is dedicated to X‐ray studies in the spectral range from ~1 keV to ~25 keV photon energy. The monochromator as well as the other optical components of the beamline are optimized accordingly. The endstation comprises a six‐axis diffractometer that is capable of carrying heavy loads related to non‐ambient sample environments such as, for example, ultrahigh‐vacuum systems, high‐pressure cells or liquid‐helium cryostats. X‐ray absorption spectra from several reference compounds illustrate the performance. Besides transmission measurements, fluorescence detection for dilute sample systems as well as surface‐sensitive reflection‐mode experiments have been performed. The results show that high‐quality EXAFS data can be obtained in the quick‐scanning EXAFS mode within a few seconds of acquisition time, enabling time‐resolved in situ experiments using standard beamline equipment that is permanently available. The performance of the new beamline, especially in terms of the photon flux and energy resolution, is competitive with other insertion‐device beamlines worldwide, and several sophisticated experiments including surface‐sensitive EXAFS experiments are feasible.  相似文献

Lift‐off protocols for thin films for improved extended X‐ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements are presented. Using wet chemical etching of the substrate or the interlayer between the thin film and the substrate, stand‐alone high‐quality micrometer‐thin films are obtained. Protocols for the single‐crystalline semiconductors GeSi, InGaAs, InGaP, InP and GaAs, the amorphous semiconductors GaAs, GeSi and InP and the dielectric materials SiO2 and Si3N4 are presented. The removal of the substrate and the ability to stack the thin films yield benefits for EXAFS experiments in transmission as well as in fluorescence mode. Several cases are presented where this improved sample preparation procedure results in higher‐quality EXAFS data compared with conventional sample preparation methods. This lift‐off procedure can also be advantageous for other experimental techniques (e.g. small‐angle X‐ray scattering) that benefit from removing undesired contributions from the substrate.  相似文献

In this paper results are presented from fluorescence‐yield X‐ray absorption fine‐structure spectroscopy measurements with a new seven‐cell silicon drift detector (SDD) module. The complete module, including an integrated circuit for the detector readout, was developed and realised at DESY utilizing a monolithic seven‐cell SDD. The new detector module is optimized for applications like XAFS which require an energy resolution of ~250–300 eV (FWHM Mn Kα) at high count rates. Measurements during the commissioning phase proved the excellent performance for this type of application.  相似文献

The layout and the characteristics of the hard X‐ray beamline BL10 at the superconducting asymmetric wiggler at the 1.5 GeV Dortmund Electron Accelerator DELTA are described. This beamline is equipped with a Si(111) channel‐cut monochromator and is dedicated to X‐ray studies in the spectral range from ~4 keV to ~16 keV photon energy. There are two different endstations available. While X‐ray absorption studies in different detection modes (transmission, fluorescence, reflectivity) can be performed on a designated table, a six‐axis kappa diffractometer is installed for X‐ray scattering and reflectivity experiments. Different detector set‐ups are integrated into the beamline control software, i.e. gas‐filled ionization chambers, different photodiodes, as well as a Pilatus 2D‐detector are permanently available. The performance of the beamline is illustrated by high‐quality X‐ray absorption spectra from several reference compounds. First applications include temperature‐dependent EXAFS experiments from liquid‐nitrogen temperature in a bath cryostat up to ~660 K by using a dedicated furnace. Besides transmission measurements, fluorescence detection for dilute sample systems as well as surface‐sensitive reflection‐mode experiments are presented.  相似文献

A focusing system based on a polycapillary half‐lens optic has been successfully tested for transmission and fluorescence µ‐X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at a third‐generation bending‐magnet beamline equipped with a non‐fixed‐exit Si(111) monochromator. The vertical positional variations of the X‐ray beam owing to the use of a non‐fixed‐exit monochromator were shown to pose only a limited problem by using the polycapillary optic. The expected height variation for an EXAFS scan around the Fe K‐edge is approximately 200 µm on the lens input side and this was reduced to ~1 µm for the focused beam. Beam sizes (FWHM) of 12–16 µm, transmission efficiencies of 25–45% and intensity gain factors, compared with the non‐focused beam, of about 2000 were obtained in the 7–14 keV energy range for an incoming beam of 0.5 × 2 mm (vertical × horizontal). As a practical application, an As K‐edge µ‐XANES study of cucumber root and hypocotyl was performed to determine the As oxidation state in the different plant parts and to identify a possible metabolic conversion by the plant.  相似文献

A theory program intended for use with extended X‐ray‐absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy and based on the popular FEFF8 is presented. It provides an application programming interface designed to make it easy to integrate high‐quality theory into EXAFS analysis software. This new code is then used to examine the impact of self‐consistent scattering potentials on EXAFS data analysis by methodical testing of theoretical fitting standards against a curated suite of measured EXAFS data. For each data set, the results of a fit are compared using a well characterized structural model and theoretical fitting standards computed both with and without self‐consistent potentials. It is demonstrated that the use of self‐consistent potentials has scant impact on the results of the EXAFS analysis.  相似文献

To obtain accurate distributions of trace elements in biomedical samples nondestructively, the problems on absorption correction and radiation dose are confronted in X‐ray fluorescence computed tomography. In this paper, the absorption‐corrected ordered subsets expectation maximization (AC‐OSEM) algorithm is developed to solve these problems. Simulation results show that the AC‐OSEM‐based X‐ray fluorescence computed tomography is accurate when only the incident X‐ray attenuation map is known and relatively fewer projections are provided. In addition, for the biomedical samples, the simplified approximate expression of the fluorescence attenuation map is practicable. Experiments on the biomedical samples were also carried out to evaluate the applicability of the AC‐OSEM algorithm to soft tissues, which demonstrates that the distribution of the trace element Fe in the pathological liver could be clearly revealed. A method of correction for absorption effects in micro‐beam x‐ray fluorescence analysis is described. A fast, energy‐dispersive, silicon drift detector (SDD) was used to measure the primary x‐ray beam transmitted through the sample. The absorption factors were calculated using the data acquired with the SDD. The possibility of using the coherently, incoherently and multiple scattered primary radiation for determining the mass of individual particles was examined. The proposed methods were validated with the use of NIST K3089 glass micro‐spheres of known composition. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The SUT‐NANOTEC‐SLRI beamline was constructed in 2012 as the flagship of the SUT‐NANOTEC‐SLRI Joint Research Facility for Synchrotron Utilization, co‐established by Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) and Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI). It is an intermediate‐energy X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) beamline at SLRI. The beamline delivers an unfocused monochromatic X‐ray beam of tunable photon energy (1.25–10 keV). The maximum normal incident beam size is 13 mm (width) × 1 mm (height) with a photon flux of 3 × 108 to 2 × 1010 photons s?1 (100 mA)?1 varying across photon energies. Details of the beamline and XAS instrumentation are described. To demonstrate the beamline performance, K‐edge XANES spectra of MgO, Al2O3, S8, FeS, FeSO4, Cu, Cu2O and CuO, and EXAFS spectra of Cu and CuO are presented.  相似文献

Sulfur K‐edge XANES (X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure) spectroscopy is an excellent tool for determining the speciation of sulfur compounds in complex matrices. This paper presents a method to quantitatively determine the kinds of sulfur species in natural samples using internally calibrated reference spectra of model compounds. Owing to significant self‐absorption of formed fluorescence radiation in the sample itself the fluorescence signal displays a non‐linear correlation with the sulfur content over a wide concentration range. Self‐absorption is also a problem at low total absorption of the sample when the sulfur compounds are present as particles. The post‐edge intensity patterns of the sulfur K‐edge XANES spectra vary with the type of sulfur compound, with reducing sulfur compounds often having a higher post‐edge intensity than the oxidized forms. In dilute solutions (less than 0.3–0.5%) it is possible to use sulfur K‐edge XANES reference data for quantitative analysis of the contribution from different species. The results show that it is essential to use an internal calibration system when performing quantitative XANES analysis. Preparation of unknown samples must take both the total absorption and possible presence of self‐absorbing particles into consideration.  相似文献

An innovative scheme to carry out continuous‐scan X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurements similar to quick‐EXAFS mode at the Energy‐Scanning EXAFS beamline BL‐09 at INDUS‐2 synchrotron source (Indore, India), which is generally operated in step‐by‐step scanning mode, is presented. The continuous XAS mode has been implemented by adopting a continuous‐scan scheme of the double‐crystal monochromator and on‐the‐fly measurement of incident and transmitted intensities. This enabled a high signal‐to‐noise ratio to be maintained and the acquisition time was reduced to a few seconds from tens of minutes or hours. The quality of the spectra (signal‐to‐noise level, resolution and energy calibration) was checked by measuring and analysing XAS spectra of standard metal foils. To demonstrate the energy range covered in a single scan, a continuous‐mode XAS spectrum of copper nickel alloy covering both Cu and Ni K‐edges was recorded. The implementation of continuous‐scan XAS mode at BL‐09 would expand the use of this beamline in in situ time‐resolved XAS studies of various important systems of current technological importance. The feasibility of employing this mode of measurement for time‐resolved probing of reaction kinetics has been demonstrated by in situ XAS measurement on the growth of Ag nanoparticles from a solution phase.  相似文献

Muffin‐tin potentials are the standard tool for calculating the potential surface of a cluster of atoms for use in the analysis of extended X‐ray absorption fine‐structure (EXAFS) data. The set of Cartesian coordinates used to define the positions of atoms in the cluster and to calculate the muffin‐tin potentials is commonly also used to enumerate the scattering paths used in the EXAFS data analysis. In this paper, it is shown that these muffin‐tin potentials are sufficiently robust to be used to examine quantitatively contributions to the EXAFS data from scattering geometries not represented in the original cluster.  相似文献

The crystal and local atomic structure of monoclinic ReO2 (α‐ReO2) under hydrostatic pressure up to 1.2 GPa was investigated for the first time using both X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and high‐resolution synchrotron X‐ray powder diffraction and a home‐built B4C anvil pressure cell developed for this purpose. Extended X‐ray absorption fine‐structure (EXAFS) data analysis at pressures from ambient up to 1.2 GPa indicates that there are two distinct Re—Re distances and a distorted ReO6 octahedron in the α‐ReO2 structure. X‐ray diffraction analysis at ambient pressure revealed an unambiguous solution for the crystal structure of the α‐phase, demonstrating a modulation of the Re—Re distances. The relatively small portion of the diffraction pattern accessed in the pressure‐dependent measurements does not allow for a detailed study of the crystal structure of α‐ReO2 under pressure. Nonetheless, a shift and reduction in the (011) Bragg peak intensity between 0.4 and 1.2 GPa is observed, with correlation to a decrease in Re—Re distance modulation, as confirmed by EXAFS analysis in the same pressure range. This behavior reveals that α‐ReO2 is a possible inner pressure gauge for future experiments up to 1.2 GPa.  相似文献

The general matrix theory of the photoelectron/fluorescence excitation in anisotropic multilayer films at the total reflection condition of X‐rays has been developed. In a particular case the theory has been applied to explain the oscillation structure of L2,3 XANES spectra for a SiO2/Si/SiO2/c‐Si sample in the pre‐edge region which has been observed by a sample current technique at glancing angles of synchrotron radiation. Remarkably the phase of the oscillations is reversed by a ~2° angle variation. The observed spectral features are found to be a consequence of waveguide mode creation in the middle layer of strained Si, which changes the radiation field amplitude in the top SiO2 layer. The fit of the data required the correction of the optical constants for Si and SiO2 near the Si L2,3‐edges.  相似文献

The simultaneous and active feedback stabilization of X‐ray beam position and monochromatic beam flux during EXAFS scans at the titanium K‐edge as produced by a double‐crystal monochromator beamline is reported. The feedback is generated using two independent feedback loops using separate beam flux and position measurements. The flux is stabilized using a fast extremum‐searching algorithm that is insensitive to changes in the synchrotron ring current and energy‐dependent monochromator output. Corrections of beam height are made using an innovative transmissive beam position monitor instrument. The efficacy of the feedback stabilization method is demonstrated by comparing the measurements of EXAFS spectra on inhomogeneous diluted Ti‐containing samples with and without feedback applied.  相似文献
