The synchrotron‐based hard X‐ray nanotomography beamline, named 7C X‐ray Nano Imaging (XNI), was recently established at Pohang Light Source II. This beamline was constructed primarily for full‐field imaging of the inner structures of biological and material samples. The beamline normally provides 46 nm resolution for still images and 100 nm resolution for tomographic images, with a 40 µm field of view. Additionally, for large‐scale application, it is capable of a 110 µm field of view with an intermediate resolution. 相似文献

The spectrum of the undulator radiation of beamline P01 at Petra III has been measured after passing a multiple reflection channel‐cut polarimeter. Odd and even harmonics up to the 15th order, as well as Compton peaks which were produced by the high harmonics in the spectrum, could been measured. These additional contributions can have a tremendous influence on the performance of the polarimeter and have to be taken into account for further polarimeter designs. 相似文献

X‐ray Raman scattering (XRS) provides a bulk‐sensitive method of measuring the extended X‐ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) of soft X‐ray absorption edges. Accurate measurements and data analysis procedures for the determination of XRS‐EXAFS of polycrystalline diamond are described. The contributions of various angular‐momentum components beyond the dipole limit to the atomic background and the EXAFS oscillations are incorporated using self‐consistent real‐space multiple‐scattering calculations. The properly extracted XRS‐EXAFS oscillations are in good agreement with calculations and earlier soft X‐ray EXAFS results. It is shown, however, that under certain conditions multiple‐scattering contributions to XRS‐EXAFS deviate from those in standard EXAFS, leading to noticeable changes in the real‐space signal at higher momentum transfers owing to non‐dipole contributions. These results pave the way for the accurate application of XRS‐EXAFS to previously inaccessible light‐element systems. 相似文献

A bent‐crystal spectrometer based on the Rowland circle geometry has been installed and tested on the BM30b/FAME beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility to improve its performances. The energy resolution of the spectrometer allows different kinds of measurements to be performed, including X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering and X‐ray Raman scattering experiments. The simplicity of the experimental device makes it easily implemented on a classical X‐ray absorption beamline. This improvement in the fluorescence detection is of particular importance when the probed element is embedded in a complex and/or heavy matrix, for example in environmental sciences. 相似文献

A new theoretical approach and computational package, FDMX, for general calculations of X‐ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) over an extended energy range within a full‐potential model is presented. The final‐state photoelectron wavefunction is calculated over an energy‐dependent spatial mesh, allowing for a complete representation of all scattering paths. The electronic potentials and corresponding wavefunctions are subject to constraints based on physicality and self‐consistency, allowing for accurate absorption cross sections in the near‐edge region, while higher‐energy results are enabled by the implementation of effective Debye–Waller damping and new implementations of second‐order lifetime broadening. These include inelastic photoelectron scattering and, for the first time, plasmon excitation coupling. This is the first full‐potential package available that can calculate accurate XAFS spectra across a complete energy range within a single framework and without fitted parameters. Example spectra are provided for elemental Sn, rutile TiO2 and the FeO6 octahedron. 相似文献

A new setup and commissioning of transient X‐ray absorption spectroscopy are described, based on the high‐repetition‐rate laser pump/X‐ray probe method, at the 1W2B wiggler beamline at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility. A high‐repetition‐rate and high‐power laser is incorporated into the setup with in‐house‐built avalanche photodiodes as detectors. A simple acquisition scheme was applied to obtain laser‐on and laser‐off signals simultaneously. The capability of picosecond transient X‐ray absorption spectroscopy measurement was demonstrated for a photo‐induced spin‐crossover iron complex in 6 mM solution with 155 kHz repetition rate. 相似文献

The performance of a four‐element Si drift detector for energy‐dispersive fluorescence‐yield X‐ray absorption fine‐structure measurements is reported, operating at the National Institute of Standards and Technology beamline X23A2 at the National Synchrotron Light Source. The detector can acquire X‐ray absorption fine‐structure spectra with a throughput exceeding 4 × 105 counts per second per detector element (>1.6 × 106 total counts per second summed over all four channels). At this count rate the resolution at 6 keV is approximately 220 eV, which adequately resolves the Mn Kα and Kβ fluorescence lines. Accurate dead‐time correction is demonstrated, and it has been incorporated into the ATHENA data analysis program. To maintain counting efficiency and high signal to background, it is suggested that the incoming count rate should not exceed ~70% of the maximum throughput. 相似文献

The coupling and propagation of electromagnetic waves through planar X‐ray waveguides (WG) with vacuum gap and Si claddings are analyzed in detail, starting from the source and ending at the detector. The general case of linearly tapered WGs (i.e. with the entrance aperture different from the exit one) is considered. Different kinds of sources, i.e. synchrotron radiation and laboratory desk‐top sources, have been considered, with the former providing a fully coherent incoming beam and the latter partially coherent beams. It is demonstrated that useful information about the parameters of the WG can be derived, comparing experimental results with computer simulation based on analytical solutions of the Helmholtz equation which take into account the amplitude and phase matching between the standing waves created in front of the WG, and the resonance modes propagating into the WG. 相似文献

X‐ray scattering from a liquid using the spectrum from the undulator fundamental is examined as a function of the bandwidth of the spectrum. The synchrotron‐generated X‐ray spectrum from an undulator is `pink', i.e. quasi‐monochromatic but having a saw‐tooth‐shaped spectrum with a bandwidth from 1 to 15%. It is shown that features in S(q) are slightly shifted and dampened compared with strictly monochromatic data. In return, the gain in intensity is 250–500 which makes pink beams very important for time‐resolved experiments. The undulator spectrum is described by a single exponential with a low‐energy tail. The tail shifts features in the scattering function towards high angles and generates a small reduction in amplitude. The theoretical conclusions are compared with experiments. The r‐resolved Fourier transformed signals are discussed next. Passing from q‐ to r‐space requires a sin‐Fourier transform. The Warren convergence factor is introduced in this calculation to suppress oscillatory artifacts from the finite qM in the data. It is shown that the deformation of r‐resolved signals from the pink spectrum is small compared with that due to the Warren factor. The q‐resolved and the r‐resolved pink signals thus behave very differently. 相似文献

The X‐ray mass attenuation coefficients of silver were measured in the energy range 5–20 keV with an accuracy of 0.01–0.2% on a relative scale down to 5.3 keV, and of 0.09–1.22% on an absolute scale to 5.0 keV. This analysis confirms that with careful choice of foil thickness and careful correction for systematics, especially including harmonic contents at lower energies, the X‐ray attenuation of high‐Z elements can be measured with high accuracy even at low X‐ray energies (<6 keV). This is the first high‐accuracy measurement of X‐ray mass attenuation coefficients of silver in the low energy range, indicating the possibility of obtaining high‐accuracy X‐ray absorption fine structure down to the L1 edge (3.8 keV) of silver. Comparison of results reported here with an earlier data set optimized for higher energies confirms accuracy to within one standard error of each data set collected and analysed using the principles of the X‐ray extended‐range technique (XERT). Comparison with theory shows a slow divergence towards lower energies in this region away from absorption edges. The methodology developed can be used for the XAFS analysis of compounds and solutions to investigate structural features, bonding and coordination chemistry. 相似文献

For spectral imaging of chemical distributions using X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectra, a modified double‐crystal monochromator, a focusing plane mirrors system and a newly developed fluorescence‐type X‐ray beam‐position monitoring and feedback system have been implemented. This major hardware upgrade provides a sufficiently stable X‐ray source during energy scanning of more than hundreds of eV for acquisition of reliable XANES spectra in two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional images. In recent pilot studies discussed in this paper, heavy‐metal uptake by plant roots in vivo and iron's phase distribution in the lithium–iron–phosphate cathode of a lithium‐ion battery have been imaged. Also, the spatial resolution of computed tomography has been improved from 70 nm to 55 nm by means of run‐out correction and application of a reconstruction algorithm. 相似文献

The majority of the beamlines at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source Laboratory (LNLS) use radiation produced in the storage‐ring bending magnets and are therefore currently limited in the flux that can be used in the harder part of the X‐ray spectrum (above ~10 keV). A 4 T superconducting multipolar wiggler (SCW) was recently installed at LNLS in order to improve the photon flux above 10 keV and fulfill the demands set by the materials science community. A new multi‐purpose beamline was then installed at the LNLS using the SCW as a photon source. The XDS is a flexible beamline operating in the energy range between 5 and 30 keV, designed to perform experiments using absorption, diffraction and scattering techniques. Most of the work performed at the XDS beamline concentrates on X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at energies above 18 keV and high‐resolution diffraction experiments. More recently, new setups and photon‐hungry experiments such as total X‐ray scattering, X‐ray diffraction under high pressures, resonant X‐ray emission spectroscopy, among others, have started to become routine at XDS. Here, the XDS beamline characteristics, performance and a few new experimental possibilities are described. 相似文献

Simulations of X‐ray diffraction of shock‐compressed single‐crystal tantalum with synchrotron undulator sources 下载免费PDF全文
Polychromatic synchrotron undulator X‐ray sources are useful for ultrafast single‐crystal diffraction under shock compression. Here, simulations of X‐ray diffraction of shock‐compressed single‐crystal tantalum with realistic undulator sources are reported, based on large‐scale molecular dynamics simulations. Purely elastic deformation, elastic–plastic two‐wave structure, and severe plastic deformation under different impact velocities are explored, as well as an edge release case. Transmission‐mode diffraction simulations consider crystallographic orientation, loading direction, incident beam direction, X‐ray spectrum bandwidth and realistic detector size. Diffraction patterns and reciprocal space nodes are obtained from atomic configurations for different loading (elastic and plastic) and detection conditions, and interpretation of the diffraction patterns is discussed. 相似文献

Using the scanning transmission X‐ray microscope at BESSY II, colloidal structures from a Chernozem soil have been studied with a spatial resolution around 60 nm and a spectral resolution of 1700 at the K‐absorption edge of carbon. Elemental mapping has been used to determine the distribution of organic matter within the colloidal structures. Spectra have been extracted from image stacks to obtain information about the chemical state. For the analysis of the latter, principal component analysis and cluster analysis have been applied. It was possible, for example, to discriminate clay particles against organic components. 相似文献

X‐Treme is a soft X‐ray beamline recently built in the Swiss Light Source at the Paul Scherrer Institut in collaboration with École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. The beamline is dedicated to polarization‐dependent X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at high magnetic fields and low temperature. The source is an elliptically polarizing undulator. The end‐station has a superconducting 7 T–2 T vector magnet, with sample temperature down to 2 K and is equipped with an in situ sample preparation system for surface science. The beamline commissioning measurements, which show a resolving power of 8000 and a maximum flux at the sample of 4.7 × 1012 photons s?1, are presented. Scientific examples showing X‐ray magnetic circular and X‐ray magnetic linear dichroism measurements are also presented. 相似文献

Picosecond‐resolved X‐ray absorption spectroscopy at low signal contrast using a hard X‐ray streak camera 下载免费PDF全文
Bernhard W. Adams Christoph Rose‐Petruck Yishuo Jiao 《Journal of synchrotron radiation》2015,22(4):1022-1029
A picosecond‐resolving hard‐X‐ray streak camera has been in operation for several years at Sector 7 of the Advanced Photon Source (APS). Several upgrades have been implemented over the past few years to optimize integration into the beamline, reduce the timing jitter, and improve the signal‐to‐noise ratio. These include the development of X‐ray optics for focusing the X‐rays into the sample and the entrance slit of the streak camera, and measures to minimize the amount of laser light needed to generate the deflection‐voltage ramp. For the latter, the photoconductive switch generating the deflection ramp was replaced with microwave power electronics. With these, the streak camera operates routinely at 88 MHz repetition rate, thus making it compatible with all of the APS fill patterns including use of all the X‐rays in the 324‐bunch mode. Sample data are shown to demonstrate the performance. 相似文献

The combination of energy dispersive X‐ray fluorescence (ED‐XRF) and synchrotron X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) provides the detailed composition of fine‐paste ware (FPW) kendis, dated back to 13th–14th century maritime Southeast Asia. Sources of clay and production sites were classified according to Al2O3, SiO2, α‐Fe2O3 and γ‐Fe2O3 as well as trace elements. The similarities based on these components provided another evidence of a trade route between Kota Cina in North Sumatra of Indonesia and Kok Moh on Satingphra Peninsula, a well‐known production area in present‐day Thailand. In additions, the uniquely large contribution of α‐Fe2O3 in XANES spectra suggests that Nakhon Si Thammarat province of Thailand could also be one of FPW production areas in maritime Southeast Asia. Typical X‐ray diffraction measurements are made by moving a detector to discrete positions in space and then measuring the signal at each stationary position. This step‐scanning method can be time‐consuming, and may induce vibrations in the measurement system when the motors are accelerated and decelerated at each position. Furthermore, diffraction information between the data points may be missed unless a fine step‐scanning is used, which further increases the total measurement time. To utilize beam time efficiently, the motor acceleration and deceleration time should be minimized, and the signal‐to‐noise ratio should be maximized. To accomplish this, an integrated continuous‐scan system was developed at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL). The continuous‐scan system uses an in‐house integrated motor controller system and counter/timer electronics. SPEC software is used to control both the hardware and data acquisition systems. The time efficiency and repeatability of the continuous‐scan system were tested using X‐ray diffraction from a ZnO powder and compared with the step‐scan technique. Advantages and limitations of the continuous‐scan system and a demonstration of variable‐velocity continuous scan are discussed. 相似文献

Substructure and phase composition of silicon suboxide films containing silicon nanocrystals and implanted with carbon have been investigated by means of the X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure technique with the use of synchrotron radiation. It is shown that formation of silicon nanocrystals in the films' depth (more than 60 nm) and their following transformation into silicon carbide nanocrystals leads to abnormal behaviour of the X‐ray absorption spectra in the elementary silicon absorption‐edge energy region (100–104 eV) or in the silicon oxide absorption‐edge energy region (104–110 eV). This abnormal behaviour is connected to X‐ray elastic backscattering on silicon or silicon carbide nanocrystals located in the silicon oxide films depth. 相似文献

Tris‐amidoximate uranyl complexes via η2 binding mode coordinated in aqueous solution shown by X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory methods 下载免费PDF全文

The present study sheds some light on the long‐standing debate concerning the coordination properties between uranyl ions and the amidoxime ligand, which is a key ingredient for achieving efficient extraction of uranium. Using X‐ray absorption fine structure combined with theoretical simulation methods, the binding mode and bonding nature of a uranyl–amidoxime complex in aqueous solution were determined for the first time. The results show that in a highly concentrated amidoxime solution the preferred binding mode between UO22+ and the amidoxime ligand is η2 coordination with tris‐amidoximate species. In such a uranyl–amidoximate complex with η2 binding motif, strong covalent interaction and orbital hybridization between U 5f/6d and (N, O) 2p should be responsible for the excellent binding ability of the amidoximate ligand to uranyl. The study was performed directly in aqueous solution to avoid the possible binding mode differences caused by crystallization of a single‐crystal sample. This work also is an example of the simultaneous study of local structure and electronic structure in solution systems using combined diagnostic tools. 相似文献
