We study purely nonlocal Hamiltonian structures for systems of hydrodynamic type. In the case of a semi-Hamiltonian system, we show that such structures are related to quadratic expansions of the diagonal metrics naturally associated with the system.  相似文献

Four-component Hamiltonian systems of hydrodynamic type induce, through the Haantjes tensor, a Lie algebra structure on tangent planes in the space of dependent variables. We show that this Lie algebra is either reductive or solvable with a nilpotent three-dimensional subalgebra. We demonstrate how the precise Lie algebraic structure is determined by the Hamiltonian structure of the system. An application to perturbations of the Benney system is presented.  相似文献

Symmetry constraints for (2+1)-dimensional dispersionless integrable equations are considered. It is demonstrated that they naturally lead to certain systems of hydrodynamic type which arise within the reduction method. One also easily obtains an associated complex curve (Sato function) and corresponding generating equations. Dispersionless KP and 2DTL hierarchy are considered as illustrative examples.  相似文献

We develop a theory of integrable dispersive deformations of 2+1 dimensional Hamiltonian systems of hydrodynamic type following the scheme proposed by Dubrovin and his collaborators in 1+1 dimensions. Our results show that the multi-dimensional situation is far more rigid, and generic Hamiltonians are not deformable. As an illustration we discuss a particular class of two-component Hamiltonian systems, establishing the triviality of first order deformations and classifying Hamiltonians possessing nontrivial deformations of the second order.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the attractive interaction measured between like-charged colloidal spheres near a wall can be accounted for by a nonequilibrium hydrodynamic effect. We present both analytical results and Brownian dynamics simulations which quantitatively capture the one-wall experiments of Larsen and Grier [Nature (London) 385, 230 (1997)], using a single unmeasured parameter.  相似文献

We study experimentally and theoretically the hydrodynamic coupling between Brownian colloidal particles diffusing along a linear channel. The quasi-one-dimensional confinement, unlike other constrained geometries, leads to a sharply screened interaction. Consequently, particles move in concert only when their mutual distance is smaller than the channel width, and two-body interactions remain dominant up to high particle densities. The coupling in a cylindrical channel is predicted to reverse sign at a certain distance, yet this unusual effect is too small to be currently detectable.  相似文献

The problem of fluctuations in two-dimensional hydrodynamic systems under nonequilibrium conditions due to external forces is studied on the example of a simple model. The effective action is given; this action makes it possible to construct a perturbation series to calculate fluctuation effects in such systems. Renormalizability of this action with an infinite number of vertices is proved; renormalization group equations are derived. A number of solutions of these equations are found; the asymptotic behaviour of the solution is considered in the limit of large logarithms.  相似文献

In suspensions with charged particles, electrostatic forces and hydrodynamic interactions are both important to describe the system. We study different models of hydrodynamic interaction for monopolarly charged particles in a non-polar liquid. In this case, there is no screening of the Coulomb repulsion, so the repulsion between all pairs must be taken into account. The particles are expected to drift away from each other, however at a lower rate when hydrodynamic interaction between the particles is taken into account. Existing, frequently used models of hydrodynamic interactions tend to overestimate the slowing down of the charged particles, even to the extent that the particles effectively attract each other. This is demonstrated for some selected particle setups. We find that these anomalies even occur in dilute systems, if they contain sufficiently many particles. We explain why these anomalies can be avoided by an approach, in which the superposition of interactions is done in the friction tensor instead of the mobility tensor.  相似文献

The behavior of the bulk two-point correlation function G(;T| d ) in d-dimensional system with van der Waals type interactions is investigated and its consequences on the finite-size scaling properties of the susceptibility in such finite systems with periodic boundary conditions is discussed within mean-spherical model which is an example of Ornstein and Zernike type theory. The interaction is supposed to decay at large distances r as r - (d + σ), with 2 < d < 4, 2 < σ < 4 and d + σ≤6. It is shown that G(;T| d ) decays as r - (d - 2) for 1 ≪r≪ξ, exponentially for ξ≪rr *, where r * = (σ - 2)ξlnξ, and again in a power law as r - (d + σ) for rr *. Dynamic processes in dispersions of charged spherical particles are of importance both in fundamental science, and in technical and bio-medical applications. There exists a large variety of charged-particles systems, ranging from nanometer-sized electrolyte ions to micron-sized charge-stabilized colloids. We review recent advances in theoretical methods for the calculation of linear transport coefficients in concentrated particulate systems, with the focus on hydrodynamic interactions and electrokinetic effects. Considered transport properties are the dispersion viscosity, self- and collective diffusion coefficients, sedimentation coefficients, and electrophoretic mobilities and conductivities of ionic particle species in an external electric field. Advances by our group are also discussed, including a novel mode-coupling-theory method for conduction-diffusion and viscoelastic properties of strong electrolyte solutions. Furthermore, results are presented for dispersions of solvent-permeable particles, and particles with non-zero hydrodynamic surface slip. The concentration-dependent swelling of ionic microgels is discussed, as well as a far-reaching dynamic scaling behavior relating colloidal long- to short-time dynamics.  相似文献

Hydrodynamic stability plays a crucial role for many applications. Existing approaches focus on the dependence of the stability properties on control parameters such as the Reynolds or the Rayleigh number. In this paper we propose a numerical method which aims at solving shape optimization problems in the context of hydrodynamic stability. The considered approach allows to guarantee hydrodynamic stability by modifying parts of the underlying geometry within a certain flow regime. This leads to a formulation of a shape optimization problem with constraints on the eigenvalues related to the linearized Navier–Stokes equations. In that context the eigenvalue problem is generally non-symmetric and may involve complex eigenvalues. To validate the proposed numerical approach we consider the flow around a body in a channel. The shape of the body is parameterized and can be changed by means of a discrete number of design variables. It is our aim to find a design which minimizes the drag force and ensures at the same time hydrodynamic stability while keeping the volume of the body constant. The numerical results show that a transition from an unstable design to a stable one is attainable by considering an adequate change of the body shape. The resulting bodies are long and flat which corresponds to common intuition.  相似文献
