With the vibrating reed technique we have measured the depinning lines (DLs) of vortices in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and Y(6%Gd)Ba2Cu3O6.83 single crystals for magnetic fields parallel to the [CuO2] planes. The DLs of the two compounds have similar slopes for reduced temperaturest>0.98 and magnetic fieldsB<0.1 T. AtB0.1 T we observe a pronounced change in the slope of the DL of the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 sample which may indicate a crossover from a three to a two dimensional superconductor.  相似文献

The generation of a microwave second harmonic by a YBCO single crystal in a dc magnetic field was studied. We found that the signal existed only when there was a direct screening current. As a result, the pinning current as a function of magnetic field can be derived directly from the second harmonic intensity versus the magnetic field. The experimental data were interpreted in terms of a generalized model of the critical state taking into account diffusion of vortices and the absence of a barrier stopping vortices from leaving the sample. We have shown that, in a decreasing dc magnetic field, the current density is considerably lower than both the critical and screening current densities in an increasing dc field. Our experiments indicate that vortices are not the sources of radiation at the double frequency. A relation between the mechanism of harmonic generation in the Meissner phase and modulation of the order parameter by the microwave magnetic field (Ginzburg-Landau nonlinearity) is discussed. It is remarkable that, by measuring the second harmonic intensity in the Meissner state versus temperature, one can obtain the magnetic field penetration depth as a function of temperature with fairly good accuracy. Magnetization measurements in the basal plane as a function of field and temperature, on a single crystal of terbium, between the temperatures 221 K and 229 K are described. An attempt is made to interpret the results in terms of the theory of Kitano et al. Whereas this theory deals rather deftly with the results on dysprosium which is magnetically a very similar metal it fails in many respects on terbium. It would appear that the interactions between atoms in adjacent layers are more complex than theory has thus far assumed.  相似文献

An emission band with FWHM of 2.7 meV has been observed at 2.8002 eV. Its emission intensity is proportional to the 1.2 power of the excitation intensity. Excitation spectrum and selective excitation spectrum do not show any additional spectral structure. It is proposed that the origin of this emission is the scattering of excitons by other free particles at a structural defect with slightly lower potential for free particles and free excitons.  相似文献

An FeBO3 single crystal was studied from 291 K up to the Neel temperature T(N) = 348.35 K by depth selective conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy in ultrahigh vacuum (10(-9) mbar). A new magnetic near-surface phase was found. Its thickness D diverges on approaching T(N) and gives a critical exponent for the correlation length of nu = 0.59(4). The phase boundary between the bulk and near-surface phase could be identified.  相似文献

The second magnetization harmonic was studied for a moderately doped Nd0.77Ba0.23MnO3 neodymium manganite single crystal in parallel constant and harmonic magnetic fields in the critical paramagnetic region. According to the neutron and X-ray diffraction data, the crystal was crystallographically single-phase and had a pseudocubic structure both at room temperature and below the Curie point T C=124.1 K. Although the specific resistance of this compound had a singularity near T C and exhibited giant magnetoresistance, it remained an insulator in the ferromagnetic state. Nonlinear response measurements in the T C<T<T *≈146.7 K paramagnetic region were indicative of the existence of two magnetic phases. Above T *, the crystal was magnetically single-phase, and its critical behavior was well described by dynamical similarity theory for isotropic 3D ferromagnets. The unexpected appearance of a new magnetic phase in the structurally homogeneous crystal was discussed based on phase separation ideas; such a phase separation could occur in moderately doped cubic manganites experiencing orbital ordering.  相似文献

We propose a model of magnetically modulated microwave absorption (MMMA) in twin boundaries of high-temperature superconductors which assumes formation of superconducting current loops closed by two Josephson junctions. Fabrication details of air-bridged Kerr nonlinear polymer photonic crystal slab structures are presented.Both the two-dimensional photonic crystal slab and the one-dimensional nanobeam structures are fabricated using direct focused ion beam etching and subsequent wet chemical etching.The scanning electron microscopy images show the uniformity and homogeneity of the cylindrical air holes.The optical measurement in the near-infrared region is implemented using the tapered fiber coupling method,and the results agree with the numerical calculations by using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method.  相似文献

In the current investigation,L-proline cadmium chloride monohydrate(LPCC) single crystal is grown by a slow solvent evaporation technique to identify its credibility for nonlinear optical device applications.The constituent elements of LPCC crystal are determined by the energy dispersive spectroscopic(EDS) technique.The single crystal x-ray diffraction technique is used to determine the structural dimensions of LPCC crystal.The UV-visible studies are carried out within a wavelength range of 200 nm–1100 nm to determine the optical transmittance of LPCC crystal.The linear optical parameters of LPCC crystal are evaluated using the transmittance data to discuss its importance for distinct optical devices.The Nd:YAG laser assisted Kurtz–Perry test is carried out to determine the enhancement in second harmonic generation efficiency of LPCC crystal with reference to KDP crystal.The Z-scan technique is employed to assess the third order nonlinear optical(TONLO) properties of LPCC crystal at 632.8 nm.The Z-scan data are utilized to evaluate the TONLO refraction,absorption and susceptibility of LPCC crystal.The color oriented luminescence behavior of LPCC crystal is investigated within a spectral range of 350 nm–700 nm.The dependence of dielectric constant and dielectric loss on temperature and frequency is evaluated through the dielectric measurement studies.  相似文献

Stress-relaxation measurements have been conducted over the temperature range 15°–105°C on mats of single crystals of two linear polyethylene fractions. The single crystals were grown isothermally at several different temperatures. The relaxation modulus was observed to be strain dependent, indicating that the single crystal mats exhibited nonlinearity.

In spite of this appearance of nonlinearity, it was found possible, when the relaxation modulus was extrapolated to zero strain by an appropriate method, to obtain correct relaxation spectra for the mats of single crystals prepared by isothermal crystallization. This spectrum was then used to calculate the dynamic viscoelastic functions and, for the unannealed sample crystallized at 80°C, good agreement was found between experimental results and calculated ones. Two annealed samples showed multiple absorptions and, under these circumstances, strict application of the method of reduced variables for time and temperature was impractical.

The effect of molecular weight on the intensity of the relaxation spectrum was investigated. It was found that the single crystal with the higher molecular weight showed an increased spectrum intensity.

Observations were also made of the effect of increased lamellar thickness on both the relaxation spectra and the dynamic complex moduli and the results obtained on the fractions studied were compared with prior studies in whole polymer.  相似文献

Zinc selenide is characterized by very low infrared absorption and a high threshold for optical damage making its use as high power laser windows almost universal. Since the meterial is a member of the 43 m (zinc-blende) crystal class, it possesses a second order electric susceptibility tensor. We have measured the absolute value of the tensor components by the method of second harmonic generation of 10.6 micrometer radiation using a properly oriented single crystal wedge. Furthermore, the coherence length for the second harmonic process was accurately determined for various CO2 laser lines. The results of the susceptibility measurement are compared to the results of Miller's phenomenological analysis while the coherence length measurements are compared to that quality derived from previously available refractive index data.  相似文献

A double monochromator is developed and manufactured on the basis of an acousto-optic filter made of a potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) single crystal. The device has an operating range of 260–540 nm and improved optical characteristics: high aperture ratio (an angular aperture of 2° and a linear aperture of 6.5x15 mm), high polarization contrast (~108), and low level of transmission sidelobes (~103). The spectral resolution of the monochromator at the edges of the operating range is 0.5 and 3 nm, respectively. The control frequency band is 60–150 MHz. Experimentally, it is shown that, for sound beams with equivalent geometric parameters, the diffraction efficiency provided by the KDP-based acousto-optic filter is an order of magnitude higher than that obtained with a noncollinear acousto-optic filter fabricated on the basis of crystalline quartz.  相似文献

A model of the dielectric function of a surface layer formed under the mechanical treatment of the crystal surface is considered in the range of the lattice optical vibrations. An approach is proposed based on the continuous distribution of the dipole-active modes in order to take into account the dislocation effect. It is demonstrated that the model used allows one to describe satisfactorily the decrease in the reflectivity of polished SiC6H samples in the vicinity of the frequency of the transverse optical phonon.  相似文献

Single‐crystal Raman and polycrystalline thin‐film infrared measurements have been obtained for the polar organic nonlinear optical material 2‐(α‐methylbenzylamino)‐5‐nitropyridine (MBANP). For comparison, thin‐film polycrystalline infrared measurements were also made on 2‐(α‐methylbenzylamino)‐3,5‐dinitropyridine (MBADNP). The long wavelength electronic absorption was measured in several solvents and as a thin solid film. The Raman spectra are dominated by three intense bands attributed to vibrations of the ring, the NO2 substituent, and the N H bond. The most intense scattering and absorption arose from the αbb component of the polarisability tensor. This implies that the most significant contribution to the transition polarisability arises from the electronic transition near 383 nm, polarised along the b‐axis of the crystal. The strongest bands in the infrared spectra are also associated with the same three bands, consistent with the predictions of the effective conjugation coordinate (ECC) theory, implying efficient electron–phonon coupling (or electronic delocalisation) in the conjugated system. DFT calculations of vibrational wavenumbers and eigenvectors were used to assign relevant vibrational features and to derive useful information about the molecular structure. This single‐crystal material is also a strong candidate for an efficient laser Raman converter with a large wavenumber shift of 3404 cm−1 and a high damage threshold. Sodium bitartrate monohydrate (SBTMH) a new organometallic nonlinear optical material, with molecular formula, [C4H5NaO6 · H2O] has been synthesized at ambient temperature. Spectral, thermal and optical techniques have been employed to characterize the new material. Bulk single crystals of size 13 × 4 × 4 mm3 of SBTMH have been grown by slow cooling method. The unit cell parameters of the grown crystal were determined by single crystal XRD. Functional groups present in the sample were identified by FTIR spectral analysis. Thermal stability of SBTMH was determined using TGA/DTA. The grown crystals exhibit nonlinear properties. The dielectric response of the crystal with varying frequencies was studied. The optical transparency range and the lower cut-off wavelength of the material were identified from the UV–vis–NIR absorption spectrum.  相似文献

We investigate efficient fourth-harmonic generation in a single two-dimensional (2D) quadratically nonlinear photonic crystal. We propose a novel parametric process that starts with phase-matched generation of a pair of symmetric second-harmonic waves, which then interact to produce a fourth-harmonic wave that is collinear to the fundamental. We show that this process is more efficient than conventional fourth-harmonic-generation schemes by a factor that reaches 4 at low intensities and discuss how to design and optimize the nonlinear 2D photonic crystals that are implemented in LiNbO(3) and LiTaO(3) .  相似文献

We detected the second-order nonlinear response from single isolated spheres comprised from a centrosymmetric material but covered by a layer of a material with strong second-order nonlinear properties and isolated from an ensemble by the optical trapping technique. We show that when large size parameter spheres are used, the measured second-harmonic efficiency deviates strongly from the prediction of the nonlinear Rayleigh scattering theory. Our results are in very good agreement with the predictions from the exact nonlinear Mie scattering theory.  相似文献
