Neutron spectra were measured by the time of flight method using a rotating disk chopper system in the JRR-3M prompt gamma ray analysis system. Effective g-factors for non-1/v elements such as Cd, Sm and Gd were calculated from the measured neutron spectra and the neutron cross section data, and they was used for correcting the k 0-factors. The resulting k 0-factors for the cold and thermal neutron beams agreed within 10%. Furthermore, the prompt gamma ray emission probabilities of Cd, Sm and Gd were derived from the corrected k 0-factors using other relevant physical constants.  相似文献

Neutron spectrum correction has been attempted for the k0-factors of the non-1/v elements which are affected neutron spectrum difference. Effective g-factors and Westcott g-factors, which are neutron spectrum correction factors obtained from an actual neutron spectrum and the Maxwellian distribution, respectively, for the non-1/v elements were calculated using their neutron cross section data of JENDEL-3.2. The neutron spectrum correction was made for the measured k0-factors of the non-1/v elements such as Cd, Sm and Gd with the cold and thermal guided neutron beams of JRR-3M using the g-factors. The corrected k0-factors between the cold and thermal neutron beams using both g-factors for both neutron beams agreed well for Cd. However, 9 to 44% deviations have been found for Sm and Gd, respectively.  相似文献

Recommended k 0-factors for gamma-lines of 24 elements useful for neutron-induced prompt gamma-ray analysis (PGA) and which are not influenced by neutron spectrum differences were obtained from the k 0-factors measured with the cold and thermal neutron guided beams of JRR-3M, by statistical calculation. The prompt gamma-ray emission probabilities were derived from the recommended k 0-factors using atomic weight, isotopic abundance and thermal neutron capture cross section all related to the k 0-factors, for which one can obtain accurate data. The derived gamma-ray emission probabilities for the light elements (H to Ca) agreed well within ±10% with those of the ENSDF values, which reflect recent data while the agreement for heavy elements (Ti to Pb) was ±40% with those of the ENSDF, which are still composed of old data. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The Westcott formalism was developed to accurately describe the activation of nuclides whose neutron capture cross-sections do not follow the 1/v-law and it was incorporated in the k 0-method about 20 years ago. However, its implementation in the original fashion is not easy, requiring the use of a different formalism for the non-1/v nuclides, with a g(T n) factor for the thermal neutron activation and an s 0 factor for epithermal activation, the measurement of the neutron spectral index of the irradiation channel and the irradiation of a temperature monitor with each batch of samples as well. In this work we investigated the accuracy of maintaining the simpler formula of the Høgdahl convention for all nuclides and introducing the g(T n) factor for the thermal neutron activation for non-1/v nuclides. The epithermal activation is calculated using a Q 0-value estimated from the measured s 0-value for non-1/v nuclides. This new approach has been shown, by calculations with the parameters of the neutron spectra of five irradiation channels, not to give a significant loss of accuracy relative to the Westcott formalism.  相似文献

Summary The new PGAA facility using diffracted neutron beam was developed in Korea. The basic characteristics of the facility were studied in detail. A general formalism of the k0 factor as extended to non-1/v absorber and arbitrary neutron spectrum was discussed and the actual data for Cd, Sm, Eu, Gd have been measured and determined successfully owing to the simple nature of the diffracted neutron spectrum. The k0 factors for B, N, Si, P, S and Cl were also determined and showed consistent results with previously reported ones. At an early stage, feasibility of boron concentration analysis and measurement of thermal neutron capture cross sections has been studied. The PGAA facility is now open to users. A considerable amount of beam time is already dedicated to studies on the elemental analysis.  相似文献

Neutron activation analysis using the single comparator method or the k 0 method may be less accurate in the cases of non-1/v nuclides if irradiations are done at varying reactor temperatures. We propose a method to correct this effect, using available reactor moderator temperature readings. It was verified by the irradiation of two non-1/v nuclides, 176Lu and 151Eu. Irradiations were carried out in two irradiation sites at two reactor powers and at estimated neutron temperatures varying from 18 to 46 °C. In all cases the measured activities showed a variation with temperature consistent with published tables of the variation of the Westcott g-factor. The method should be accurate to 1% for most small reactors and eliminates the need to irradiate temperature monitors.  相似文献

In order to determine multiple elements by k 0 standardization-based neutron induced prompt gamma-ray analysis (PGA), measurements and evaluation of k 0 factors for the elements have been performed. The k 0 factors using Cl as a comparator for 27 elements, which are effective for the analysis by PGA, were measured with precision almost less than 3% using the cold and thermal guided neutron beams at JRR-3M. The accuracy of the k 0 factors were better than 10% except for the non-1/v elements of Cd and Sm. Neutron spectrum correction is necessary for common use of k 0 factors of the non-1/v elements.  相似文献

The guided thermal neutron beam at 100 MW Dhruva research reactor facility of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was used to carry out prompt gamma-ray neutron activation analysis (PGNAA). The prompt k 0-factors have been determined for the isotopes of the elements H, B, K, Co, Cu, Ca, Ti, Cr, Cd, Ba, Hg and Gd with respect to 1951 keV gamma-line of 36Cl. The prompt k 0-factors for H, Cl and Cu were also measured with respect to the 1381 keV gamma-line of 49Ti. Different samples like NH4Cl, Ti metal, cobalt chloride and other stoichiometric compounds and pure metals were used for this purpose. Prompt gamma-rays were accumulated using a 22% HPGe detector connected to a PC based 8k MCA in single mode counting. The energy calibration in the range of 100–8500 keV was carried out using gamma-rays from 152Eu and 60Co, and the prompt gamma-rays from 36Cl whereas the absolute detection efficiency for this energy range was determined using 152Eu and prompt gamma-rays from 36Cl and 49Ti.  相似文献

The neutron spectra of one outer (#10) and two inner (#2 and #3) sites of the Dalhousie University SLOWPOKE-2 reactor (DUSR) have been calibrated for the k 0-based neutron activation analysis (k 0-NAA). The parameters determined include the cadmium ratio (R Cd), epithermal neutron flux shape factor (), subcadmium-to-epithermal neutron flux ratio (f), thermal-to-fast neutron flux ratio (f F), modified spectral index r()(Tn/T0)1/2, Westcott g Lu(T n)-factor, and absolute neutron temperature (T n). The a-values of -0.0098±0.0045 and -0.0425±0.0047 and -0.0422±0.0053 and f-values of 57.1±2.2 and 18.8±0.4 and 18.9±0.4 were obtained for the sites #10, #2 and #3, respectively. The modified spectral index (MSI), g Lu(T n)-factor, and T n have been determined for the handling of non 1/v (n,) reactions. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by analyzing reference materials.  相似文献

Exploration and modification of data for k 0-PGAA (prompt γ-ray activation analysis) values used as standards for k 0 standardization are needed. An integrated system has been installed and calibrated in Hot Laboratories Center for PGAA, using 252Cf isotopic neutron source with neutron flux of 6.16E8 n/cms. The prompt k 0-factors of about 12 elements were determined versus the 1951.1 keV γ-ray of the 35Cl, as well as analyzing crude oil and oil product samples. The concentrations of the elements in crude oil H, B, Mg, Al, Na, Si, P, S, Cl, V and Cd were 1.18E5, 0.084, 5.48E2, 8.45E2 4.88E2, 1.62E2, 3.72E2, 8.2, 144.3, 393 and 209.2 ppm while in oil product samples were 1.32E5, 5.87, 4.56E2, 4.22E2, 7.16E3, 699, 157, 8.74, 492.3, 61 and 198.2 ppm. Validation of the k 0-PGAA was applied in analyzing standard IAEA reference material (soil-7) which give good agreement with the literature data. The 252Cf neutron beam in radiation position was characterized by the cadmium-ratio method, and found that the cadmium ratio (f), was 160.  相似文献

Summary The prompt k0,H factors for B, N, Si, P, S and Cl were determined relative to the 2223.25 keV gamma-line from the 1H(n,γ) reaction. The measurements were performed at the SNU-KAERI Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis facility, of which the background was greatly reduced recently by upgrading the detection system to a Compton suppressed g-ray spectrometer with a BGO/NaI(Tl) guard detector and by improving the shield geometry. From the measured prompt k0,H factors, the partial γ-ray production cross sections were determined using the latest cross section for H. The measured prompt k0,H factors were tabulated and compared with the other reported data.  相似文献

A summary of k 0-based R&D work on neutron activation analysis (NAA), internal mono standard NAA (IM-NAA) and prompt gamma-ray NAA (PGNAA) is presented. The k 0-based NAA was standardized by characterizing irradiation sites of research reactors, validated using reference materials and applied to samples of different origin. Recently IM-NAA method was developed, validated for small and large size samples and applied for the analysis of large size as well as non-standard geometry samples. Studies on PGNAA included characterization of neutron beam, determinations of detection efficiency and prompt k 0-factors, and analytical applications.  相似文献

K 0-PGAA (prompt gamma activation analysis) has been used to estimate boron and cadmium contents in industrial and environmental materials from some different local areas as well as, samples from different locations in Burullus and Qarun Lakes. A high efficiency Compton background suppression gamma-ray spectrometry by anti-coincidence counting with a NaI(Tl) shield around a central HPGe detector for in beam PGAA using a 252Cf neutron source has been calibrated and described in this paper. The facility is principally designed for measurement of the prompt gamma-ray spectra obtained due to thermal neutron capture using 1951.14 keV gamma line of 35Cl as the internal mono-standard comparator. A calibration curves were developed in which a set of boron and cadmium standards were tested and the count rate to boron and cadmium mass curves were determined. This set of boron and cadmium measurements was compared with a method for determining composition using K 0-PGAA. Conventional prompt neutrons capture Gamma-ray results were in a good agreement with the data obtained by K 0-PGAA method. Detection limits and self-shielding study are presented.  相似文献

The α-factor is a measure of the epithermal neutron flux deviation from the ideal distribution 1/E, where E is neutron energy. It defends on the position of the irradiation channel in reactor. A determination method of the α-factors in irradiation channels of Dalat reactor is presented by fitting the epithermal neutron spectrum obtained from the calculation using MCNP code. The fitting α-values were compared to those by experiment used the “Cd-ratio” method with monitors 197Au–94Zr and 197Au–64Zn. It shows that the α-values calculated from neutron spectra agree well with experimental ones. The difference between both data is about 6%.  相似文献

The Portuguese Research Reactor (RPI) is a 1 MW swimming pool type reactor, operating since the early 1960s. The fuel is MTR type, with flat plates of U-Al alloy enriched to 93% in 235U. As the core configuration changed in April 2000, it became essential to characterise the neutron field in the most useful irradiation positions of RPI, in order to guarantee the accuracy in the application of k 0-neutron activation analysis (k 0-NAA). Experimental values of the thermal to epithermal neutron flux ratio (f) and of the deviation of the epithermal neutron spectrum from the 1/E shape (a) were determined using the Cd-ratio for multi-monitor method. The neutron temperature (T n) was obtained from co-irradiation of Lu with 1/v monitors. The results for several irradiation positions are presented and discussed in this work. Some element concentrations are determined based on the parameters obtained in this work, and compared with the certified reference material concentrations.  相似文献

The k 0-standardization method has been applied and evaluated at the cold-neutron prompt gamma-ray activation (PGA) facility of the Swiss spallation source SINQ (Paul Scherrer Institute). The k 0-factors for 26 elements of interest were measured using chlorine as a comparator. The results showed good agreement with the values determined at other cold and thermal neutron guided beams, except for a few elements. Then, standard reference materials were analyzed to assess the accuracy of the method using the obtained k 0-factors. Finally, the technique was used for multielement determination in various samples coming from nuclear waste storage, geochemistry and geology. In addition, the non-destructive nature of PGAA offered an interesting application in archeology.  相似文献

The pneumatic fast transfer system position at KAMINI reactor, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, India was characterized by determining the epithermal neutron flux shape factor (α) and the sub-cadmium to epithermal neutron flux ratio (f) for k 0-based Neutron Activation Analysis (k 0-NAA). For determination of α value, bare, Cd-ratio and Cd-cover methods were employed using dual and multi monitors namely Au, Zr and Zn. For calculation of f, Au and Zr monitors were used in the case of bare method and Au monitor was used for cadmium ratio and cadmium cover methods. The determined α-value of PFTS indicated a hard epithermal neutron spectrum and the f value indicated about 96 % thermal neutron component. For validation of k 0-NAA method, reference materials namely NIST SRM 1646a (Estuarine Sediment) and BCS Nb-stabilized Stainless Steel (BCS/SS No.261/1) were analyzed. The percentage errors of the determined concentration values of elements were within ±5 % with respect to the certified values and the Z-score values at 95 % confidence level were within ±2 in most of the cases.  相似文献

The applicability of the k0 standardization concept in ENAA has been investigated by comparing for 32 isotopes the experimentally determined ke, 0-values with those calculated from well-known k0 and Q0=l00 factors. It is concluded that the k-comparator method can be extended and applied in general to epicadmium (n, γ) activation analysis. Attention is also paid to some specific problems, such as the deviation from the ideal epithermal neutron flux distribution, the uncertainty in the effective Cd cut-off energy for the Cd-covers used, and the cadmium epithermal neutron transmission factor for which a literature survey is presented.  相似文献

By comparison of experimental k0-factors, determined in reactor positions with greatly different thermal-to-epithermal neutron flux ratios, and by comparison of experimentally determined and theoretically calculated k0-factors, it is possible in some cases to select best values from literature data for (n, γ) activation cross-sections and for absolute gamma intensities. This is demonstrated for97Zr,95Zr,56Mn and65Zn.  相似文献

The determination of very low concentrations of 237Np is of key-interest for environmental monitoring. The application of the k 0-method to neutron activation analysis was not possible so far, since the k 0-parameters were lacking. The parameters required for the k 0-method are: the effective resonance energy r, the resonance integral (1/E) to 2200 m.s-1 cross section ratio Q 0, and the k 0 values. In this work, the experimental values of these parameters were determined by using two nuclear reactors with very different flux characteristics.  相似文献
