The manifestation of double resonances upon the three-photon ionization of the samarium atom has been studied in a frequency range of 17200–18400 cm−1. Thirty peaks caused by double resonances have been found in the dependence of the yield of Sm+ ions on the laser radiation frequency. The majority of these peaks greatly exceed in amplitude the peaks associated with ordinary two-photon resonances. The influence of double resonances on the three-photon ionization has been theoretically analyzed using the density matrix approximation. The calculations show that the probability of the three-photon resonance ionization can increase by more than two orders of magnitude due to the additional one-photon population of an intermediate level. The double resonance slows down the rate of increase in the probability of ionization with an increase in the laser radiation intensity compared to ordinary two-photon resonance.  相似文献

The lineshape of two-photon absorption in a standing-wave field during elastic collisions is studied. It has been found that the transit broadening of the two-photon resonance on vibrational-rotational molecular transitions is sharply decreased because of an increase in the time of interaction of particles with the electromagnetic field due to elastic collisions. The effect considered allows one to obtain supernarrow optical resonances of two-photon absorption in a low-pressure gas with high intensity.  相似文献

A three photon resonance arising due to coherent population trapped (CPT) states in multi-level systems, is experimentally shown to be a powerful spectral marker to detect interacting CPT states. In systems showing N type or double Λ type level configurations, these absorption resonances can be used to identify spectral positions of maximal interactions between competing CPT ground states. The contrast of the absorption resonance serves to identify even partially destructive interactions between the CPT states, eliminating the need for strong resonant changes of ground state coherence for identification. We demonstrate this effect in a room temperature, gaseous collection of 87Rb. atoms. Three laser fields interact with a double Λ configuration in the Zeeman degenerate levels of the ground state 5S1/2S_{1/2}, F = 1 and those of the excited states 5P3/2P_{3/2}, F = 0,1, around the D2 line. The three-photon resonance is studied in the counter-propagating third field when the other two co-propagating fields satisfy the two-photon resonance condition necessary for creation of CPT states. We envisage that this absorption feature in the third field, can become a veritable tool to quantify degradation of CPT induced effects in engineered quantum states using multi-level systems.  相似文献

Role of collisions in inducing and enhancing extra resonances in non-linear generation by four-wave mixing in inhomogeneously broadened four level systems is studied. It is shown that collision induced three and two-photon resonances can be enhanced further by tuning to exact one photon (non-absorbing) transitions between unpopulated upper levels. In addition we also find existence of collision induced interference dip at the three-photon resonance that arises due to complete cancellation of signal at the line center.  相似文献

Summary We analyse saturated-absorption and two-photon absorption line shapes in Doppler-broadened three-level systems with nearly degenerate resonance frequencies. The two counterpropagating equal-frequency laser beams of arbitrary intensity irradiating the sample are allowed to couple to both atomic transitions. Various Doppler-free resonances associated to two- and three-photon effects occur. Their saturating behaviour is analysed. A comparison is made with experiments by Woerdmann and Schuurmans and by Himbertet al. To speed up publication, the authors of this paper have agreed to not receive the proofs for correction.  相似文献

We demonstrate a two-component detection of a coherent population trapping(CPT) resonance based on virtually imaged phased array(VIPA). After passing through a VIPA, the two coupling lights with different frequencies in the CPT experiment are separated in space and detected individually. The asymmetric lineshape is observed experimentally in the CPT signal for each component, and the comparison with the conventional detection is presented. The shift of the CPT resonant frequency is studied with both the two-component and one-component detections. Our scheme provides a convenient way to further study the CPT phenomenon for each frequency component.  相似文献

We have compared coherent population trapping (CPT) resonances, both experimentally and theoretically, for excitation of the D(1) and D(2) transitions of thermal (85)Rb vapor. Excitation of the D(1) line results in greater resonance contrast than excitation of the D(2) line and in a reduction in the resonance width, in agreement with theoretical expectations. These results translate into a nearly tenfold improvement in performance for the application of CPT resonances to a frequency standard or a sensitive magnetometer when the D(1) line, rather than the D(2) line, is used.  相似文献

We present and implement a new scheme for extended multichannel selective femtosecond coherent control based on symmetry properties of the excitation channels. Here, an atomic nonresonant two-photon absorption channel is coherently incorporated in a resonance-mediated (2+1) three-photon absorption channel. By proper pulse shaping, utilizing the invariance of the two-photon absorption to specific phase transformations of the pulse, the three-photon absorption is tuned independently over an order-of-magnitude yield range for any possible two-photon absorption yield. Noticeable is a set of "two-photon dark pulses" inducing widely tunable three-photon absorption.  相似文献

We demonstrate very high-contrast coherent population trapping(1) (CPT) resonances by using four-wave mixing in (87)Rb atoms. In the experiment, we take advantage of the spectral overlap between F=2-->F(?) and F=3-->F(?) optical resonances on the D1 line of (87)Rb and (85)Rb atoms, respectively, to eliminate the DC-light background from the CPT resonance signal. We observe a CPT resonance with a contrast in the range of 90%, compared with a few percent achieved by alternative methods.  相似文献

We discuss the dependence of the population transfer probability in the three-level Λ-scheme using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage on detuning from the two-photon resonance. For a large decay rate of the intermediate level we found that the two-photon lineshape is close to Gaussian with linewidth inversely proportional to the square root of the decay rate. The shift of the maximum of the two-photon line from exact two-photon resonance has been investigated.  相似文献

The dressed four- and six-wave mixings in a V-type four-level system are considered. Under two different dressed conditions, two- and three-photon resonant Autler--Townes splittings, accompanied by enhancement and suppression of wave mixing signal, are obtained analytically. Meanwhile, an electromagnetic induced transparency of multi-wave mixing is presented, which shows multiple peaks and asymmetric effects caused by one-photon, two-photon and three-photon resonances, separately. The slow light propagation multiple region of multi-wave mixing signal is also obtained.  相似文献

We have considered the interference spectra that occur at the three-photon generated frequency arising from the interaction of three laser fields with a four-level atom, where two of the laser fields are on two-photon resonance with the three levels forming a “λ” scheme while the third laser operates between the second ground and the second excited state of the atom. At low intensities of all three laser fields, the overall intensity of the peak at the three-photon generated frequency, describing the spectrum of an electron in the second excited state, depends on the strength of the combined field of the two laser fields that are on two-photon resonance and it takes negative values. This indicates that light amplification without population inversion is likely to occur at the three-photon generated frequency. The combined field of the three laser fields induces multiphoton excitations near the three-photon generated frequency, whose peaks are characterized by linewidths which are much less than the natural linewidths of the atoms. These excitations describe absorption or stimulating emission processes depending on the values of the detunings of the laser fields. The derived results are graphically presented and discussed. We propose and demonstrate a novel technique for increasing the amplitude of coherent population trapping (CPT) resonances in open Lambda systems. The technique requires no complex modifications to the conventional CPT setup and is compatible with standard microfabrication processes. The improvement in the CPT resonance amplitude as a function of intensity of the excitation light agrees well with the theory based on ideal open and closed Lambda systems.  相似文献

Combining linear absorption and nonlinear third harmonic generation (THG) experiments, we investigate details of the electronic structure of the highly correlated electronic system in La2CuO4. We demonstrate strong THG mainly due to the charge transfer excitation from O (2p(sigma)) to Cu (3d(x2-y2)). The THG spectrum shows pronounced features due to three-photon and two-photon resonance enhancement as well as quantum interference effects. We obtain excellent agreement with a THG spectrum calculated in terms of the excitonic cluster model and can identify both odd and even symmetry excitation modes.  相似文献

The Pt(5d) and Pt(4f) in PtSn and PtPb composites produced by sequential vapor deposition have been examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. At low concentrations of Pt, the Pt(5d) becomes a single, narrow resonance at about 4 eV below the Fermi level. Its density of states at the Fermi level is small. This leads to a large suppression of the Pt(4f) lineshape asymmetry. As the Pt concentration increases, d-d interactions split the Pt(5d) resonance and increase the 5d density of states at the Fermi level by pushing one of the split resonances to the Fermi level. Consequently, the Pt(4f) lineshape asymmetry increases. The evolution of the Pt(4f) and Pt(5d) in PtSn and PtPb are very similar but different from that of small Pt particles supported on carbon. The close similarity of the electronic properties of Pt in PtSn and PtPb suggests that the poisoning of Pt by Pb is not entirely due to electronic effects although there are indications of stronger interaction between Pt and Pb than between Pt and Sn atoms. The strong surface enrichment of Pb on PtPb points to the importance of the physical blockage of Pt atoms by surface Pb in determining the poisoning effect of Pb.  相似文献

We have performed an angle-resolved two-photon and three-photon photoemission study of the Ag(111) surface employing ultrashort laser pulses as the excitation source. We show the presence of multi-photon resonances between electronic states at selected points of the Brillouin zone which appear in the high-order photoemission spectral region. We observe clear signatures of electronic band structure effects of the Ag crystal in above-threshold photoemission (ATP) processes, identifying two types of transitions, which either proceed via non-resonant multi-photon excitation from an occupied initial state, or involve a real intermediate state located above the vacuum level of the solid directly influencing the ATP process. For this latter class of phenomena, we suggest that electron populations created by incoherent processes give a contribution to the multi-photon transition, possibly allowing us to trace the transmission of photoexcited electrons through the crystal.  相似文献

We observed the emission of l,6-diphenyl-l,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) when excited with the fundamental output of a fs Ti:sapphire laser at 860 nm. The emission spectra of DPH were identical to that observed for one-photon excitation at 287 nm. The dependence of the DPH emission intensity on laser power was cubic, indicating three-photon excitation of DPH at 860 nm. At a shorter wavelength of 810 nm, the dependence on laser power was quadratic, indicating a two-photon process. At an intermediate wavelength of 830 nm the mode of excitation was a mixture of two- and three-photon excitation. At 830 nm the anisotropy is no longer a molecular parameter, and the mode of excitation and anisotropy of DPH depends on laser power. Frequency-domain anisotropy decays of DPH in triacetin revealed the same rotational correlation times for two- and three-photon excitation. However, the time 0 anisotropy of DPH was larger for three-photon excitation than for two-photon excitation. Steady-state anisotropy data for DPH-labeled membranes revealed the same transition temperature for one- and three-photon excitation. These anisotropy data indicate that membrane heating was not significant with three-photon excitation and that three-photon excitation may thus be of practical usefulness in fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy of membranes.  相似文献

A nondegenerate four-level N-type scheme was experimentally implemented to observe electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) at the 87Rb D 2 line. Radiations of two independent external-cavity semiconductor lasers were used in the experiment, the current of one of them being modulated at a frequency equal to the hyperfine-splitting frequency of the excited 5P 3/2 level. In this case, apart from the main EIT dip corresponding to the two-photon Raman resonance in a three-level L-scheme, additional dips detuned from the main dip by a frequency equal to the frequency of the HF generator were observed in the absorption spectrum. These dips were due to an increase in the medium transparency at frequencies corresponding to the three-photon Raman resonances in four-level N-type schemes. The resonance shapes are analyzed as functions of generator frequency and magnetic field.  相似文献
