A new laser medium – Yb,Tm:KY(WO4)2 – for diode pumped solid state laser applications operating around 1.9 to 2.0 μm has been investigated and the main laser
characteristics are presented. Diode pumping at 981 nm and around 805 nm was realised. For 981-nm pumping, the excitation
occurs into Yb3+ ions followed by an energy transfer to Tm3+ions. A slope efficiency of 19% was realised. For pumping around 805 nm, the excitation occurs directly into the Tm3+ ions. Here a maximum slope efficiency of 52%, an optical efficiency of 40%, and output powers of more than 1 W were realised.
Using a birefringent quartz plate as an intracavity tuning element, the tunability of the Yb,Tm:KY(WO4)2 laser in the spectral range of 1.85–2.0 μm has been demonstrated. The possibility of laser operation in a microchip cavity
configuration for this material has also been shown.

By using holographic shear interferometry, we have measured the thermal lens in a diode-pumped Yb:YAB crystal, under lasing
and non-lasing conditions, as a function of absorbed power. From these purely optical measurements we estimate the fractional
thermal loading and the thermal conductivity of Yb:YAB. Knowledge of these thermal parameters is essential for the optimisation
of Yb:YAB laser cavity designs.

Efficient sub-nanosecond pulse operation of microchip lasers with intracavity Raman conversion and pulse compression is presented
for the first time. The microchip lasers were composed of Nd:LSB or Nd:YAG laser crystals, Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber, and Ba(NO3)2 Raman medium. The pulse duration obtained at the Stokes wavelength (1196 nm) was as short as 118 ps. Optical conversion efficiency
of laser-diode pump power to the Stokes power of 8% was reached. Pulse energy and peak power of Stokes emission were 1.2 μJ
and 5.4 kW, correspondingly. Numerical calculations are in good agreement with obtained experimental results.

The analysis of compact CW diode-side-pumped grazing-incidence-geometry Nd:YVO4 laser designs is presented. An output power of 5 W (λ=1064 nm) was produced at 17 W of diode pump (conversion efficiency
of 30%) in single transverse TEM00 mode operation at high laser beam quality (Mx
2≈1.05 and My
2≈1.01). The resonator geometry was analyzed by applying generalized 4×4 matrix modeling of the spatial mode size, including
the impact on the laser operation of cavity astigmatism and a thermal lens in the laser slab. The simplicity and compactness
of the laser cavities allow their use for technological applications.

A transition from a pure Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) mode to a pattern of optical vortex lattices in a large-Fresnel-number microchip
laser is experimentally demonstrated by controlling the cavity Q-factor. The cooperative frequency locking of nearly degenerate
modes is found to be a primary process for the generation of the optical vortex lattices in a class-B laser. When the cavity
Q-factor is high enough, a LG-like mode and a structure of optical vortex lattices are found to coexist. Competition between
coexisting transverse patterns of different symmetry gives rise to chaotic fluctuations.

Based on the features of laser diode end-pumped lasers, a thermal model of Yb:KY(WO4)2(Yb:KYW) with square cross-section was established. Considering the heat transfer on side faces, the anisotropic of thermal conductivity and the latest reports about thermo-optic coefficient, thermal expansion coefficient and thermal conductivity, temperature distribution, end-pumped face distortion and thermal lens focal length of Yb:KYW were more precisely obtained using finite difference method to solve Poisson equation in a rectangular Cartesian coordinate for the first time. At the pump power of 14 W, the highest temperature located at the center of end-pumped face was 243.8 °C, the highest distortion was 0.28 μm, and the thermal lens focal length was 5.4 cm along z-axis and −4.9 cm along x-axis. The results show that thermal lensing effects in the b-cut Yb:KYW were mainly determined by the anisotropic thermal expansion of Yb:KYW, and further present thermal lensing effects become weaker after considering the heat transfer. This work is significant for compensating the thermal lensing effect and improving the resonator stability of diode-pumped anisotropy crystal lasers. 相似文献

Ultrahigh-efficiency TEM00 operation is demonstrated in a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser in a bounce amplifier geometry using a specially designed astigmatically optimised cavity configuration. Optical efficiency
>68% is demonstrated and up to 27.1 W of output power for multimode operation. For single-mode TEM00 operation, an output power of 23.1 W for 39.5 W of diode pumping was produced with beam propagation parameters of Mx
2=1.3 and My
2=1.1.

A miniature high-coherent diode laser was developed. Optical feedback from a high-Q microsphere resonator was used to narrow
the spectrum of the laser, and a nearly half-pitch gradient-index lens served as a coupling element. As estimated from the
variation in frequency-tuning range (chirp-reduction factor) the fast line width of the laser was reduced by more than three
orders. It is remarkable that the system reveals stable single-mode operation at a relatively high feedback level. A tentative
explanation is presented in terms of previously given models.

We demonstrate, for the first time to our knowledge, operation of a self-adaptive holographic laser with wavelength selection,
which uses Nd:YLF as the gain medium. The holographic laser was self-starting and, by virtue of the temporal dynamics in writing
the gain grating, passively Q-switched the cavity to produce pulses with 20–50 ns duration. A pulse energy of 184 mJ was obtained
from the system with beams having a TEM00 spatial profile. Single-longitudinal-mode operation was observed with near-transform-limited bandwidth.

Experimental and theoretical results of investigation of CW Yb:LiLuF4 (Yb:LLF) and Yb:Na4Y6F22 (Yb:NYF) lasers under longitudinal diode laser pump are reported. Slope efficiencies of 41%, 58% with 0.21, 0.53 W of output powers were obtained for the Yb:LLF and Yb:NYF lasers, correspondingly. The Yb:NYF laser demonstrated tunability in the region from 1005 to 1061 nm. The mathematical modelling of CW laser operation predicts under optimized laser parameters optical to optical efficiencies of about 55% and 51% for Yb:LLF and Yb:NYF lasers, respectively. 相似文献

We report stable self-starting near-transform-limited 26-fs pulses at 250-mW output power from a Kerr-lens mode-locked (KLM)
Cr4+:YAG laser using chirped mirrors in combination with prisms. The highest output power achieved in KLM regime was 600 mW at
55-fs pulse duration. The experimental results agree well with the results of theoretical analysis with respect to KLM self-starting
ability and stability against continuous-wave and multi-pulse operation. Parameter ranges for stable transform-limited KLM
pulses as well as the shortest achievable pulse durations are established. Using an InGaAs-InP semiconductor saturable absorber
mirror we could obtain self-starting 57-fs pulses at the average output power of 200 mW. Two-photon absorption was found to
be the main mechanism favoring the multiple-pulse operation.

The coherent combining of two Nd:YAG lasers using a Vernier–Michelson-type cavity has been demonstrated. The spectral behaviour
and the energetic performance are reported. We firstly show that the combining efficiency is not strongly spoilt by the gain
imbalance between the two amplifying media, and secondly, that despite the interferometric nature of the cavity, the Vernier–Michelson
laser can withstand environmental perturbations without alteration in output power.

Multi-line laser transitions from one metastable triplet state to another at wavelengths of 2.92, 3.01, 2.69 and 2.60 μm have
been obtained through high pulse repetition frequency longitudinal discharge in a mixed gas of strontium vapor and helium
buffer gas. The intensity ratio of these laser lines was 5:4:4:1. As far as we know, these laser lines have never been reported
except for 3.01 μm. Some mechanisms for forming a population inversion are initially discussed on the basis of analyzing features
of corresponding energy-level structure and experimental phenomena. It is reasonable to name this kind of laser as an M–M
transition laser according to the feature of the lasing process.

The behaviour of a rf-excited waveguide CO2 laser in the pulse regime is studied experimentally. The specific time sections of the pulse have been defined and described
in detail. The output pulse evolution versus input power, pressure of the laser mixture, output coupling, repetition frequency
and pulse width has been investigated. The spectral content of the pulse has been analysed. A model explaining the effect
of laser tuning during the pulse duration is given. The ultrahigh pulse (UHP), defined as the pulse for which the bulge effect
occurs, is predicted.

Using the mode splitting that can be achieved by exploiting the effect of photoelasticity and the mode selection properties
of coupled resonators, single- and two-frequency operation of a diode pumped cw YAG:Nd3+ laser was observed. In the two-frequency case, a regime with two orthogonal linearly polarized modes was realized. The frequency
difference between the adjacent modes could be varied from 50 MHz to 8.4 GHz. A maximum laser output power of 12 mW was achieved
at a pump level of 240 mW .

A Nd:YVO4 laser, end-pumped by a fiber-coupled diode-laser array, generates 7.3 W of output power at 1342 nm, the highest so far reported
for this host crystal. The slope efficiency is 40% and the output-beam divergence is close to the diffraction limit. An important
point in attaining such results is the choice of crystals with low Nd concentration.

This paper describes a tunable diode laser spectrometer for the in situ measurement of methane by high-resolution absorption
spectroscopy of roto-vibrational lines, using a distributed feedback laser emitting in the near infrared (1.65 μm) and a multi-pass
cell, with a two-tone detection scheme. The instrument was designed to be installed on the high-altitude aircraft M55 Geophysica,
for high-sensitivity and high-temporal-resolution measurement of CH4, both as a greenhouse gas and as a tracer of air-mass motion. The instrument-design criteria to achieve the compactness,
low weight, and ruggedness necessary for automatic operation on an unpressurized high-altitude aircraft are reported. Results
of the laboratory testing are also shown and discussed.

A versatile CO laser-based photoacoustic spectrometer is presented equipped with three photoacoustic cells placed inside the
laser cavity. The newly designed CO laser can operate both in the Δv=1 and the Δv=2 modes (5.1–8.0 μm and 2.8–4.1 μm) on 400
laser lines. Improved laser operation originating from a better cooling of the gas discharge was evidenced by a shift of the
laser output power to lower J-values. Due to the wide emission range of the source, many molecules of biological and atmospheric
interest, including methane and ethane, can be detected with sensitivities typically at the (sub)ppb level. Measurement of
the respiration of a cockroach showed that the spectrometer is not only sensitive, but also has a good time response (8 s
at a flow rate of 10 l/h).

A 10-kHz pulse-repetition-frequency dye-laser master-oscillator power amplifier, end-pumped by a copper vapour laser (CVL),
is reported. This laser was based on recently available, lightweight and compact CVL and dye laser components. Dye laser tunability
was achieved from 592 to 622 nm and, when the oscillator was etalon line-narrowed, up to 1.5 W of single-etalon-mode output
was obtained from the amplifier at the 608-nm peak tuning wavelength. By frequency doubling this amplified output in a BBO
crystal we obtained up to 225 mW of 5-GHz 308-nm output, which is suitable for the performance of tropospheric hydroxyl radical
concentration measurements.

Applying the combination of a solid-state Ti:Sa laser system and a newly developed wide-aperture, discharge-pumped KrF amplifier,
output pulses with over 9 W average power at 300 Hz have been achieved in a single output beam. The frequency-tripled seed
pulses of the Ti:Sa system – delivering approximately 10 μJ energy at 248 nm – were amplified to over 30 mJ using a 3-pass
off-axis amplification scheme. The optical set-up has been fitted to the amplifier’s parameters, and stored-energy measurements
were carried out with different parameters in order to optimize the operational conditions of the device for the highest average
power.
