A high efficiency, high beam quality diode-pumped Nd:YAG master oscillator power-amplifier (MOPA) laser with six amplifier stages is demonstrated. The oscillator with two-rod birefringence compensation was designed as a thermally determined near hemispherical resonator, which presents a pulse energy of 223 mJ with a beam quality value of M2 = 1.29 at a repetition rate of 108 Hz. The MOPA system delivers a pulse energy of 5.1 J with a pulse width of 230 μs, a M2 factor of 3.6 and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 38.5%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest pulse energy for a diode-pumped Nd:YAG rod laser operation with a high beam quality and a pulse width of hundreds of microseconds at a repetition rate of over 100 Hz.  相似文献

A liquid-cooled ceramic Nd:YAG split-disk laser amplifier has been designed for a high-average-power laser system. The maximum average output power of 17.1 W (1.71 J at 10 Hz) and the beam size of far-field pattern with 1.5 times diffraction limit was obtained. The combination of liquid cooling for disk laser material and wavefront compensation with a phase conjugation mirror was demonstrated. The wavefront degradation by liquid cooling was observed and measured with Michelson interferometer and far-field patterns.  相似文献

We demonstrate and optimize, for a mJ/ns release at the wavelength 1.064 μm, the operation of a compact laser system designed in the form of a hybrid, active-passive, Q-switched Nd3+:YAG/Cr4+:YAG microchip laser seeding an Yb-doped specialty multi-port fiber amplifier. As the result of the amplifier optimization, ∼1 mJ, ∼1 ns, almost single-mode pulses at a 1-10-kHz repetition rate are achieved, given by a gain factor of ∼19 dB for an 11-μJ input from the microchip laser. Meanwhile, a lower pulse energy, ∼120 μJ, but a much higher gain (∼25 dB) are eligible for the less powerful (0.35 μJ) input pulses.  相似文献

A diode-pumped Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) laser system based on cryogenic cooled Yb:YAG has been designed, developed and its output performance characterised. The laser system consists of a fibre oscillator, an active mirror regenerative amplifier and a four pass main amplifier. 2.4 mJ, 10 ns, 100 Hz seed pulses from the fibre oscillator/regenerative amplifier arrangement were amplified up to pulse energies of over 200 mJ by using the four pass main amplifier arrangement. As a further study we have obtained an increased slope efficiency of 40% and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 30% using a pinhole vacuum spatial filter/image relay for laser mode control. With 1.8 mJ input seed pulses, output pulse energies of around 150 mJ were achieved.  相似文献

The continuous-wave (cw) and passive Q-switching operation of a diode-end-pumped gadolinium gallium garnet doped with neodymium (Nd:GGG) laser at 1062 nm was realized. A maximum cw output power of 6.9 W was obtained. The corresponding optical conversion efficiency was 50.9%, and the slope efficiency was determined to be 51.4%. By using Cr4+:YAG crystals as saturable absorbers, Q-switching pulse with average output power of 1.28 W, pulse width of 4 ns and repetition rate of 6.2 kHz were obtained. The single-pulse energy and peak power were estimated to be 206 μJ and 51.6 kW, respectively. The conversion efficiency of the output power from cw to Q-switching operation was as high as 84.7%.  相似文献

A high average power picosecond laser amplification system with diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 and diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG is described. Laser with power up to 92.7 W, repetition frequency of 73.3 MHz, pulse duration of 26.5 ps, and beam quality of M2 < 3.5 is generated in the amplification system. Thermal-birefringence-induced depolarization in the Nd:YAG rod laser head amplifier is measured to be 21.9 W though birefringence compensation is performed.  相似文献

Laser shock processing (LSP) or laser shock peening is a new technique for strengthening metals. This process induces a compressive residual stress field, which increases fatigue crack initiation life and reduces fatigue crack growth rate. Specimens of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy are used in this investigation. A convergent lens is used to deliver 2.5 J, 8 ns laser pulses by a Q-switch Nd:YAG laser, operating at 10 Hz. The pulses are focused to a diameter of 1.5 mm onto aluminum samples. Density of 2500 pulses/cm2 with infrared (1064 nm) radiation was used. The effect of an absorbent overlay on the residual stress field using this LSP setup and this energy level is evaluated. Residual stress distribution as a function of depth is assessed by the hole drilling method. It is observed that the overlay makes the compressive residual stress profile move to the surface. This effect is explained on the basis of the vaporization of the coat layer suppressing thermal effects on the metallic substrate. The effect of coating the specimen surface before LSP treatment may have advantages on improving wear and contact fatigue properties of this aluminum alloy.  相似文献

We have demonstrated efficient frequency doubling of high-energy fundamental Nd:YAG laser pulse energy of the multi-joule (J) level at a high repetition rate using high optical-quality top-seeded solution growth CsB3O5(TSSG-CBO) crystal for the first time. Second-harmonic (532 nm) generation (SHG) output energy of 1.2 J at 10 Hz is obtained with a conversion efficiency of 60%. This result has been obtained at the multi-J level by the growth of high optical-quality TSSG-CBO crystal with the large effective nonlinear coefficient and high damage threshold. These results indicate that TSSG-CBO is a good candidate material for high-energy SHG of Nd-doped lasers at the several J level or more with high repetition rate.  相似文献

Passively Q-switched c-cut Nd:Gd0.63Y0.37VO4 laser performance at 1.06 μm was demonstrated with Cr4+:YAG as saturable absorbers for the first time to our knowledge. This c-cut mixed crystal was found to have large energy storage capacity. The shortest pulse width, largest pulse energy, and highest peak power were obtained to be 6.6 ns, 201.7 μJ, and 30.6 kW, respectively.  相似文献

By coupling two travelling optical waves slightly detuned in a semiconductor optical amplifier, the wave-mixing effect generates a comb of new optical frequencies, which is experimentally studied as a function of detuning from 2 pm (250 MHz) to 2 nm (250 GHz). Dependences of generated powers on detuning are empirically found and theoretically justified by means of an easy deduction based on the temporal modulation of the population difference. Empirical equations allow one to determine time constants of the semiconductor optical amplifier. Moreover, while detuning is sufficiently low, exceptionally high powers are generated up to the eighth order, which could be of use to improve recent applications based on wave-mixing.  相似文献

We present an all solid-state Yb:S-FAP laser system running on the three-level laser transition at 985 nm. The pump source was a high fill-factor laser diode bar, with the output reformatted using a two-mirror beamshaping system to produce a rectangular pump beam that focused to a square spot. A nearly on-axis multipassing system was used to obtain four pump passes through a 1.6 mm Yb:S-FAP laser crystal. Gain-switched three-level laser output was achieved with an efficiency of 4.3% with respect to incident pump power. Electro-optic Q-switching produced 0.12 mJ pulses for a pump pulse energy of 11 mJ. Intra-cavity second-harmonic generation yielded a maximum pulse energy at 492.5 nm of 12 μJ.  相似文献

We report on the development of a pulsed diode end-pumped Nd:YAG laser mode-locked by a nonlinear mirror and stabilized by an acousto-optical modulator. With the introduction of appropriate intracavity loss, the laser is able to generate 22.8 ps pulses with the energy of 4.5 μJ. After amplification and frequency doubling stages, the second harmonic radiation is used to non-collinearly synchronously pump a β-barium borate optical parametric oscillator in a walk-off compensated scheme. The system demonstrates a wide-tuning range from 635 nm to 2.55 μm for the signal output, with maximum average conversion efficiency as high as 42%.  相似文献

Nanosecond (∼100 ns) pulsed (10 Hz) Nd:YAG laser operating at the wavelength (λ) of 1064 nm with pulse energies of 0.16-1.24 mJ/cm2 has irradiated 10Sm2O3·40BaO·50B2O3 glass. It is demonstrated for the first time that the structural modification resulting the large decease (∼3.5%) in the refractive index is induced by the irradiation of YAG laser with λ=1064 nm. The lines with refractive index changes are written in the deep inside of 100-1000 μm depths by scanning laser. The line width is 1-13 μm, depending on laser pulse energy and focused beam position. It is proposed that the samarium atom heat processing is a novel technique for inducing structural modification (refractive index change) in the deep interior of glass.  相似文献

Laser shock processing (LSP) has been proposed as a competitive alternative technology to classical treatments for improving fatigue and wear resistance of metals. We present a configuration and results for metal surface treatments in underwater laser irradiation at 1064 nm. A convergent lens is used to deliver 1.2 J/cm2 in a 8 ns laser FWHM pulse produced by 10 Hz Q-switched Nd:YAG, two laser spot diameters were used: 0.8 and 1.5 mm.Results using pulse densities of 2500 pulses/cm2 in 6061-T6 aluminum samples and 5000 pulses/cm2 in 2024 aluminum samples are presented. High level of compressive residual stresses are produced −1600 MPa for 6061-T6 Al alloy, and −1400 MPa for 2024 Al alloy. It has been shown that surface residual stress level is higher than that achieved by conventional shot peening and with greater depths. This method can be applied to surface treatment of final metal products.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a multiwavelength Brillouin-erbium fiber laser in two configurations; uni-directional and bi-directional propagation of Brillouin pump and Brillouin Stokes signals through an Erbium-doped fiber gain. The influence of these configurations on the performance of the output parameters in terms of lasing threshold, output channel generation and tuning range of the generated output channels are investigated. We discovered that there is a trade-off between these two fiber laser configurations. The uni-directional amplifier configuration provides greater tuning range of 46.8 nm against 23 nm at maximum Brillouin pump power of 2 mW and 1480-nm pump power of 130 mW. On the other hand, the bi-directional amplifier configuration provides 13 output channels against 6 output channels obtained from the uni-directional amplifier configuration at the same pumping powers. Nevertheless, the bi-directional amplifier configuration requires much lower pump power to initiate lasing.  相似文献

To obtain the temperature-sensitive rate equations, a new energy level diagram of Praseodymium ion (Pr3+) in a glass host is modelled. By solving the modified rate equations, an analytical expression is presented to investigate the temperature dependence of the signal gain of a praseodymium-doped fiber amplifier (PDFA). It is seen that a change in the signal gain slightly depends on the variation of the distribution of Pr3+-ions in transitions 3F4 ↔ 3F3 with the temperature. Numerical calculations are carried out for the temperature range which is changing from −20 to +60 °C. Pr3+-doped ZBLAN fiber amplifier pumped at 1017 nm and Pr3+-doped sulfide fiber amplifier pumped at 1028 nm are selected as an application for the 1.3 μm signal wavelengths. It is also seen that the prediction of the model is in good agrement with their experimental results.  相似文献

In this work we have studied pure and thulium- and chromium-doped ZBLAN glasses irradiated by ultra-short laser pulses. A Ti:sapphire CPA system was used, producing a 500 Hz train of pulses, centered at 830 nm, with 375 μJ of energy and 50 fs of duration (FWHM). The beam was focused by a 20 mm lens, producing a converging beam with a waist of 12 μm. The absorption spectra before and after laser irradiation were obtained showing production of color centers in pure, thulium-doped and chromium-doped ZBLAN glasses. A damage threshold of 9.56 T W/cm2 was determined for ZBLAN.  相似文献

Harmonic generation crystals inherently offer the possibility of using multiple wavelengths of light in a single laser pulse. In the present experiment, the fundamental (1064 nm) and second harmonic (532 nm) wavelengths from an Nd:YAG laser are focused together on GaAs and GaSb targets for ablation. Incident energy densities up to about 45 J/cm2 at 10 Hz with substrate temperatures between 25 and 600 °C for durations of about 60 s have been used in an ambient gas pressure of about 10−6 Torr. The ablated material was collected on electron-transparent amorphous carbon films for TEM analysis. Apart from a high density of isolated nanocrystals, the most common morphology observed consists of a crystalline GaAs cone-like structure in contact with a sphere of liquid Ga, resembling an “ice cream cone”, typically 50-100 nm in length. For all of the heterostuctures of this type, the liquid/solid/vacuum triple junction is found to correspond to the widest point on the cone. These heterostructures likely form by preferential evaporation of As from molten GaAs drops ablated from the target. The resulting morphology minimizes the interfacial and surface energies of the liquid Ga and solid GaAs.  相似文献

We have demonstrated that we can homogenize the spatial profile of a high-energy green laser pulse used for pumping a petawatt scale Ti:sapphire amplifier. The second harmonic of a high-energy, large aperture Nd:glass laser system generates laser emission at a green wavelength with 75 J single pulse energy. Using a diffractive optical element for beam homogenization, we have obtained a highly spatially uniform flat-top second harmonic profile.  相似文献

An end pumped Nd:YAP laser at 1341 nm is actively mode locked and passively Q-switched. Pumping was done with a pulsed high power laser diode with maximum power 425 W. V3+:YAG with 61% initial transmission served as saturable absorber, and an acousto-optic modulator is used for active mode locking. The output pulse train with 69 ns duration has a total energy of 3.2 mJ with ±4% shot-to-shot fluctuation. The peak output energy of a single mode locked pulse is 0.25 mJ. The pulse duration of a single mode locked pulse is less than 800 ps. The output laser beam is nearly diffraction limited with 1.6 mm diameter, and beam propagation factor M2 about 1.3.  相似文献
