We experimentally demonstrate a Faraday laser at Rb 1529 nm transition by using a performance-improved Rb electrodeless-discharge-lamp-based excited-state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter as the frequencyselective element. Neither the electrical locking scheme nor the additional frequency-stabilized pump laser are used. The frequency of the external-cavity diode laser is stabilized to the Rb 1529 nm transition, and the Allan deviation of the Faraday laser is measured by converting the optical intensity into frequency. The Faraday laser can be used as a frequency standard in the telecom C band for further research on metrology, microwave photonics, and optical communication systems. 相似文献

For daytime operation a new receiver for potassium resonance temperature lidars was developed that includes a twin Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter and a high-performance photon-counting avalanche photodiode instead of a photomultiplier. The design of a flat spectral filter shape over the lidar scan range avoids instrumental error on the temperature results. Initial temperature measurements under daylight conditions were realized. 相似文献

We present a theoretical and experimental study of the ultranarrow bandwidth Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter operating at the rubidium D1 line (795 nm). This atomic line gives better performance than other lines for key figures of merit, e.g., simultaneously 71% transmission, 445 MHz bandwidth, and 1.2 GHz equivalent-noise bandwidth. 相似文献

We report a flat spectral Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FS-FADOF) for sodium lidar. The physical and technical considerations for obtaining a FS-FADOF with a 3.5 GHz flat spectral transmission function are presented. It was found that the effective transmission of this filter was much higher (>94%) and more uniform than that of the ultranarrowband FADOF, and therefore were less sensitive to laser-frequency drift. Thus, the FS-FADOF can improve lidar efficiency and precision. 相似文献

At daytime, metal resonance lidars need narrowband spectral filtering in the receiver to measure Doppler temperatures in the mesopause region. For our K lidar equipped with a Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter we demonstrate that the derived resonance temperatures can be shifted by 10 K because of the wavelength dependence of the filter transmission for the Rayleigh scattered light when this filter transmission is used for normalization. We show that, if all filter effects are considered correctly, temperature measurements at daytime can be as accurate as at nighttime without such filters. 相似文献

An optical signal processing scheme using time lenses in a 4-f configuration for optical communication systems is proposed. The first time-lens combined with a dispersive element such as an optical fiber produces the Fourier transform of the input signal and the second time lens combined with an optical fiber placed after the temporal filter produces the inverse Fourier transformation. Typically, in an optical signal processing scheme based on space/time-lens, the signal at the output is space/time-reversed because of the direct Fourier transformation after the spatial/temporal filter, which is undesirable for a practical optical communication system. Here, we propose a technique to implement both direct and inverse Fourier transformation using time lenses which has no spatial analogue. As a result, the bit sequence at the output is not time-reversed. Two applications of the proposed scheme, a demultiplexer for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems and a higher-order dispersion compensator, have been discussed and numerically implemented. 相似文献

This paper discusses in detail the effect of magnetic field on the filtering behaviour of potassium D2 line Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) when the working temperature and the length of the cell are fixed. A Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) with a single transmission peak is achieved by using a buffer-gas (argon, 2 Torr)-filled rubidium cell. At room temperature, the transmission is 0.2% and the bandwidth of the transmission peak is 0.65 GHz. At a temperature of 63° C, the transmission rises to a maximum of 30.6%, with a bandwidth of 1.41 GHz. This FADOF may replace the use of interference filters or virtually imaged phased arrays in imaging modalities. 相似文献

We investigate the interaction between a single mode light field and an elongated cigar shaped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), subject to a temporal modulation of the trap frequency in the tight confinement direction. Under appropriate conditions, the longitudinal sound like waves (Faraday waves) in the direction of weak confinement acts as a dynamic diffraction grating for the incident light field analogous to the acousto-optic effect in classical optics. The change in the refractive index due to the periodic modulation of the BEC density is responsible for the acousto-optic effect. The dynamics is characterised by Bragg scattering of light from the matter wave Faraday grating and simultaneous Bragg scattering of the condensate atoms from the optical grating formed due to the interference between the incident light and the diffracted light fields. Varying the intensity of the incident laser beam we observe the transition from the acousto-optic effect regime to the atomic Bragg scattering regime, where Rabi oscillations between two momentum levels of the atoms are observed. We show that the acousto-optic effect is reduced as the atomic interaction is increased. 相似文献

This paper reports what is to our knowledge the first demonstration of Zeeman absorption Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (hereafter abbreviated to FADOF/Zeeman). The mutual relations among passband, tuning capability, cell temperature and magnetic field of FADOF/Zeeman have been studied theoretically and experimentally. The results showed that the single passband of FADOF/Zeeman was about 1 GHz, which is 3 times less than the passband of FADOF. The tuning capability was about 1 GHz/0.01 T. 相似文献

For the remote sensing of temperature profiles in the ocean, Brillouin scattering can be exploited as a temperature tracer. Such a lidar system is capable of delivering cost-effective on-line data from an extended region of the ocean compared to conventional in situ techniques. The acquired temperature profiles can give valuable input into climate studies and weather forecasts. In this contribution, we present the current status of our experimental setup, consisting of a light source based on a multistage pulsed Yb-doped fiber amplifier and a receiver unit based on an excited-state Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter. 相似文献
