We consider the equation a(y)uxx+divy(b(y)yu)+c(y)u=g(y, u) in the cylinder (–l,l)×, being elliptic where b(y)>0 and hyperbolic where b(y)<0. We construct self-adjoint realizations in L2() of the operatorAu= (1/a) divy(byu)+(c/a) in the case ofb changing sign. This leads to the abstract problem uxx+Au=g(u), whereA has a spectrum extending to + as well as to –. For l= it is shown that all sufficiently small solutions lie on an infinite-dimensional center manifold and behave like those of a hyperbolic problem. Anx-independent cross-sectional integral E=E(u, ux) is derived showing that all solutions on the center manifold remain bounded forx ±. For finitel, all small solutionsu are close to a solution on the center manifold such that u(x)-(x) Ce -(1-|x|) for allx, whereC and are independent ofu. Hence, the solutions are dominated by hyperbolic properties, except close to the terminal ends {±1}×, where boundary layers of elliptic type appear.  相似文献

Summary Let denote the congruence of null geodesics associated with a given optical observer inV 4. We prove that determines a unique collection of vector fieldsM() ( =1, 2, 3) and (0) overV 4, satisfying a weak version of Killing's conditions.This allows a natural interpretation of these fields as the infinitesimal generators of spatial rotations and temporal translation relative to the given observer. We prove also that the definition of the fieldsM() and (0) is mathematically equivalent to the choice of a distinguished affine parameter f along the curves of, playing the role of a retarded distance from the observer.The relation between f and other possible definitions of distance is discussed.

Dimostriamo che determina un'unica collezione di campi vettorialiM() ( =1, 2, 3) e (0) inV 4 che soddisfano una versione in forma debole delle equazioni di Killing. Ciò suggerisce una naturale interpretazione di questi campi come generatori infinitesimi di rotazioni spaziali e traslazioni temporali relative all'osservatore assegnato. A structurally nonlinear contact problem of a punch shaped like a paraboloid of revolution is studied. An equation for the contactpressure density is derived with allowance for the radial tangential displacements of the boundary points of an elastic halfspace. The harmonic content of the nonlinear dynamic behaviour of 1% polyacrylamide in 50% glycerol/water was studied using a standard Model R 18 Weissenberg Rheogoniometer. The Fourier analysis of the Oscillation Input and Torsion Head motions was performed using a Digital Transfer Function Analyser.In the absence of fluid inertia effects and when the amplitude of the (fundamental) Oscillation Input motion I is much greater than the amplitudes of the Fourier components of the Torsion Head motion Tn empirical nonlinear dynamic rheological propertiesG n (, 0),G n (, 0) and/or n (, 0), n (, 0) may be evaluated without a-priori-knowledge of a rheological constitutive equation. A detailed derivation of the basic equations involved is presented.Cone and plate data for the third harmonic storage modulus (dynamic rigidity)G 3 (, 0), loss modulusG 3 (, 0) and loss angle 3 (, 0) are presented for the frequency range 3.14 × 10–2 1.25 × 102 rad/s at two strain amplitudes, CP 0 = 2.27 and 4.03. Composite cone and plate and parallel plates data for both the third and fifth harmonic dynamic viscosities 3 (, 0), S (, 0) and dynamic rigiditiesG 3 (, 0),G 5 (, 0) are presented for strain amplitudes in the ranges 1.10 CP 0 4.03 and 1.80 PP 0 36 for a single frequency, = 3.14 × 10–1 rad/s. Good agreement was obtained between the results from both geometries and the absence of significant fluid inertia effects was confirmed by the superposition of the data for different gap widths.  相似文献

Twolayer miscible flow above an uneven bottom is considered. A mathematical model in the shallowwater approximation is constructed for the development of a turbulent layer between homogeneous layers of different density in a twolayer channel flow over a local obstacle. When analyzing stochastic steady flow, the hydraulic conductivity naturally appears logarithmically. Often the log conductivity is represented as the sum of an average plus a stochastic fluctuation. To make the problem tractable, the log conductivity fluctuation, f, about the mean log conductivity, lnK G, is assumed to have finite variance, f 2. Historically, perturbation schemes have involved the assumption that f 2<1. Here it is shown that f may not be the most judicious choice of perturbation parameters for steady flow. Instead, we posit that the variance of the gradient of the conductivity fluctuation, f 2, is more appropriate hoice. By solving the problem withthis parameter and studying the solution, this conjecture can be refined and an even more appropriate perturbation parameter, , defined. Since the processes f and f can often be considered independent, further assumptions on f are necessary. In particular, when the two point correlation function for the conductivity is assumed to be exponential or Gaussian, it is possible to estimate the magnitude of f in terms of f and various length scales. The ratio of the integral scale in the main direction of flow ( x ) to the total domain length (L*), x 2=x/L*, plays an important role in the convergence of the perturbation scheme. For x smaller than a critical value c, x < c, the scheme's perturbation parameter is =f/x for one- dimensional flow, and =f/x 2 for two-dimensional flow with mean flow in the x direction. For x > c, the parameter =f/x 3 may be thought as the perturbation parameter for two-dimensional flow. The shape of the log conductivity fluctuation two point correlation function, and boundary conditions influence the convergence of the perturbation scheme.  相似文献

The paper proposes a heuristic approach to constructing exact solutions of the hydrodynamic equations based on the specificity of these equations. A number of systems of hydrodynamic equations possess the following structure: they contain a reduced system of n equations and an additional equation for an extra function w. In this case, the reduced system, in which w = 0, admits a Lie group G. Taking a certain partially invariant solution of the reduced system with respect to this group as a seed:rdquo; solution, we can find a solution of the entire system, in which the functional dependence of the invariant part of the seed solution on the invariants of the group G has the previous form. Implementation of the algorithm proposed is exemplified by constructing new exact solutions of the equations of rotationally symmetric motion of an ideal incompressible liquid and the equations of concentrational convection in a plane boundary layer and thermal convection in a rotating layer of a viscous liquid.  相似文献

We study and obtain formulas for the asymptotic behavior as ¦x¦ of C 2 solutions of the semilinear equation u=f(x, u), x (*) where is the complement of some ball in n and f is continuous and nonlinear in u. If, for large x, f is nearly radially symmetric in x, we give conditions under which each positive solution of (*) is asymptotic, as ¦x¦, to some radially symmetric function. Our results can also be useful when f is only bounded above or below by a function which is radially symmetric in x or when the solution oscillates in sign. Examples when f has power-like growth or exponential growth in the variables x and u usefully illustrate our results.  相似文献

The behavior of the neutral stability curves is investigated for various values of the particle relaxation time and mass concentration 0 100 and 0 f 0.1. It is shown that as increases from zero the flow is at first destabilized and then at >6 becomes stable, while at >40 the stabilizing effect of the dispersed phase grows weaker. Scheiben wird die Erstellung singulärer Ansatzfunktionen gezeigt, wie sie für finite Näherungsverfahren benötigt werden, die von den Funktionalen der totalen Energie bzw. der komplementären Energie ausgehen. Das Vorgehen wird eingehend an Kreiszylinderschalen erläutert.
Summary Starting from known fundamental solutions of plates the construction of singular basic estimate functions is shown. These are necessary in finite approximation methods basing on the functionals of total energy or complementary energy. The proceeding is explained in detail in a cylindrical shell analysis.

This paper discusses formulation of the total problem of flow of an incompressible liquid over a body, with formation of a closed stationary separation zone as Re . The scheme used is based on the method of matched asymptotic expansions [1]. Following [1], it is postulated that the separated zone is developed (i.e., it is not infinitely fragmented and does not vanish as Re ), and the flow inside it has a definite degree of regularity with respect to Re. With these hypotheses we can use the Prandtl-Batchelor theorem [2], which states that, in the limit as Re , a region of circulating flow becomes vortex flow of an inviscid liquid with constant vorticity . Therefore, a basis for constructing matched asymptotic expansions is the vortex-potential problem (the problem of determining a stream function , satisfying the equation = 0 in the region of translational motion and the equation = in a certain region, unknowna priori, of circulating motion). In the general case the solution of the vortex-potential problem depends on two parameters: the total pressure po and the vorticity in the separated zone. These parameters appear in the condition for matching the solutions of the first and second boundary-layer approximations (at the boundary of the separated zone for the end Re values) with the corresponding solutions for the inviscid flow. It is shown in the present paper that the conditions for matching the cyclic boundary layer with the external translational flow are the same additional relations which allow us to close the total problem. In this paper we study differential equations of the formx(t) + x(t)=f(x(t)), x(0)=x 0 C HereC is a closed, bounded convex subset of a Banach spaceX,f(C) C, and it is often assumed thatf(x) is a quadratic map. We study the differential equation by using the general theory of nonexpansive maps and nonexpansive, non-linear semigroups, and we obtain sharp results in a number of cases of interest. We give a formula for the Lipschitz constant off: C C, and we derive a precise explicit formula for the Lipschitz constant whenf is quadratic,C is the unit simplex inR n, and thel 1 norm is used. We give a new proof of a theorem about nonexpansive semigroups; and we show that if the Lipschitz constant off: CC is less than or equal to one, then limtf(x(t))–x(t)=0 and, if {x(t):t 0} is precompact, then limtx(t) exists. Iff¦C=L¦C, whereL is a bounded linear operator, we apply the nonlinear theory to prove that (under mild further conditions on C) limt f(x(t))–x(t)=0 and that limt x(t) exists if {x(t):t 0} is precompact. However, forn 3 we give examples of quadratic mapsf of the unit simplex ofR n into itself such that limt x(t) fails to exist for mostx 0 C andx(t) may be periodic. A study is presented of the flow of stability of a Grad-model liquid layer [1, 2] flowing over an inclined plane under the influence of the gravity force.It is assumed that at every point of the considered material continuum, along with the conventional velocity vector v, there is defined an angular velocity vector , the internal moment stresses are negligibly small, and in the general case the force stress tensor kj is asymmetric. The model is characterized by the usual Newtonian viscosity , the Newtonian rolling viscosity r, and the relaxation time = J/4 r, where J is a scalar constant of the medium with dimensions of moment of inertia per unit mass, is the density. It is assumed that the medium is incompressible, the coefficients , r, J are constant [2].The exact solution of the equations of motion, corresponding to flow of a layer with a plane surface, coincides with the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in the case of flow of a layer of Newtonian fluid. The equations for three-dimensional periodic disturbances differ considerably from the corresponding equations for the problem of the flow stability of a layer of a Newtonian medium. It is shown that the Squire theorem is valid for parallel flows of a Grad liquid.The flow stability of the layer with respect to long-wave disturbances is studied using the method of sequential approximations suggested in [3, 4].  相似文献

We propose a new method for the solution of stochastic unsaturated flow problems in randomly heterogeneous soils which avoids linearizing the governing flow equations or the soil constitutive relations, and places no theoretical limit on the variance of constitutive parameters. The proposed method applies to a broad class of soils with flow properties that scale according to a linearly separable model provided the dimensionless pressure head has a near-Gaussian distribution. Upon treating as a multivariate Gaussian function, we obtain a closed system of coupled nonlinear differential equations for the first and second moments of pressure head. We apply this Gaussian closure to steady-state unsaturated flow through a randomly stratified soil with hydraulic conductivity that varies exponentially with where =(1/) is dimensional pressure head and is a random field with given statistical properties. In one-dimensional media, we obtain good agreement between Gaussian closure and Monte Carlo results for the mean and variance of over a wide range of parameters provided that the spatial variability of is small. We then provide an outline of how the technique can be extended to two- and three-dimensional flow domains. Our solution provides considerable insight into the analytical behavior of the stochastic flow problem.  相似文献

Turbulent tube flow and the flow through a porous medium of aqueous hydroxypropylguar (HPG) solutions in concentrations from 100 wppm to 5000 wppm is investigated. Taking the rheological flow curves into account reveals that the effectiveness in turbulent tube flow and the efficiency for the flow through a porous medium both start at the same onset wall shear stress of 1.3 Pa. The similarity of the curves = ( w ) and = ( w ), respectively, leads to a simple linear relation / =k, where the constantk or proportionality depends uponc. This offers the possibility to deduce (for turbulent tube flow) from (for flow through a porous medium). In conjunction with rheological data, will reveal whether, and if yes to what extent, drag reduction will take place (even at high concentrations).The relation of our treatment to the model-based Deborah number concept is shown and a scale-up formula for the onset in turbulent tube flow is deduced as well.  相似文献

The paper presents solutions to the problems of plane Couette flow, axial flow in an annulus between two infinite cylinders, and flow between two rotating cylinders. Taking into account energy dissipation and the temperature dependence of viscosity, as given by Reynolds's relation =0 exp (–T) (0, =const). Two types of boundary conditions are considered: a) the two surfaces are held at constant (but in general not equal) temperatures; b) one surface is held at a constant temperature, the other surface is insulated.Nonisothermal steady flow in simple conduits with dissipation of energy and temperature-dependent viscosity has been studied by several authors [1–11]. In most of these papers [1–6] viscosity was assumed to be a hyperbolic function of temperature, viz. =m 1/1+2(T–Tm.Under this assumption the energy equation is linear in temperature and can he easily integrated. Couette flow with an exponential viscosity-temperature relation. =0 e T (0, =const), (0.1) was studied in [7, 8]. Couette flow with a general (T) relation was studied in (9).Forced flow in a plane conduit and in a circular tube with a general (T) relation was studied in [10]. In particular, it has been shown in [10] that in the case of sufficiently strong dependence of viscosity on temperature there can exist a critical value of the pressure gradient, such that a steady flow is possible only for pressure gradients below this critical value.In a previous work [11] the authors studied Polseuille flow in a circular tube with an exponential (T) relation. This thermohydrodynamic problem was reduced to the problem of a thermal explosion in a cylindrical domain, which led to the existence of a critical regime. The critical conditions for the hydrodynamic thermal explosion and the temperature and velocity profiles were calculated.In this paper we treat the problems of Couette flow, pressureless axial flow in an annulus, and flow between two rotating cylinders taking into account dissipation and the variation of viscosity with temperature according to Reynolds's law (0.1). The treatment of the Couette flow problem differs from that given in [8] in that the constants of integration are found by elementary methods, whereas in [8] this step involved considerable difficulties. The solution to the two other problems is then based on the Couette problem.  相似文献

Nonlinear wave processes in shockloaded elastoplastic materials are modeled. A comparison of the results obtained with experimental data and numerical solutions of exact systems of dynamic equations shows that the model equations proposed qualitatively describe the stressdistribution evolution in both the elasticflow and plasticflow regions and can be used to solve one and twodimensional problems of pulsed deformation and fracture of elastoplastic media.  相似文献
