We show that it is possible to construct arbitrary order stable schemes for the homogeneous and heterogeneous wave equation in any dimension. The construction is elementary and uses formal power series techniques. We shall also calculate exact stability limits in various cases, and apparently this limit depends only on the dimension of the space.  相似文献

The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of certain operators generated by symmetric differential expressions with constant coefficients and self-adjoint boundary conditions in the space of Lebesgue squareintegrable functions on an interval are explicitly calculated, while the resolvents of these operators are integral operators with kernels for which the theorem on an eigenfunction expansion holds. In addition, each of these kernels is the Green’s function of a self-adjoint boundary value problem, and the procedure for its construction is well known. Thus, the Green’s functions of these problems can be expanded in series in terms of eigenfunctions. In this study, identities obtained by this method are used to calculate the sums of convergent number series and to represent the sums of certain power series in an intergral form.  相似文献

Label switching is a well-known problem occurring in MCMC outputs in Bayesian mixture modeling. In this article we propose a formal solution to this problem by considering the space of the artificial allocation variables. We show that there exist certain subsets of the allocation space leading to a class of nonsymmetric distributions that have the same support with the symmetric posterior distribution and can reproduce it by simply permuting the labels. Moreover, we select one of these distributions as a solution to the label switching problem using the simple matching distance between the artificial allocation variables. The proposed algorithm can be used in any mixture model and its computational cost depends on the length of the simulated chain but not on the parameter space dimension. Real and simulated data examples are provided in both univariate and multivariate settings. Supplemental material for this article is available online.  相似文献

We study the diffusive logistic equation with a free boundary in higher space dimensions and heterogeneous environment. Such a model may be used to describe the spreading of a new or invasive species, with the free boundary representing the expanding front. For simplicity, we assume that the environment and the solution are radially symmetric. In the special case of one space dimension and homogeneous environment, this free boundary problem was investigated in Du and Lin (2010) [10]. We prove that the spreading-vanishing dichotomy established in Du and Lin (2010) [10] still holds in the more general and ecologically realistic setting considered here. Moreover, when spreading occurs, we obtain best possible upper and lower bounds for the spreading speed of the expanding front. When the environment is asymptotically homogeneous at infinity, these two bounds coincide. Our results indicate that the asymptotic spreading speed determined by this model does not depend on the spatial dimension.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to give lower estimates on the range dimension of spherical minimal immersions in various settings. The estimates are obtained by showing that infinitesimal isometric deformations (with respect to a compact Lie group acting transitively on the domain) of spherical minimal immersions give rise to a contraction on the moduli space of the immersions and a suitable power of the contraction brings all boundary points into the interior of the moduli space.

In this paper, we investigate properties of Gelfand–Tsetlin bases mainly for spherical monogenics, that is, for spinor valued or Clifford algebra valued homogeneous solutions of the Dirac equation in the Euclidean space. Recently it has been observed that in dimension 3 these bases form an Appell system. We show that Gelfand–Tsetlin bases of spherical monogenics form complete orthogonal Appell systems in any dimension. Moreover, we study the corresponding Taylor series expansions for monogenic functions. We obtain analogous results for spherical harmonics as well.  相似文献

The following problem arises in thermoacoustic tomography and has intimate connection with PDEs and integral geometry. Reconstruct a function f supported in an n-dimensional ball B given the spherical means of f over all geodesic spheres centered on the boundary of B. We propose a new approach to this problem, which yields explicit reconstruction formulas in arbitrary constant curvature space, including euclidean space ? n , the n-dimensional sphere, and hyperbolic space. The main idea is analytic continuation of the corresponding operator families. The results are applied to inverse problems for a large class of Euler-Poisson-Darboux equations in constant curvature spaces of arbitrary dimension.  相似文献

We study the Fisher–KPP equation with a free boundary governed by a one-phase Stefan condition. Such a problem arises in the modeling of the propagation of a new or invasive species, with the free boundary representing the propagation front. In one space dimension this problem was investigated in Du and Lin (2010) [11], and the radially symmetric case in higher space dimensions was studied in Du and Guo (2011) [10]. In both cases a spreading-vanishing dichotomy was established, namely the species either successfully spreads to all the new environment and stabilizes at a positive equilibrium state, or fails to establish and dies out in the long run; moreover, in the case of spreading, the asymptotic spreading speed was determined. In this paper, we consider the non-radially symmetric case. In such a situation, similar to the classical Stefan problem, smooth solutions need not exist even if the initial data are smooth. We thus introduce and study the “weak solution” for a class of free boundary problems that include the Fisher–KPP as a special case. We establish the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution, and through suitable comparison arguments, we extend some of the results obtained earlier in Du and Lin (2010) [11] and Du and Guo (2011) [10] to this general case. We also show that the classical Aronson–Weinberger result on the spreading speed obtained through the traveling wave solution approach is a limiting case of our free boundary problem here.  相似文献

In this paper, we have given numerical solution of the elasticity problem of settled on the wronkler ground with variable coefficient. The approximation solution of boundary value problem which is pertinent to this has been converted to integral equations, and then by using the successive approximation methods, has been reached. In addition to this, the approximation solution of the problem was put into Padé series form. We applied these methods to an example which is the elasticity problem of unit length homogeny beam, which is a special form of boundary value problem. First we calculate the successive approximation of the given boundary value problem then transform it into Padé series form, which give an arbitrary order for solving differential equation numerically.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a free boundary problem of general type for the heat equation in one space dimension. We formulate this problem as an optimal control problem and derive necessary conditions for a solution of it. In order to compute a solution of the control problem, we apply the projection-gradient-method. Simple numerical examples illustrate the results.  相似文献

We calculate the wave kernels for the classical rank-one symmetric spaces. The result is employed in order to provide a meromorphic extension of the theta function of an even-dimensional compact locally symmetric space of non-compact type. Moreover we give a short derivation of the Selberg trace formula. We discuss the relation between the right hand side of the functional equation of the Selberg zeta function, the Plancherel measure, Weyl's dimension formula and the wave kernel on the non-compact symmetric space and on its compact dual in an explicit manner.The first two authors were supported by the Sonderforschungsbereich 288 Differentialgeometrie und Quantenphysik founded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an efficient spectral‐Galerkin method based on a dimension reduction scheme for eigenvalue problems of Schrödinger equations. Firstly, we carry out a truncation from a three‐dimensional unbounded domain to a bounded spherical domain. By using spherical coordinate transformation and spherical harmonic expansion, we transform the original problem into a series of one‐dimensional eigenvalue problem that can be solved effectively. Secondly, we introduce a weighted Sobolev space to treat the singularity in the effective potential. Using the property of orthogonal polynomials in weighted Sobolev space, the error estimate for the approximate eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions are proved. Error estimates show that our numerical method can achieve spectral accuracy for approximate eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. Finally, we give some numerical examples to demonstrate the efficiency of our algorithms and the correctness of the theoretical results.  相似文献

We define new solutions of the hypergeometric system that are invariant with respect to a parabolic Weyl subgroup. They generalize the spherical functions of an ordered symmetric space. The spectral problem for self-adjoint extensions is studied using the machinery of boundary triplets. For a class of symmetric operators having Weyl functions of a special type we calculate explicitly the spectral projections in the form of operator-valued integrals. This allows one to give a constructive proof of the fact that, in certain intervals, the resulting self-adjoint extensions are unitarily equivalent to the parameterizing boundary operator acting in a smaller space, and one is able to provide an explicit form for the associated unitary transform. Applications to differential operators on metric graphs and to direct sums are discussed.  相似文献

We establish an efficient compatibility criterion for a system of generalized complete intersection type in terms of certain multi-brackets of differential operators. These multi-brackets generalize the higher Jacobi-Mayer brackets, important in the study of evolutionary equations and the integrability problem. We also calculate Spencer δ-cohomology of generalized complete intersections and evaluate the formal functional dimension of the solutions space. This paper is a further development of complex methods in harmonic analysis on semi-simple Lie groups [AG], [BeR], [KrS1,2]. We study the growth behaviour of the holomorphic extension of the orbit map of the spherical vector of an irreducible spherical representation of a real reductive group G when approaching the boundary of the crown domain of the Riemannian symmetric space G/K. In this paper, some properties of the Wiedemann–Coppersmith algorithm are studied. In particular, when the matrix of a linear system is symmetric, an orthogonal basis of the Krylov space is constructed with the help of approximations of formal series from odd steps of this algorithm.
