This paper concentrates on the analysis of the thermal nonequilibrium effects during forced convection in a parallel-plate channel filled with a fluid saturated porous medium. The flow in a channel is described by the Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation and the thermal nonequilibrium effects are accounted for by utilizing the two energy equations model. Applying the perturbation technique, an analytical solution of the problem is obtained. It is established that the temperature difference between the fluid and solid phases for the steady fully developed flow is proportional to the ratio of the flow velocity to the mean velocity. This results in a local thermal equilibrium at the walls of the channel if the Brinkman term which allows for the no-slip boundary condition at the walls is included into the momentum equation.  相似文献

The two-equation model in porous media can describe the local thermal non-equilibrium (LTNE) effects between fluid and solid at REV scale, with the temperature differences in a solid particle neglected. A multi-scale model has been proposed in this study. In the model, the temperature differences in a solid particle are considered by the coupling of the fluid energy equation at REV scale with the heat conduction equation of a solid particle at pore scale. The experiments were conducted to verify the model and numerical strategy. The multi-scale model is more suitable than the two-equation model to predict the LTNE effects in porous media with small thermal conductivity. The effects of particle diameter, mass flow rate, and solid material on the LTNE effects have been investigated numerically when cryogenic nitrogen flows through the porous bed with small thermal conductivity. The results indicate that the temperature difference between solid center and fluid has the same trend at different particle diameters and mass flow rates, while the time to reach the local thermal equilibrium is affected by solid diameter dramatically. The results also show that the temperature difference between solid center and surface is much greater than that between solid surface and fluid. The values of \( \rho {\text{c}} \) for different materials have important influence on the time to reach the local thermal equilibrium between solid and fluid.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the thermal/mechanical characterization of the 6061 aluminum alloy stretched uniaxially in an elevated temperature environment. The resulting response is one of nonequilibrium where each local element reacts differently in terms of stress, strain and temperature. That is, the local strain and temperature rate change from one location to another with time. While the initial temperature in both the specimen and its surrounding are kept constant, thermal oscillation occurs when the specimen is strained uniaxially. The temperature in the solid decreases at first below the reference state and then increases. A reversal of heat flow takes place between the specimen and surrounding medium which typifies the nonequilibrium character of thermal/mechanical behavior in uniaxial specimens.Numerical results are obtained for loading rate of 1.27 × 10−4cm/s with initial equilibrium temperature of 25°, 75°, 125° and 175° C. Determined are the nonequilibrium conditions in the solid and on the surface. This is accomplished by considering a two-phase medium such that the surrounding air or gas can interact with the solid, both thermally and mechanically. The state of affairs at or near the solid/gas interface are transient in character; they cannot be preassigned as boundary conditions. The a priori specification of temperature and/or its gradient on solid cannot be justified as it can seriously affect analytical predictions.  相似文献

We investigate Rayleigh–Benard convection in a porous layer subjected to gravitational and Coriolis body forces, when the fluid and solid phases are not in local thermodynamic equilibrium. The Darcy model (extended to include Coriolis effects and anisotropic permeability) is used to describe the flow, whilst the two-equation model is used for the energy equation (for the solid and fluid phases separately). The linear stability theory is used to evaluate the critical Rayleigh number for the onset of convection and the effect of both thermal and mechanical anisotropy on the critical Rayleigh number is discussed.  相似文献

Following on from Kuhn et al (2010) we study the capability of large eddy simulation with conjugate heat transfer to predict thermal fluctuations with thermal mixing. Wall functions are used to model the wall heat transfer. Comparison with experimental results show that the temperature variance on the outer skin of the solid is well predicted by the simulation. It is shown that the variance of thermal flux in the fluid closely maps the temperature variance at the outer boundary of the solid. Since the variance of thermal flux is closely related to the dissipation of temperature variance it can be concluded that the dissipation of temperature variance in the fluid is linked to temperature variance in the solid. Analysis of the equation of the temperature variance in the solid confirms this is indeed the case. It is the dissipation of temperature variance in the fluid that characterizes how the temperature variance penetrates the solid. Thus RANS modelling can be used to predict thermal variance in solids provided that there is an accurate model for the dissipation of temperature variance at the wall and an equation for the thermal variance in the solid is solved.  相似文献

The validity of the local thermal equilibrium assumption in the transient conjugated forced convection channel flow is investigated analytically. Closed form expressions are presented for the temperatures of the fluid and solid domains and for the criterion which insure the validity of the local thermal equilibrium assumption. It is found that three dimensionless parameters control the local thermal equilibrium assumption. These parameters are the Biot number Bi, the dimensionless channel length ξmax and the solid to fluid total thermal capacity ratio C R. The qualitative and quantitative aspects of the effects of these three parameters on the channel thermalization time are investigated. Received on 9 August 2000  相似文献

This paper uses thermal non-equilibrium model to study transient heat transfer by natural convection of a nanofluid over a vertical wavy surface. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. Three-temperature model is applied to represent the local thermal non-equilibrium among the particle, fluid, and solid-matrix phases. Finite difference method is used to solve the dimensionless governing equations of the problem. The obtained results are displayed in 2D graphs to illustrate the influences of the different physical parameters on local skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt numbers for fluid, particle and solid phases and local Sherwood number. The results for velocity component, nanoparticle volume fraction, fluid temperature, particle temperature and solid-matrix temperature are presented in 3D graphs as a function of the axial and transverse coordinates. All the obtained results are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, the thermo-poroelasticity theory is used to investigate the quasi-static response of temperatures, pore pressure, stress, displacement, and fluid flux around a cylindrical borehole subjected to impact thermal and mechanical loadings in an infinite saturated poroelastic medium. It has been reported in literatures that coupled flow known as thermo-osmosis by which flux is driven by temperature gradient, can significantly change the fluid flux in clay, argillaceous and many other porous materials whose permeability coefficients are very small. This study presents a mathematical model to investigate the coupled effect of thermo-osmosis in saturated porous medium. The energy balance equations presented here fulfill local thermal non-equilibrium condition (LTNE) which is different from the local thermal equilibrium transfer theory, accounting for that temperatures of solid and fluid phases are not the same and governed by different heat transfer equations. Analytical solutions of temperatures, pore pressure, stress, displacement, and fluid flux are obtained in Laplace transform space. Numerical results for a typical clay are used to investigate the effect of thermo-osmosis. The effects of LTNE on temperatures, pore pressure, and stress are also studied in this paper.  相似文献

This article addresses the three-dimensional stretched flow of the Jeffrey fluid with thermal radiation. The thermal conductivity of the fluid varies linearly with respect to temperature. Computations are performed for the velocity and temperature fields. Graphs for the velocity and temperature are plotted to examine the behaviors with different parameters. Numerical values of the local Nusselt number are presented and discussed. The present results are compared with the existing limiting solutions, showing good agreement with each other.  相似文献

A linear stability analysis is carried out to study viscoelastic fluid convection in a horizontal porous layer heated from below and cooled from above when the solid and fluid phases are not in a local thermal equilibrium. The modified Darcy–Brinkman–Maxwell model is used for the momentum equation and two-field model is used for the energy equation each representing the solid and fluid phases separately. The conditions for the onset of stationary and oscillatory convection are obtained analytically. Linear stability analysis suggests that, there is a competition between the processes of viscoelasticity and thermal diffusion that causes the first convective instability to be oscillatory rather than stationary. Elasticity is found to destabilize the system. Besides, the effects of Darcy number, thermal non-equilibrium and the Darcy–Prandtl number on the stability of the system are analyzed in detail.  相似文献

In the present paper an unsteady thermal flow of non-Newtonian fluid is investigated which is of the fiow into axisymmetric mould cavity. In the second part an unsteady thermal flow of upper-convected Maxwell fluid is studied, For the flow into mould cavity the constitutive equation of power-law fluid is used as a rheological model of polymer fluid. The apparent viscosity is considered as a function of shear rate and temperature. A characteristic viscosity is introduced in order to avoid the nonlinearity due to the temperature dependence of the apparent viscosity. As the viscosity of the fluid is relatively high the flow of the thermal fluid can be considered as a flow of fully developed velocity field. However, the temperature field of the fluid fiow is considered as an unsteady one. The governing equations are constitutive equation, momentum equation of steady flow and energy conservation equation of non-steady form. The present system of equations has been solved numerically by the splitting differen  相似文献

The effect of rotation on the onset of thermal convection in a horizontal layer of ferrofluid saturated Brinkman porous medium is investigated in the presence of a uniform vertical magnetic field using a local thermal non-equilibrium (LTNE) model. A two-field model for temperature representing the solid and fluid phases separately is used for energy equation. The condition for the occurrence of stationary and oscillatory convection is obtained analytically. The stability of the system has been analyzed when the magnetic and buoyancy forces are acting together as well as in isolation and the similarities as well as differences between the two are highlighted. In contrast to the non-rotating case, it is shown that decrease in the Darcy number Da and an increase in the ratio of effective viscosity to fluid viscosity Λ is to hasten the onset of stationary convection at high rotation rates and a coupling between these two parameters is identified in destabilizing the system. Asymptotic solutions for both small and large values of scaled interphase heat transfer coefficient H t are presented and compared with those computed numerically. Besides, the influence of magnetic parameters and also parameters representing LTNE on the stability of the system is discussed and the veracity of LTNE model over the LTE model is also analyzed.  相似文献

The mathematical model of flow of a binary salt-water mixture through a porous medium in a wide range of pressure and temperature is developed taking different multiphase thermodynamic equilibria of the mixture into account. Formation of concentrated brine lenses above a degassing magma chamber is investigated within the framework of the model. The lenses are assumed to be coupled with generation of ore deposits. It is shown that the lens formation is caused by phase transitions of two different types undergoing at different depths in the magmatic fluid rising towards the surface. In the shallow zones salt precipitation on the skeleton of the porous medium in the form of a solid phase leads to clogging of pore space and reduction of the permeability. As a result, the magmatic fluid flow towards the surface is blocked and this facilitates the concentrated brine accumulation in a local zone.  相似文献

Double diffusive convection in a fluid-saturated rotating porous layer heated from below and cooled from above is studied when the fluid and solid phases are not in local thermal equilibrium, using both linear and non-linear stability analyses. The Darcy model that includes the time derivative and Coriolis terms is employed as momentum equation. A two-field model that represents the fluid and solid phase temperature fields separately is used for energy equation. The onset criterion for stationary, oscillatory and finite amplitude convection is derived analytically. It is found that small inter-phase heat transfer coefficient has significant effect on the stability of the system. There is a competition between the processes of thermal and solute diffusions that causes the convection to set in through either oscillatory or finite amplitude mode rather than stationary. The effect of solute Rayleigh number, porosity modified conductivity ratio, Lewis number, diffusivity ratio, Vadasz number and Taylor number on the stability of the system is investigated. The non-linear theory based on the truncated representation of Fourier series method predicts the occurrence of subcritical instability in the form of finite amplitude motions. The effect of thermal non-equilibrium on heat and mass transfer is also brought out.  相似文献

A local thermal non-equilibrium model has been considered for the case of thermally fully developed flow within a constant heat flux tube filled with a porous medium. Exact temperature profiles for the fluid and solid phases are found after combining the two individual energy equations and then transforming them into a single ordinary differential equation with respect to the temperature difference between the solid phase and the wall subject to constant heat flux. The exact solutions for the case of metal-foam and air combination reveal that the local thermal equilibrium assumption may fail for the case of constant heat flux wall. The Nusselt number is presented as a function of the Peclet number, which shows a significant increase due to both high stagnant thermal conductivity and thermal dispersion resulting from the presence of the metal-foam.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of transient thermal performance of a rectangular porous fin in the presence of radiation and natural convection heat transfer are considered. The porous fin allows the flow to infiltrate through it and solid–fluid interaction takes place. This study is performed using Darcy’s model to formulate heat transfer equation. To study the thermal performance, three types of cases are considered, namely, long fin, finite length fin with insulated tip and finite length fin with tip exposed. The effects of the porosity parameter Sh, radiation parameter G and the temperature ratio CT on the dimensionless transient temperature distribution and heat transfer rate are discussed.  相似文献
