We consider chiral fermions interacting minimally with abelian and non-abelian gauge fields. Using a path integral approach and exploring the consequences of a mechanism of symmetry restoration, we show that the gauge anomaly has null expectation value in the vacuum for both cases (abelian and non-abelian). We argue that the same mechanism has no possibility to cancel the chiral anomaly, what eliminates competition between chiral and gauge symmetry at full quantum level. We also show that the insertion of the gauge anomaly in arbitrary gauge invariant correlators gives a null result, which points towards anomaly cancellation in the subspace of physical state vectors.  相似文献

We construct a new infinite family of quiver gauge theories which blow down to the Xp,qXp,q quiver gauge theories found by Hanany, Kazakopoulos and Wecht. This family includes a quiver gauge theory for the third del Pezzo surface. We show, using Z-minimization, that these theories generically have irrational R-charges. The AdS/CFT correspondence implies that the dual geometries are irregular toric Sasaki–Einstein manifolds, although we do not know the explicit metrics.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are proven for 't Hooft's consistency conditions to hold at points in the moduli space of supersymmetric gauge theories. Known results for anomaly matching in supersymmetric QCD are rederived as a sample application of the results. The results can be used to show that the anomaly matching conditions hold for s-confining theories.  相似文献

The quadratic and quartic divergences cancel in N = 2 supergravity in photon-photon scattering. They are defined by modified dimensional regularization as the residues of poles at d = 2 and d = 0 dimensions, respectively. Other definitions are shown to violate general coordinate invariance and Yang-Mills invariance. 't Hooft's algorithm for the one-loop divergences is extended to the case of higher-order divergences.  相似文献

The structure of the moduli space of N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories is analyzed from an algebraic geometric viewpoint. The connection between the fundamental fields of the ultraviolet theory, and the gauge-invariant composite fields of the infrared theory is explained in detail. The results are then used to prove an anomaly matching theorem. The theorem is used to study anomaly matching for supersymmetric QCD, and can explain all the known anomaly matching results for this case.  相似文献

In this article we investigate charged particles in gauge theories. After reviewing the physical and theoretical problems, a method to construct charged particles is presented. Explicit solutions are found in the abelian theory and a physical interpretation is given. These solutions and our interpretation of these variables as the true degrees of freedom for charged particles, are then tested in the perturbative domain and are demonstrated to yield infra-red finite, on-shell Green’s functions at all orders of perturbation theory. The extension to collinear divergences is studied and it is shown that this method applies to the case of massless charged particles. The application of these constructions to the charged sectors of the standard model is reviewed and we conclude with a discussion of the successes achieved so far in this programme and a list of open questions. We show that for chiral gauge theories in (1+1) dimensions, with the gauge field coupling only to left(right)-handed fermions, the fermion loop contributions cancel in the vacuum expectation value of gauge invariant quantities, if the regularization of the theory respects the left(right)-handed coupling.  相似文献

Properties of the effective gauge couplings renormalized at finite temperature and density in thermal non-abelian gauge field theories are studied within one-loop approximations. Strong and severe vertex dependence is shown to come out both in the temperature and chemical potential dependences. Difficulties appearing in the perturbative calculation of physical quantities, indicated by the above disaster, are discussed. Also discussed is what insight might be gained from the present analysis into the “magnetic” screening of effective charge.  相似文献

We study the quantization of the SO3 gauge theory which possesses the 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole as a classical solution. The one-monopole sector of this model is constructed in lowest-order perturbation theory, with \(\sqrt \hbar \) as expansion parameter.
