We explored diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) in both planar and computed tomography (CT) modes for early detection of beta amyloid deposition, a hallmark feature in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Since amyloid plaques precede clinical symptoms by years, their early detection is of great interest. These findings were correlated with results from synchrotron infrared microspectroscopic imaging and X-ray fluorescence microscopy, to determine the secondary structure of the amyloid beta protein and metal concentration in the amyloid plaques, respectively. 相似文献

It's not exactly Russian roulette, but scheduling October events outdoors is not risk-free, even in usually sunny California. An overflow crowd or more than 400 registered users, ALS staff, and vendors enjoyed a full indoor program featuring science highlights and work-shops spread over two and a half days from October 18 to October 20, 2004. However, a major storm, heralding the onset of the San Francisco Bay Area rainy season, posed a few weather challenges for the events on the ALS patio. Users' Executive Committee chair Dennis Lindle (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) started the meeting off with a warm welcome to new Berkeley Lab Director Stephen Chu. Coming from a laser-based science background, Chu confessed he was not yet intimately familiar with the ALS but was already hearing that it is one of the best facilities for users to do great science. 相似文献

The 2004 CHESS User Meeting was held on June 18 and 19, 2004, on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The meeting included the dedication ceremony for CHESS's latest addition, G-line. G-line was also featured in this year's CHESS workshop. In order to accommodate the dedication cere-mony in the afternoon of the first day, the user meeting followed a condensed format: The directors' reports were kept to a minimum and staff reports were presented as posters within the general poster session. The User Meeting was opened by User Committee member Lois Pollack (Cornell). The first speaker was CHESS director Sol Gruner, who presented an overview of the achievements in the past running period, in particular the new mode of dedicated CHESS operation whereby dedicated X-ray production and high energy physics (HEP) interleave use of the storage ring. 相似文献

The advantages of synchrotron infrared radiation for micro-spectroscopy have already been demonstrated and exploited in most of the synchrotron facilities. The development of a similar instrument at the ESRF was driven by a twofold motivation. 相似文献

The Pauli paramagnets Th7Fe3, Th7Co3 and Th7Ni3 become superconducting below 1.86 K, 1.83 K and 1.98 K, respectively. These compounds absorb large amounts of hydrogen to form the very hydrogen-rich phases Th7Fe3H30, Th7Co3H22 and Th7Ni3H24. From magnetization studies it is found that hydrogenation results in an increase in the susceptibility of Th7Co3, and in a decrease in the susceptibility of Th7Ni3, but magnetic ordering is not observed in these two. This is in contrast to the behavior of Th7Fe3H30 which is magnetically ordered with a Curie temperature above 350 K. 相似文献

One of the most important requirements for a detector at the ILC is good jet energy resolution. It is widely believed that
the particle flow approach to calorimetry is the key to achieving the goal of 0.3/√E(GeV). This paper describes the current performance of the PandoraPFA particle flow algorithm. For 45 GeV jets in the Tesla TDR detector concept, the ILC jet energy resolution goal is reached.
At higher energies the jet energy resolution becomes worse and can be described by the empirical expression: σ
E
/E ≈ 0.265/√E(GeV) + 1.2 × 10−4
E(GeV).
