In the late 1950s, a 6 GeV electron synchrotron (the CEA) was being built at Harvard/MIT. Ed Purcell, who generally trafficked in volts (or maybe kilovolts), but never gigavolts, was thinking about what one could do with all that synchrotron radiation that otherwise would uselessly warm up the walls of the beamline (I remember well his student Roger Tsien's nice drawing of radiation from kinks in the outgoing E-field lines of an electron in relativistic circular motion; see Figure 1).  相似文献

The Fifth SOLEIL Users' Meeting, attended by no less than 344 participants from 11 countries, took place on January 20–21, 2010, at the Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau) for the six plenary lectures (Photo 1) and parallel sessions, and at SOLEIL for the poster session and the commercial exhibition. 合肥国家同步辐射实验室首期建设的光束线之一用于软X射线显微成像研究。实验站现已装置初型的扫描透射X射线显微镜,并正在进行亲一代的扫描显微建设,同时还使同步辐射光进行接触软X射线呈微成像研究,并对选取的一些生物样品进行了成像试验。本文介绍了合肥同步辐射光源上软X射线显微术实验线站的建设及完成的一些实验结果。  相似文献

A compact high precision eight-axis automatism and two-axis manual soft-ray polarimeter with a multilayer has been designed, constructed, and installed in 3W1B at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). Four operational modes in the same device, which are double-reflection, double-transmission, front-reflection-behind-transmission and front-transmission-behind-reflection, have been realized. It can be used for the polarization analysis of synchrotron radiation. It also can be used to characterize the polarization properties of the optical elements in the soft X-ray energy range. Some experiments with Mo/Si and Cr/C multilayers have been performed by using this polarimeter with good results obtained.  相似文献

Held only weeks after the SRS had delivered its last photon beams (from September 11?12, 2008), the 2008 UK Synchrotron Radiation User Meeting was a mixture of nostalgia, news and next steps. Prof. Chris Hardacre, Chairman of the User Forum, welcomed everyone to the meeting and opened the session reserved for updates from the sources mostly used by the UK community. Dr. Tracy Turner began by showing a short video clip of the last seconds of multibunch user beam at the official SRS switch off ceremony on August 4. Highlighting several recent results to illustrate the point, she described how the SRS had been productive right up to the end with a late surge in operational reliability in both multibunch and single bunch modes. Over 400 papers have already been published this year, and many of these in high impact factor journals. She announced the imminent publication of the final Annual Report and a survey of the economic impact made by the SRS over its lifetime which had been prompted by the impending closure and which will be informative to government and other bodies in assessing the benefits that accrue from investment in large-scale facilities.  相似文献

This paper discusses the main results of synchrotron and undulator radiation experiments performed on the SIRIUS accelerator at Tomsk Polytechnical University. The generation and observation of coherent THz synchrotron radiation from femtosecond electron bunches in the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics femtosecond accelerator device is reported. Although natural synchrotron radiation from charged particles spiraling around magnetic-field lines in space is as old as the stars—for example, the light we see from the Crab Nebula—short-wavelength synchrotron radiation generated by relativistic electrons in circular accelerators is a modern phenomenon. The first observation—literally, since it was visible light that was seen—came at the General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady, New York, on April 24, 1947. In the 68 years since, synchrotron radiation has become a premier research tool for the study of matter in all its varied manifestations, as facilities around the world constantly evolved to provide this light in ever more useful forms.  相似文献

Photo-absorption spectra of formaldehyde (HCHO) is recorded in the range of 6–11.5 eV at various pressures (<0.001–2 mbar) at an average resolution of 1.2 Å using Photophysics beam line at the 450 MeV Indus-1 synchrotron radiation facilities at RRCAT Indore, India. The spectrum is found to consist exclusively of n → Rydberg transitions converging to the ground state of HCHO+. The highest identified Rydberg states, observed up to the first ionization limit of HCHO, correspond to 7s, 11p, 9d, and 12f orbitals. Analyzed electronic spectrum along with the intensities and quantum defects are presented. To interpret the observed weak valence transitions instead of strong valence transitions, a theoretical study of Rydberg and valence electronic states of HCHO is performed in the framework of single configuration interaction (CIS) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) using different basis sets. Electronic transition energies of high-lying singlet and triplet valence states as calculated using TDDFT (B3LYP) level of theory are found to give fairly-good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

The atomic pair distribution function(PDF) reveals the interatomic distance in a material directly in real-space. It is a very powerful method to characterize the local structure of materials. With the help of the third generation synchrotron facility and spallation neutron source worldwide, the PDF method has developed quickly both experimentally and theoretically in recent years. Recently this method was successfully implemented at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF). The data quality is very high and this ensures the applicability of the method to study the subtle structural changes in complex materials. In this article, we introduce in detail this new method and show some experimental data we collected.  相似文献

Infrared absorption measurements showed that the samples belong to type Ia variety of diamond and contained varying concentrations of A and B froms of nitrogen aggregates as well as platelets.The synchrotron radiation was employed to study the structure of these specimens.Growth bands are observed near the center of the crystals situated within(001)and (010) planes in high crystalline quality diamonds and the growth bads parallel to (100)and (010) cyrstalline plane.In the imperfect cystals low-angle boundaries are observed and the angles were determined to be larger than 2.5 degrees,The perfection of diamond crystals has no obvious relationship with the concentration of nitrogen.  相似文献

介绍同步辐射(SR)在惯性约束聚变(ICF)研究中的应用.北京同步辐射光源(BSRF)在专用光运行模式下,束流强度35—110mA,贮存环电子能量2GeV.标定前,首先采用1000PL/mm透射光栅作色散元件,对光源进行单色性研究,用面阵软X光CCD对光斑进行均匀性研究.在3W1B束线上,可用能区50—1550eV,通过不同材料前置滤片抑制高次谐波,获得单色性好于95%的单色光.几年来,对十余种ICF实验诊断用软X光探测元器件及设备进行了能量响应绝对标定.大量实验标定数据被用于ICF实验诊断,提高了ICF实验数据的精度  相似文献
