A topological space X is called linearly Lindelöf if every increasing open cover of X has a countable subcover. It is well known that every Lindelöf space is linearly Lindelöf. The converse implication holds only in particular cases, such as X being countably paracompact or if nw(X)<ℵω.Arhangel?skii and Buzyakova proved that the cardinality of a first countable linearly Lindelöf space does not exceed ℵ02. Consequently, a first countable linearly Lindelöf space is Lindelöf if ℵω>ℵ02. They asked whether every linearly Lindelöf first countable space is Lindelöf in ZFC. This question is supported by the fact that all known linearly Lindelöf not Lindelöf spaces are of character at least ℵω. We answer this question in the negative by constructing a counterexample from MA+ℵω<ℵ02.A modification of Alster?s Michael space that is first countable is presented. 相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the notion of expanding topological space. We define the topological expansion of a topological space via local multi-homeomorphism over coproduct topology, and we prove that the coproduct family associated to any fractal family of topological spaces is expanding. In particular, we prove that the more a topological space expands, the finer the topology of its indexed states is. Using multi-homeomorphisms over associated coproduct topological spaces, we define a locally expandable topological space and we prove that a locally expandable topological space has a topological expansion. Specifically, we prove that the fractal manifold is locally expandable and has a topological expansion. 相似文献

Recently, it has been proved that orthocompactness implies normality for the products of a monotonically normal space and a compact space. It had been known that normality, collectionwise normality and the shrinking property are equivalent for the same products. We extend these two results for the products replacing the compact factor with a factor defined by topological games. It is well known that a mapping is convergence preserving, that is, whenever an infinite series ∑an converges, the series ∑φ(an) converges, if and only if there exists m∈R such that φ(x)=mx in some neighborhood of 0. We explore convergence preserving mappings on Hausdorff topological groups, showing in particular, that if G×G is a Fréchet group, and H has no small subgroups, then a mapping is convergence preserving if and only if there is a neighborhood of the identity in G on which φ is a sequentially continuous homomorphism. 相似文献

Let X be a Suslin-Borel set in a compact space. It is proved that X is either σ-scattered or contains a compact perfect set. No convenient internal characterization of spaces that are productively Lindelöf is known. Perhaps the best general result known is Alster?s internal characterization, under the Continuum Hypothesis, of productively Lindelöf spaces which have a basis of cardinality at most ℵ1. It turns out that topological spaces having Alster?s property are also productively weakly Lindelöf. The weakly Lindelöf spaces form a much larger class of spaces than the Lindelöf spaces. In many instances spaces having Alster?s property satisfy a seemingly stronger version of Alster?s property and consequently are productively X, where X is a covering property stronger than the Lindelöf property. This paper examines the question: When is it the case that a space that is productively X is also productively Y, where X and Y are covering properties related to the Lindelöf property. 相似文献

We show that a Hausdorff paratopological group G admits a topological embedding as a subgroup into a topological product of Hausdorff first-countable (second-countable) paratopological groups if and only if G is ω-balanced (totally ω-narrow) and the Hausdorff number of G is countable, i.e., for every neighbourhood U of the neutral element e of G there exists a countable family γ of neighbourhoods of e such that ?V∈γVV−1⊆U. Similarly, we prove that a regular paratopological group G can be topologically embedded as a subgroup into a topological product of regular first-countable (second-countable) paratopological groups if and only if G is ω-balanced (totally ω-narrow) and the index of regularity of G is countable.As a by-product, we show that a regular totally ω-narrow paratopological group with countable index of regularity is Tychonoff. 相似文献

A notion of separation with respect to an interior operator in topology is introduced and some basic properties are presented. In particular, it is shown that this notion of separation with respect to an interior operator gives rise to a Galois connection between the collection of all subclasses of the class of topological spaces and the collection of all interior operators in topology. We introduce a covering notion depending on two cardinals, which we call O-[μ,λ]-compactness, and which encompasses both pseudocompactness and many other known generalizations of pseudocompactness. For Tychonoff spaces, pseudocompactness turns out to be equivalent to O-[ω,ω]-compactness.We provide several characterizations of O-[μ,λ]-compactness, and we discuss its connection with D-pseudocompactness, for D an ultrafilter. The connection turns out to be rather strict when the above notions are considered with respect to products. In passing, we provide some conditions equivalent to D-pseudocompactness.Finally, we show that our methods provide a unified treatment both for O-[μ,λ]-compactness and for [μ,λ]-compactness. 相似文献

Full subcategories C ? Top of the category of topological spaces, which are algebraic over Set in the sense of Herrlich [2], have pleasant separation properties, mostly subject to additional closedness assumptions. For instance, every C-object is a T1-space, if the two-element discrete space belongs to C. Moreover, if C is closed under the formation of finite powers in Top and even varietal [2], then every C-object is Hausdorff. Hence, the T2-axiom turns out to be (nearly) superfluous in Herrlich's and Strecker's characterization of the category of compact Hausdorff spaces [1], although it is essential for the proof.If we think of C-objects X as universal algebras (with possibly infinite operations), then the subalgebras of X form the closed sets of a compact topology on X, provided that the ordinal spaces [0, β] belong to C. This generalizes a result in [3]. The subalgebra topology is used to prove criterions for the Hausdorffness of every space in C, if C is only algebraic. 相似文献

Let H0(X) (H(X)) denote the set of all (nonempty) closed subsets of X endowed with the Vietoris topology. A basic problem concerning H(X) is to characterize those X for which H(X) is countably compact. We conjecture that u-compactness of X for some u∈ω∗ (or equivalently: all powers of X are countably compact) may be such a characterization. We give some results that point into this direction.We define the property R(κ): for every family of closed subsets of X separated by pairwise disjoint open sets and any family of natural numbers, the product is countably compact, and prove that if H(X) is countably compact for a T2-space X then X satisfies R(κ) for all κ. A space has R(1) iff all its finite powers are countably compact, so this generalizes a theorem of J. Ginsburg: if X is T2 and H(X) is countably compact, then so is Xn for all n<ω. We also prove that, for κ<t, if the T3 space X satisfies a weak form of R(κ), the orbit of every point in X is dense, and X contains κ pairwise disjoint open sets, then Xκ is countably compact. This generalizes the following theorem of J. Cao, T. Nogura, and A. Tomita: if X is T3, homogeneous, and H(X) is countably compact, then so is Xω.Then we study the Frolík sum (also called “one-point countable-compactification”) of a family . We use the Frolík sum to produce countably compact spaces with additional properties (like first countability) whose hyperspaces are not countably compact.
