In this paper, we study the Hodge decompositions ofK-theory and cyclic homology induced by the operations k and k , and in particular the decomposition of the Loday symbols x,y, ...z. Except in special cases, these Loday symbols do not have pure Hodge index. InK n (A) they can project into every componentK n (i) for 2in, and the projection of the Loday symbol x,y, ...,z intoK n (n) is a multiple of the generalized Dennis-Stein symbol x,y, ...,z. Our calculations disprove conjectures of Beilinson and Soulé inK-theory, and of Gerstenhaber and Schack in Hochschild homology.Partially supported by National Security Agency grant MDA904-90-H-4019.Partially supported by National Science Foundation grant DMS-8803497.  相似文献

We establish a rational isomorphism between certain relative versions of Hermitian K-theory and the dihedral homology of simplicial Hermitian rings. This is the dihedral analogue of Goodwillie's result for cyclic homology and algebraic K-theory. In particular, we describe involutions on (negative) cyclic homology and the K-theory of simplicial rings. We show that Goodwillie's map from K-theory to negative cyclic homology can be chosen to preserve involutions. By work of Burghelea and Fiedorowicz the invariants of the involution on K-theory can be identified with symmetric Hermitian K-theory. Finally, we show how the author's chain complex defining dihedral homology can be extended to the left to capture the invariants of the involution on negative cyclic homology.Supported by New Mexico State University, grant No. RC90-051.  相似文献

For finitely generated groups G and H, we prove that there is a weak equivalence G H (G × H) of ku-algebra spectra, where denotes the “unitary deformation K-theory” functor. Additionally, we give spectral sequences for computing the homotopy groups of G and HG in terms of connective K-theory and homology of spaces of G-representations.  相似文献

The main result of this paper is that there is, under a certain hypothesis, an isomorphism between the rational relative hermitian algebraic K-theory and the rational relative dihedral homology. The general line of the proof of the main theorem is an imitation of Goodwillie's paper, Relative algebraic K-theory and cyclic homology, but in a more complicated setting whose details require developing some new techniques. In the proof of the main theorem we use the hermitian Volodin model and some combinatorial calculations using the classical invariant theory of Loday and Procesi. We believe the computations used to prove the main result may be of independent interest.  相似文献

We define the Volodin hermitian algebraic K-theory for a (discrete) ring with an involution and show that it is isomorphic to Karoubi's hermitian algebraic K-theory. We also construct the Volodin model X(R *) of hermitian algebraic K-theory for a simplicial ring R * and show that it is a homotopy fiber of the map B Ô(R *)B Ô(R *)+. We also prove the general linear version of this result, which has been claimed in the existing literature, but whose proof was overlooked.  相似文献

To anycontrolled space over the metric spaceB we can associate itsboundedly controlled algebraic K-theory, a functor designed to give information about the space of stable bounded concordances of manifolds homotopy equivalent toX. Generalizing a construction of D. R. Anderson, F. X. Connolly, S. Ferry, and E. K. Pedersen, we define another functor, calledcontinuously controlled A-theory, which depends only on thetopology of the control space, not itsmetric properties. In the special case whereB=R +, this functor is (more or less by definition) the same asproper A-theory. We prove that under certain conditions on the controlled space the natural transformation from boundedly controlledA-theory to continuously controlledA-theory is a weak homotopy equivalence, and hence defines a generalized homology theory. Continuously controlledK-theory is used in the approaches of G. Carlsson, E. K. Pedersen, and S. Ferry, S. Weinbergervto theK-theory Novikov conjecture.  相似文献

We adapt here the results of the author concerning polynomial operations on the 0th stable cohomotopy to the case of the 0th complex K-theory and consider polynomial operations : Kh, where h is a ring-valued contravariant functor, defined on finite CW-complexes, satisfying some properties. We construct a family of generating operations for the ring Pol(K,h) of all polynomial operations : Kh and doing so, we describe the additive structure of this ring in terms of the h(BU(n)'s. As an illustration of how polynomiality could be used to study operations in the setting of algebraic K-theory, we consider, from our point of view, the well known situation operations : KK on complex K-theory.  相似文献

We study the Mackey structure of the G-spectrum K G C associated to a monoidal G-category C. It is proved that the coefficient system of K G C coincides, as a (graded) Mackey functor, with the system of equivariant K-groups in the sense of Fröhlich and Wall. It is also shown that for any exact category U, there exists a G-spectrum Q G U representing the equivariant K-theory of U in the sense of Dress and Kuku, and that Q G U is naturally G-homotopy equivalent to K G IsoU if every short exact sequence in U splits.  相似文献

A non-Abelian version of algebraic K-theory, based on automorphism of free products rather than automorphisms of free modules, is considered and is related to pseudo-isotopies of 3-manifolds.Sometime after writing this paper I learned that some of the algebraic results in it were first proved by Gersten in [13]. Specifically each of Theorems 3.1, 3.2 and 5.1 in the special case when is the trivial group, and Theorem 3.3 and its corollaries are all results of Gersten. I have left the paper as it is for the sake of completeness and since the approach here often differs considerably from Gersten's.  相似文献

We give a computation of the K-groups of Grassmannians and flag varieties over an arbitrary Noetherian base scheme. We also compute the K-groups of forms of Grassmannians and flag varieties associated to a sheaf of Azumaya algebras. One ingredient in the computation is the extension of the Bott theorem on the cohomology of line bundles on the flag variety (over Q) to a K 0-Bott theorem valid over arbitrary Noetherian base schemes.Partially supported by the NSF.  相似文献

These informal reminiscences, presented at the ICTP 2002 Conference on algebraic K-theory, recount the trajectory in the author's early research, from work on the Serre Conjecture (on projective modules over polynomial algebras), via ideas from algebraic geometry and topology, to the ideas and constructions that eventually contributed to the founding of algebraic K-theory. The solution of the Congruence Subgroup Problem is presented as a pivotal event.  相似文献

We show that the Atiyah–Hirzebruch K-theory of spaces admits a canonical generalization for stratified spaces. For this we study algebraic constructions on stratified vector bundles. In particular the tangent bundle of a stratified manifold is such a stratified vector bundle.  相似文献

LetR be a commutative, semi-local ring,I 1, ...,I s ideals. In this paper, we define therelative Milnor K-groups of (R;I 1, ...,I s ),K p M (R;I 1, ...,I s ), and show that these groups have many of the properties of the usual MilnorK-groups of a field. In particular, assuming a weak condition on the ideals, we show thatK p M (R;I 1, ...,I s ) is isomorphic to the weightp portion of the relative QuillenK-groupK p (R;I 1, ...,I s ), after inverting (p–1)!. We also define the relative group homology of GL n (R;I 1, ...,I s ), and show thatK p M (R;I 1, ...,I s ) is isomorphic toH p (GLp(R;I 1, ...,I s ))/Im(H p (GL p–1 (R;I 1, ...,I s ))). Finally, we consider a generalization to the relative setting of Kato's conjecture asserting that the Galois symbol gives an isomorphism fromK p M (F)/l v to , and show that this relative version of Kato's conjecture implies the Quillen-Lichtenbaum conjectures asserting the Chern class:

The paper is devoted to the study of the KK-theory of Bruhat-Tits buildings. We develop a theory which is analogous to the corresponding theory for manifolds of nonpositive sectional curvature. We construct a C *-algebra and a Dirac element associated to any simplicial complex. In the case of buildings, we construct, moreover, a dual Dirac element and compute its KK-products with the Dirac element. As a consequence, we prove the Novikov conjecture for discrete subgroups of linear adelic groups. In our study, we develop a KK-theoretic Poincaré duality for non-Hausdorff manifolds.Dedicated to Alexander Grothendieck on his sixtieth birthday  相似文献

Let P be a non-Abelian finite p-group, p odd, with cyclic maximal subgroups, and let K(n)*(–) denote the nth Morava K-theory at p. In this paper we determine the algebras K(n)*(BP) and K(n)*(BG) for all groups G with Sylow p-subgroups isomorphic to P, giving further evidence for the fact that Morava K-theory as an invariant of finite groups, is finer than ordinary modp cohomology. We will make a construction of twisted equivariant K-theory for proper actions of discrete groups by using ideas of Lück and Oliver (Topology 40:585–616, 2001) to expand a construction of Adem and Ruan (Comm. Math. Phys. 237:533–556, 2003).  相似文献

We study wild embeddings of S 1 in S n which are tame in a sense introduced by Quinn. We show that if is a finitely presented group with H 1()=H 2()=0, then any finiteness obstruction K 0() can be realized on the complement of such an embedded S 1. We also realize trivially symmetric K –1() obstructions on the complements of such embeddings. For trivially symmetric , the embeddings constructed are shown to be isotopy homogeneous.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the 'semi-topological K-homology' of complex varieties, a theory related to semi-topological K-theory much as connective topological K-homology is related to connective topological K-theory. Our main theorem is that the semi-topological K-homology of a smooth, quasi-projective complex variety Y coincides with the connective topological K-homology of the associated analytic space Y an. From this result, we deduce a pair of results relating semi-topological K-theory with connective topological K-theory. In particular, we prove that the 'Bott inverted' semi-topological K-theory of a smooth, projective complex variety X coincides with the topological K-theory of X an. In combination with a result of Friedlander and the author, this gives a new proof, in the special case of smooth, projective complex varieties, of Thomason's celebrated theorem that 'Bott inverted' algebraic K-theory with /n coefficients coincides with topological K-theory with /n coefficients.  相似文献
