Using the saturable absorber 2-(p-Dimethylaminostyryl)-benzothiazolylethyl iodide, coumarin 6 has been passively mode-locked for the first time to give fully modulated trains of pulses of 4 ps duration and with peak powers of 3 MW tunable over the spectral range 526–547 nm.  相似文献

We investigate collective effects in the strong pinning model of disordered charge and spin density waves (CDWs and SDWs) in connection with heat relaxation experiments. We discuss the classical and quantum limits that contribute to two distinct contribution to the specific heat (a Cv T-2 contribution and a Cv T contribution respectively), with two different types of disorder (strong pinning versus substitutional impurities). From the calculation of the two level system energy splitting distribution in the classical limit we find no slow relaxation in the commensurate case and a broad spectrum of relaxation times in the incommensurate case. In the commensurate case quantum effects restore a non vanishing energy relaxation, and generate stronger disorder effects in incommensurate systems. For substitutional disorder we obtain Friedel oscillations of bound states close to the Fermi energy. With negligible interchain couplings this explains the power-law specific heat Cv T observed in experiments on CDWs and SDWs combined to the power-law susceptibility (T)T-1+ observed in the CDW o-TaS3.  相似文献

By means of a ballistic method a self-consistent large-signal calculation on the gyrotron traveling wave amplifier (gyrotron-TWA) with uniform waveguide and magnetic field has been accomplished. The theory is valid for arbitrary harmonics of the cyclotron frequency and arbitrary TEmn modes.Computer simulation shows that under defined conditions a beam efficiency 50 %, an output power 300 kW and a gain28 dB at a central frequency of 35 GHz with a 3 dB bandwidth of 2,7 % could be obtained. This method will be effective for the theoretical analysis and the parameter-optimization on the gyrotron-TWA.  相似文献

During the last few decades, a variety of methods has been developed which makes use of polarized positive muons as a microscopic probe of the magnetic properties of condensed matter (muon spin rotation, relaxation, resonance,SR). Until now, available beams for SR studies have delivered 100% polarized muons with energies in the MeV range, resulting in a deep penetration of the muons into the sample material under investigation. This presently limits the applications of theSR technique to the study of the bulk characteristics of matter. To be able to control the implantation depth, a very low energy beam of polarized muons is being developed at the Paul Scherrer Institute. Very slow polarized muons (kinetic energy 10 eV, polarization 90%) are obtained from the moderation of a high energy muon beam in a thin film of an appropriate condensed gas. These muons can be used as a source for a beam of tunable energy between a few tens of eV and some tens of keV. Implantation depths in the range of few to a few hundreds of nanometers can thus be achieved by varying the energy.  相似文献

At PSI we are investigating the technique of decelerating an existing very intense secondary beam of surface + (4 MeV) to an energy of 10 eV using appropriate moderators. These + can then be used as a source of a tertiary beam of low energy muons with tunable kinetic energy between 10 eV and 10 keV.With a 1000 A layer of solid Argon deposited on an Al substrate we obtain a moderation efficiency (with respect to the number of incoming surface +) of the order of 10–4.Results of our investigations and the present status of the project are presented together with future plans and possibilities.  相似文献

Experimental and theoretical investigations have been carried out on the efficient operating conditions of an XeF laser with discharge stabilized by an electron beam of duration 50 nsec. The frequency noise characteristics of a single-frequency 2.1-m Tm-Ho:YAG laser have been thoroughly investigated. From the measurement of the frequency noise spectral density, performed by means of an interferometric technique, a short-term laser linewidth of 550 kHz over 1-ms time interval has been obtained. The frequency stability, defined as the two sample standard deviation of the frequency fluctuations with dead time T, has been also evaluated, obtaining values ranging from 250 kHz to 2.5 MHz for T values between 1 and 100 ms over an observation time of 100 ns. It has been shown through a numerical analysis that a significant improvement is achievable, attaining a frequency stability of 25 kHz for T up to 100 ms, by using the Pound–Drever locking technique in connection with a roto-vibrational line of the HBr molecule.  相似文献

Magnetic transitions are described by the critical indices0,1/3,4/3 while some ferroelectric transitions appear to give0,R~1/2,1. It is pointed out that these two sets of values for the critical indices are allowed by the scaling laws and stability conditions near the phase transitions.The authors thank Prof. R. S. The impurity contribution to the resistivity in zero field (T) of dilute hexagonal single crystals of ZnMn, CdMn and MgMn has been studied in the mK range on samples cut parallel () and perpendicular () to thec-axis, using a SQUID technique for the measurements. Typical spin glass behavior is found in (T) as well as (T) for all alloys, with Kondo like logarithmic increases at higher temperatures and maxima atT m at lower temperatures, indicating the influence of impurity interactions. The differences in the corresponding isotropic resistivity poly(T) between the three systems can qualitatively be understood within the framework of a theoretical model by Larsen, describing (T) as a function of universal quantitiesT/T K and RKKY/T K , where RKKY is the RKKY-interaction strength andT K the Kondo temperature. With respect to the two lattice directions studied, the behavior of (T and (T is anisotropic in the Kondo regime as well as in the range where ordering becomes important. While the anisotropy in the Kondo slope can be understood by an anisotropic unitarity limit, the understanding of the anisotropy in region where impurity interactions are important remains problematic.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. S. The thermodynamically favored reaction of solid strontium oxide with gaseous hydrogen sulfide is kinetically enhanced to a large degree by the use of higher surface area nanocrystalline SrO in the form of brush-like collections of metal oxide fibers. An unusual feature is that the reaction SrO + H2S SrS + H2O proceeds stoichiometrically at room temperature, but at higher temperatures the reaction efficiency goes down, apparently due to rapid temperature induced crystal growth of the nanocrystalline SrO. For a large class of independent (site or bond, short- or long-range) percolation models, we show the following: (1) If the percolation densityP (p) is discontinuous atp c , then the critical exponent (defined by the divergence of expected cluster size, nP n (p) (P c P) asp p c ) must satisfy 2. We present the application of a continuous-wave ultra-violet tuneable light source for detection of the hydroxyl radical (OH) using cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy of the Q11(2) and Q21(2) absorption lines in the A2+(v=0)23/2(v=0) band at ca. 308 nm. A tuneable infra-red diode laser operating at 835 nm and either an Ar+ laser or a single frequency continuous-wave intracavity frequency-doubled diode laser, both operating at ca. 488 nm, were used to produce 0.1–0.5 W of tuneable radiation at ca. 308 nm by sum frequency generation in a BaB2O4 crystal. Cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy was used to detect OH generated by UV photolysis of water vapour in argon, nitrogen, neon and helium at atmospheric pressure. A noise-equivalent (1) absorption sensitivity of 2.1×10-7 cm-1Hz-1/2 measured over 128 scans in a time of 1.16 s was demonstrated with mirrors of reflectivity 0.9963 in a cavity of length 58.5 cm for a 2 cm-1 scanning range at a UV power of 0.5 W. An OH detection limit (1) of 3.84×109 moleculecm-3 was estimated in argon at atmospheric pressure. OH collisional broadening in humidified N2, Ar, Ne and He was determined at atmospheric pressure . The anisotropy of dynamic magnetostriction is investigated without external stresses, in extension, and in compression. Results are obtained expressing the (B) dependence for constant elastic stresses and also — () for certain induction values. We present very compact, as short as 20 m long, low-threshold in-plane semiconductor lasers operating at a wavelength of 980 nm, in which microstructured mirrors have been formed at both cavity ends by deep reactive ion etching (RIE). The back mirror consists of a seven-period third order Bragg reflector with a measured reflectivity of 95%. The front mirror has a similar configuration, but consists of three periods with a lower reflectivity (80%) in order to allow output coupling. Lasing has been achieved from 20 m long and 8 m wide devices exhibiting a current threshold of 7 mA. These are among the shortest in-plane Fabry–Perot electrically pumped lasers demonstrated to date. Design issues are discussed, along with experimental data from which values for the reflectivity of the mirrors are derived. State-of-the-art electron beam lithography (EBL) and high-aspect-ratio RIE have been used for device fabrication, while additional strategies are proposed for the further improvement of the device performance.  相似文献

Conclusions For holography using a convergent subject beam arrangement, the effect associated with increased extrafocal information density is most pronounced when the parameter 2ac/F is small. This relationship between the object parameters (a and c) and the characteristics of the holographic system (, F) is encountered most frequently in problems of microfilming (ac) and radar imaging (ac,a 2/F is small). It is only in the case 2acF99 with an accuracy of not worse than 1%, that we can assert that the sizes of the minimal Fourier holograms will coincide.Gorkii State University. We report on the development and comprehensive characterization of a room-temperature single-mode 2-m Tm-Ho:KYF laser. A maximum CW output power of 70 mW at the central wavelength of 2.078 m has been obtained. Using a 5-mm long intracavity birefringent filter the single-mode emission wavelength can be tuned over a range of 40 nm. Both frequency and relative intensity noise have been investigated showing a 1-ms emission linewidth of 600 kHz and an intensity noise spectrum that is quantum-noise limited for Fourier frequencies higher than 1 MHz. From analysis of diffusion diagrams of CO stretching band (25002180 cm–1), bending band (800200 cm–1) and SiO stretching band (1100700 cm–1) measured in a skin surface layer of a bamboo stem (silicate cellulose), azimuthal directions where oscillators oriented were shown as ('=-90) N=a·N-b, with a=28.3, 2×28, 22.7, b=25, 47.5, 10. And N=1,2.....14, N=1, .....6. N=1,2.....16. The optical activity (reflection integral) was shown for the CO stret. band as Mi(N)=a·N+b, with a=21.8, b=42 and N =1,2.....9. And for the bending band as Mi(N)=a·N2 +b·N–c, with a=1.87×101, b=3.73×103, c=7.06×102 with N=1,2.....9. Six stepnized fine series in CO weak reflection bands were confirmed as, and with N=1,2.....22. Mean values of the vibrational quantized states of the A, B and C-series in the SiO stretching weak band with R1.0% were shown as, (meV) with .  相似文献

We propose a scheme for producing high gain recombination X-ray lasers on hydrogen-like Balmer transitions by irradiating fibre targets with a 2 ps Chirped Pulse Amplification CPA beam of a Nd-glass laser facility. Very high gain coefficients for H-like C, N, O, F, Na Balmer transitions are predicted. The optimum electron density and temperature for maximum gain operation scale approximately asN e 4 × 1013 Z 7 cm–3 and Te 7 × 10–3 Z 4 eV, respectively, at the time when maximum lasing gain appears. Significant improvement in gain performance of recombination X-ray lasers is predicted by using CPA ps pulse drivers.  相似文献

After electron irradiation at 15 K of Niobium doped with181Hf the trapping of defects at the Hf impurities was observed by means of the perturbed angular correlation method. The results are interpreted as the formation of Hf-Nb mixed dumbbells which are formed at 5 K and are stable up to 80 K.  相似文献
