We develop a nonlinear theory of soliton-induced waveguides that describe a finite-amplitude probe beam guided by a spatial dark soliton in a saturable nonlinear medium. We suggest an effective way to control the interaction of these soliton-induced waveguides and also show that, in sharp contrast with scalar dark solitons, the dark-soliton waveguides can attract each other and even form stationary bound states. 相似文献

We report the experimental demonstration of spatial nonlinear beam displacement caused by an interface between periodically modulated and uniform quadratic nonlinearity. We observe intensity- and phase-mismatch-dependent spatial beam displacement at 1548 nm in lithium niobate waveguides. The device has the potential to provide a soliton-emission-based, ultrafast all-optical switch. 相似文献

We experimentally show that two-photon path-entangled states can be coherently manipulated by multimode interference in multimode waveguides. By measuring the output two-photon spatial correlation function versus the phase of the input state, we show that multimode waveguides perform as nearly ideal multiport beam splitters at the quantum level, creating a large variety of entangled and separable multipath two-photon states. 相似文献

The fabrication of two-dimensionally confining X-ray waveguides enables the generation of nanoscopic X-ray beams. First applications
of such waveguides for lens-less holographic imaging have already been demonstrated, but were limited by the fabrication methods
and the design. To overcome these limitations, we present here the fabrication process for a second generation of X-ray waveguide
with air or vacuum as guiding channel, based on e-beam lithography, ion etching and subsequent wafer bonding. This is a first
step towards waveguides fulfilling requirements of high transmission and high confinement, since the process can be scaled
down to smaller channel dimensions from the present structures. We address the structuring method used and present results
of first X-ray characterization at synchrotron beamlines, under two entirely different beam settings, corresponding to the
coupling of a coherent beam and an incoherent beam.

We show how to transform multiple real-time photorefractive solitons into permanent two-dimensional single-mode waveguides impressed into the crystalline lattice of the host material. We experimentally demonstrate the writing of soliton waveguides in lithium niobate with blue violet light, at λ?=?405?nm. This wavelength, obtained from a low-cost laser diode, allows very fast writing of soliton waveguides when comparing with the writing process using green light (532?nm). For the same writing time, there is a decrease of?~4 orders of magnitude of the light intensity necessary for writing soliton waveguides in blue. The writing process is investigated and characterized by tuning parameters, such as beam intensity, external field and beam polarization. The IR guiding capability of these soliton waveguides is tested by guiding femtosecond laser pulses at λ?=?1,550?nm. 相似文献

The propagation of a pencil beam in a circuital system of tunnel-coupled waveguides is considered. It is shown that the beam periodically focuses into a point when moving along the trajectory. A maximal number of waveguides supporting the propagation of the beam can be estimated in simple terms. We investigate the propagation of a dual Airy beam in Hermitian and non‐Hermitian waveguides, theoretically and numerically. Optical Bloch oscillations (OBOs) of the beam are demonstrated during propagation in both types of waveguides, and the numerical OBO period is found to be in accordance with the theoretical predictions. The two branches of the dual Airy beam do not display translational symmetry — the peaks will form in one branch only, due to the desynchronized Bragg reflection of the lobes. In the non‐Hermitian waveguides, the dual Airy beam will be damped or amplified during propagation — depending on the imaginary part of the complex potential, which may provide loss or gain to the beam. In the ‐symmetric‐like potential, the dual Airy beam may undergo amplification during propagation, but the total power will exhibit a stair‐like behavior. The non‐reciprocity is also exhibited by the dual Airy beam in such a potential. We believe that our research not only provides a new geometry for optical switches but also deepens the understanding of OBO in dual Airy beams. 相似文献

We demonstrate experimentally that spatial solitons in AlGaAs slab waveguides can be deflected by an electronically induced prism. We demonstrate optical waveguiding of a probe beam at 980 nm by a soliton beam at 780 nm in an organic photorefractive monolithic glass. Both planar and circular waveguides induced by one- and two-dimensional spatial solitons formed as a result of orientationally enhanced photorefractive nonlinearity are produced in the organic glass. We investigate experimentally and numerically a novel method of modifying photorefractive waveguides in a lithium niobate crystal by a guided beam. The guided beam with a strong optical power can change the refractive index of the photorefractive waveguide because of the photorefractive effect. The modification of waveguide structure can be utilized for optical dynamic interconnection. Changes of optical characteristics of a probe beam caused by a modification beam are investigated. Experimental results show that the transmitted power or the peak intensity of the probe beam decreases exponentially as a function of total exposure energy of the modification beam. We also numerically analyze the refractive index change caused by the modification beam in the photorefractive waveguide. The numerical results show good agreement with the experimental results. 相似文献

We introduce a new technique to excite multiple waveguides in fs laser written waveguide arrays. Using a microstructured grating,
we were able to couple almost all of the power of the laser beam into multiple waveguides in one- and two-dimensional lattices.
Tilting the sample a defined phase shift between adjacent waveguides can be obtained, which allows anomalous diffraction and
refraction to be studied.

We experimentally prove that light propagation in a discrete system, i.e., an array of coupled waveguides, exhibits striking anomalies. We show that refraction is restricted to a cone, irrespective of the initial tilt of the beam. Diffraction can be controlled in size and sign by the input conditions. Diffractive beam spreading can even be arrested and diverging light can be focused. The results can be thoroughly theoretically explained. 相似文献

We demonstrate ultrasensitive intensity autocorrelation measurements of subpicosecond optical pulses in the telecommunication band by using aperiodically poled lithium niobate (A-PPLN) waveguides. The tightly confined optical beam in the waveguides and the chirped poling period facilitate simultaneous high second-harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency and broad phase-matching (PM) bandwidth. The resulting measurement sensitivity is 3.2 x 10(-7) mW2, approximately 500 times better than the previous record for intensity autocorrelations. We also show that chirped A-PPLN waveguides retain nearly the same SHG efficiency as the unchirped guide as long as the PM bandwidth is not significantly broader than the input spectrum. 相似文献

通过数值模拟和实验对SBN:Cr晶体中的(1+1)维亮屏蔽空间孤子及其诱导的实时平面光波导的导光特性进行了研究.采用分步束传播法和Petviashvili迭代法对(1+1)维亮屏蔽空间孤子的特性进行了模拟.通过求解本征方程,对孤子诱导平面波导中存在的导波模式进行了数值求解.采用633 nm的He-Ne激光作为孤子诱导光束,532 nm的半导体泵浦的固体激光作为探测光,在固液同成分的SBN:Cr晶体中进行了实验研究.实验结果和数值模拟的结果符合的很好.而且结果表明SBN:Cr晶体中红光诱导的波导可以作为实时光波导. 相似文献
