Let G be a plane bipartite graph and M(G){\cal M}(G) the set of perfect matchings of G. A property that the Z-transformation digraph of perfect matchings of G is acyclic implies a partially ordered relation on M(G){\cal M}(G). It was shown that M(G){\cal M}(G) is a distributive lattice if G is (weakly) elementary. Based on the unit decomposition of alternating cycle systems, in this article we show that the poset M(G){\cal M}(G) is direct sum of finite distributive lattices if G is non-weakly elementary; Further, if G is elementary, then the height of distributive lattice M(G){\cal M}(G) equals the diameter of Z-transformation graph, and both quantities have a sharp upper bound é\fracn(n+2)4ù\lceil\frac{n(n+2)}{4}\rceil, where n denotes the number of inner faces of G.  相似文献

For graph G, its perfect matching polytope Poly(G) is the convex hull of incidence vectors of perfect matchings of G. The graph corresponding to the skeleton of Poly(G) is called the perfect matching graph of G, and denoted by PM(G). It is known that PM(G) is either a hypercube or hamilton connected [D.J. Naddef, W.R. Pulleyblank, Hamiltonicity and combinatorial polyhedra, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 31 (1981) 297-312; D.J. Naddef, W.R. Pulleyblank, Hamiltonicity in (0-1)-polytope, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 37 (1984) 41-52]. In this paper, we give a sharp upper bound of the number of lines for the graphs G whose PM(G) is bipartite in terms of sizes of elementary components of G and the order of G, respectively. Moreover, the corresponding extremal graphs are constructed.  相似文献

Let G be a regular bipartite graph and . We show that there exist perfect matchings of G containing both, an odd and an even number of edges from X if and only if the signed graph , that is a graph G with exactly the edges from X being negative, is not equivalent to . In fact, we prove that for a given signed regular bipartite graph with minimum signature, it is possible to find perfect matchings that contain exactly no negative edges or an arbitrary one preselected negative edge. Moreover, if the underlying graph is cubic, there exists a perfect matching with exactly two preselected negative edges. As an application of our results we show that each signed regular bipartite graph that contains an unbalanced circuit has a 2‐cycle‐cover such that each cycle contains an odd number of negative edges.  相似文献

Matching graphs
The matching graph M(G) of a graph G is that graph whose vertices are the maximum matchings in G and where two vertices M1 and M2 of M(G) are adjacent if and only if |M1M2| = 1. When M(G) is connected, this graph models a metric space whose metric is defined on the set of maximum matchings in G. Which graphs are matching graphs of some graph is not known in general. We determine several forbidden induced subgraphs of matching graphs and add even cycles to the list of known matching graphs. In another direction, we study the behavior of sequences of iterated matching graphs.

A graph is called unicyclic if it owns only one cycle. A matching M is called uniquely restricted in a graph G if it is the unique perfect matching of the subgraph induced by the vertices that M saturates. Clearly, μ r (G) ≤ μ(G), where μ r (G) denotes the size of a maximum uniquely restricted matching, while μ(G) equals the matching number of G. In this paper we study unicyclic bipartite graphs enjoying μ r (G) = μ(G). In particular, we characterize unicyclic bipartite graphs having only uniquely restricted maximum matchings. Finally, we present some polynomial time algorithms recognizing unicyclic bipartite graphs with (only) uniquely restricted maximum matchings.  相似文献

The maximum matching graph M(G) of a graph G is a simple graph whose vertices are the maximum matchings of G and where two maximum matchings are adjacent in M(G) if they differ by exactly one edge. In this paper, we prove that if a graph is isomorphic to its maximum matching graph, then every block of the graph is an odd cycle.  相似文献

We give the solution to the following question of C. D. Godsil[2]: Among the bipartite graphsG with a unique perfect matching and such that a bipartite graph obtains when the edges of the matching are contracted, characterize those having the property thatG +G, whereG + is the bipartite multigraph whose adjacency matrix,B +, is diagonally similar to the inverse of the adjacency matrix ofG put in lower-triangular form. The characterization is thatG must be obtainable from a bipartite graph by adding, to each vertex, a neighbor of degree one. Our approach relies on the association of a directed graph to each pair (G, M) of a bipartite graphG and a perfect matchingM ofG.  相似文献

A graph is nonsingular if its adjacency matrix A(G) is nonsingular. The inverse of a nonsingular graph G is a graph whose adjacency matrix is similar to A(G)?1 via a particular type of similarity. Let H denote the class of connected bipartite graphs with unique perfect matchings. Tifenbach and Kirkland (2009) characterized the unicyclic graphs in H which possess unicyclic inverses. We present a characterization of unicyclic graphs in H which possess bicyclic inverses.  相似文献

A matching M is uniquely restricted in a graph G if its saturated vertices induce a subgraph which has a unique perfect matching, namely M itself [M.C. Golumbic, T. Hirst, M. Lewenstein, Uniquely restricted matchings, Algorithmica 31 (2001) 139-154]. G is a König-Egerváry graph provided α(G)+μ(G)=|V(G)| [R.W. Deming, Independence numbers of graphs—an extension of the König-Egerváry theorem, Discrete Math. 27 (1979) 23-33; F. Sterboul, A characterization of the graphs in which the transversal number equals the matching number, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 27 (1979) 228-229], where μ(G) is the size of a maximum matching and α(G) is the cardinality of a maximum stable set. S is a local maximum stable set of G, and we write SΨ(G), if S is a maximum stable set of the subgraph spanned by SN(S), where N(S) is the neighborhood of S. Nemhauser and Trotter [Vertex packings: structural properties and algorithms, Math. Programming 8 (1975) 232-248], proved that any SΨ(G) is a subset of a maximum stable set of G. In [V.E. Levit, E. Mandrescu, Local maximum stable sets in bipartite graphs with uniquely restricted maximum matchings, Discrete Appl. Math. 132 (2003) 163-174] we have proved that for a bipartite graph G,Ψ(G) is a greedoid on its vertex set if and only if all its maximum matchings are uniquely restricted. In this paper we demonstrate that if G is a triangle-free graph, then Ψ(G) is a greedoid if and only if all its maximum matchings are uniquely restricted and for any SΨ(G), the subgraph spanned by SN(S) is a König-Egerváry graph.  相似文献

The Pfaffian method enumerating perfect matchings of plane graphs was discovered by Kasteleyn. We use this method to enumerate perfect matchings in a type of graphs with reflective symmetry which is different from the symmetric graphs considered in [J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 77 (1997) 67, MATCH—Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. 48 (2003) 117]. Here are some of our results: (1) If G is a reflective symmetric plane graph without vertices on the symmetry axis, then the number of perfect matchings of G can be expressed by a determinant of order |G|/2, where |G| denotes the number of vertices of G. (2) If G contains no subgraph which is, after the contraction of at most one cycle of odd length, an even subdivision of K2,3, then the number of perfect matchings of G×K2 can be expressed by a determinant of order |G|. (3) Let G be a bipartite graph without cycles of length 4s, s{1,2,…}. Then the number of perfect matchings of G×K2 equals ∏(1+θ2)mθ, where the product ranges over all non-negative eigenvalues θ of G and mθ is the multiplicity of eigenvalue θ. Particularly, if T is a tree then the number of perfect matchings of T×K2 equals ∏(1+θ2)mθ, where the product ranges over all non-negative eigenvalues θ of T and mθ is the multiplicity of eigenvalue θ.  相似文献

For 1 ≤ dk, let Kk/d be the graph with vertices 0, 1, …, k ? 1, in which ij if d ≤ |i ? j| ≤ k ? d. The circular chromatic number χc(G) of a graph G is the minimum of those k/d for which G admits a homomorphism to Kk/d. The circular clique number ωc(G) of G is the maximum of those k/d for which Kk/d admits a homomorphism to G. A graph G is circular perfect if for every induced subgraph H of G, we have χc(H) = ωc(H). In this paper, we prove that if G is circular perfect then for every vertex x of G, NG[x] is a perfect graph. Conversely, we prove that if for every vertex x of G, NG[x] is a perfect graph and G ? N[x] is a bipartite graph with no induced P5 (the path with five vertices), then G is a circular perfect graph. In a companion paper, we apply the main result of this paper to prove an analog of Haj?os theorem for circular chromatic number for k/d ≥ 3. Namely, we shall design a few graph operations and prove that for any k/d ≥ 3, starting from the graph Kk/d, one can construct all graphs of circular chromatic number at least k/d by repeatedly applying these graph operations. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Let G be a graph that admits a perfect matching M. A forcing set S for a perfect matching M is a subset of M such that it is contained in no other perfect matchings of G. The smallest cardinality of forcing sets of M is called the forcing number of M. Computing the minimum forcing number of perfect matchings of a graph is an NP-complete problem. In this paper, we consider boron-nitrogen (BN) fullerene graphs, cubic 3-connected plane bipartite graphs with exactly six square faces and other hexagonal faces. We obtain the forcing spectrum of tubular BN-fullerene graphs with cyclic edge-connectivity 3. Then we show that all perfect matchings of any BN-fullerene graphs have the forcing number at least two. Furthermore, we mainly construct all seven BN-fullerene graphs with the minimum forcing number two.  相似文献

A forced cycleC of a graph G is a cycle in G such that G?V(C) has a unique perfect matching. A graph G is a cycle-forced graph if every cycle in G is a forced cycle. In this paper, we give a characterization of cycle-forced hamiltonian bipartite graphs.  相似文献

The energy E(G) of a graph G is defined as the sum of the absolute values of its eigenvalues. A connected graph G of order n is said to be hypoenergetic if E(G)<n. All connected hypoenergetic graphs with maximum degree Δ3 have been characterized. In addition to the four (earlier known) hypoenergetic trees, we now show that complete bipartite graph K2,3 is the only hypoenergetic cycle-containing hypoenergetic graph. By this, the validity of a conjecture by Majstorović et al. has been confirmed.  相似文献

The forcing number or the degree of freedom of a perfect matching M of a graph G is the cardinality of the smallest subset of M that is contained in no other perfect matchings of G. In this paper we show that the forcing numbers of perfect matchings in a fullerene graph are not less than 3 by applying the 2-extendability and cyclic edge-connectivity 5 of fullerene graphs obtained recently, and Kotzig’s classical result about unique perfect matching as well. This lower bound can be achieved by infinitely many fullerene graphs.  相似文献

A minimal blocker in a bipartite graph G is a minimal set of edges the removal of which leaves no perfect matching in G. We give an explicit characterization of the minimal blockers of a bipartite graph G. This result allows us to obtain a polynomial delay algorithm for finding all minimal blockers of a given bipartite graph. Equivalently, we obtain a polynomial delay algorithm for listing the anti‐vertices of the perfect matching polytope of G. We also provide generation algorithms for other related problems, including d‐factors in bipartite graphs, and perfect 2‐matchings in general graphs. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Let G be a graph. For u,vV(G) with distG(u,v)=2, denote JG(u,v)={wNG(u)∩NG(v)|NG(w)NG(u)NG(v){u,v}}. A graph G is called quasi claw-free if JG(u,v)≠ for any u,vV(G) with distG(u,v)=2. In 1986, Thomassen conjectured that every 4-connected line graph is hamiltonian. In this paper we show that every 4-connected line graph of a quasi claw-free graph is hamiltonian connected.  相似文献
