Summary A novel method for the extraction into an aqueous medium of PAHs in soil is described, where sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) is used as micelle former. After optimisation of this step using a multivariate approach, recoveries of the target analytes from spiked soil ranging between 98.3%–99.7% were obtained when the samples were subjected to extraction with 25 mL of an aqueous SDS solution (2.9 10−2 mol L−1) while irradiated with focused microwaves at 240 W for 40 min. The overall method involving determination of the extracted compounds consists of three steps: 1) extraction of the analytes into the aqueous micellar medium assisted by focused microwaves; 2) trapping of the analytes on a C18 cartridge for clean up and preconcentration and; 3) HPLC separation with fluorimetric detection. The method was validated using the certified reference material CRM 524 and the results found were in agreement with the certified values.  相似文献

In this work, a fast microwave assisted extraction procedure was developed and optimized for the heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Cr, Pb and Cd) partitioning in the three-stage sequential extraction procedure proposed by the European Standards, Measurements and Testing (SM&;T) Program, formerly the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR). The microwave oven procedure was optimized to obtain extraction efficiencies similar to the conventional BCR procedure, in less time, while using smaller volumes of reagents. In the optimization process, three variables (extraction time, ramping time and microwave power) were considered as factors and as a response the concentration of different metal ions in each individual BCR fraction. Interactions between analytical factors and their optimized levels were investigated using a central composite design. Extractable metals obtained by both comparable methodologies were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. With the use of optimal microwave conditions, steps 1–3 of the sequential extraction (including the hydrogen peroxide digestion in step 3) could be completed between 21 and 22 min. Detection limits were between 1 and 18 ng l− 1. The accuracy of the proposed method was checked with a certified reference material (CRM) of Lake Sediment BCR 701. Values obtained were in accordance with those reported for the certified material with only a few exceptions. Different origin sediments (river and marine) were analyzed by both BCR and MW procedures, and the results obtained were comparable according to the t-paired-test for a 95% confidence level.  相似文献

A three-step sequential extraction procedure was used to determine the concentration of heavy metal speciation forms in soil. The procedure allows one to identify the pool of heavy metals that can be potentially mobilised under changes in soil pH value or redox potential. It has been shown that similar portions of heavy metals are present in reducible, oxidisable and residual fractions. It was found that soil chemical properties significantly affected the distribution of heavy metals among different fractions and their uptake by vegetables. Cadmium was a dominant element which occurred in the exchangeable fraction—the most bioavailable and potentially toxic.  相似文献

The sequential extraction methods according to Tessier et al. [1], Borovec et al. [2], Zhang and Moore [3] and Hall et al. [4] have been tested for their suitability for arsenic fractionation in samples of artificially prepared mineral mixtures. Mixtures containing different amounts of As-containing phases were prepared so that their compositions corresponded to weathering products on As-bearing ore deposits. A comparison of different procedures on simple mineral mixtures containing calcium arsenate (CaHAsO4·H2O), As-bearing goethite (FeOOH) and arsenopyrite (FeAsS) showed that only the results of the Hall method satisfactorily correspond to the expected arsenic distribution. A detailed verification of the Hall method was subsequently carried out on most complex synthetic mineral mixtures with varying amounts of As-containing kaolinite and carbonate, calcium arsenate, As-bearing goethite and arsenopyrite. The results confirm that the Hall method cannot be fully employed for an accurate As speciation but may be applied for a route identification of As distribution between "labile", "medium-labile" and "residual" forms in heavily polluted soils.  相似文献

The forms and quantities of iron species in corrosion product samples from natural gas pipelines were examined, using a continuous-flow sequential extraction system. Sequential extraction consists of four steps that dissolve water soluble iron (FeSO4), acid soluble iron (FeCO3), reducible iron (Fe-(oxyhydr)oxides) and oxidisable iron (FeS2) fractions, respectively. Selectivity of extracting reagents for particular iron species was evaluated by determination of co-extracted anions, using ion chromatography, and evolved CO2, using indirect flame atomic absorption spectrometer (FAAS). Iron was found predominantly in the reducible fraction (61–99%), indicating that Fe-(oxyhydr)oxides are the major constituents of the corrosion products.   相似文献

Dynamic fractionation has been recognized as an appealing alternative to conventional equilibrium-based sequential extraction procedures (SEPs) for partitioning of trace elements (TE) in environmental solid samples. This paper reports the first attempt for harmonization of flow-through dynamic fractionation using two novel methods, the so-called sequential injection microcolumn (SIMC) extraction and rotating coiled column (RCC) extraction. In SIMC extraction, a column packed with the solid sample is clustered in a sequential injection system, while in RCC, the particulate matter is retained under the action of centrifugal forces. In both methods, the leachants are continuously pumped through the solid substrates by the use of either peristaltic or syringe pumps.A five-step SEP was selected for partitioning of Cu, Pb and Zn in water soluble/exchangeable, acid-soluble, easily reducible, easily oxidizable and moderately reducible fractions from 0.2 to 0.5 g samples at an extractant flow rate of 1.0 mL min−1 prior to leachate analysis by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry.Similarities and discrepancies between both dynamic approaches were ascertained by fractionation of TE in certified reference materials, namely, SRM 2711 Montana Soil and GBW 07311 sediment, and two real soil samples as well. Notwithstanding the different extraction conditions set by both methods, similar trends of metal distribution were in generally found. The most critical parameters for reliable assessment of mobilisable pools of TE in worse-case scenarios are the size-distribution of sample particles, the density of particles, the content of organic matter and the concentration of major elements. For reference materials and a soil rich in organic matter, the extraction in RCC results in slightly higher recoveries of environmentally relevant fractions of TE, whereas SIMC leaching is more effective for calcareous soils.  相似文献

A modified sequential extraction method was developed to characterize arsenic (As) associated with different solid constituents in surficial deposits (sediments), which are unconsolidated glacial deposits overlying bedrock. Current sequential extraction methods produce a significant amount of unresolved As in the residual fraction, but our proposed scheme can fractionate >90% of the As present in sediments. Sediment samples containing different As concentrations (3–35 μg g−1) were used to assess the developed method. The pooled amount of As recovered from all the fractions using the developed method was similar (83–122%) to the total As extracted by acid digestion. The concentrations of As in different fractions using the developed scheme were comparable (89–106%) to the As fractions obtained by other existing methods. The developed method was also evaluated for the sequential extraction of other metals such as copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr) and strontium (Sr) in the sediment samples. The pooled concentrations of these four individual metals from all the fractions were similar (96–104%) to their total concentrations extracted by acid digestion. During method development, we used extractants that did not contain chloride to eliminate formation of polyatomic ions of argon chloride (40Ar35Cl) that interfered with 75As when analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). The results suggest that the developed method can reliably be employed for complete As and other metals’ fractionation in sediments using ICP-MS.  相似文献

The state of heavy metal (Cd, Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb, and Cr) pollution was studied, in 440 texturally different soil profiles in Thessaly, an intensely cultivated region in Central Greece. The study was carried out in 2004 and 2005 on 220 soil samples for each year. Soil samples were classified in three soil orders: Endisols, Alfisols, and Vertisols according to the Soil Taxonomy System. The pseudo-total concentrations of heavy metals were determined by the aqua regia procedure. Heavy metals were also determined after division into four fractions by sequential extraction with (a) acetic acid (exchangeable and specifically adsorbed metals), (b) a reducing agent (bound to Fe/Mn hydroxides), (c) an oxidizing agent (bound to soil organic matter), and (d) aqua regia (bound to mineral structures, residual). The concentrations of all the metals studied were higher in the topsoil (0–30?cm) and lower in the second soil layer (30–60?cm). Concentrations of 70–82% of Cd, 39–64% of Cu, 41–69% of Ni, 29–51% of Zn, 75–89% of Pb, and 52–87% of Cr were found in the first two fractions. Cd appeared to be the most mobile of the metals studied, while Cu and Zn were found in forms associated with soil organic matter. The chemical partitioning patterns of Pb and Cr indicated that these metals are largely associated with the Fe–Mn hydroxides, while Cr was also found in the residual fractions. Significant correlations between heavy metals fractions and soil physicochemical parameters were obtained and discussed.  相似文献

A fully automated modified three-step BCR flow-through sequential extraction method was developed for the fractionation of the arsenic (As) content from agricultural soil based on a multi-syringe flow injection analysis (MSFIA) system coupled to hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS). Critical parameters that affect the performance of the automated system were optimized by exploiting a multivariate approach using a Doehlert design. The validation of the flow-based modified-BCR method was carried out by comparison with the conventional BCR method. Thus, the total As content was determined in the following three fractions: fraction 1 (F1), the acid-soluble or interchangeable fraction; fraction 2 (F2), the reducible fraction; and fraction 3 (F3), the oxidizable fraction. The limits of detection (LOD) were 4.0, 3.4, and 23.6 μg L−1 for F1, F2, and F3, respectively. A wide working concentration range was obtained for the analysis of each fraction, i.e., 0.013–0.800, 0.011–0.900 and 0.079–1.400 mg L−1 for F1, F2, and F3, respectively. The precision of the automated MSFIA–HG-AFS system, expressed as the relative standard deviation (RSD), was evaluated for a 200 μg L−1 As standard solution, and RSD values between 5 and 8% were achieved for the three BCR fractions. The new modified three-step BCR flow-based sequential extraction method was satisfactorily applied for arsenic fractionation in real agricultural soil samples from an arsenic-contaminated mining zone to evaluate its extractability. The frequency of analysis of the proposed method was eight times higher than that of the conventional BCR method (6 vs 48 h), and the kinetics of lixiviation were established for each fraction.  相似文献

In a research of chromium availability, the three-stage sequential extraction procedure, proposed by European Community Bureau of Reference (BCR), has been applied for the metal fractionation in marine sediment samples. The procedure has been modified, evaluating the effect of microwave energy to perform the sequential method. Results achieved a substantial reduction in time in comparison to the traditional shaking technique. The time of the first and the second extractions were reduced to 30 s in both steps using microwave heating and working at 66 W of power. To the third extraction, higher power was necessary so it was chosen to work at 198 W. In the last step investigated, time was reduced to 1 min, being a great improvement respect to the conventional BCR sequential extraction protocol.Chromium determinations in these extracts were carried out by Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (ETAAS). The developed method was applied for chromium determination in marine sediment samples from Ria de Arousa (Galicia, NW of Spain). The values obtained by our laboratory ranged from 0.10 to 1.02 μg g−1 for soluble and reducible fractions, and from 5.5 to 60.0 μg g−1 for the oxidisable fraction. The higher concentrations obtained were the chromium associated with the organic fraction of the marine sediments.  相似文献

A modified three-step sequential extraction procedure proposed by the Commission of European Communities Bureau of Reference (BCR) was applied to certified reference materials of three different soil groups (rendzina, luvisol, and cambisol) and sewage sludge of different compositions originating from a municipal water treatment plant in order to assess potential mobility and the distribution of molybdenum in the resulting fractions. In the soils examined, molybdenum was present almost entirely in the mineral lattice, the content of molybdenum in the fractions of the studied reference materials of sludges was predominant in the fraction, represents Mo bound to organic matter and sulphide. The internal check of accuracy was performed on the results of the sequential extraction by comparing of the extractable amounts of molybdenum in the sequential procedure with the results of the pseudototal digestion of original samples. The recovery ranged from 96 to 101% and the precision (RSD) in the extracts was below 10%.  相似文献

A screening method for linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) in sediments has been developed. Soxhlet extraction with water assisted by focused microwaves provides recoveries better (>90%) than obtained by conventional Soxhlet extraction (70-80%). Coupling of the extractor with an on-line preconcentration/derivatization/detection manifold through a flow injection (FI) interface allows a fully automated screening approach. A yes/no answer can be obtained in less than 2 h (for the whole analytical process), a short time compared with the at least 24 h of Soxhlet extraction (without final detection). Due to the use of water as leaching agent, the proposed method is environmentally friendly.  相似文献

Microwave assisted micellar extraction (MAME) coupled with solid phase microextraction (SPME) and HPLC-UV determination have been used for the determination of five organochlorine pesticides from agricultural soil samples. A non-ionic surfactant, Polyoxyethlylene 10 Lauryl Ether was used, and the different variables for the optimization of MAME and SPME procedures were studied. This method was applied successfully to the determination of these pesticides in several kinds of agricultural soil samples with different characteristics. Most of the compounds studied can be recovered in good yields with R.S.D. lower than 9% and detection limit ranged between 56-96 ng g−1 for the pesticides studied.  相似文献

The luminescence based bacterial sensor strains Pseudomonas fluorescens OS8 (pTPT11) for mercury detection and Pseudomonas fluorescens OS8 (pTPT31) for arsenite detection were used in testing their application in detecting heavy metals in soil extracts. Three different soil types (humus, mineral and clay) were spiked with 1, 100 or 500 μg g−1 Hg2+ or As3+. Samples were taken 1, 14 and 30 days and extracted with water, ammonium acetate, hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid to represent water soluble, bioavailable, organic matter bound and residual fractions, respectively. The lowest mercury-concentration measured using biosensor (0.003 μg kg−1) was considerably lower than by chemical method (0.05 μg kg−1). The sensor strain with pTPT31 appeared to have a useful detection range similar to that of chemical methods. Concentration results with chemical and biosensor analysis were very similar in the case of mercury-spiked samples. Although some of the arsenite samples showed higher variation between methods, it is concluded that the bacteria can be used as an alternative traditional methods for different types of samples.  相似文献

In this work, the original BCR extraction scheme was modified and applied to study the partitioning of metals in fly ashes. In the first step, the water-soluble fraction was investigated here. The next metal fractions were acid-soluble, reducible, and oxidisable. Two kinds of coal fly ash certified reference materials were analysed. Metal concentrations in the extracts were measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The efficiency of the extraction process for each step was examined. The partitioning of metals between the individual fractions was investigated and is discussed.  相似文献

The conventional four-step sequential extraction method and the EDTA and acetic acid single extraction procedures were applied to sewage sludge and sediment samples. The results obtained with these samples for Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn using the Tessier method were compared with those supplied by the two single extraction procedures employed. In addition, the Tessier method was also applied to a reference material, CRM 483, and these results were also compared with the certified EDTA and acetic acid values for this sample. As a result, good agreement was found between the metal contents released in the first three fractions of the Tessier method and those leached by the simpler single extraction procedures for the most of the elements studied. Subsequently, the conventional EDTA and acetic acid extraction methods were accelerated by means of microwave energy, in order to reduce the operating time. The extraction efficiency of the first three fractions of the Tessier method was compared with that obtained using the optimised microwave single extraction procedures and only in sewage sludge and CRM 483 samples were satisfactory results found for all the elements studied, except Cr and Pb. This means that the microwave single extraction procedures optimised in this work could be employed as screening methods to evaluate rapidly the easiest mobilizable heavy metals in these samples, although more samples should be analysed to determine their general applicability. The application of the accelerated single extraction procedures to a reference material, CRM 483, provided satisfactory results for all the elements studied, except for Cr in both methods and for Pb in the acetic acid extracts.  相似文献
