相干光经湍流传输引起光强闪烁效应,理论研究表明利用部分相干光可降低该影响,而相关的实验验证鲜有报道。利用水介质的对流湍流池模拟产生了Rytov方差为0.04~0.16的湍流,进行了弱起伏区湍流中部分相干光及相干光的传输实验,由接收光强计算出其光强闪烁指数随湍流Rytov方差的变化关系。实验结果表明:随着湍流强度的增加,部分相干光与相干光的闪烁效应均增强,但部分相干光的闪烁指数小于相干光。将实验数据与Andrews等人建立的闪烁指数理论模型进行比较,得出了较为一致的结论。  相似文献

Propagation of a partially coherent beam through a Selfoc fiber is considered. The inhomogeneous Helmholtz equations satisfied by the mutual coherence function are solved using the modal expansion. The result is applied to the cases when the incident beam is either incoherent or coherent. An expression for the intensity distribution is also obtained.  相似文献

We study the far-field characteristics of oval-resonator laser diodes made of an GaAs/Al(x)Ga(1-x)As quantum well. The resonator shapes are various oval geometries, thereby probing chaotic and mixed classical dynamics. The far-field pattern shows a pronounced fine structure that strongly depends on the cavity shape. Comparing the experimental data with ray-model simulations for a Fresnel billiard yields convincing agreement for all geometries and reveals the importance of the underlying classical phase space for the lasing characteristics.  相似文献

Tractable analytic expressions are developed for a variety of basic statistical quantities involving a Gaussian-beam wave propagating through a random medium confined to a portion of the propagation path between input and output planes, the limiting case of which defines a thin random phase screen. For a plane wave incident on a phase screen located midway between input and output planes, it is well known that the statistics in the receiver plane are in close agreement with those associated with a plane wave propagating through an extended random medium between input and output planes. For a similar comparison between a phase screen and extended turbulence in the case of a Gaussian-beam wave at the input plane, the present analysis reveals that the phase screen must be positioned between input and output planes differently from the plane-wave case, the position being dependent upon the Fresnel ratio of the Gaussian beam. The analytic results developed in this paper for the thin phase screen model are based on the Kolmogorov power-law spectrum for refractive-index fluctuations and the Rytov approximation. Extension of these results to multiple phase screens is also discussed.  相似文献

The interaction of linearly polarized light with photonic crystals based on bulk and thin-film synthetic opals is studied. Experimental transmission spectra and spectra showing the polarization state of light transmitted through opals are discussed. A change in polarization is found for waves experiencing Bragg diffraction from systems of crystallographic planes of the opal lattice. It is shown that the polarization plane of the incident linearly polarized wave at the exit from photonic crystals can be considerably rotated. In addition, incident linearly polarized light can be transformed to elliptically polarized light with the turned major axis of the polarization ellipse. Analysis of polarization states of transmitted light by using the transfer-matrix theory and homogenization theory revealed good agreement between calculated and experimental spectra.  相似文献

The particular features of the propagation of light in uniaxial chiral liquid crystals with a large pitch of the spiral are considered. There exist forbidden zones in these systems for fairly large angles of incidence of an extraordinary ray. On the one hand, this results in an efficient reflection of the wave from the zone boundary, and, on the other hand, this causes the wave to decay inside the zone. A case of narrow forbidden zones is studied, and it is shown that optical effects that arise upon propagation of rays near turning points are equivalent to the tunnel and over-barrier reflection effects. The angular dependences of the intensities of rays that were refracted in a forbidden zone and transmitted through it are calculated. The percolation effect is experimentally studied in a mixture of a nematic liquid crystal with a chiral addition. The intensity of a transmitted extraordinary ray is studied as a function of the angle of incidence, which determines the width of the forbidden zone. Both the over-barrier reflection and the percolation effects are observed. The calculation results are shown to agree with experiment.  相似文献

A theoretical study is reported of stimulated light scattering, including wave-vector reversal and anomalous transmission, by a coherent phase in electron-hole (e-h) systems of low and high charge-carrier density. For these two cases the coherent phase is taken to be a Bose-Einstein condensate of excitons or a BCS-like state of e-h pairs, respectively. The scattering mechanism is laser-induced coherent recombination of two excitons or two coherent e-h pairs, respectively. The e-h system is assumed to exist within a GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum well or bulk GaAs. The emission rate of two photons with antiparallel momenta is estimated. Multiphoton emission due to multiexciton coherent recombination is covered. Methods for detecting the effects predicted are proposed.  相似文献

Aiming to overcome the low converging rate and susceptibility to the environment in focusing the coherent light through the turbid medium, four-element division algorithm(FEDA) optimization is proposed. Full levels of comparisons with the currently employed element-based algorithms, stepwise sequential algorithm(SSA), and continuous sequential algorithm(CSA) show that FEDA only takes one third of the measurement time to find the optimized solution, which means that FEDA is promising in practical applications, such as for deep tissue imaging.  相似文献

We report focusing of coherent light through opaque scattering materials by control of the incident wavefront. The multiply scattered light forms a focus with a brightness that is up to a factor of 1000 higher than the brightness of the normal diffuse transmission.  相似文献

The propagation properties of partially coherent Hermite—Gaussian beams through non-Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence are studied. The effects of non-Kolmogorov turbulence and beam nonparaxiality on the average intensity evolution and the beam-width spreading are stressed. It is found that the evolution of the average intensity distribution and the beam-width spreading depends on the generalized exponent factor, namely, on the non-Kolmogorov turbulence strength for the paraxial case. For the non-paraxial case the effect of the turbulence is negligible, while the beam-width spreading becomes very large. The analytical results are illustrated numerically and interpreted physically.  相似文献

A theoretical study of light transmission through a polymer with a monolayer ensemble of bipolar nematic droplets under applied electric film is performed. We consider a passive and active hybrid interferometer for phase estimation, which can reach the sub-shot-noise limit in phase sensitivity with only the cheapest coherent sources. This scheme is formed by adding an optical parametric amplifier before a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. It is shown that our hybrid protocol can obtain a better quantum Cramer-Rao bound than the pure active(e.g., SU(1,1)) interferometer, and this precision can be reached by implementing the parity measurements. Furthermore, we also draw a detailed comparison between our scheme and the scheme suggested by Caves[Phys. Rev. D 23 1693(1981)], and it is found that the optimal phase sensitivity gain obtained in our scheme is always larger than that in Caves' scheme.  相似文献

The propagation properties of the off-axis superposition of partially coherent beams through atmospheric turbulence and their beam quality in terms of the mean-squared beam width w(z) and the power in the bucket (PIB) are studied in detail, where the effects of partial coherence, off-axis beam superposition and atmospheric turbulence are considered. The analytical expressions for the intensity, the beam width and the PIB are derived, and illustrative examples are given numerically. It is shown that the maximum intensity Imax and the PIB decrease and w(z) increases as the refraction index structure constant Cn2 increases. Therefore, the turbulence results in a degradation of the beam quality. However, the resulting partially coherent beam with a smaller value of spatial correlation parameter γ and larger values of separate distance xd and beam number M is less affected by the turbulence than that with a larger value of γ and smaller values of xd and M. The main results obtained in this paper are explained physically.  相似文献

推导出了部分相干环状偏心光束在海洋湍流中传输的平均光强和光束质心位置的解析表达式, 并给出了最大光强位置满足的传输方程. 研究发现: 经足够长距离传输后, 在自由空间中最大光强位置比光束质心更靠近传输z轴, 并且其位置随着光束相干参数的增大而靠近传输z 轴, 随着光束偏心参数和遮拦比的增大而远离传输z轴. 但是, 在海洋湍流中最大光强位置趋于质心位置, 并且海洋湍流的增强会加速最大光强位置趋于质心位置的进程. 在海洋湍流中光束的相干性对光束传输特性的影响明显减小. 另一方面, 光束质心位置与光束的相干性、光束传输距离以及海洋湍流均无关系, 并且光束质心位置随着光束偏心参数和遮拦比的增大而远离传输z 轴. 所得结果对工作于水下湍流环境中的部分相干环状偏心光束的应用具有重要意义.  相似文献
