Non-isothermal crystallization behaviors of polyamide 6/clay nanocomposites   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The non-isothermal crystallization behaviors of polyamide 6/clay nanocomposite (PA6CN) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). DSC results showed that the nanometric silicate layers in PA6CN acted as effective nucleation agents. The addition of silicate layers influenced the mechanism of nucleation and the growth of PA6 crystallites. The DSC results also implied an unusual phenomenon, in contrast to PA6, the crystallinity degree of PA6CN increased with increasing cooling rate. XRD results verified this phenomenon and indicated that the addition of silicate layers favored the formation of the γ crystalline form.  相似文献

X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) methods have been used to investigate the crystallization behavior and crystalline structure of hexamethylenediamine (HMDA)‐modified maleic‐anhydride‐grafted polypropylene/clay (PP‐g‐MA/clay) nanocomposites. These nanocomposites have been prepared by using HMDA to graft the PP‐g‐MA (designated as PP‐g‐HMA) and then mixing the PP‐g‐HMA polymer in hot xylene solution, with the organically modified montmorillonite. Both X‐ray diffraction data and transmission electron microscopy images of PP‐g‐HMA/clay nanocomposites indicate that most of the swellable silicate layers are exfoliated and randomly dispersed into PP‐g‐HMA matrix. DSC isothermal results revealed that introducing 5 wt % of clay into the PP‐g‐HMA structure causes strongly heterogeneous nucleation, which induced a change of the crystal growth process from a three‐dimensional crystal growth to a two‐dimensional spherulitic growth. Mechanical properties of PP‐g‐HMA/clay nanocomposites performed by dynamic mechanical analysis show significant improvements in the storage modulus when compared to neat PP‐g‐HMA. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of polyethylene (PE), PE/organic-montmorillonite (Org-MMT) composites were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) with various cooling rates. The Avrami analysis modified by Jeziorny and a method developed by Mo were employed to describe the non-isothermal crystallization process of these samples very well. The difference in the exponent n between PE and PE/Org-MMT nanocomposites, indicated that non-isothermal kinetic crystallization corresponded to tridimensional growth with heterogeneous nucleation. The values of half-time, Zc and F(T) showed that the crystallization rate increased with the increasing of cooling rates for PE and PE/Org-MMT composites, but the crystallization rate of PE/Org-MMT composite was faster than that of PE at a given cooling rate. The method developed by Ozawa did not describe the non-isothermal crystallization process of PE very well. Moreover, the method proposed by Kissinger was used to evaluate the activation energy of the mentioned samples. The results showed that the activation energy of PE/Org-MMT was greatly larger than that of PE. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Highly exfoliated isotactic‐polypropylene/alkyl‐imidazolium modified montmorillonite (PP/IMMT) nanocomposites have been prepared via in situ intercalative polymerization. TEM and XRD results indicated that the obtained composites were highly exfoliated PP/IMMT nanocomposites and the average thickness of IMMT in PP matrix was less than 10 nm, and the distance between adjacent IMMT particles was in the range of 20–200 nm. The isothermal crystallization kinetics of highly exfoliated PP/IMMT nanocomposites were investigated by using differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) and polarized optical microscope (POM). The crystallization half‐time t1/2, crystallization peak time tmax, and the Avrami crystallization rate constant Kn showed that the nanosilicate layers accelerate the overall crystallization rate greatly due to the nucleation effect, and the crystallization rate was increased with the increase in MMT content. Meanwhile, the crystallinity of PP in nanocomposites decreased with the increase in clay content which indicated the PP chains were confined by the nanosilicate layers during the crystallization process. Although the well‐dispersed silicate layers did not have much influence on spherulites growth rate, the nucleation rate and the nuclei density increased significantly. Accordingly, the spherulite size decreased with the increase in MMT content. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 47: 2215–2225, 2009  相似文献

Crystalline structures, nonisothermal crystallization behavior and surface folding free energy of polypropylene (PP)/poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (EVA) blend‐based organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) nanocomposites were investigated by use of wide angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques. Nonisothermal crystallization kinetic analysis was performed using Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny as well as combined Avrami‐Ozawa method. Surface folding free energy and activation energy for PP and nanocomposite samples were also determined employing Hoffman‐Lauritzen's and Vyazovkins's approaches, respectively. The results obtained from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that presence of EVA, which attracts most of the layered silicates, reduces number density of heterogeneous nuclei in the matrix and as a consequence, decreases the nucleation rate. Incorporation of EVA, PP‐g‐MA and OMMT results in a decrease of the chain surface folding free energy level. It was shown that although, OMMT acts as a barrier against the PP macromolecular motion but interestingly, it increases the overall crystallization rate. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymer blends represent an important class of materials in engineering applications. The incorporation of clay nanofiller may provide new opportunities for this type of materials to enhance their applications. This article reports on the effects of clay on the structure and properties of compatibilized and noncompatibilized polymer blends and presents a detailed process for quantitative analysis of the elastic moduli of polymer blend/clay nanocomposites, based on immiscible polystyrene/polypropylene (PS/PP) blends with or without maleated PP as the compatibilizer. The results show that in the noncompatibilized PS/PP/clay nanocomposite clay locates solely in the PS phase, whereas in the compatibilized nanocomposite clay disperses in both phases. The addition of clay to both polymer blends reduces the domain size significantly, modifies the crystallinity and improves the stiffness. The Mori–Tanaka and Christensen's models offer a reasonably good prediction of the elastic moduli of both types of nanocomposites. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel thermosetting polyurethane (TSPU)/organic montmorillonite (OMMT) nanocomposite has been synthesized. N‐diamino octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DODTMAC) was used as an intercalation agent to treat Na+‐montmorillonite (MMT) and form a novel kind of OMMT. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data indicated that the MMT was successfully intercalated by this intercalation agent, as evidenced by the fact that the basal spacing of MMT galleries was expanded from 1.5 to 3.2 nm. This OMMT was used to prepare the TSPU nanocomposites. Both the reinforcing and compatibilizing performance of the filler were investigated. Tensile tests showed that the tensile strength of TSPU/OMMT‐4 was the highest, and was about 3.62 times higher than that of the pure TSPU, and also the elongation at break showed an enhancement. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) measurements illustrated that the glass transition temperature of the TSPU/OMMT‐4 nanocomposite was improved from 0.5 to 6.5 °C, which corresponded to the restriction of the soft segments of TSPU. The highest initial and center temperatures of TSPU/OMMT‐4 obtained from TGA were due to the highest retard effect of the TSPU molecular chains. WAXD studies showed that the formation of the nanocomposites in all the cases with the almost disappearance of the peaks corresponding to the basal spacing of MMT. SEM and TEM were used to investigate the morphologies of the TSPU/OMMT‐4 nanocomposite, and demonstrated that the nanocomposite was comprised of a well dispersion of a mixture of intercalated and exfoliated silicate layers throughout the matrix. It was proposed that the nano‐reinforcing effect caused by the well‐dispersed silicate layers might reduce the amount and size of voids and increase the length of the crack‐spreading path during tensile drawing. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Non-isothermal crystallization of MaterBi-Z (starch-polycaprolactone blend) and its nanocomposites with different clay contents (0, 2.5 and 5 mass%) was studied. The experimental data show that clay can be act both as nucleating or retarding agent depend on the clay content. Kinetic parameters obtained by using a non-linear regression method, i.e., Kamal’s model and Dietz’s modification, were able to describe the non-isothermal crystallization behavior of the studied materials. A full model that takes into account the induction and growth of the crystal during cooling under non-isothermal conditions was used to obtain a continuous cooling transformation diagrams.  相似文献

Polyurethane/organically modified montmorillonite (PU/O‐MMT) nanocomposites were electrospun and the effect of O‐MMT on the morphology and physical properties of the PU/O‐MMT nanofiber mats were investigated for the first time. The average diameters of the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers were ranged from 150 to 410 nm. The conductivities of the PU/O‐MMT solutions were linearly increased with increasing the content of O‐MMT, which caused a decrease in the average diameters of the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers. The as‐electrospun PU and PU/O‐MMT nanofibers were not microphase separated. The exfoliated MMT layers were well distributed within the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers and oriented along the fiber axis. When the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers were annealed, the exfoliated MMT layers hindered the microphase separation of the PU. The electrospinning of PU/O‐MMT nanocomposites resulted in PU nanofiber mats with improved Young's modulus and tensile strength. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crystallization and melting behavior of PP/Mg(OH)2 composites was investigated, and the crystallization kinetic parameters and thermal characteristics were investigated according to the Avrami method. Optical polarizing microscope (POM) analysis suggested that the presence of Mg(OH)2 particles gave rise to an increase in the number of nuclei and a decrease in PP spherulitic size. The Avrami exponent n of the PP and composites increased with increasing crystallization temperature, and markedly deceased with the addition of low Mg(OH)2 content. A significant increase in crystallization kinetic constant, and a decrease in crystallization half time of PP were observed in the presence of Mg(OH)2 particles, indicating a heterogeneous nucleating effect of Mg(OH)2 upon crystallization of PP. The melting temperature and equilibrium melting temperature of PP in the composites decreased with increasing the Mg(OH)2 content, which is directly related to the size of the PP crystals. The difference of PP melting enthalpies in the PP and composites demonstrated that the presence of Mg(OH)2 can effectively enhance the crystalline of PP. The crystallization thermodynamics of PP and composites were studied according to the Hoffman theory. Surface free energy of PP chain folding for crystallization of PP/Mg(OH)2 composites was lower than that of PP, confirming the heterogeneous nucleation effect of Mg(OH)2. However, the evaluation of the nucleation activation energy of PP suggested the presence of a large amount of Mg(OH)2 particles in the PP matrix reduced the mobility of PP segments and restricted the development of PP nucleation. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. X‐ray diffraction methods and differential scanning calorimetry were used to investigate the crystalline structure and crystallization kinetics of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS)/clay nanocomposites. X‐ray diffraction data showed the presence of polymorphism in sPS/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites, which was strongly dependent on the processing conditions (premelting temperature and cooling rate) of the sPS/MMT nanocomposites and on the content of MMT in the sPS/MMT nanocomposites. The α‐crystalline form could be transformed into β‐crystalline forms at higher premelting temperatures. The nonisothermal melt‐crystallization kinetics and melting behavior of the sPS/MMT nanocomposites were also studied at various cooling rates. The correlation of the crystallization kinetics, melting behavior, and crystalline structure of the sPS/MMT nanocomposites was examined. The results indicated that the addition of a small amount of MMT to sPS caused a change in the mechanism of nucleation and the crystal growth of the sPS crystallite. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanocomposite materials composed of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and montmorillonite (MMT) clays were prepared by in situ polymerization. Samples consisted of PET blended with various quantities of either pristine (Na+‐MMT) or organically modified MMT (A10‐MMT). The morphology and thermal and mechanical properties were evaluated for each sample. TEM micrographs, acquired at a 20 nm resolution, provide direct evidence of exfoliation of the clay particles into the PET matrix and show the effect of the alkyl‐modifier on clay dispersibility. The dispersion of PET/A10‐MMT was greater than that observed for the PET/Na+‐MMT nanocomposites. The greatest degree of exfoliation occurred for PET/A10‐MMT 0.5 wt %. However, PET/Na+‐MMT exhibited higher crystallization temperatures and rates suggesting that Na+‐MMT is a more efficient nucleating agent. Both mechanically and thermally, PET/A10‐MMT nanocomposites exhibited superior properties over pure PET. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 46: 1022–1035, 2008  相似文献

Non-isothermal crystallization behavior and melting characteristics of polypropylene (PP) in EPDM/PP and EOC/PP TPVs were studied at various cooling rates using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results revealed that the crystallization of PP in the TPVs occurs at a lower degree of undercooling, relative to neat PP, with smaller size PP crystals. The vulcanized EPDM and EOC particles could accelerate the crystallization of the PP phase either by providing nucleation or by promoting interfacial crystallization. The crystallization exotherm and melting endotherm peaks of the TPVs were broad, and they shifted towards lower temperatures as the cooling rate was increased. The analysis of non-isothermal crystallization kinetics indicates that the crystallization of the PP in the TPVs is heterogeneous nucleation, with two or three-dimensional growth during primary and secondary crystallization. Furthermore, the vulcanized EPDM and EOC particles promote the initial crystallization activation energy of the PP in TPVs to exceed that of the neat PP. The developed mathematical models show an approximately power-law dependence on the cooling rate for the crystallization behavior and the melting characteristics of PP in the TPVs.  相似文献

The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(propylene) (PP) and poly(propylene)/organic‐montmorillonite (PP/Mont) nanocomposite were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) with various cooling rates. The Avrami analysis modified by previous research was used to describe the nonisothermal crystallization process of PP and PP/Mont nanocomposite very well. The values of half‐time and Zc showed that the crystallization rate increased with increasing cooling rates for both PP and PP/Mont nanocomposite, but the crystallization rate of PP/Mont nanocomposite was faster than that of PP at a given cooling rate. The activation energies were estimated by the Kissinger method, and the values were 189.4 and 155.7 kJ/mol for PP and PP/Mont nanocomposite, respectively. PP/Mont nanocomposite could be easily fabricated as original PP, although the addition of organomontmorillonite might accelerate the overall nonisothermal crystallization process. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The isothermal crystallization behavior of layered silicate/starch-polycaprolactone blend nanocomposites was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. The theoretical melting point was higher for the matrix than for nanocomposites. At low clay concentration, the induction time decreased and the overall crystallization rate increased acting as nucleating agent whereas at higher concentrations became retardants. Classical Avrami equation was used to analyze the crystallization kinetic of these materials. n values suggested that clay not only affected the crystallization rate but also influenced the mechanism of crystals growth. An Arrhenius type equation was used for the rate constant (k). Models correctly reproduced the experimental data.  相似文献

The effect of different concentrations of single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) on the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics, morphology, and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) matrix composites obtained by melt compounding was investigated by means of X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, optical and scanning electron microscopy, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. Microscopy showed well‐dispersed nanotube ropes together with small and large aggregates. The modulus was found to increase by about 75% at a level of 0.5 wt % nanotubes. The SWNTs displayed a clear nucleating effect on the PP crystallization, favoring the α crystalline form rather than the β form. The crystallization kinetics analysis showed a significant increase in activation energy on incorporating nanotubes. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
