Successive band-splitting transitions occur in the one-dimensional map xi+1=g(xi),i=0, 1, 2,... withg(x)=x, (0 x 1/2) –x +, (1/2 <x 1) as the parameter is changed from 2 to 1. The transition point fromN (=2n) bands to 2Nbands is given by=(2)1/N (n=0, 1,2,...). The time-correlation function i=xix0/(x0)2,xi xi–xi is studied in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Frobenius-Perron operator of the map. It is shown that, near the transition point=2, i–[(10–42)/17] i,0-[(102-8)/51]i,1 + [(7 + 42)/17](–1)ie–yi, where2(–2) is the damping constant and vanishes at=2, representing the critical slowing-down. This critical phenomenon is in strong contrast to the topologically invariant quantities, such as the Lyapunov exponent, which do not exhibit any anomaly at=2. The asymptotic expression for i has been obtained by deriving an analytic form of i for a sequence of which accumulates to 2 from the above. Near the transition point=(2)1/N, the damping constant of i fori N is given by N=2(N-2)/N. Numerical calculation is also carried out for arbitrary a and is shown to be consistent with the analytic results.  相似文献

We simulate the classical diffusion of a particle of massM in an infinite one-dimensional system of hard point particles of massm in equilibrium. Each computer run corresponds to about 108 collisions of the diffusive particle. We find that (t) 1/t fort large enough, and a crossover from an M m regime where=2 to=3 forM=m. The diffusion constant has a sharp maximum atM=m. We study moments x(t)2 and x(t)4, and examine the behavior ofq 2 (t)=x(t)4/3x(t)22. We find thatq(t)1 (consistent with a normal distribution) in theM limit (for all timest) and in the t limit for allM. A variety of rigorous inequalities for critical exponents is proved. Most notable is the low-temperature Josephson inequalitydv +2 2–. Others are 1 1 +v, 1 1 , 1,d 1 + 1/ (for d),dv, 3 + (for d), 4 , and 2m 2m+2 (form 2). The hypotheses vary; all inequalities are true for the spin-1/2 Ising model with nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic pair interactions.NSF Predoctoral Fellow (1976–1979). A study is made of instability at frequencies close to the electron cyclotron frequency B and its multiples, subject to the presence of two different groups of electrons. It is shown that a mixture of hot and cold electrons ( ph 2 pc 2 ) in the region of frequencies s B, s2 can be unstable with respect to waves of the flute type (k z=0) with maximum increment max ( ph/pc). B, if there exists an interval of transversal velocities in whichF/ >0. When the curvature of the magnetic field is taken into account, even waves with B can be unstable in such a plasma. The effect of spatial inhomogeneity of the hot component on flute-type instability and on two-beam cyclotron instability is also examined.The author extends his thanks to A. B. We consider random discrete Schrödinger operators in a strip with a potentialV (n, ) (n a label in and a finite label across the strip) andV an ergodic process. We use the recently proposed real-space renormalization group method to study the critical behavior of directed percolation system in two dimensions. The correlation length exponents and are found to be 1.76 and 1.15. These results are in good agreements with the best known values.  相似文献

It was shown by A. Neishtadt that dynamical bifurcation, in which the control parameter is varied with a small but finite speed , is characterized by adelay in bifurcation, here denoted j and depending on . Here we study dynamical bifurcation, in the framework and with the language of Landau theory of phase transitions, in the presence of a Gaussian noise of strength . By numerical experiments at fixed = 0, we study the dependence of j on a for order parameters of dimension 3; an exact scaling relation satisfied by the equations permits us to obtain for this the behavior for general . We find that in the smallnoise regime j() a(b ), while in the strong-noise regime j() – ce(–d); we also measure the parameters in these formulas.  相似文献

The contact process onZ has one phase transition; let c be the critical value at which the transition occurs. Let N be the extinction time of the contact process on {0,...,N}. Durrett and Liu (1988), Durrett and Schonmann (1988), and Durrett, Schonmann, and Tanaka (1989) have respectively proved that the subcritical, supercritical, and critical phases can be characterized using a large finite system (instead ofZ) in the following way. There are constants 1() and 2() such that if < c , lim N N /logN = 1/1(); if > c , lim N log N /N = 2(); if = c , lim N N /N= and lim N N /N 4=0 in probability. In this paper we consider the asymmetric contact process onZ when it has two distinct critical values c1< c2. The arguments of Durrett and Liu and of Durrett and Schonmann hold for < c1 and > c2. We show that for [ c1< c2), lim N N /N=-1/, (where i is an edge speed) and for = c2, lim N log N /logN=2 in probability.  相似文献

The usual kinetic equations for the site occupation probabilities in an external field are solved exactly in a simple one-dimensional periodic model with two kinds of atoms using a) free boundary conditions and order of limitsN, 0 needed for a proper treatment of the dc conductivity here b) boundary conditions with metallic contacts and order of limitsN, 0 and c) the same boundary conditions but reversed order of limiting processes 0,N typical of e.g. numerical and percolation treatments. (N and are the number of sites and frequency.) It is demonstrated that though the bulk dc conductivity is the same in all three cases, local bulk properties of the material are strongly dependent on the régime used. The role of the order of all three limiting processes 0,N+ andn+ (Nn+) for local shifts of the chemical potential n in the dc limit is examined (n is the number of the relevant site calculated from a boundary of the chain). It is shown especially that the rate equation treatment (régime a) on the one hand and numerical or percolation treatments (régime c) on the other hand never yield the same bulk values of r.  相似文献

This paper, as a complement to the work of Montroll and Bendler, is concerned with the Lévy-stable distributions and their connection to the dielectric response of dipolar materials in the frequency domain. The necessary and sufficient condition for this connection is found. The presented probabilistic analysis is based on the mathematically correct representation of the meaning of the relaxation function of a system of dipoles and shows why the same form of a distribution of relaxation rates, namely, the completely asymmetric Lévy-stable distribution, should apply in all different relaxing systems. This is in contrast to the traditional definition of the relaxation function, expressed as a weighted average of exponential relaxation functions, which does not explain the universality of the dielectric relaxation law. It also follows from the present considerations that not only is the imaginary part () of the dielectric susceptibility directly related to the Lévy-stable distribution (as was found by Montroll and Bendler), but so is the real part(). As a consequence the relation()/()=cot(n/2) for> p and 0<n<1, implied by experimental results, is obtained.  相似文献

For the Ising model with nearest neighbour interaction it is shown that the spin correlations A B - A B decrease exponentially asd(A, B) in a pure phase when the temperature is well belowT c. This is used to prove that the free energyF(,h) is infinitely differentiable in and has one sided derivatives inh of all orders forh=0. The bounds are also used to prove that the central limit theorem holds for several variables such as e.g. the total energy and the total magnetization of the system, the limit distribution being gaussian with variances determined by the second derivatives ofF(,h).  相似文献

A Milnor-Thurston type dynamical zeta function L (Z) is associated with a family of maps of the interval (–1, 1). Changing the direction of time produces a new zeta function L (Z). The paper gives an analysis of the conditions in the primary circuit of equipment for measuring the magnetization curves of ferromagnets by the ballistic method. It investigates the influence of transitional current states caused by sudden changes in the circuit parameters (commutation, switching off and on of circuit), on the magnetic state of the ferromagnet. In this connection it points out the disadvantages of using the commutational ballistic method compared with the summation ballistic method for measuring the magnetization curves of ferromagnets with rectangular hysteresis loop and very short magnetization reversal time.

The theory of double quantum transitions of the M=±2 type, with regard to inhomogeneously broadened spin systems is studied in this paper with the approximation 2T2T3 1. We suppose that the inhomogeneous broadening is formed by an inhomogeneous crystal field. The obtained results describe the magnitude of absorption as a function of the h.f. power and also describe the shape of the absorption curve. It is demonstrated that in inhomogeneously broadened spin systems the absorption curve of double quantum transitions has the form of the difference of two different Lorentz's curves and that at the saturation ( 2T2T1 1) the absorption increases with the cube of the h.f. field intensity. The shape of the curves is expressed by means of phenomenological relaxation constants of the system.
