The ferromagnetic Heusler-type alloy Ni50Mn35Sb15Ni50Mn35Sb15 exhibits well defined shape memory behaviour. We have investigated the transport and magnetic properties of this alloy across the martensitic transformation. Pronounced thermo-magnetic irreversibility between zero-field-cooled and field-cooled susceptibility data was observed below the martensitic transition temperature. We observe significant magnetic after-effect in magnetisation in both austenite and martensitic phases. However, a clear change in the nature of relaxation is observed as the sample is cooled across the martensitic transition temperature. These observations can be explained on the basis of complex domain dynamics in presence of rich micro-structure formation in the martensite.  相似文献

Temperature and field dependencies of the magnetization of melt-spun ribbons of Ni45.7Mn37.2Ga17.1 (TC<TA) and Ni54.3Mn20.5Ga25.2 (TC>TA), where TA and TC are the reverse martensitic transformation and Curie temperatures, respectively, have been studied in broad ranges of magnetic fields (±30 kOe) and temperatures (10–350 K). It was found that the magnetic and thermomagnetic properties have a number of peculiarities and anomalies. Particularly, the magnetization values measured at both low and high magnetic fields increase significantly after annealing. Low-temperature anomalies of magnetization suggest the presence of the superparamagnetic behavior and/or phenomena related to the concurrent exchange interactions in the as-spun state. The obtained results can be explained by the influence of concentration inhomogeneities and atomic disordering in the rapidly quenched ribbons, which can be reduced by annealing.  相似文献

Evidence of relaxation has been observed in ferromagnetic Ni–Mn–Ga single crystals. The relaxation may be explained by a change in symmetry-conforming short-range ordering according to Ren and Otsuka in this off-stoichimetric ordered alloy. Martensite stabilization has also been found after martensite ageing.  相似文献

This paper presents a formulation of isothermal three-dimensional (3D) quasi-static magneto-mechanical constitutive equations and 3D magnetisation constitutive equations for tetragonal martensite Ni–Mn–Ga FSMA single crystals (c/a<1)(c/a<1) with both ends restrained from twin-boundary motion. The formulated 3D constitutive equations model the 3D quasi-static magnetic fields as well as the coupling between uniaxial strains and stresses, and shear strains and stresses. The constitutive equations are compared with experimental results available in the literature and are found to correlate well with the experimental results, including magnetic field reversals. Both sets of 3D constitutive equations require only macroscopic parameters that are readily obtainable from magnetisation and mechanical stress–strain curves.  相似文献

The effects of Al addition on the precipitation and fracture behaviour of Fe–Mn–Ni alloys were investigated. With the increasing of Al concentration, the matrix and grain boundary precipitates changed from L10 θ-MnNi to B2 Ni2MnAl phase, which is coherent and in cube-to-cube orientation relationship with the α′-matrix. Due to the suppression of the θ-MnNi precipitates at prior austenite grain boundaries (PAGBs), the fracture mode changed from intergranular to transgranular cleavage fracture. Further addition of Al resulted in the discontinuous growth of Ni2MnAl precipitates in the alloy containing 4.2?wt.% Al and fracture occurred by void growth and coalescence, i.e. by ductile dimple rupture. The transition of the fracture behaviour of the Fe–Mn–Ni–Al alloys is discussed in relation to the conversion of the precipitates and their discontinuous precipitation behaviour at PAGBs.  相似文献

Twinning is ubiquitous in electroplated metals. Here, we identify and discuss unique aspects of twinning found in electrodeposited Ni–Mn alloys. Previous reports concluded that the twin boundaries effectively refine the grain size, which enhances mechanical strength. Quantitative measurements from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that the relative boundary length in the as-plated microstructure primarily comprises twin interfaces. Detailed TEM characterization reveals a range of length scales associated with twinning beginning with colonies (~1000?nm) down to the width of individual twins, which is typically <50?nm. We also consider the connection between the crystallographic texture of the electrodeposit and the orientation of the twin planes with respect to the plating direction. The Ni–Mn alloy deposits in this work possess a {110}-fiber texture. While twinning can occur on {111} planes either perpendicular or oblique to the plating direction in {110}-oriented grains, plan-view TEM images show that twins form primarily on those planes parallel to the plating direction. Therefore, grains enclosed by twins and multiply twinned particles are produced. Another important consequence of a high twin density is the formation of large numbers of twin-related junctions. We measure an area density of twin junctions that is comparable to the density of dislocations in a heavily cold-worked metal.  相似文献

We have developed a procedure for x-ray fluorescence determination of the constituent composition and thickness of two-layer Ni–Fe–Mn/Cr films deposited on Polikor, an aluminum oxide ceramic. We have calculated correction coefficients taking into account interelement interference effects in this system. We have experimentally determined the density of the materials making up the composition of the films. We have established and present the metrological characteristics of the procedure developed.  相似文献

We have observed an abnormal electron transport characteristic from the Ni–Mn–Ni triple-layered magnetic thin-films. Due to the intercalated Mn ultra-thin interlayer, the magnetic domain structure and the electron transport characteristic differ a lot from their original magnetic (Fe, Co, and Ni) films. As inspected by a magnetic force microscopy (MFM), we observed the variation of the domain configuration with Mn interlayer thicknesses (for 1, 5, and 10 nm). Moreover, we also examined and found that the direct current (DC) resistivity have no significant change as the current conducts from the current-in-wall (CIW) to the current- perpendicular-to-wall (CPW), which are opposite to the results of single layered films.  相似文献

Abstract

To obtain a direct non-magnetic analogy to Ni–Mn–Ga 10M martensite with highly mobile twin boundaries, we present the recalculation of twinning systems in Cu–Ni–Al martensite. In this approach, the twinning planes denoted as Type I, Type II and compound have similar orientations for both alloys (Ni–Mn–Ga and Cu–Ni–Al). In Cu–Ni–Al, compound twinning exhibits the twinning stress of 1 to 2 MPa comparable to twining stress of Ni–Mn–Ga. In contrast Type II twinning stress of Cu–Ni–Al is approximately 20 MPa, i.e. much higher than twinning stress for Type II in Ni–Mn–Ga (0.1 to 0.3 MPa). Similarly to Ni–Mn–Ga, the twinning stress of Type II in Cu–Ni–Al is temperature independent. Moreover, no temperature dependence was found also for compound twinning in Cu–Ni–Al.  相似文献

Results of the first-principles calculations of the magnetic shape-memory alloy NiMnAl are presented. The properties of a series of alloys in the composition range Ni50Mn x Al50? x with 0 ≤ x ≤ 50 were deduced from the ab initio simulations. One essential result is that the alloy is ferromagnetic in the range from 14 to 31?at.% Mn. Furthermore, the martensitic phases 2?M, 10?M, and 14?M with long-periodic structure were calculated. They are metastable in the stoichiometric Ni2MnAl alloy due to additional bonding between specific atomic sites. Their properties are discussed in terms of the density of states and their charge distribution.  相似文献

We report on new aspects of martensite stabilization in high-temperature shape memory alloys. We show that, due to the difference in activation energies among various structural defects, an incomplete stabilization of martensite can be realized. In material aged at high temperatures, this gives rise to a variety of unusual features which are found to occur in the martensitic transformation. Specifically, it is shown that both forward and reverse martensitic transformations in a Ni–Mn–Ga high-temperature shape memory alloy can occur in two steps. The observed abnormal behaviour is evidence that, in certain circumstances, thermoelastic martensitic transformation can be induced by diffusion.  相似文献

In the present study, the influence of aluminium (Al) addition on the martensite-austenite phase transformation and exchange bias of Ni–Mn–Sb films have been investigated. Ni–Mn–Sb–Al films with different Al concentration (∼0–5.6%) were deposited by co-sputtering of Ni–Mn–Sb and Al targets. Experimental results revealed the decrease in martensitic transformation temperature with increasing Al content upto a certain extent (3.3%) beyond which martensitic transformation was suppressed. Paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition temperature (TC) also decreased with increasing Al concentration. Ni50Mn36.3Sb10.4Al3.3 thin film showed significant improvement in exchange bias field as compared to pure Ni50.3Mn36.9Sb12.8 thin film. This enhancement in the exchange bias field HEB = 611 Oe at 10 K is attributed to the increase of AFM-FM interactions that result from the decrease of Mn–Mn distance due to the incorporation of Al atoms. This behaviour is an additional property of the FSMA thin films apart from various other multifunctional properties and therefore, is of technological importance for their applications in magnetic storage devices.  相似文献

In this paper, we report a preparation of multiferroic heterostructure from thin film of Ni–Mn–Ga (NMG) alloy and lead magnesium niobate–lead titanate (PMN–PT) with effective magnetoelectric (ME) coupling between the film as ferromagnetic material and PMN–PT as piezoelectric material. The heterostructure was prepared by relatively low temperature (400 °C) deposition of the film on single crystal of piezoelectric PMN–PT substrate using rf magnetron co-sputtering of Ni50Mn50 and Ni50Ga50 targets. Magnetic measurements by Superconducting Quantum Interference Design (SQIUD) Magnetometer and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) on the film revealed that the film is in ferromagnetically ordered martensitic state at room temperature with saturation magnetization of ∼240 emu/cm3 and Curie temperature of ∼337 K. Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) measurement done at room temperature on the substrate showed the presence of expected hysteresis loop confirming the stability of the piezoelectric state of the substrate after deposition. Room temperature ME voltage coefficient (αME) of the heterostructure was measured as a function of applied bias dc magnetic field in Longitudinal–Transverse (L–T) ME coupling mode by lock-in technique. A maximum ME coefficient αME of 3.02 mV/cm Oe was measured for multiferroic NMG/PMN–PT heterostructure which demonstrates that there is ME coupling between the film as ferromagnetic material and PMN–PT as piezoelectric material.  相似文献

A ferromagnetic shape memory composite of Ni–Mn–Ga and Fe–Ga was fabricated by using spark plasma sintering method. The magnetic and mechanical properties of the composite were investigated. Compared to the Ni–Mn–Ga alloy, the threshold field for magnetic-field-induced strain in the composite is clearly reduced owing to the assistance of internal stress generated from Fe–Ga. Meanwhile, the ductility has been significantly improved in the composite. A fracture strain of 26% and a compressive strength of 1600 MPa were achieved.  相似文献

Ni–Mn-based metamagnetic shape memory alloys have been proposed as potential elastocaloric refrigerants. The intrinsic brittleness of the alloys has limited their cooling application. Introducing a soft second phase is an effective way to reduce the brittleness. From the viewpoint of application, the effect of second phase on elastocaloric effect should be illustrated. In this paper, we have investigated the microstructure, martensitic transformation and elastocaloric effect of Ni45Mn37-xIn13Co5Crx (x=0,1 and 2) polycrystalline alloys. Single-phase and precipitates-containing microstructures are obtained for the undoped and doped alloys, respectively. The precipitates in Cr-doped alloys enhances the fracture strength but significantly hinders the martensitic transformation. Balancing the fracture strength and martensitic transformation, the Ni45Mn36In13Co5Cr alloy with small amount of precipitates along grain boundaries exhibits large cooling effects of 4–6 K in the temperature range of 317–353 K.  相似文献

The chemical order of three off-stoichiometry Ni–Mn–Ga compositions has been measured in the austenitic phase using powder and single-crystal neutron diffraction. The compositions studied, 48–52 at.% nickel, having excess manganese and deficient in gallium, are of technical interest due to the observed large room-temperature, magnetic-field-induced strain. It has been determined that compositions with less than 50% nickel have the excess Mn atoms occupying Ni and Ga sites. Compositions enriched in nickel are best fit with Ni atoms in excess of 50% occupying Mn sites while the excess and displaced Mn occupy Ga sites. The saturation magnetic moments calculated from the site occupations determined here and using Ni and Mn moments reported for Ni2MnGa, agree within 4% with the low-temperature measured moments.  相似文献

Some specific features of the crystal and magnetic structures of granular powder spinel-like ferrites Mn0.160Mg0.404Zn0.448Fe2O4, Mn0.676Zn0.227Fe0.09Fe2O4, Mn0.5792Zn0.2597Fe0.1612Fe2O4, and Ni0.32Zn0.68Fe2O4 have been studied by neutron diffraction. It has been established that the crystal structure of all the studied compounds has a cubic symmetry with space group Fd\(\bar 3\)m. Ferrimagnetic ordering is observed in all the studied structures. Based on the experimental data, the unit cell parameters and interatomic bond lengths of the studied compounds are determined alongside with the distribution of cations between octahedral and tetrahedral crystallographic positions in their cubic crystal structure. Corresponding average magnetic moments are calculated for different positions in their cubic structure. Some structural mechanisms of the formation of magnetic properties depending on the level of doping and the size of powder grains are discussed.  相似文献
