We report the observation of L-valley conduction intersubband absorption together with Γ- valence intersubband in optically excited undopeal, indirect binary-binary short period GaSb/AlSb superlattices. The transitions were identified by comparing their position and polarization with calculations which take into account both valence and conduction subbands. The dependence of the intersubband absorption on the temperature, excitation intensity and modulation frequency, indicates that the photoexcited carriers are trapped with an activation energy of ≃50 meV and are long lived (≃5μ sec).  相似文献

In the presence of a normally incident mid-IR pulsed laser field, phonon-assisted photon absorption by both intrasubband and intersubband phonon scattering of conduction electrons in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells are predicted. The novel non-resonant and non-linear intersubband absorption is found by including the photon-induced phonon scattering process in a Boltzmann equation for phonon energies smaller than the energy separation between two electron subbands in the quantum well. The predicted phonon-assisted photon absorption by intersubband transitions of electrons from the first to the second subband is a unique feature in quantum-well systems and is expected to have a significant effect on the electron populations in both subbands.  相似文献

We measured the angular dependence of the three recoil-proton polarization components in two-body photodisintegration of the deuteron at a photon energy of 2 GeV. These new data provide a benchmark for calculations based on quantum chromodynamics. Two of the five existing models have made predictions of polarization observables. Both explain the longitudinal polarization transfer satisfactorily. Transverse polarizations are not well described, but suggest isovector dominance.  相似文献

Spin polarization in semiconductors was investigated by pump-probe measurements, where the transmissions of the samples were monitored with probe pulses with same and opposite circular polarizations. The spin polarization as a function of the pump-probe delay was estimated, and the polarization was found to decay in a sub-ns timescale. It was also found that the polarization depends strongly on photon energy of the pump beam. The pumping energy dependence of the spin polarization was discussed based on the inter-band transition probabilities.  相似文献

The incorporation of impurities in films of Bi-substituted iron garnets grown by liquid phase epitaxy has been studied by successively adding small amounts of SiO2 and CaCO3 to the melt before film growth. It is found that very small additions of CaCO3 to the melt profoundly influences the optical absorption coefficient and the electrical properties. The impurity absorption ofn-type YIG doped with Si4+ and Pb2+ ions is investigated and its wavelength dependence compared to that ofp-type YIG. The optical transitions involved in the impurity absorption of iron garnets are discussed in terms of transition reaction, photon energy and dependence on the impurity concentration. Depending on the photon energy, one or several transitions may give rise to impurity absorption.  相似文献

We study Compton scattering on the ground state of the hydrogen atom in the presence of an intense low-frequency electric field (the laser) of arbitrary polarization, for incident and scattered photons of energies around 15 keV. The adopted formalism is the nonrelativistic one developed by Voitkiv et al. [J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 36, 1907 (2003)] and applied by them for a circularly polarized laser. We explore the spectrum and the electron energy distribution in their dependence on the incident photon energy or electric field intensity, for different polarizations.  相似文献

We discuss the interference effects due to coherent transitions involving more than one photon in exotic atoms. It is found that the populations are not influenced by this interference. In the case of muonic atoms there is an influence on the polarizations under specific conditions.  相似文献

In the atmospheric plasma of a strongly magnetized neutron star, vacuum polarization can induce a Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein type resonance across which an x-ray photon may (depending on its energy) convert from one mode into the other, with significant changes in opacities and polarizations. We show that this vacuum resonance effect gives rise to a unique energy-dependent polarization signature in the surface emission from neutron stars. The detection of polarized x rays from neutron stars can provide a direct probe of strong-field quantum electrodynamics and constrain the neutron star magnetic field and geometry.  相似文献

We investigate the dependence of four-wave mixing response on the photon energy close to the fundamental exciton (X) resonance in GaAs quantum wells. We find that cross-polarised incident fields give rise to a non-linear signal which decays faster at energies below the X line centre than above. We show that this behaviour cannot be assigned to biexciton transitions alone but rather suggests that the delocalised X states above the mobility edge are excited off-resonantly by the laser light having slightly lower energies.  相似文献

The structure of the electron spectrum is investigated and selection rules are found for transitions between magnetic subbands in a surface 2D superlattice of quantum dots in a perpendicular magnetic field. The photon absorption probabilities are calculated, and the profiles of the absorption lines are determined for allowed and forbidden direct dipole transitions between subbands split off from different Landau levels. 利用皮秒Nd:YAG脉冲激光器作为激发光源,测量出光子能量介于1.36 μm (0.912 eV)—1.80 μm (0.689 eV)之间的硅间接跃迁双光子吸收系数谱.尽管此波段范围内的激光光子能量小于硅间接带隙,但当激光辐照在硅基光电二极管受光面时,在二极管两电极端仍然探测到了显著的脉冲光伏信号.光伏信号峰值强度与入射光强呈二次幂函数关系,表明其是双光子吸收过程.采用pn结等效结电容充放电模型,将光伏响应信号峰值与入射光强相关联,从中提取出硅的间接跃迁双光子吸收系数,改变入射波长得到系数谱.研究表明:  相似文献

This paper solves the problem of the interaction of an electron and positron via the field of soft and hard photons with emission or absorption of a real photon. The interaction is interpreted as a third-order QED effect in the coordinate representation. The role of intermediate states with positive and negative frequencies is studied. A general expression is derived for the matrix elements of the operator of the effective electron-positron interaction energy for different types of quantum transitions. The expression makes it possible to calculate the probabilities of the corresponding transitions in the nonrelativistic approximation. Electric dipole transitions in the positronium atom accompanied by emission (absorption) of an optical photon are investigated. Two-particle wave functions of the positronium atom are used to introduce the concept of polarization fields inside the positronium atom. It is found that the polarization fields depend on the coordinates and time and on the choice of the pair of states between which a quantum transition with emission or absorption of a photon takes place. We report the first kinematically complete study of the four-body fragmentation of the D2 molecule following absorption of a single photon. For equal energy sharing of the two electrons and a photon energy of 75.5 eV, we observed the relaxation of one of the selection rules valid for He photo-double-ionization and a strong dependence of the electron angular distribution on the orientation of the molecular axis. This effect is reproduced by a model in which a pair of photoionization amplitudes is introduced for the light polarization parallel and perpendicular to the molecular axis.  相似文献

The absorption near the fundamental edge of Cd1-xMnxSe was measured in the composition range 0<x<0.3 at room and liquid nitrogen temperature with the electric field of the radiation parallel and perpendicular to the hexagonal axis. An exponential dependence of the absorption coefficient versus photon energy was found, and a linear dependence of energy gap E0 on composition was obtained. The room temperature reflectivity measurements in the energy range 2.5–5.2eV, for two polarization of light were performed, and a linear dependence of the interband transitions energies vs. alloy composition was found.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study of the propagation properties of polarized photons passing through the cavity with an anisotropic metamaterial. We find that the resonant peaks of transmission appear for photons polarized in a certain direction corresponding to a negative element of the permittivity tensor. This indicates the potential for applying such cavity structures as filters for photons with certain polarizations. The resonant peak of transmission for photons having a given frequency can be achieved by adjusting the thicknesses of the air and metamaterial. If the frequency of the incident photons and the thickness of the metamaterial are fixed, the cavity structure can be used as a photon switch controlled by the thickness of the air. The effect of the absorption is considered, and the result shows that the transmission peak always appears, even for metamaterials with large absorption. Finally, the polarization manipulation of such structures is explored.  相似文献

A double quantum well affected by external alternating electric field with in- and out-of-plane components is studied. This field causes transitions between near-degenerate states located in different wells. The phototransitions are accompanied by the in-plane momentum nonconservation caused by the impurity scattering. We study the in-plane stationary current due to the lack of the in-plane symmetry of these indirect phototransitions. It is shown that the value and direction of the current are determined by the polarization of light. The linear and circular photogalvanic coefficients are found. When the photon energy approaches the distance between subbands these coefficients have their symmetric and antisymmetric resonance behaviors, respectively.  相似文献

We report on a field-dependent photoluminescence (PL) emission rate for the transitions between band states in modulation-doped CdTe/Cd1−xMgxTe single quantum wells in the integer quantum Hall region. The recombination time observed for the magneto-PL spectra varies in concomitance with the integer quantum Hall plateaus. Furthermore, different PL decay times were observed for the two circular polarizations, i.e. for the transitions between the Zeeman split subbands of the Landau levels. We analyzed the data in comparison with the experimentally determined spin polarization of the conduction electrons and the Zeeman splitting of the valence band. Furthermore, we discuss the relevance of the spin polarization of the conduction electrons, the electron–hole exchange interaction and the spin-flip processes of the hole states for the PL decay time.  相似文献

The probability of emission of a single-photon via Raman scattering of laser pulse on the three-level Λ - type atom in microcavity is studied. The duration of the pulse is considered to be short enough, so that the hyperfine structure of the upper level remains totally unresolved, while that of the lower level is totally resolved. The coherent laser pulse is assumed to be in resonance with the transition between one hyperfine-structure component of the lower atomic level and all hyperfine-structure components of the upper level, while the quantized cavity field is assumed to be in resonance with the transition between the other hyperfine-structure component of the lower level and all components of the upper one. The dependence of the photon emission probability on the mutual orientation of polarization vectors of the cavity mode and of the coherent laser pulse is analyzed. Particularly, the case is investigated, when the total electronic angular momentum of the lower atomic level equals 1/2, which is true for the ground states of alkali atoms employed in the experiments on deterministic single-photon emission. It is shown, that in this case the probability of photon emission equals zero for collinear polarizations of the photon and of the laser pulse, and the probability obtains its maximum value, when the angle between their polarizations equals 60°.  相似文献

The optical anisotropy of InS single crystals in the range of photon energy from 1.8 to 3.5 eV has been studied by absorption, electroreflectance and wavelength-derivative reflectance measurements. These systematic optical measurements for the polarizations, E//a and E//b, have revealed that the transition at the fundamental absorption edge of InS is allowed for E//b, and there exist three distinct doublet transitions having different selection rules in the photon energy region from 2 to 3.5 eV; Bo and B'0doublet allowed only for E//b, A0 and A'0 allowed only for E//a, and E1 and E'1 allowed for both polarizations. The observed results are discussed based on the anisotropic nature of two chemical bonds in InS, cation-cation and cation-anion.  相似文献
