In the case of nonlinear elastic quasitransverse waves in composite media described by nonlinear hyperbolic equations, we study the nonuniqueness problem for solutions of a standard self-similar problem such as the problem of the decay of an arbitrary discontinuity. The system of equations is supplemented with terms describing dissipation and dispersion whose influence is manifested in small-scale processes. We construct solutions numerically and consider self-similar asymptotic approximations of the obtained solution of the equations with the initial data in the form of a “spreading” discontinuity for large times. The present paper is devoted to the problem of global existence of sufficiently regular solutions to two- and three-dimensional equations of a compressible non-Newtonian fluid. In the case of the potential stress tensor, we develop a technique for deriving energy identities that do not contain derivatives of density. On the basis of these identities, in the case of sufficiently rapidly increasing potentials, we obtain an extended system ofa priori estimates for the equations mentioned above. We also study the related problem of estimating solutions to the nonlinear elliptic system generated by the stress tensor. We consider the problem of contact interaction between a semiinfinite stamp with rectilinear base and an elastic strip with one rigid side. Friction forces in the contact region are taken into account. These forces lead to the division of the contact region into slipping and adhesion zones. With the use of the Wiener–Hopf method, a system of integral equations is reduced to an infinite system of algebraic equations. The computational results of stresses and strains at the boundary and at inner points of the elastic strip are presented. A vector electromagnetic problem of diffraction by a wedge-shaped region is reduced to a system of coupled functional equations by using Sommerfeld integrals. This system of functional equations is solved by the perturbation method, and the convergence of the related series is analyzed. The system of functional equations is further reduced to linear equations with contracting operators, and the solution is represented in the form of a Neumann series. The Cartan equivalence method is used to find out if a given equation has a nontrivial Lie group of point symmetries. In particular, we compute invariants that permit one to recognize equations with a three-dimensional symmetry group. An effective method to transform the Lie system (the system of partial differential equations to be satisfied by the infinitesimal point symmetries) into a formally integrable form is given. For equations with a three-dimensional symmetry group, the formally integrable form of the Lie system is found explicitly. We introduce a new system of equations called a model system of Dirac-Maxwell equations, reproducing the main properties of the standard system. At the same time, the model system of equations differs from the standard system in several ways; in particular, it is a tensor system and has a new symmetry with respect to the pseudounitary group. We also propose a version of the model system of Dirac-Maxwell equations with local (gauge) pseudounitary symmetry.
