This paper concentrates on the analysis of the thermal nonequilibrium effects during forced convection in a parallel-plate channel filled with a fluid saturated porous medium. The flow in a channel is described by the Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation and the thermal nonequilibrium effects are accounted for by utilizing the two energy equations model. Applying the perturbation technique, an analytical solution of the problem is obtained. It is established that the temperature difference between the fluid and solid phases for the steady fully developed flow is proportional to the ratio of the flow velocity to the mean velocity. This results in a local thermal equilibrium at the walls of the channel if the Brinkman term which allows for the no-slip boundary condition at the walls is included into the momentum equation.

The problem investigated relates the plane unsteady flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a narrow channel one of whose walls is free and acted upon by a given load, while the other is rigidly fixed. The fluid enters the channel through a porous insert in the stationary wall. A model of the flow of a thin film of viscous incompressible fluid and Darcy's law for flow in a porous medium are used to find the distribution of fluid pressure and velocity in the channel and the porous insert in the two-dimensional formulation for fairly general boundary conditions in the case where the length of the porous insert exceeds the length of the free wall. In the particular case where the length of the porous insert is equal to the length of the free wall an exact stationary solution of the problem is obtained for a given value of the channel height. The stability of the equilibrium position of the free wall supported on a hydrodynamic fluid film is examined.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 1, pp. 16–24, January–February, 1986.

In the present work, analytical solutions are developed to simulate the transient hydrodynamics for a non-Darcian fluid flow in circular channels partially filled with a porous material. The current investigation considers two different cases: in the first case, a porous substrate shell is inserted adjacent to the channel wall, while in the second case, a cylindrical element of porous material is inserted at the channel center. Convective flow and heat transfer in an inclined channel bounded by two rigid plates held at constant different temperatures with one region filled with porous matrix saturated with a viscous fluid and another region with a clear viscous fluid different from the fluid in first region is studied analytically. The coupled nonlinear governing equations are solved using regular perturbation method. It is found that the presence of porous matrix in one of the region reduces the velocity and temperature. Results have been presented for a wide range of governing parameters such as Grashof number, porous parameter, angle of inclination, ratio of heights of the two layers and also the ratio of viscosities.

Exact solutions are obtained for the following three problems in which the Brinkman filtration equations are used: laminar fluid flow between parallel plane walls, one of which is rigid while the other is a plane layer of saturated porous medium, motion of a plane porous layer between parallel layers of viscous fluid, and laminar fluid flow in a cylindrical channel bounded by an annular porous layer.

Using Green's function method, analytical solutions are obtained for the problem of transient fluid flow in parallel-plate channels partially filled with porous materials. The unsteadiness in the fluid flow is caused either by a sudden change in the imposed pressure gradient or (and) by a sudden change in the velocity of the channel boundaries. The Brinkman-extended Darcy model is used to model the flow inside the porous domain. Received on 9 April 1997  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of fully developed forced convection in a parallel-plate channel partly filled with a homogeneous porous material is considered. The porous material is attached to the walls of the channel, while the center of the channel is occupied by clear fluid. The flow in the porous material is described by a nonlinear Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation. Utilizing the boundary-layer approach, analytical solutions for the flow velocity, the temperature distribution, as well as for the Nusselt number are obtained. Dependence of the Nusselt number on several parameters of the problem is extensively investigated.

An analytical three-dimensional solution to the fluid flow problem through heterogeneous porous media in a rotating square channel is presented. The permeability of the fluid saturated porous domain varies in the vertical direction, thus affecting the imposed main flow in the channel. As a result of Coriolis acceleration, secondary circulation in a plane perpendicular to the main flow direction is created. A particular example of a monotonic distribution of the permeability function is analyzed leading to a single vortex secondary circulation. Nevertheless, multiple vortex secondary flow solutions are possible depending on the particular variation of the permeability in the vertical direction. No secondary motion is expected for isothermal flows in homogeneous porous media.

This paper is concerned with the flow of two immiscible fluids through a porous horizontal channel. The fluid in the upper region is the micropolar fluid/the Eringen fluid, and the fluid in the lower region is the Newtonian viscous fluid. The flow is driven by a constant pressure gradient. The presence of micropolar fluids introduces additional rotational parameters. Also, the porous material considered in both regions has two different permeabilities. A direct method is used to obtain the analytical solution of the concerned problem. In the present problem, the effects of the couple stress, the micropolarity parameter, the viscosity ratio, and the permeability on the velocity profile and the microrotational velocity are discussed. It is found that all the physical parameters play an important role in controlling the translational velocity profile and the microrotational velocity. In addition, numerical values of the different flow parameters are computed. The effects of the different flow parameters on the flow rate and the wall shear stress are also discussed graphically.

In this research the steady three-dimensional flow of a Walter’s B fluid in a vertical channel with porous wall, through which the fluid is injected uniformly into the channel through one side of the channel, is studied analytically using Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM). The channel is assumed to be infinite and uniform. The effects of the elasticity of the fluid on the flow and heat transfer on the walls of the channel are discussed.

The problem of a two-dimensional steady flow of a second-grade fluid in a converging porous channel is considered. It is assumed that the fluid is injected into the channel through one wall and sucked from the channel through the other wall at the same velocity, which is inversely proportional to the distance along the wall from the channel origin. The equations governing the flow are reduced to ordinary differential equations. The boundary-value problem described by the latter equations is solved by the homotopy perturbation method. The effects of the Reynolds and crossflow Reynolds number on the flow characteristics are examined.

The effects of two parallel porous walls are investigated, consisting of the Darcy number and the porosity of a porous medium, on the behavior of turbulent shear flows as well as skin-friction drag. The turbulent channel flow with a porous surface is directly simulated by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The Darcy-Brinkman- Forcheimer (DBF) acting force term is added in the lattice Boltzmann equation to simu- late the turbulent flow bounded by porous walls. It is found that there are two opposite trends (enhancement or reduction) for the porous medium to modify the intensities of the velocity fluctuations and the Reynolds stresses in the near wall region. The parametric study shows that flow modification depends on the Darcy number and the porosity of the porous medium. The results show that, with respect to the conventional impermeable wall, the degree of turbulence modification does not depend on any simple set of param- eters obviously. Moreover, the drag in porous wall-bounded turbulent flow decreases if the Darcy number is smaller than the order of O(10-4) and the porosity of porous walls is up to 0.4.

We have studied the fully-developed free-convective flow of an electrically conducting fluid in a vertical channel occupied by porous medium under the influence of transverse magnetic field. The internal prefecture of the channel is divided into two regions; one region filled with micropolar fluid and the other region with a Newtonian fluid or both the regions filled by Newtonian fluids. Analytical solutions of the governing equations of fluid flow are found to be in excellent agreement with analytical prediction. Analytical results for the details of the velocity, micro-rotation velocity and temperature fields are shown through graphs for various values of physical parameters. It is noticed that Newtonian fluids prop up the linear velocity of the fluid in contrast to micropolar fluid. Also the skin friction coefficient at both the walls is derived and its numerical values are offered through tables.

Combined free and forced convection flow in a parallel plate vertical channel filled with porous matrix is analyzed in the fully developed region with boundary conditions of third kind. The flow is modeled using the Brinkman?CForchheimer-extended Darcy equations. The plates exchange heat with an external fluid. Both conditions of equal and different reference temperatures of the external fluid are considered. Governing equations are solved numerically by shooting technique that uses classical explicit Runge?CKutta scheme and Newton?CRaphson method as a correction scheme and analytically using perturbation series method for Darcy model. The velocity field, the temperature field and Nusselt numbers are obtained for governing parameters such as porous parameter, inertia term and perturbation parameter for equal and unequal Biot numbers and are displayed graphically. The dimensionless mean velocity and bulk temperature are also determined. It is found that the numerical solutions agree for small values of the perturbation parameter in the absence of the inertial forces.

This study investigates numerically the turbulent flow and heat transfer characteristics of a T-junction mixing, where a porous media flow is vertically discharged in a 3D fully developed channel flow. The fluid equations for the porous medium are solved in a pore structure level using an Speziale, Sarkar and Gatski turbulence model and validated with open literature data. Overall, two types of porous structures, consisted of square pores, are investigated over a wide range of Reynolds numbers: an in-line and a staggered pore structure arrangement. The flow patterns, including the reattachment length in the channel, the velocity field inside the porous medium as well as the fluctuation velocity at the interface, are found to be strongly affected by the velocity ratio between the transversely interacting flow streams. In addition, the heat transfer examination of the flow domain reveals that the temperature distribution in the porous structure is more uniform for the staggered array. The local heat transfer distributions inside the porous structure are also studied, and the general heat transfer rates are correlated in terms of area-averaged Nusselt number accounting for the effects of Reynolds number, velocity ratio as well as the geometrical arrangement of the porous structures.

This paper presents an analytical study of laminar fully developed free-convection flow between two vertical walls partially filled with porous matrix and partially with a clear fluid having interface vertically. The momentum transfer in porous medium is described by the Brinkman-extended Darcy model and the two regions are coupled by equating the velocity and shear stress at the interface. The governing equations having non-linear nature have been solved by using perturbation method. It has been found that effect of Brinkman term is in entire porous domain for large values of Darcy number while its effect is confined nearer to interface and wall for small values of Darcy number. Here an attempt has been made to investigate the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a non-Newtonian fluid filling the porous space in a channel with compliant walls. Constitutive equations of a Jeffery fluid are used in the mathematical modeling. The flow is created due to sinusoidal traveling waves on the channel walls. The resulting problem is solved analytically and series solution for a stream function is derived. The effects of pertinent flow parameters are discussed through graphs.

The lattice Boltzmann method is carried out to investigate the heat transfer enhancement in a U-turn duct which is partially filled with a porous media. The porous layer is inserted at the core of the duct and is modeled using the Brinkman–Forchheimer assumptions. In order to validate the results, first a channel flow problem without any porous layer is compared with available data. Second, the porous Couette flow and partially porous channel flow are successfully compared with the studies of other researchers. Then, fluid flow in a clear U-turn duct is studied looking carefully at the velocity, curvature and rotation effects. Finally, the effects of porous layer thickness on the rate of heat transfer and pressure drop are investigated. Parametric studies are conducted to evaluate the effects of various parameters (i.e., Reynolds number, Darcy number, rotation number), highlighting their influences on the thermo-hydrodynamics behavior of the flow. The optimum values of porous layer thickness are presented for specific flow parameters.
